can't believe Talya took these photos of me over a year ago... so much has changed in that time
random lessons learned: my face loves grapeseed oil, McDonald's french fries are still comforting, limited news consumption is for the best, being a nice person doesn't mean you're a good person

Europe & Morocco
I ran to the drugstore for some last minute items, on my list - a disposable camera. I was leaving the next day for a month.
SWITZERLAND
My time in CH meant visiting a gorgeous 16th century fortress, in the fairytale looking town of Schaffhausen.  The castle overlooks the rolling green hills and peaceful landscape that make up this land of make believe, which is about 40 minutes outside of Zürich. The moment you enter Schaffhausen, Munot is right on top of a hill, looking down at you. Below is a snap through a crenel opening from an almost dizzying, never ending winding staircase in the castle. Kind of morbid really, dododooo...
I also visited Zürich, as well as Geneva, which was great, I could compare the differences between the German side of Switzerland and The French side. I must say the German side is dryyyyy. Haha! Geneva reminds me of Paris, my favorite city in the world, so maybe I’m biased. I visited the UN, well that sounds a bit indulged, more like stood outside and took pictures, sorry my Zürich and Geneva photos didn’t develop properly, f’ing disposable.

SPAIN
A quick stop in Mallorca for some sun and Roman ruins seemed appropriate after plenty of gloomy days in CH. In Old Town Alcudia there are plenty of undisturbed ruins, within the typical European labyrinth of tiny streets, juxtaposed with these cool buildings from the 50s/60s, like the below. Plenty of different architectural dynamics existing here. The sun was setting and we were looking for a fun spot to stuff our faces with paella, we didn’t eat here though...

MOROCCO
First of all the airline lost my luggage. So I was pissed about not having my panties and toothbrush, it took them three days to get me my luggage back. But, it was a reality check, spending a few days in Marrakech without my “things” was nothing to complain about when you are exposed to so much poverty. Little kids beg you for food with such exuberance, teenagers offer sex in exchange for money without shame, and the elderly sit on the streets silent, with sad, dirty faces just waiting for someone to give them anything. The marketplace is a scene of beautiful chaos. Marrakech is intensely captivating on so many levels, I can’t really explain it, you must go, you must.

FRANCE
At the end of my trip I spent 10 days in Paris!!! It’s just so magical, and will always have a special place in my heart. I wasted no time hitting up all my favorite spots, flea markets, vintage stores, ate lots of yummy food, created new memories... I almost cried on the metro when an old man with a vintage accordion played beautiful romantic French music, as a couple gave each other sweet kisses and whispered into each other’s ears. I laughed uncontrollably when my friends and I made a dramatic, on purpose cheesy slow-mo video of us holding hands running in the grass in front of The Eiffel Tower.

Cuba
Over the holidays my cousins and I decided to book a last minute trip to Cuba, a long weekend in Havana, why not? So we went, and it was absolutely incredible. The air smells like fresh bread, at every turn there is live music with impromptu dancing in the streets, and you’re in constant adoration of the vintage cars you see from the moment you land. You feel like you’ve stepped back in time, where technology is outdated, kids actually play outside, and wifi is hard to come by, so you have no choice but to be in the moment....
Snapped some pics on a disposable, take a look.

