Imagine flirting with Shuri when she comes to get Riri
Tumblr media
You were on your way to back to your shared dorm room to grab your textbook for your english class. In the next twenty minutes you picked up the pace a bit remembering Riri agreed to lend you her notes for the same math class. The two of you shared but only if you could catch her in time. She couldn't afford to let to be late for that class again considering how much of a hard-ass the professor was. He was the lock the door five minutes after his class starts type, and the only way in after that was to endure the embarrassment of being. Forced to try and solve some equation that he had yet to cover. Although Riri could probably solve it in her sleep being one of more advanced students in his class. She preferred to avoid the attention.
Your headphones were blaring music into your ears as you reached the door to your dorm. When you twisted the doorknob it stalled indicating it was locked. That caught you by surprise considering neither of ever bothered to lock the door. You were single and as far as you knew so was Riri, and if that had changed. You definitely would've known that girl told you everything. You pulled your ear buds from your ear. Just as you raised your hand ready to bang on the door. You heard your roommate's voice from the other side.
"Get out of my dorm" she demanded. "Get out"
Your blood ran cold trying to figure out who could possibly have her in distress. You knew some of the kids had a bad habit of trying to stiff her on money. After she did the work for them, and she had no problem confronting them about her money. But none of them ever tried to retaliate. Maybe that had finally changed wasting no time you took a firm hold on the doorknob, and slammed your shoulder into the door. As hard as you could manage the door gave away sending you tumbling inside.
You caught yourself before hitting the floor and stood up straight ready to threaten whoever was in the room. Until you came face to face with none other than the Princess of Wakanda.
"Ha I have a witness you can't make me go with you now. Now get out like I said" Riri demanded still standing in the corner by the windows.
There was another woman standing beside the Princess she was tall and fit dressed in a black suit jacket and red spandex. You recognized her as well considering how big of a fan you were of the Princess, and knew wherever she went. This woman seemed to follow both of them had turned at your entrance.
'Y/N tell them to leave" Riri said snapping you out of your trance.
Your eyes flickered back and forth between her and them trying to assess the situation. But in the end it didn't matter you weren't about to kick the Princess of Wakanda out no matter what. "Come on Riri is that anyway to talk to a Princess" You told her instead. Earning a groan from your roommate who threw her hands in the air. Shuri was a bit taken back but gave you a small smile. Okoye just raised an eyebrow at your statement.
Your eyes landed on the portable speaker Riri was holding onto with a death grip. "Please tell me you're not trying to use that as a weapon?" You asked moving in front of Shuri.
"Y/N now is not the time for your smitten behind to be all smooth" Riri said through gritted teeth. "Get over here" she pointed a finger at you.
You turned around with a smile aimed at the women. "I'm sorry for her she can be pretty hostile sometimes."
"Yeah we can see that is there anyway you can convince her not to be?" Shuri asked.
"For you of course" You replied with a wink turning back around to Riri. She had the speaker raised over her head this time. "Riri just put it down and hear them out."
"Girl I already heard them out they want to kidnap me and take me back to Wakanda against my will" she revealed.
You gave her a blank stare for a solid five seconds before glancing at Shuri and Okoye over your shoulder. The room was silent as they all waited to see what you were going to say or do next. Shuri was hoping you would still side with them. It might make this whole process a lot easier. Finally you spoke up again
"If the Princess of Wakanda wants to take you back to her country. You go without question Riri like seriously why is this even a discussion."
"Damn it y/n this isn't one of your romance books or movies."
"Really because this seems like the start of a beautiful love story to me" You shot back throwing Shuri a quick wink.
"Oh for Bast's sake" Okoye muttered under her breath.
Shuri grinned at you making your heart flutter. "Hey if I take your friend back to Wakanda with us will you come?"
Riri reached out to grab you by the arm and yank you beside her before you could say anything. "Don't even think about it?"
"I'll go wherever you want me to go" You said anyway.
"Y/N shut your hopeless ass up" Riri exclaimed angrily.
"Hopelessly in love" You quickly added.
Riri let out a growl of frustration going to throw the speaker, but you took a hold of her arms. "Would you just wait? Can someone tell me what is really going on here besides the beginning of a love story?"
Shuri let out a chuckle.
It was Okoye who answered. "Your friend here got herself put on the wanted list of a merman with her vibranium detector. Now she is in danger and we're trying to protect her."
Your eyes widened in realization as you turned to her with a 'I told you so look. "I told you not to build that thing Riri but you didn't listen."
"Okay fine you were right but don't forget the part where you were hoping. It would win us a trip to Wakanda so you could meet the Princess."
"Well I mean it did kind of workout I guess but if you're in danger don't you think its best you go with them. I mean a merman doesn't sound dangerous, but if it brought the Princess and the General out here to MIT. This has to be serious" You told her with a empathetic look.
Riri let out a sigh relaxing her grip on the speaker. "Will you cover for me?"
You nodded "of course I will."
"Does that mean you don't want to come back to Wakanda with us?" Shuri asked with a smirk.
"Is that an invitation Princess?" You replied.
"I mean your friend could use the moral support" she said with a shrug.
"Yeah right moral support but you know I'm going for the bonus of winning you over right."
"Hmmm we'll see" she mused flinching when Okoye smacked her arm.
Riri gave you a look as well.
"Are the two of done?" Okoye asked with a eye roll.
"For now" You promised with another wink.

Pairing: Shuri x F!reader, aunt!Okoye x niece!reader
Warning: local Angst
Word count: 1100
Summary: Shuri has been spending time in the lab while your insecurities have gotten the best of you, She doesn’t realize anything is wrong until she heard from Okoye what happened.
———————————————————————
Another day in Wakanda, the sun shining on your eyes causing you to wake. Yours eyes flickered around the room for a moment as you looked for Shuri, she wasn’t in bed. But then again she rarely was, she was always in her lab. A sigh escaped your lips as you slid out of bed and made your way to the bathroom, you ran a comfortable warm bath and got some comfortable clothes to change into. Once you were done you brushed your teeth and did you hair before starting your day completely. When you left the room that you and Shuri practically shared, Okoye greeted you “Morning Mrs Y/N” she smiled to which you waved to her and giggled “I told you stop with the formalities Auntie Okoye” you whined to which she smirked and returned to her work, you smiled and left. Making your way through the palace, you found yourself in the elevator going down to Shuri’s lab. ———————————————————————————————————When you walked in the lab you saw the scientist hard at work, hunched over as she grumbled about her work. You walked up to her and wrapped your arms around her waist “Hi your highness” you whispered to her, it shocked you when she waved you off dismissively and continued working “Not now I’m busy” she hissed, she said that days ago. She’s been saying that for weeks, it hurt your heart to have her continue to treat you like this. You were getting tired of being pushed away or ignored by the taller woman, your hand instinctively running through your hair as you felt stressed. Okoye told you to talk to her but everytime you did she’d reply with “I’m busy” which started to make you mad. You groaned as you had tears prick at your eyes
We’re you not enough? Did you do something wrong? We’re you too skinny? We’re you too fat? What was wrong with you? Why doesn’t she love you?
