Wangxian are great and all but i find that i find them so much more entertaining when i'm writing them from an outsider pov like. These characters have their own personal drama and bullshit going on and Suddenly There's Those Two having the romance of the century just. A little over there. And the other characters just have to be like "alright well they're insane. Moving on." It's SO funny. Like they can't just be a little normal lovey dovey side ship to me they have to be weirdly intense about it. Even in the most normal fluffiest coffee shop au they should have deeply genre-incongruent drama and be uncomfortably ready and willing to die for each other.

Do you understand lan wangji's internalized struggle with ocd-like impulses to tamp down his sexual desire because even if it's just part of an intrusive thought he believes his kinks make him a monster like his father and that he has to obsessively maintain a set of rules and punishments for his own thoughts or else he'll be a horrible person and that these don't even truly begin to be remedied until the extras where wwx sees his deepest desires in full color and rather than scorning him and telling him he's a horrible person who should control his thoughts better he's wholeheartedly accepting and enthusiastic to negotiate what boundaries he's ok with therefore breaking that cycle and saving lwj in turn after lwj saved him and this is a great moral ocd allegory and if you claim to understand lwj but then turn around and puritanically condemn people for thought crimes then you're doing it wrong and should sit in the timeout corner

Lan Wangji really just saved Wei Ying's life, screamed at Wei Ying, shoved him like thrice, told him not to flirt with people if he doesn't mean it, bit him like a dog, cried, told him to shut the hell up and that he is a fucking menace, took his underrobe, then apologized to him twice sincerely, then told him not to over think anything, then saved his life, then made him rest and grill him upon his sleeping schedule, then antagonize him, then stroke his hair while he's sleeping and let him roll about in his lap, then be angry at being called boring and then sing a song he'd written for Wei Ying to profess his immense love for him.
