Crawling my way out of my hole over to tumblr.com this fine 2 am to share my little Procreate experiment for the night.

School has been really demanding this semester (hence why I've posted barely anything at all this year), so I treated myself to a little doodle session, drawing my boy. I had a lot of fun playing with textures, brushes, and opacity, and also sketching in white on a black background was new and exciting for me. I know it's a mess, but I'm kind of obsessed, and had a good time making art (which I thought I had forgotten how to do).

Art school is so completely draining and deflating some times

#don't mind me #I know I haven’t posted in ages #I just need to share how absolutely demotivating having a bad critique day is #it's so frustrating to have spent an entire school year trying to figure out how to win in this class #and I never did #I couldn’t find the groove of what the profs were looking for #and ended up just making a bunch of art that I don’t particularly like or care about #I thought this project was going to go over well... #I was sorely mistaken #the feedback honestly wasn't super horrible #but I feel like people didn't understand the meaning and I wasn’t really given the space to advocate for myself like we usually do #idk anymore #I'm just tired and frustrated #just art student things

Currently going through all the images I've taken in the past couple years, looking for images to print on transparency to make cyanotypes of. I found this pic I took of the Matterhorn back in June, which I think has some nice contrast that would translate well to cyanotype. Thought I'd share this edit I did, putting it b+w to get ready for printing! Fingers crossed the printing and cyanotype process go well.

Ootd - January 31, 2024

After my critique yesterday of my custom clothes, one of my profs expressed the desire for me to wear my clothes every day, as a part of the artwork and to make it more of a staple for me, so of course I had to roll up today wearing this custom flannel! I also wanted to make it a bit of a louder outfit, so that said prof would be more likely to take notice that I was wearing it. I really loved how this outfit turned out!

I am genuinely so obsessed with the red fishnets over black tights! They have such a chokehold on me right now... I saw someone on tiktok wearing this combo, and was immediately like "Yes! Consider me influenced!". I will definitely be wearing the red fishnets, black tights (and leg warmers) combo again more!

Also featuring a new little snake ear cuff that I got in Seattle a couple weeks ago, which, surprisingly, was from Claire's. Since when do they make cool snake jewelry? I've been missing out, I suppose.

Another close up, this time of the flannel shirt I customized! This was my second attempt at bleach painting (after the black tee) and I'm also super thrilled with how this turned out! I was really curious how the bleach would react to this fabric and how it would look on top of a pattern. I had seen a lot of people on Pinterest do bleach on flannel, but I didn’t expect it to work that well in reality. I did make the sword a bit thicker than I meant to, so it looks a bit more dagger-like now which was unintentional. I think my favourite detail for this shirt is the leaf design on the collar, which wraps to the front as well (which I also stole from a Pinterest post lol).

A closer look at the celestial shirt I bleach painted! This was my first time trying this technique, and I was expecting this piece to look very experimental, but it ended up being quite easy and looked exactly like my original sketch! I was really impressed with how much detail I was able to get, plus it was seriously a lot of fun. I can't wait to do more of these in the future!

Hey Tumblr! It's been a hot minute, but I wanted to hop on today and share a project I just finished for my digital media class!

Keep reading to see my process of making this dagger!

Our assignment was super open ended, with the prompt just being "Make a project that involves Blender in some way", so I thought doing something mixed media would be a lot of fun. I'm on a mission this semester to start making art for classes that I WANT TO MAKE, and not just tailor to what I think will get me a good grade and what my profs would like. Honestly, could make a whole post about that mission as it is actually more challenging than I had anticipated, but I digress.

For my dagger, I started by making a quick sketch in Procreate to get an idea of what I wanted my model to look like. I got some inspo off of Pinterest, but tired to make the design my own, and something I could feasibly make.

Since I was making this project for a digital media class, and the assignment was supposed to revolve around using Blender, I made a base 3D model for the dagger, which I would then send off to get printed.

I originally tried to model the vines and leaves in Blender, but I had a really hard time with it, since I am still re-learning how to use Blender (haven't used it since high school). So I decided to make it a mixed media project, since the prof said this assignment was very open ended. Plus, doing mixed media would give me a chance to try out foam clay, which I've been wanting to experiment with for a while.

I then sent my 3D model off to my good friend David, who 3D printed it for me. He was even kind enough to send me a time lapse of it printing!

After printing, David also assembled the base for me, but I put glue in all the seams, followed by filler once that dried, and sanded the whole thing down. It definitely could have used more sanding since you can still see print lines in some places, but I was on a strict time crunch to get this assignment in on time.

Then I went in with my foam clay and started adding the leaves and vines on the handle, as well as the leaf details on the cross-guard. I had never used foam clay before (I know... what kind of cosplayer am I?), but I really enjoyed working with it. I had a bit of a hard time getting it to stick to the plastic, but I found that wetting it and then letting it get a bit tacky really helped with that.

The foam clay I bought was from Michaels, and was technically labeled "Modelling Foam", so I have no idea how it compares to the nice foam clay that most cosplayers use. I would have ordered that, but I decided to do the modelling by hand rather last minute, so I needed to buy what was available in store. Overall I enjoyed working with it, but I would still be interested to try the real stuff some time (assuming it's actually different from this).

After letting the foam clay dry overnight, I started painting it. I primed everything with a silver spray primer, then went over just the blade, pommel, and cross-guard with a more metallic silver spray paint. Thankfully, I had enough paint and primer left over from the two angel blades I made in the summer, so I didn't need to buy more paint for this project. I then painted the handle by hand, which was one of the most tedious paint processes I've ever done, but I'm quite happy with the results.

Last up was some clear coat, as I didn't want to risk any of the paint chipping off. I'm also hoping the clear coat will help seal the foam a bit, as I have no idea how foam clay holds up when used on props. I let the sealant dry overnight last night and this morning it was done! And today I took some pictures of it outside to submit to my prof for grading, and to use during our class critique tonight. Considering I was rushing these last steps after 3D printing, it is a miracle I got it done by the deadline. I'm quite happy with how it turned out!!!

Now I'm just hoping that crit goes well tonight! We'll see if my prof thinks this is too much mixed media for a digital media class...

Anyways, hope you enjoyed seeing my process! I know I haven't posted in ages... I have done and made so many cool things this past month, but I've been too stressed and busy to make posts about them. Hopefully I'll have more time to share stuff with you guys soon!

The beginnings of my Cecil cosplay! I'll be seeing the WTNV live show later this month, so I absolutely needed a cosplay to wear. I'm genuinely so excited!!!

Everything here I already had in my closet, except for the glasses which I thrifted today. Now I'm going to grab a sweater vest and make some tattoo sleeves, and I'll basically be done, except for any additional accessorizing I decide to do. So hyped for this cosplay, and for the show!

Ootd - January 1, 2024

The New Year's Day outfit to get dim sum with my parents and grandparents. Featuring a new snowflake necklace (which I am completely obsessed with) and a tartan scarf, both given to me for Christmas by my Grandpa. The tartan is a "Pride of Wales" design, which I think is so cute.