Okoye heard the sniffles coming from you and was quick to come to your aid, reassuring you that Shuri did love you. That didn’t go so well either “She loves you, Shuri thinks about you all the time” Okoye tried to comfort but your insecurities had already consumed most of your heart and mind. “No she doesn’t! I’m tired of competing for love with a lab! A LAB AUNTIE OKOYE!” You cried out as your chest heaved, tears now streaming down your cheeks. Okoye didn’t awnser, she only rubbed your back as you cried. Violent sobs racking through your body, a hint of sympathy in her eyes. “why doesn’t she want me man?!” You cried out as Okoye sighed “I don’t know y/n” she mumbled. “You need to get some rest” Okoye said as you nodded “now shoo!” Okoye huffed as you scampered off. ———————————————————————————————————You found yourself walking past Shuri’s room, the one y’all practically shared. You made your way to your own room, silent sniffles leaving you as you shut the door behind you. You locked the large doors before ripping the duvet and covers from your bed and making a small hut on your balcony, your eyes gazed at the sun as it kissed the water. Tears pricked at your eyes once again, normally Shuri would be the one to sit and watch it with you. You felt alone and your heart hurt at the thought of losing her, your head was pounding and the tears kept coming. After hours of broken sobs leaving your body, you laid on the balcony. Sleep, your hands gripped the duvet as if hugging a person and you drifted off. ———————————————————————————————————When Shuri looked up from her project that she was so determined to finish she realized how late it was, she groaned and knew that you probably were back at the room. She slipped her lab coat off and ran her hand through her curly hair, Okoye walked in after a moment or two making Shuri raise a brow “Princess Shuri” Okoye said as her hands crossed over her chest then returned to their previous positions. “Yes Okoye?” Shuri asked, normally Okoye wasn’t one to come to the lab so it confused her “Shuri, You need to pay more attention to your love” Okoye sighed making Shuri’s brow quirk even more “what are you talking about? I pay her quite a lot of attention!” Her highness huffed, her tone had raised slightly making Okoye raise a brow “Your love was crying, not just crying I mean full on sobbing. All because you wouldn’t come out of this horrid lab! I love you dearly Shuri, but I will not allow my child to stay in a relationship with you if you treat her like this” Okoye hissed making the black panther back up “M’Sorry Okoye, I’ll talk to her now” Shuri reassured as she put away her lab gear, Okoye’s watched as Shuri tried to track your Kimoyo bracelet but it showed you were in her lab. She was quick to look around, her heart only aching more when she found your Kimoyo bracelet on one of her tables. “Griot!” Shuri growled “Yes princess?” The Ai responded “Where’s Y/n?!” Shuri was panicking “In her room your highness” Griot reassured and Shuri took off to find you. ———————————————————————————————————When Shuri searched through your room she panicked realizing you weren’t there, her eyes scanned the room before she looked on the balcony. Tears stained your face, your body was practically shaking because of how cold it was. Shuri was heartbroken and quickly brought you inside, you woke to the sudden movement and looked up at Shuri. “Bast, Y/n! You could’ve gotten sick!” She said in a distressed manner as you stirred awake completely “I’m fine” you grumbled in response as you slipped out of the duvet covers and stood up, Shuri towered over you. Which she would tease you about from time to time but now was not the time, you watched as she got down on her knees and took your hands into hers. “I’m so so sorry my love, I never meant to hurt your feelings I just got so caught up in my creations. I promise, I will never ever ever do it again” she said to you as you pulled her off her knees “You are royalty, get off your knees” you huffed but she only pulled you into a hug “I’m so so sorry”

Hateful Love
Okoye x Female Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Okoye have a different appraoch to love. One that tends to look like hate when being challenged. Few people see the layers under that. Only the two of you personally know how deep the love runs
Word count: 5.9k
Authors Note: Guess who's back? 🤭
Slightly Angsty, with fluff ending
Warnings: Minor Injury
Tumblr media
Subtle Love is an unknown realm full of possibilities. A kind of love that is never talked about. Repeatedly misunderstood and misinterpreted as a lack of love. Though it's often the strongest internal builder of most healthy relationships.
The average life consists of many forms of love. Puppy Love, Toxic Love, Struggle Love and so on. They all come with their own benefits and detriments. Usually sub- sections of the average love story.
They all build up to become society’s standard of what love should be.
Good Love.
The type of love that comes with romantic grand gestures and constant compatibility. The type of love that comes with no problems.
But Good Love isn’t real. No relationship comes without problems. And in that same breath, not all problems can be fixed with grand actions.
It’s the subtle things that matter. The soft kisses of reassurance.. The consistency in trust and honesty. The open nature of the communication with the person, or people in which one has chosen to love.
Subtle Love is filled with subtle things. Ones that only showed their purpose in the later stages, when families have been established, and the foundation to it all has been put down thoroughly enough to securely be able to deal with troubling situations as one unit.
It’s the type of love that Redeh didn’t grow up with.
Her parents, like most, strived to achieve the graceful look of Good Love. With great effort, they tried to make sure that everyone thought that they loved each other. More effort being put into the public persona than in the physical relationship itself.
It took a toll on them both after years of pretending, resulting in a nasty divorce that lacked reasoning but was filled with resentment.
By her tenth year of existence, Redeh routinely witnessed the two fighting about anything that their senseless heads could think of. It was a situation that no child should have had to be a part of. A type of love that a kid should never have been exposed to in the first place.
Before the concept of being alive ever came to be fully grasped, Redeh was a mediator. The devil’s advocate that came between her parents. Never getting an explanation as to how it all fell apart. Only seeing joy followed by immediate sorrow.
It was an unending, thankless job that haunted her childhood and often affected her in her newfound adulthood. It was the one thing that Redeh feared most. Losing the spark that lit under a relationship as soon as an inconvenient problem arose. Even when she wasn’t with a single person, she feared that one thing.
Good Love.
Many people were the same. Witnessing the early signs of Good Love in childhood, never learning how to communicate meaningfully. They learned that the synchronisation that came with being in love only stayed existent as long as problems remained non-existent. And when those problems refused to continue hiding themselves, the relationship turned permanently sour.
There were thick lines that labelled what healthy relationships consisted of. Ones that Redeh took most of her adolescence learning for her own sake. She tried to memorise all the ways that relationships could work. Every scenario where the lines would possibly be crossed and blurred and how to see other healthy relationships in a positive way.
She often struggled. The trauma that being raised by unloving parents always warping her ability to ever believe that Subtle Love could ever exist.
The only rolemodels that she had were the movies that she watched. The ones that showed the natural, and sometimes ethically questionable love stories where all the hardships came before the couples would even get together. It taught her that that was the only way to get Good Love. Having all the problems appear at the beginning of it all.
These movies became her solace. Her safe haven. Her expectation for how she would find her love in the coming years.
They were also her downfall. The sole reason for her struggle in grasping how love truly worked now that she was no longer in the presence of her parents on a daily basis.
They were an unrealistic expectation wrapped with a fake ribbon.
For Good Love did not equate to Concrete Love. Revealing itself to be only another sub-section in the perfect love story.
Subtle Love was what she craved, but because she had yet to discover that that was an option, she knew of only one love that came with conflict before the final storm.
Hateful Love.
Tumblr media
Redeh stood in her all but tall form. Staring at the mirror that captured her in her new uniform. Her Dora Milaje uniform. The uniform that was of the utmost importance to her as she wore it.
After a decade of not having a clue where life would take her, and another one where all she could think of for her future was the life she’d live as a Dora. She was finally going on her first non-group mission with only her and her successors.
The news having come only days before; she’d crossed her fingers and hoped that she’d be the one chosen. When her name was called, excitement washed over her and she became fully ready to observe the two best Doras in action. She was  even ready to offer help wherever she could, no matter how nerve wracking it became.
Though nervous, due to not having her fellow new Doras there to help cover her mistakes if needed, she knew that she was right where she needed to be. So she walked. Out of her home and straight to the official Wakandan Hangar by the palace, where unsurprisingly she was the second person there.
Second to General Okoye.
“Redeh.” the General spoke, offering her greetings as she looked down at her beads, analysing something on its screen.
“General Okoye.” she returned, failing to hide her excitement.
Okoye cracked a smile as she saw her, remembering the first time that she was hand picked from her group to join the more experienced Doras in combat.
She briefly told the girl what would be expected of her for the day. A threat in some unoccupied land between Wakanda and a neighbouring nation, being the main issue. The queen had offered to investigate in representation of both nations, with a small group of Wakanda's fighters.
“We’re not fully sure what we're getting ourselves into so make sure that you stay fully aware of your surroundings out there. We won't be able to make sure that you're safe the entire time.”
“Of course. General.” she quickly said, the realisation of how real the situation was having fully set in for her.
The General nodded, content with her answer. They continued briefly going through everything, up until Ayo showed up, just as serious as Okoye, and ready for what was coming.
Seeing her 2 biggest inspirations looking at her with full faith and trust put a drive in her that nothing else could. They knew that she had something in her. Surprising Redeh everytime they looked at her. No one else ever had that look. Not even her own self.
Looking around and walking towards a quinjet like she was ready to go, Okoye was stopped by Ayo, who looked utterly perturbed.
“General wait! Where’s Y/n?” she asked her.
Redeh stood between the two, having never been aware of you coming with them. Apparently the other two had left that out of her briefing.
Her heart raced now. You, being one of Wakanda’s best armourers, almost never physically went on missions with the Dora, only supplying them with their best weapons.
All occasions where you were physically there were well-known missions where you and the General, an extremely powerful couple, worked together to beat the worst of people. What you two had, it was the true definition of Good Love. something she aspired to achieve.
She watched the other two Adored Ones look at each other, Okoye struggling to make a definite statement about where you were, though she must have been with you earlier.
Then she started, "She's actually not- "
“-I'm here!" your voice came from a distance, as you happily made your way to them.
Redeh smiled as you crossed your arms in salute to her before happily looking at the others.
She looked at the General’s face, hoping to see the look of utter bliss that often consumed the faces of the people who were with the ones that they loved in real life. Or at least, in the movies...
