Casa BatllĂł (AKA Casa dels OssosâHouse of Bones), Barcelona
Casa BatllĂł (Catalan pronunciation: [ËkazÉ Î˛ÉËĘËo]) is a building in the center of Barcelona. It was designed by Antoni GaudĂ, and is considered one of his masterpieces. A remodel of a previously built house, it was redesigned in 1904 by GaudĂ and has been refurbished several times after that.
The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), as it has a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It is located on the Passeig de GrĂ cia in the Eixample district, and forms part of a row of houses known as the Illa de la Discòrdia (or Mansana de la Discòrdia, the âBlock of Discordâ), which consists of four buildings by noted Modernista architects of Barcelona.
Like everything GaudĂ designed, Casa BatllĂł is only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. The ground floor, in particular, has unusual tracery, irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work. There are few straight lines, and much of the façade is decorated with a colorful mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles (trencadĂs). The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon or dinosaur. A common theory about the building is that the rounded feature to the left of centre, terminating at the top in a turret and cross, represents the lance of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia, GaudĂâs home), which has been plunged into the back of the dragon.

Crazy how the other day a black man was shot 7 times for walking to his car and yet yesterday a white teen shot three peopleâ killing two of themâ and was allowed to walk past police, and go home to his own state before being arrested without being shot

Cooking Tip: The Mother Ship
The French refined the art of saucemaking  in the 19th century.  Chef Antonin Careme evolved the process by identifying four âmother saucesâ:
* Espagnole: brown-stock based (bercy sauce, madeira sauce)
* Veloute: white-stock based (ex: seafood sauce, mushroom sauce)
* Bechamel: milk-based (ex: cheese sauce, mornay sauce)
* Tomate: (not a typo!) tomato and meat-based (creole sauce, Provençal sauce)
A fifth âmother sauceâ was added later on: emulsified sauces, which are made from combining liquids and a thickening agent (ex: hollandaise sauce, bernaise sauce)
Thousands of variations come from these five base sauces just by adding different ingredients of altering cooking times.Â