A few weeks ago at a friend's birthday party, I made small talk with a young woman who inquired, obligatory during these types of seemingly awkward cordial "just met you" convo's, "Are you from LA?" I responded, "No, I'm from New York, from Brooklyn." Without the slightest hesitation, she eagerly remarked, "Me too! I'm from Brooklyn." "Where? What neighborhood?" - I asked. After some stuttering, she managed to explain further, "Well I've lived in Brooklyn for about seven years, so it's like my home." "Hmmm, so where are you from?" "I'm from [insert small All-American town, I stopped listening, sorry]." "I see. Yup, well, Brooklyn, born and raised," I stated, obviously referring to myself. I found this so funny. Although I've been living in LA for some time now I could never abandon my NYC roots - I wouldn't in a million years start telling people I was from LA. Why wouldn't this girl just want to rep her city or town for that matter? Has Brooklyn really captivated people in such a way they are willing to forgo their truths (I'm being kinda dramatic ooo well), for the sake of being cool, because Brooklyn is soooo fucking cool now?! During my trip home last week, I played it over and over in my head, and I was a bit insulted. Sure you want to be cool that's great, but let's get a few things clear - you were not taking these trains and buses to and from school in the freezing cold, stifling humidity, and pouring rain starting at age 11. You did not have to allow extra time in the AM during four years of high school to have your bag go through a scanner, where you also walked through a metal detector, and were patted down every single day before first period. And, you most certainly don't know shit about getting a hero from the corner store for lunch for your class trip, opening a hydrant and getting wet on the block with your friends in the summer, and lastly, you are not "from" Brooklyn (or NYC at that!) if you don't know what a wash and set is. Anyways, block is hot as you can see, gtg! Haha

TV - when it’s good, it’s sooo good
Tumblr media
Today is the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards. So can we talk about TV?
I really enjoy watching good TV. You know, those shows that give you butterflies in your tummy as you anxiously await the next episode for a whole week, or these days, when applicable, you binge watch on a streaming service, neglecting any and all responsibilities for hours at a time for the sake of “just one more episode.”
Following a character’s journey over a period of time - witnessing their ups and downs, trials and triumphs, observing how they change and evolve, and learning from them as they navigate their world - as you experience all the same, albeit different circumstances, in tandem with these characters is truly special. We can relate to a character’s humanity when it’s done right. I like to think I have a unique relationship with each of my favorite shows, the characters teach me things about myself and about life, I laugh at them, cry with them, get upset at their foes, and celebrate their victories. I love being a part of their journeys.
Can I share some of my favorite shows with you? I love writing television, and I believe it’s my love of this journey between audience and character that fuels my passion for writing for the small screen. The following lists are in no particular order, and are, what I believe, great shows because of phenomenal writing, acting, directing, perfect casting, and a litany of other elements that add to their dopeness.
DRAMA
The X-Files ( watched this religiously growing up, recently re-watched all of it, timeless, incredible TV that remained dedicated to the show’s premise without any gimmicks, Mulder never even kissed anyone until season 3!)
Mad Men
Dexter
Breaking Bad
Black Mirror
Unorthodox
The Handmaid’s Tale
DRAMEDY
Master of None
Call My Agent!
COMEDY
The Golden Girls (major fashion inspo among other things)
Schitt’s Creek
Frasier
Curb Your Enthusiasm  (Larry can do no wrong, I want to be his friend...)
The Honeymooners
Girlfriends (never got the ending it deserved, wish Toni never left)

non-creative “creatives”
Tumblr media
snapped by Verna Abante
This may hurt some people’s feelings. Reader discretion is advised.
How do you define creativity? Or better yet, I’m more interested in how you define  “a creative”?
It seems there’s been a very casual use of the term “creative” as of late. It’s become quite trendy actually. To deem oneself as that of a creative type based on frivolous, vapid false notions of creativity (like exploiting your day on Snapchat, or posting incessant photos on Instagram) doesn’t really make you a creative, sorry to break the news.
(Tangent: if you enjoy doing the noted, good for you, but please have some other things going for yourself on the creative front and not rely on that for your “art,” we have Kim K for that I guess, and not gonna lie she does a damn good job at it.)
I think if you really want to consider yourself a creative think outside the box, outside of your comfort zone — move into spaces that challenge you and grow your artistry. Disconnect sometimes from social media and cultivate work that truly opens conversation and shifts our social dynamics from a screen to genuine human interactions. A creative isn’t relying on any platform, just reliant on the art, on creating.
I sound like such a know it all, how egotistical of me. No, really I know nothing, but I do know one thing — you look pretty stupid if all you have to say for yourself are your handles...