To her dismay, there was none of that. Instead came a harsh, “You're late.” from Okoye. One of almost disbelief.
You quickly dismissed her.
“Oh what will the world do now? Y/n was five minutes late.” You said calmly, gaining an intense eye roll from Okoye.
The other three went on into the quinjet, leaving Redeh a bit thrown aback. That had never been in the movies. It was always a peaceful, almost surreal reunification. Not one filled with mixed emotions. And although she knew that her mission wasn’t to analyse this new rule to love, she was enthralled by it. It was so much like her parents, but also not at all like it too. It was a moment that she wanted context for, because there had to have been a before.
By the calling of her name, she realised that she had gotten distracted, and everyone else had gone into one of the jets, and were patiently waiting for her to do the same.
With the jet's engine's still off  for the meantime, the 4 sat on one side of its double seated benches, looking at the briefing that had been sent to all of them via Okoye.
The tense moment picking up where it left off, you spoke about what you’d brought with you to assist in the missions.
“I don't get how this decision was made. Taking you on a mission.” Okoye whispered, barely letting it out of her lips. It was your turn to roll your eyes, though it was more of a half-roll.
“You said it yourself. We don’t know what we might encounter. Queen Ramonda thought it would be better to bring me if it’s more than we think it is. Now can you just read the briefing?”
Mouth hanging open, Redeh tried to keep her eyes on her screen, too confused to even attempt mediation.
‘Something’s wrong.’ she thought, knowing how kind you both were to others. She reminded herself of all the good memories she had with you both. The two of you were far from toxic. But thinking of it, the two of you, although having a very public relationship, never talked about the true ins and outs of it.
It was easy to forget that you were together if she didn’t constantly remind herself of the fact. Or maybe you just weren’t.
Either way, there was tension. And it was especially evident when you made your next suggestion.
“I’ll be in one of my aircrafts, watching out from above. If I see anything I’ll go down to help.” you said. A completely reasonable suggestion.
"That sounds good." Redeh said, trying to show that she was actively participating. Still, she looked around for Ayo’s approval, just to make sure that she wasn’t completely off the mark.
Ayo gave her a slight nod, not fully dedicated to the idea. Redeh raised her brows, unsure as to how this was a bad idea. That was until she saw Okoye’s face.
"No." the General said bluntly.
You were the only one shocked by this. "No? What do you mean no?"
"You're not gonna be up there by yourself."
This was a fight. Redeh knew it, and despite her better judgement telling her not to, she couldn’t stop from at least asking.
"Are the two of you okay?" This did not defuse the situation at all, but Redeh could tell that she wasn’t fully aware of everything going on.
"It’s my machine! You should feel honoured that I'm willing to use it."
"I feel sick, actually."
The sound of a gasp was all that came from the otherwise silent space. Redeh covered her mouth when she realised that she was the owner of said gasp.
Ayo stood up, making her way to the front of the jet, where she prepared to start flying. In total embarrassment, the young adult that still had her hand over her mouth followed her, sitting in a co-pilot spot, even though she knew that she wasn’t going to be helping in the flight department , her skills in the sky being her only struggle in training.
She turned to look behind her large chair, catching a glimpse of the couple she’d left still sitting together.
Something was said, or at least she thought it was, because Okoye swatted your hand away when you tried to hold her hand. You looked beyond hurt at that.
The overwhelming resemblance of her parents made her turn away, directing her gaze to the pilot now. This couldn’t be the love that she constantly heard that the two had. Where were those grand gestures she knew of?
"Are they still together?" she asked, being sure that the two of you could very well have broken up. That would explain a lot.
"Yes." Ayo said bluntly, confusion laced in her eyebrows.
"Are they always like this or is there some big fight that I'm not aware of?" Redeh went on to ask.
"They're usually like this."
That answer was baffling to her.
"But they don't hate each other."
"Bast, no. They love each other.”
Redeh, crossed her arms, reluctant to believe those words. She was no expert but that kind of love was far from familiar to her. Not in a good context anyway. That was the ‘love’ of exes if she knew anything about it. It was Hateful Love.
Ayo noticed the young woman struggling to understand what was truly going on, and not wanting to scare her off, didn’t tell the full truth about the small change in demeanour that you and Okoye had only moments before.
“Look. Different people show their love publicly in different ways. They’re not like that when they’re alone. Trust me. The love that they like to keep more secret is less tense.”
Turning again, she saw you closer to Okoye, reading from her screen.
“Be quiet. Your breathing is distracting me.” the General said to you.
“Oh, okay, yeah, I’ll just stop breathing.”
“Thank you, that’ll be very helpful.”
For a split second they looked at Redeh and she quickly turned back for the last time.
"If you say so." she said to Ayo.
Tumblr media
In the 2 hours that passed coming through to the height of the mission, Redeh couldn't help but be doubtful of the validity of your relationship. Even though she knew that it was none of her concern.
From the beginning there was constant bickering between the two of you.
You were able to get your way in regards to your aircraft. Something that even hours later, Okoye was seemingly upset about.
While you were in the sky, Okoye constantly said things through her earpiece that made it clear where she stood on the issue.
When you realised that the issue that was taking place on the land was a rebellion group that was causing complete destruction, you activated the weaponry that you’d given the other 3 to help them defend themselves beyond their spears. Another thing that Okoye wasn’t too fond of.
Though they helped, you felt like there was no other choice than to go down there yourself. You had more experience with more helpful weapons and you thought you could help more on the ground now that you knew what you were working with.
“I'm coming down!” you said, already lowering the aircraft while you unbuckled and prepared to jump down when you were close enough.
“No!” Okoye yelled instantaneously.
“I have to!”
“Y/n! Now is not the time to be trying to prove something. Stay on the plane!” Okoye yelled, as she struggled to take down the clutter of rebels on the left. Redeh and Ayo stayed silent fighting for their lives on opposite sides.
Not even a minute later, your jet was nearly on the ground and you were practically flying out of it.
Surprisingly, you landed on your feet. The noise of it bringing the attention to you.
Half a dozen rebels ran towards you, ready to attack.
Just like before, you didn’t hesitate to get to work. You tried to go for them all at once ,your impressive weapon skills prompting more to want to approach you, their interest being in the ultra-powerful hydrogen blaster that worked effortlessly with the use of vibranium.
It all went downhill as 2 more dozen rebels approached you, and you were being surrounded.
"You've got to be kidding me." Okoye said, running headfirst into the madness with Ayo and Redeh close behind..
The battle was a blur for the latter. The only thing resonating with her being the glares that Okoye shot at you whenever she got a split second to.
At some point the rebels had stopped gathering around you, as they all laid on the ground, severely injured.
Your  job was soon done, with minimal casualties.
When Ayo went up to Redeh, and told her “well done.” She couldn't even remember what she had contributed to the event, only remembering a few significant fights with a handful of rebels.
Regardless of memory, she was glad that she's done well in Ayo’s eyes. Her first day was more than a success
Walking back to the quinjet, her mind still worked, feeling unfulfilled in her analysis of you and Okoye. She’d easily gone to protect you when you were surrounded, though you’d constantly done things that seemingly annoyed her the entire day. And when she was done, the tension rang just as strong as at the beginning of the day.
“I think it’s broken.” your voice rang in her head, causing her to turn her head to look at you and Okoye walking a few steps behind them.
“Of course it is.” Okoye responded.
She turned back again, looking at Ayo with a face that was still concerned.
All Ayo did was smile. Smile like she knew something that nobody else did.
And she did. She knew that the entire day's events were all symbols of love. Subtle Love.
Tumblr media
Subtle love is a form of love that is never talked about. The feelings that surround it often fully authentic. Not artificially created for the approval of others.
Just like a lot of hate, it often lives unconfronted. Whether known or not, it stays under the wraps, softly undisturbed.
It’s the kind of love that is open to all. Fully welcoming and accommodating. The kind that holds a safe space where full transparency and vulnerability can be openly expressed without the fear of judgement.
It’s the major things expressed in small ways. The “love” proclamations. The physical and emotional holding of one’s partner. The tears of confession. The late night conversations. All happening in a single moment that only those present get to and want to share.
It is the kind of love that outsiders often can never decipher, but it is one of the closest forms of Concrete Love.
It’s not the kind of love that Okoye or you grew up in. The paths leading up to your relationship having many different examples of love and the dynamics that came with it. There was good and bad with all of them, as they showed you what you wanted and needed and also what you wanted to be kept far away from you.
Subtle love only came into the picture when the two of you collided, When the two of you realised that the only people you wanted were each other and when you realised that that meant dealing with every hurdle that you faced individually, together.
It came into the picture when you realised that Okoye had many things to say to you about how she felt, but struggled to get it out in the presence of others or with great gifts that were
-other than materialy- quite useless .
It came into the picture when Okoye realised that around others you were open and friendly but often put their feelings above your own and you needed help stopping yourself before it went too far.
It helped the two of you navigate through the first 2 years of being together and after the two of you became a known couple, it only became needed more.
The fun part about it was that there was no pressure to constantly implement it, but the comfort of having it made your relationship feel much more in sync.
Almost completely unspoken words were quickly decoded when you were in public, and both of you slowly stopped hesitating to ask for help or  space, knowing that with that you could fully let go of the expectations that people brought with them for your relationship because of the love you had.
It made it easy to have completely different conversations behind closed doors, while also quietly continuing those words as the day went on without people being easily able to know exactly what was being said and what was meant.
This love carried weight in its natural existence, but it also made every moment meaningful.
Meaningful enough to be able to bicker in public without heavy words accidently being thrown out where all eyes could see.
It was the perfect grounds to safe communication, and to getting the best out of a relationship.
Subtle Love often got mistaken for Hateful Love. But it was always quite the contrary.
Tumblr media
Hours before the mission.
Heavy weighted material closed off the access to cool air to your body as you awoke from  soft noise.
You felt instant warmth from this material, like the atmosphere was giving you a soft hug. Attempting to lull you back to sleep.
Feeling hands gently placing themselves around you, you opened your eyes.
Irises of warm brown stared back at you, more aware that you were awake than aware that you were staring back at them. They brought a welcoming hello with them. A silent serenade.
They were owned by the same body that possessed the arms that wrapped around you.
Okoye.
“Morning, my love.” came the words from the lips that you’d unconsciously been staring at.
No words came out of yours. Your mind still fully absorbing her presence, and the gift that it was.
She’d placed a previously fallen blanket on you; you’d come to realise. Tucking you in before she left to tend to her General duties.
You gently lifted your arms out of the tight hold that she’s put them in.
Feeling warm enough knowing that she was there with you, you proceeded to move the rest of your body out of the blanket's grip, eventually lifting your body up to sit.
Stable in your position, you pulled her towards you. Your eyes and hers met and locked, refusing to let go of each other. All you could do was smile, the peace that you felt bringing joy with it every time.
Aeons passed before another word was spoken.
“You have to go?” you asked, though you knew the answer already.
“Mhm,” Okoye responded, bringing you into an embrace now that you were fully aware of what was happening.
“You smell good.”
She laughed, turning to kiss your forehead, before looking at you directly again.
“I’ll be gone for a while. You should sleep in. You looked really tired yesterday.” she said.
You gazed at her in question. “I should sleep in?”
She nodded, clearly oblivious to the information that  both you knew and her clearly knew too.
“Okoye…” you started, making sure that she didn’t try to avoid your gaze at you. She looked at you, guilt written all over her face.
“Yes.”
“Are you trying to make me late?”
“Ini (What?)!” she lied through her lips but the rest of her face gave her away.
“Ujaxoka (You’re lying.)" you said through a grin, more of a funny statement than an accusation.
She performed her best fake gasp, “Njani ( How?)”
You laughed, in complete disbelief that her act was still continuing. She joined in, knowing that she’d been caught but happy to entertain you.
“I already got the call from Queen Ramonda, Okoye.” you said, shifting over to allow her room to lay with you in bed.
She opted to lay on your legs, her face looking directly up at you while you played with her hands.
A heavy sigh left her system and the mini suns that you knew as her eyes grew darker than usual.
“Why don’t you want me to go?” you asked. Now avoiding direct eye contact because that would make it harder for her to want to tell you.
“I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“My entire job consists of working with weapons. I’m always in danger of getting hurt.” you tried to reason.
“I know,” she sighed, lacing your hand into hers properly before kissing it, “But it’s different when you’re just making weapons by yourself. I don’t want you fighting and getting hurt.”
Then she added, “You get reckless sometimes.”
“I’ll be safer this time.”
“You won’t”
“I will!”
“You won’t, Y/n. You say you will every time but when we get there you’ll lose yourself in the battle and forget that you ever said that.”
You stayed quiet, knowing that she was right. You did have a bad track record of putting yourself in situations that were dangerous despite promising not to.
Still in your train of thought, Okoye began to get up.
“I’ll tell everyone that you’re sick and then you'll be able to sleep in.”
She looked at you with pleading eyes. Your lack of response leaving a big question in the room.
She couldn’t wait for an answer, but gave you a kiss on the lips, promising not to be too upset if you chose to go after her.
“Okay,” you said into the open, unaware that she had heard you.
Waiting a while before getting ready, you debated whether you should've texted her saying that you were coming, but eventually settled on just showing up and dealing with the consequences later.
When you arrived with a smile wrapped around your face, you saw her grow tense.
“You’re late.” she said bluntly. Not wanting to confront the matter in front of Ayo, and especially not in front of the new Dora that was to accompany the three of you.
You went for a childish dig, claiming that five minutes wasn’t much in any case.
Though she looked mad, you still saw the hurt that shone through her eyes. Not tears, but a defeated lowering of her gaze telling you all that you needed to know.
Her words came off more harsh than your usual banter did, and you knew that a line was crossed.
“I’m sorry.” you mouthed to her, pleading for her to accept it or at least take it in. You really were, but you also wanted to keep her safe. And with the direct request of attendance coming from the queen herself, it was only right for you to show up and do your job.
Okoye knew this. She wasn’t new to what your job entailed, but she sure wished you could be kept away from all the possible danger. She gave you a side nod, acknowledging your words but showing that she was still a bit unsettled and maybe even upset by the dishonesty.
As you went onto the jet, and the young woman that was to join you stayed staring into the open, you figured she was going through her own thing.
Next came the whisper. “I don't get how this decision was made. Taking you on a mission.” she breathed out.
She was in panic mode and there was nothing you could do to stop it. It was directed towards herself more than at you but you felt the need to try to reassure her that everything was going to be okay.
“Sthandwa sam.” you whispered more effectively than she had.
“You said it yourself. We don’t know what we might encounter. Queen Ramonda thought it would be better to bring me if it’s more than we think it is. Now can you just read the briefing?” The last part was your plea to her. One that would hopefully get you somewhere in the long day. Or at least off the ground.
She continued at your request, a worried expression escaping her every time she saw your name written with an instruction to do anything at all.
Seeing this worry, you knew it was a bad idea to suggest flying alone.
“No.” she said.
“What do you mean no?” you knew exactly what she meant. You’d made a promise, and breaking that a couple hours after its creation wouldn’t make her feel like she could trust you with things like that.
When Redeh asked if the two of you were okay, you admittedly let your tongue slip.
"It’s my machine! You should feel honoured that I'm willing to use it."
"I feel sick, actually."
A gasp was let out and the two dora that sat next to you left for the front of the jet, leaving you to talk.
“Okoye, I-” you started.
You went for her hand, and she was quick to swat it away, a reflex. Immediately she linked legs with you -a way for her to show that she wanted you to stay close. and tried to get herself to calm down.
“I’m sorry. I’m just worried.”
“I know. I’m sorry for lying about not coming.”
“I‘ll be safe, I promise.” you finished.
“And I’ll be there when you change your mind.” you both laughed at this, knowing that that was the more realistic plan.
The rest of the trip to your destination was just filled with banter.
“Be quiet. Your breathing is distracting me.” she said, causing you to roll your eyes.
“Oh, okay, yeah, I’ll just stop breathing.”
“Thank you, that’ll be very helpful.”
Your gaze went back to Redeh’s seat where she watched the encounter in dismay.
Locking eyes with Okoye, you both couldn’t help but start chuckling at the clear misunderstanding.
“She’s gonna think we hate each other.” Okoye said, finally taking your hand now that things were back to normal.
“Most people already think that. I’m sure a lot of them think we called it quits a while ago.”
She agreed, realising that besides Ayo, most people refrained from mentioning you to Okoye or her to you. Assuming that the two of you were no longer an item.
You never confronted them on their assumptions, enjoying the fewer questions that came in about your relationship.
Tumblr media
When you saw the rebels approaching from all ends of the land, you had to think quickly.
Your banter with Okoye stopped and you became serious, noting that you didn’t have many options to choose from. If you shot from above they’d target your plane and wreck it, putting you at risk of crashing.
You had to help from the ground, much to Okoye’s displeasure.
“I’m gonna jump down there!” you said through your earpiece
“What! No!” your love spoke almost the second you finished saying it.
“I have to!”
“No, you don’t!”
“Okay fine. I want to do it.“
“Y/n stay in the-” before she could finish, you were on the ground and attracting the rebels attention.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” you heard as you became trapped in a circle of rebels ready to fight you.
In true Y/n fashion, you charged for them all, the cause and effect being a sharp fall and a nearly irreversible demise.
Okoye was by your side alongside the others, and although the “I told you not to jump.” was on the tip of her tongue, she refrained. Her instinctive need to protect you coming before her need to be right.
When it was all over, you made your way to her.
Slowly, you walked to the jet with her nudging; her shoulder with your own once you caught up to her.
"See. Told you I would be safe."
"I can see you limping." she looked down at your left foot, where she could clearly see you trying not to put weight on it.
You relented, getting rid of your act and limping more consistently. The pain was excruciating.
“I think it’s broken.”
Okoye stopped dead in her tracks. "Of course it is."
Inspecting your face for any indication that you were overreacting. When she couldn't find any, she was quick to lift you up bridal style, not wanting any pressure being placed on the offending ankle.
You watched her walking with you, smiling up at her.
“You look rather pleased with yourself.”
"I am." you continued to smile.
When Redeh looked back to see you being carried by Okoye, with a bright smile on your face, she felt a sigh of relief. Not at your injury, but at how content the both of you looked in your moment of chaos.
You weren’t like her parents after all. Or like any couple she’s ever seen. After seeing you at your worst (though she knew far worse had most-likely happened before), she’d expected one of you to stop trying, or stay angry forever. She didn’t expect to see organised disruption.
Even as you flew back to the city, and Okoye determined that you had indeed broken a part of your ankle. It was calm. There was synchronisation even when there were problems.
You threw in your jokes here and there, “Who could have predicted that?” Okoye rolling her eyes at you.
It was reassuring, seeing how subtle the obvious love could be. How well it worked for the two of you. How almost therapeutic it was.
Her ideas of love always came in pictures of no complication at all, but seeing the smiles plastered on your faces made her feel just as excited as any grand gesture she’d ever seen would have..
Looking at Ayo she smiled for the first real time that entire day. “They’re good for each other.”
Her successor looked at her fondly. “They are.”
And on the other side of the Quinjet, where you laid with your foot supported upright for the trip back, you gazed up at your favourite 2 things again.
Your suns. Warm and full of life. Staring down at you. They made your pain go away -even if only theoretically-.
They told you everything you needed to know about their owner. They exposed every soft spot that she had for you. They were your symbol of subtlety.
“I love you.” you said to the woman who held you.
“I love you more.” she planted a peck on your forehead, before laying her head against the back of her seat, closing those eyes for a while.

ONE THING I ABSOLUTELY LOVED about wakanda forever is how shuri never admitted to seeing killmonger in the ancestral plane. nakia asked her twice, and she disclosed not a thing. so i've been mulling over two questions: will shuri ever admit to seeing killmonger? and if so, who will she tell?
i was thinking of writing up a meta, but i saw the scene too clearly in my head. so i wrote a story, a short one, about 1.4k words. tw death mention. i call it, cat's got your tongue. i'm kidding. it's untitled.
i haven't written fanfic in years, until wakanda forever, apparently. the power of black women front-and-center on screen, eh?
anyway, i think yes, shuri will eventually admit to seeing killmonger. but to whom? well. . .
.
.
.
Even the loud cascading water of Warrior Falls could not mask the sound of footsteps on rocks. A perk of being the Panther. So when a certain former member of the Dora Milaje appeared behind her, Shuri did not have to turn and look back over her shoulder to verify. She remained sitting on the edge of a rocky outcrop, legs dangling over a crystalline pool of shallow water. "If you're here to vent about your new suit, Okoye, your very long list of edits is still underway," said Shuri, keeping her eyes straight ahead. The golden horizon made the reservoir shimmer.
"It is not my suit I am concerned about. At least, not today." Okoye went to Shuri's side, and this close, Shuri not only breathed in her faint, reassuring scent of steel and lotus flower, but she could hear her heartbeat. Another Panther Perk that felt less like an advantage and more of an annoyance. She heard not only the heartbeats of humans, but the ancient thrumming of elephants, the flitting ones of birds. Sometimes, she wondered what her heartbeat had sounded like to her late brother, T'Challa. She knew it couldn't be like Okoye's, whose heart's drum beat as resonant and steady as the tama, speaking to her in a powerful but welcoming rhythmic language only she could understand. For the first time in days, Shuri felt the tensed Panther Spirit inside her head ease.
"Then what is it, Okoye?"
"You. If you wanted to challenge for the throne, I'm afraid you are a few weeks late. Though still fully within your rights."
Shuri looked down, twisted the Kimoyo beads on her wrist. She had programmed them off so that no one, not even Griot could reach her. "I did not come here to challenge for the throne."
"Then why are you here?"
Shuri furrowed her brows. She did not know the exact reason. She hated Warrior Falls, actually. As a child, she'd always associated it with being forced to wear itchy ensembles or watch boring fights. That is, until a few years ago, when T'Challa fought M'Baku and N'Jadaka here. She now thought of Warrior Falls as the place her brother not only once, but twice nearly died in. So why did it beckon her so?
"Okoye. Do you ever think of your tribe? Before you left it?"
Okoye sat beside her. Being that she was not in her Midnight Angels suit and no longer a Dora, she wore casual Wakandan wear. A sight Shuri was still getting used to. "Of course I do. I come from a long line of shepherds and farmers. But do not be fooled, as The Border Tribe was and still is Wakanda's first line of defense. We obliterated any threat before they had a chance to even feast their terroristic eyes upon Wakanda's protective barrier. We've earned our bragging rights, as your Americans say." Okoye bumped her shoulder against Shuri's, teasing a small smile out of her. Okoye's voice softened as she sank further into memory. "My father used to grow the sweetest yellow yam. Better than W'Kabi's, but do not tell him I said that. And my mother. . . she sang me songs full of stories about the king's personal protectors, instilling in me the dream of becoming a part of the Dora. After their spirits answered Bast's call, I decided to make that dream come true."
I'm so sorry the dream doesn't exist anymore, Shuri wanted to say, but couldn't bring herself to. She blamed herself for Okoye no longer holding the title. But Okoye often assured that she had let go of the position and was ready to move on to the something more. "I do not understand, Okoye. Why must violence always be the price we pay for transformation? For progress?"
"Hm." Okoye tilted her head, thoughtful. For the first time in her life, Shuri saw shadows of black hair peeking through her tatted scalp. "Is this why M'Baku sits on the throne now, instead of you?"
"My father sat on the throne only to die. My brother sat on the throne only to die. And my mother, just the same. That throne is cursed." Shuri's voice was as bitter as heart-shaped herb tea.
"Cursed? I thought scientists such as you did not believe in curses."
"I've visited the Ancestral Plane. I—I have senses," said Shuri, struggling to explain the black-furred soul trapped in her mind, "that tread the world beyond physics. What I believe in, I am no longer sure."
Okoye turned and took hold of Shuri's hands. She rubbed her callused thumbs over Shuri's tattooed skin. "I've served under many Panthers, and from them I've learned that Wakanda's Protector is never alone. The herb is always there for you, if you are ever in need of ancestral guidance."
Shuri stood up, so quick, a cat alerted to danger. "Taking the herb is not an option for me."
Okoye stood with her, pose straight, electric, determined. "How, when it has been this way since Bashenga?"
"Because of who I saw, the first time I went there." Shuri swallowed hard. The first and only time she'd went there. She backed away from the rock's edge. The Panther Spirit growled, paced in its cage.
Okoye took hold of her arm. "And who did you see? What troubles you, Shuri?"
Shuri's dark eyes shone. She'd never admitted this to anyone, not even Nakia. "My cousin. I saw my cousin, and only him."
Silence. As deafening as the Falls. The wind blew at them. It was only until Okoye spoke that Shuri realized it was not a surprised silence, rather one where Okoye was waiting for Shuri to explain. When she did not, Okoye quirked an eyebrow. "And what have you learned from it?"
"I. . . learned?"
"Yes." Okoye circled Shuri. Even without her spear, she looked like a warrior. The water shifted around their ankles as if it, too, were intimidated. "I served Killmonger, once. Though it was brief, I have no shame in that. He taught me something valuable, that the throne matters just as much as whoever sits upon it. So. . . what did Cousin teach you?"
Ah. Shuri shut her eyes. So this is what she needed. Okoye's voice was not laden with pity or concern. But purpose. She did have a general's heart. And perhaps that's why she confessed to Okoye. They shared so much. Ramonda had stripped Okoye of her entire world; she understood what it was like to feel Queen Mother's rejection. And she understood what it meant to be pinned underneath Killmonger's sway.
Shuri recalled T'Challa once telling her that the Ancestral Plane was a very purple, but beautiful and fitting retirement. And for the most part, he had been right. The plane had been very purple, but also orange and yellow and red from the flames burning all around her and Killmonger. She felt a deep shame, seeing him. She regretted the words she told him. How he influenced her so quickly. And what type of leader succumbs in such a way? For the past weeks, a shamefaced Shuri had hid herself from everyone. They couldn't even find her in her lab. But the same compassion she extended to her enemy. . . perhaps it was time she offered it to herself.
Shuri's eyes opened, and they sparkled with renewed confidence. "I learned while anger is a valuable tool, vengeance is its puppeteer."
Okoye smiled, wide and beautifully. She stopped circling. "And you are no one's puppet." The corners of her smile faded, and she looked down at her deep blue dress, then out at the Falls. "Not even a puppet to tradition."
Shuri nodded once, understanding. She was never one for tradition, and she knew Okoye was slowly learning that about herself, too. "I will suggest to King M'Baku that we end Challenge Day. There are better ways to find a king or queen."
"Just bring with you a bowl of vegetables. He claims he cannot hear council on an empty stomach."
They laughed together. Okoye pulled her in for a long embrace. "Thank you," Shuri whispered in the former general's gold-cuffed ear, holding her tight. She and Okoye were both women who had shed old skin, who were finding their footing in newfound roles. They faced uncertainty. Restlessness, even. But they found stillness in each other, and through this, they would persevere.
The Panther Spirit leapt, bound, wind beneath clawed feet. Weight lifted. Free, at last.

Shuri : Princess of Wakanda  Aesthetic Board
Tumblr media
Hey everyoneeee!! I’m back with another character aesthetic board, I’ve done a few for namor, shuri and okoye/ dora milaje. I was debating with myself whether i should post namor x siren! reader or this one, but ended up with this one because the colour palette is quite similar to the first one, slightly turquoise/ greenish blue. I may be biased but i personally think they are *chef kisses* and I can not wait to show you all.
All in all, let’s enjoy this one ! I really enjoy making this one, because purple happens to be my favourite colour after teal blue.
P.S: if you guys still stick around reposting, like or all that jazz, I love y’all from the bottom of my heart. Stick around, because I’ll be posting namor x siren!reader in a couple days 😘😉

Shuri x Reader Rest
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You opened the front door to find Shuri standing there with her hand raised ready to knock. Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the sight. You were just about to make your way to the grassy field surrounded by the tall trees of the jungles. It was her and yours secret hideout that no one else knew about.
"Hey is something wrong?" You asked her looking over shoulder to see if she had any of the Dora Milaje with her.
She simply shook her head running a hand through her hair.
"Are we not-" Your question was cut short when her lips crashed into yours in a feverish kiss. Her hands found your waist as she backed you into the house. Shuri kicked the door shut with her foot but still managed to keep her lips attached to yours.
Your arms wrapped her neck in response pulling her closer as she swung your body around. So she could press you up against the wall, your mind was still swimming with questions. But you couldn't focus on them long enough as Shuri kissed you with a desperation. You hadn't felt from her in a long time. The last time she kissed like this was not too long after Queen Ramonda died.
"I need you to feel something real and alive right now please sthandwa" Shuri pleaded. When you tried to pull away insisting that now wasn't the time for such a thing.
You gave in.
The worry inside of you grew more and more by the second as your lungs started to beg for air. Just when you thought you were going to have to push her away. Shuri finally broke the kiss pressing her forehead to yours with her eyes closed. "I'm sorry I just really needed that it's been a long day" she whispered. Her voice a bit winded from the kiss.
"Its okay" You reassured.
The two of you stayed like that rooted in that spot for a few more minutes. But eventually you brought up your original question again. "Are we not going too the fields today?"
Shuri shook her head. "No I don't feel like making the hike I just want to stay here with you. We can lie in your bed and cuddle for a bit yeah?"
You were caught off guard with the sudden change in plans. While it wasn't unusual for Shuri to switch up on locations every now and then. Especially when she discovered a new spot with a breathtaking view. Wakanda was filled with so many hidden gems the two of you would never run out of secret meetup locations. But never had she suggested that you and her just stay here in your home. That you shared with your older sister Okoye.
Who had no idea that the two of you were dating, and had started seeing each other about six months ago. The only person who knew of your relationship with Shuri was her mother, and it was because neither of you had the heart to lie to her. Of course Queen Ramonda took notice of the drastic change in her daughter's mood and habits. Whenever she went down to the lab to pull Shuri away from her work. The Princess would already be gone, and was nowhere to be found in the palace.
Shuri would try too sneak back in during the early morning hours, but her mother was an early riser. The Queen let her daughter believe that her secret escapades went unnoticed. Until finally her curiosity got the better of her and she asked Shuri at breakfast who exactly had managed to put a smile back on her face.
Queen Ramonda was happy the two of you were able to love each other, and find happiness after the tragic passing of T'Challa. She was worried that Shuri wouldn't be capable of being happy again after his death. She became a shell of a person, and barely left her lab. Until you came along and challenged her to get out and enjoy the beauty that the world still had to offer.
"What about Okoye? You asked with a raised eyebrow. Your older sister was no longer a Dora, but instead had been given a new position. One that took some convincing for her to commit too, but was just as important. She was the leader of the Midnight Angels, and the job came with one huge perk. Okoye was no longer kept at the palace all day and night. She actually got done with her military duties at a decent time on most days, and would return home during evening hours.
"We got a couple of hours I gave her a few more tasks than normal today. She'll be busy till nightfall" Shuri told you.
"Hey is everything okay?" You didn't mean to ask so many questions, but her behavior had you a little more than worried, and now that you really had a chance to look at her. You could see just how tired and defeated she looked. There bags under her eyes letting you know that she wasn't getting that much rest. And honestly while it didn't surprise you considering all of the added on responsibility she had to deal with. Since becoming the Black Panther, trying to truly grieve her mother's death, and help rebuild Wakanda's army. When M'Baku offered to take the throne in her place until Shuri was ready was truly a blessing in disguise. You didn't think she could handle the pressure right now, but of course you weren't going to tell her that outright.
"I'm just tired that's all and I don't want to sleep in the palace. Someone always seems to need something, and even though M'Baku is king. The Council stills finds a reason to bother me on a daily basis. I just need you right now okay please" Shuri said. Her voice got lower and lower as she talked till it was nothing but a whisper. The softness coupled with the pleading tone made her even more vulnerable.
It broke your heart to see your love in such a state so without another word. You took Shuri by the hand and led her down the hallway to your decent size bedroom. The Princess had only been in your room a few times, but it still looked the same. The walls were painted in a warm brown color with a few art pieces hung up. The king size bed was positioned in the center of the room with the window right above it. The reddish brown curtains with swirling patterns on it keep the sunlight out.
Shuri wasted no time in getting more comfortable. Taking her t-shirt and black joggers off leaving her in a sports bra, and workout shorts. Under normal circumstances you would've taken the opportunity to truly appreciated her lean and fit form. The muscles in her arm and her abs were more defined than ever thanks to her constant training with Okoye, and Ayo.
But at this very moment her rest was your only concern. You followed suit changing into pajama pants, and a tank top. The perfect outfit for a long cuddle session which was probably going to turn into a nap. Shuri sat on the bed patiently waiting for you to join her laying on your back. Allowing her to snuggled up to your body and rest her head on your chest. You brought one arm down to wrap it around her body in lazy grip, while your other arm stayed behind your head. You leaned to press a quick kiss to her forehead as Shuri let out a soft hum.
Time drifted by as the two of you just laid there holding each other. You managed to stay conscious longer than Shuri did. She wasn't lying when she said she was tired. It only took about five minutes before her soft snores started to fill the air. You glanced down to see her face relax and worry free as she slept. Shuri never looked so peaceful as she did right now, and you decided that from here on out. This would become a weekly thing no matter the risk of Okoye finding out.
But what you and her failed to realize was neither of you had remembered to set an alarm. Before the cuddle session started you didn't remember falling asleep, but not too long after Shuri went under. You followed her lulled by the sound of her soft snores filled with the breeze of cold air coming from the vents. Hours later when nightfall finally arrived both of were so gone. The sound of the front door opening and slamming shut didn't make either of you stir even a little bit.
Okoye called out your name as she always did when she got home to make sure you were home and safe. Usually if you were going to be out this late, or was planning to crash elsewhere. You made sure to leave a note on the small table set by the door. There was no note so she knew you were home.
A small bit of worry struck her when you didn't reply to her right away. It was a bit early for you to be asleep already you tended to night owl. Okoye made her way to to your bedroom keeping her pace steady but quiet. Your bedroom door was ajar, so she pushed it all the way open. The sight that welcomed her had her entire body freezing up in shock as she let out a little gasp herself. But the shock left just as quickly as it arrived. Her eyes softened as Okoye shook her head with a light chuckle. She knew you had been dating someone, but she never would've guessed it was Shuri.
The Princess let out a little mumble as one of her hands started patting the spacious bed. Okoye assumed she was unconsciously searching for a duvet considering how chilly it was in your room. She tiptoed into your room and retrieved the giant cover from the bottom of the bed, and pulled it up and over both of yours and Shuri's bodies. Shuri hummed in satisfaction and nuzzled her head into the crook of your neck.
Okoye planted a small kiss on your forehead which seemed to do the trick. Your eyes fluttered open at the feel of her lips, and you caught a brief glimpse of her face. But you were so out of it all you could do was mumbled her name.
"Shhhh sleep usisi omncinci we can talk in the morning" Okoye whispered caressing your cheek.
You mumbled something unintelligible before going back under a deep sleep.
With a soft smile on her face Okoye exited your room closing the door behind her.

yesss!! im so excited for more okoye!!
I am too, love. And in honour of my excitement (and me being behind schedule for yet another work) here is something to keep my loves fed for the next couple of days until I'm confident enough to release the longer works.
Introducing... My Headcannons? My Drabbles? I'm not too sure right now. Who knows? All I know is that its something short.
Thank you to @jinnie10101 for the beautiful Nakia and Okoye icons. 🤍
“What's wrong?”
How Okoye, Nakia, and Ramonda would react to you being upset in some way.
Tumblr media
OKOYE
Tumblr media
Okoye is whatever you need her to be at that moment.
Need space? She’ll stay in the next room until you’re ready to talk.
Need cuddles? She’s not leaving your side.
Granted this is mostly because she does carry a lot more guilt about her past choices when you're upset even if it's not her fault.
It does take her a bit longer to realise that you're upset because of how busy she gets but when she notices she's quick to act.
Tumblr media
“Sthandwa sam, I’m home!” Okoye called to you after a long day of patrolling around the Borderlands after a security breach threat- one of many in the past week.
This time, it hadn't been a false alarm or a prank call, and the Dora needed their General to lead, which she did. And well, as a matter of fact.
Now though, all she wanted to do was spend her night with you, doing absolutely anything.
“Sthandwa sam?!” She called out again as she looked around for you. You weren’t anywhere out in the open, which let her know that something was off.
Inspecting the entire house and not getting any closer to finding you, she landed herself in front of the door to your shared bedroom.
‘Oh’. she thought to herself. You were probably asleep. It was still fairly early, but she knew that when sleep called, you never asked it what time it was.
She let her hand gently graze the knob as she turned it, happy that it didn’t jam in place like usual this time and wake you up. As slowly as she could, Okoye walked into the room and closed the door, seeing you laying in bed, as expected.
Strangely enough, you weren’t inside the sheets, only laying on top of them. Your back was turned away from her, and although she didn’t know it, you stared wide-eyed into the open.
Still under the belief that you were asleep, Okoye tiptoed around the room getting her uniform off, then proceeding to take a blanket to cover you up until you awoke in a few hours.
As she stood to face you, and saw your clearly not asleep form below her, her expression dimmed down.
“Y/n?” she asked..
“Hm?” was all you could make yourself say.
“My love, what’s wrong?” She caressed your cheek as she asked, going down to kiss your forehead as a form of comfort.
You didn’t respond immediately, needing to muster up the energy to explain something that didn’t make sense.
“Y/n, tell me what’s wrong.”
Silence once again filled the room. Quick to access and act, Okoye realised that it was just going to be a cuddles and no talking kind of day. She got into bed, moving you to face her, and placed her arm around you, allowing you to come closer and assume your favourte spooning position.
You stayed like that for the night.
Tumblr media
Ramonda
Tumblr media
When you're upset, Ramonda knows that you prefer to keep quiet.
She usually lets you stay silent unless she’s really worried.
You don't like being left alone without her when you’re upset, so she always accommodates that and makes sure to stay as close as possible.
You need physical comfort when you’re having a bad day, especially when bad mental days come.
She's quick to notice when you're upset, a shift in attitude telling her that she needs to get you alone to ask what’s wrong.
You usually go to the river to calm down if it’s early and cuddle there.
Tumblr media
“Y/n!” Ramonda called after you as you left the throne room after a brief meeting with the other tribe leaders. Your aura was off the entire meeting, both you and Ramonda knew that. A lazy hum had alerted Ramonda of this.
You, knowing that Ramonda would pry for answers, tried to leave and dodge the questions early. This didn’t work at all, and you were quickly tracked down and located around the corner to your room in the palace.
You still tried to avoid her, not wanting to have a moment like this right then.
As soon as you closed the door on her and sat down on a chair in your bedroom, she had already reopened the door and entered.
She approached you quickly, and knelt down in front of you. Taking your hands in hers, she looked at you, while you kept your eyes closed.
“My queen,” she said, leaning closer to you,”What’s wrong?”
You shook your head; refusing to allow her to get her desired answers from you.
“Y/n, my queen. I can’t let this one go. What’s wrong?”
Tears developed in your eyes as you let out muffled sobs, holding her hands tightly.
“I miss them, Ramonda.” you finally choked out.
“I miss them everyday, but today I just can’t bear the pain of losing them over and over again in my head.” you spoke of the family member that you’d lost recently, struggling to cope while ruling a nation.
You’d been trying your best to pretend that you weren’t in constant pain, but the facade could only last so long.
“Oh- my love,” she moved in to let you hug her, and you did so gratefully. You clung to her like when you were younger, never wanting to leave her side.
“Grief comes in life-long waves, my love. Some high waves last long, but then they crash when you least suspect it.
The only thing we can find solace in is remembering that the low waves can peacefully coexist with the high waves, only through the mutual understanding that they must each get their turn to shine through.”
You broke down completely at that, feeling relieved that at least you had her around for the harder times.
Tumblr media
Nakia
Tumblr media
Nakia always wants to talk about it. She doesn’t like letting you avoid talking about your emotions.
Nakia senses energy quicker than anyone you've ever known.
A slight shift in attitude will have her all over you.
Of course, she still likes to give you the platform to talk to her without her needing  to confront you.
Because of this she likes to give you some time to tell her what's wrong so as to not annoy you.
However, if you avoid the conversation for too long, she doesn’t have much of a choice.
Tumblr media
“Nakia, I told you that it’s nothing.” you told her reluctantly as you laid your head in your hands, sitting at the table in your home having yet another argument.
“No, that’s the answer I keep getting from you, but it’s not the truth because everytime I see you, you look like you’re struggling.”
She stood on the other side of the table, staring at you as you clearly lied to her for the umpteenth time.
Sighing, she tried to tone down her intense approach.
“Look, baby. I just want you to be okay, and I can tell you’re not.”
You relented slightly, looking directly at her, and nodding in understanding.
“I know.” you said.
You groaned, frustrated at yourself for trying to keep secrets in your relationship when you knew that communication was something Nakia needed to feel secure. You stood up, and went to her, not hugging her, just laying your head on your shoulder.
Though none of you embraced the other, engulfing the other in a hug, you were calmer. She dropped her head on your shoulder and the two of you swayed in that position for a while.
After a good 30 minutes of this, she tried again, “What’s wrong.”
“I- I have depression.” you said. Nakia -although wanting to hug you- chose to stay in her position. She was finally getting something out of you, and she didn’t want to startle you.
“I started seeing a psychiatrist for my PTSD 2 months ago and she diagnosed me last month. It’s only been getting worse lately.”
She immediately lifted her head, looking at you as you tried to hold in tears,
“Sthandwa sam,” now she hugged you and you couldn’t hold it in anymore,”Why didn’t you want to tell me?”
“I don't know… I was scared things would change, and you’d start treating me differently.”
“Y/n, I’m not going to treat you like anyone except the woman that I love. Things are gonna change, but only because I need to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself, okay?”
You nodded in agreement, sniffing through your tears as you wiped them away.
“Hey,” she said after a while, ”I’m proud of you.”
Tumblr media
Author's Note: Here's your snack before the meal, loves. I was going to add a Aneka/Ayo/Reader version but I'm tired and I know I would butcher it in my current state. Either way, hope you enjoyed.
I guess requests for more of these SHORT imagines are open

Chapter 6 - Dark Phoenix II - Emergence of conflagration
Tumblr media
Part 2:
We slowly moved inside, taking down guards one by one. Natasha secured the security room and Sam got the armory room.
Us 5 had successfully reached the entrance and the only thing we needed to enter was Nat’s signal of a clear path. “How are you guys doing?” I asked in the comms. “There are about 50 guards left inside. Klaue is at the top of the building,” Natasha informed us. “How’s our way inside looking?” I asked. “Just a second…” She said, clearly focused on what she was doing. “You’re clear, go get him.” “I’m planning on it.”
We made our way through each level quietly. Collected all the files we found, searching for Vibranium and Klaue.
In no time we were nearing the top floor. We were left with 7 men and Klaue. “You get the guards, I have Klaue,” I looked at the agents, and once they all nodded we broke in the door, not leaving a second for them to escape.
Our agents were on Klaue’s men quickly and I spotted Klaue at the other side of the room. “Sam get over here and collect the Vibranium, Nat get all their data from the main hardware, and send your team over here. I’ll get Klaue,” I said and ran to Klaue. As he saw me coming he held up a different-looking gun and he aimed at me. Kicked up a metal table and threw it at him, making him fall back into a door and roll down some stairs. I followed him to the stairway and before I got to him, he started running down the stairs. Sent a fireball in front of him, trying to stop him, but it didn’t bother him, and jumped over the burning area and continued running.
Trying to stop him I tried to fire at him but somehow he managed to run out of the building. I followed him closely and finally hit him with a fireball, making him fall to the ground. “Who are you working for? Who needs this much Vibranium?” I asked as I stood over the man. “A lot of people,” he said with a devilish smile. “Who are you providing this for?”
He looked behind me and the next second someone jumped at me, sending me about 100 feet away from Klaue. I rolled in the dirt making me cough. I looked up and saw a man in a black catsuit, helmet covering his head. “What the hell, man?” I got up and when I looked to Klaue’s way he was gone. “I lost Klaue,” I said in the comms. The cat man didn’t waste time and started punching me. I tried to block his moves, and when I grabbed his arm I burned him but it seemed he didn’t even notice. “Why are you stealing Vibranium?” He asked and I frowned. “Stealing? I’m trying to get it away from Klaue!” I explained while we kept fighting. “How do you know him?” He asked not even bothering to stop. “I’ve been after him for months, he’s supplying someone with Vibranium, I’m trying to find out who! Stop fucking punching me,” I said angrily and with a big kick I sent him back.
He got up and took his helmet off and my eyebrows shot up. “Aren’t you the Prince of Wakanda?” I asked and he frowned. “Yes, I am. And who are you?” He walked closer. “I’m Y/N Stark. I’m part of the Avengers.” His face dropped and looked where Klaue had been laying a couple of minutes ago. “I blew that up, didn’t I?” He asked and I spread my arms. “Yeah, kinda. This was the first time in 6 months that we had eyes on him, so thanks for that. Why did you even stop me?” I asked frustratingly. He seemed like he didn’t know the answer either. “I’m sorry, I thought you were with him.” “Y/N I think we found the person he’s supplying, you’re not gonna like this,” heard Sam over the comms. “Yeah, and I bumped into the Wankandan Prince. I’ll be there in a second,” I said then turned to the Prince. “If you’re after him, come with me,” I said and he nodded.
“So what is this cat thing? Are like a… Cat-Man?” I asked, not really sure what he was supposed to symbolize. “I’m the Black Panther. It’s been the protector of Wakanda for centuries, once I become king I’ll be the official Black Panther.” He explained. “Right and what’s your name?” “I’m T’Challa.”
Once we got up to where the team was I explained what happened and Natasha wasn’t happy at all to lose Klaue. “I can help you find Klaue if you hand over all the Vibranium you found so far. It belongs to Wakanda,” T’Challa said and Nat looked at me questioning if he was trustworthy. “That’ll work. Sam, what did you find?” I asked and he handed me some files. “Hadria Folks. She has an army of super soldiers with Vibranium armor. Klaue has been supplying her for the last 3 months,” he explained as I looked through the pictures of the armor and the amount of Vibranium she got her hands on. I looked at T’Challa and handed him the papers. “You’ve got a bigger problem than just stolen Vibranium.” He looked at the information splattered on the files and he glanced at me with a weird look. “Send your team home, you three come with me back to Wakanda, we’ll get to Klaue that way.”
We made our way to the Quinjet and I tapped Sam’s shoulder. “Take the files back to the Compound and look her up. We need every information we have on her. And look up this Black Panther guy too just to be sure,” I said and he sighed. “Why can’t I go with you? Wakanda must be so cool,” he whined and I chuckled. “You’ll get there, Wilson.”
Natasha and I followed T’Challa to his plane which looked very cool. “How did you lose Klaue?” Asked Natasha. “This guy jumped on me and when I got back up he was gone. I really hope he can get us to Klaue because if not I’m gonna be very angry.”
We got the plane and the technology was very advanced. It looked amazing. I stepped one step closer to a sand table and suddenly a blade was by my neck then I heard a gun being held up by someone. “I wouldn’t do that,” Natasha spoke and I carefully looked to my side to see the woman who was holding a long spear. I guess Natasha was holding a gun at her. “Okoye, they’re Avengers, lower your weapon,” T’Challa spoke and she took a look between Nat and I then pulled back the spear. I looked at Natasha and glanced at her gun, signaling that she should withdraw too. “Okoye, this is Y/n Stark and Natasha Romanoff. Ladies, this is Okoye, the commander of the Dora Milaje,” introduced us, the Prince. “Dora Milaje?” I asked. “Special forces of Wakanda,” said the woman with a straight and intense look.
Once we got off Natasha and I sat down, she still looked very unimpressed with the situation. “It’s gonna be fine, trust me,” I said to her and she just sighed, and I saw the look she gave me and it seemed she was trying to make an effort. “I trust you, not them,” said Natasha, and I put my hand on her thigh in a second, slightly squeezing. “Natalia, we know about Wakanda and they are trustworthy,” I explained and she looked at me with a tense expression. “She held a spear to your neck, Y/n.” “She didn’t know who we were.” Natasha sighed and leaned back in her seat. “I really hope you’re right.”
***
As soon as the jet landed T’Challa went ahead and then us two, Okoye followed behind. When we all reached the ground, I saw the King and Queen of Wakanda with two other women, one younger than all of us. “Baba,” he bowed slightly, then looked at us. “This is Y/n Stark and Natasha Romanoff, Avengers,” he said and we bowed too. “King T’Chaka, a pleasure to meet you,” I said and he nodded. “Likewise, welcome to Wakanda.” “Thank you, didn’t think this would be the reason for our first visit,” I said and he nodded. “Yes, it’s very unfortunate. In the meantime, this is my wife Ramonda, and my daughter, Shuri. And Nakia, member of the War Dogs, also the girlfriend of my son,” said the King, and T’Challa was quick to get flustered. “Now, I think we should get to work,” T’Challa said, trying to avoid the topic.
***
We made contact with Sam at the Compound and as he was on video call with us, we saw all the information on Klaue from what T’Challa and the others had so far. “We unintentionally found one of Klaue’s hiding places around six months ago. He had a full cabinet of Vibranium but we didn’t know who he was at the time. Then we went after him and retrieved over 100 million dollars worth of Vibranium in the last six months. And today was our first time locating such a big amount that led us to Klaue. Then we found out why he needs this much. Sam, what did you find?” I looked at him on the screen and the next second he sent over everything on the bigger screen in the room. “Hadria Folks, ex-KGB. She has approximately 15 super soldiers with Vibranium armor and weapons. There were multiple attacks in Europe, but nobody got them in time. Police can’t handle them obviously and Folks haven’t been seen in 2 months. Her station is said to be in Siberia, a familiar place, don’t you think?” Sam said and I looked at him immediately. “He’s not there,” I said, crossing my arms. “Who’s not there?” Asked Nakia and I just kept staring at the screen. “Another super soldier, he was a Hydra weapon until we got him and now he is hiding, keeping himself off the radar. Maybe he could help us,” I said and Sam interfered quickly. “We couldn’t locate him for a while now, how are we planning to do this?” He asked. “You haven’t been able to locate him. He sent me a letter about two weeks ago, saying he was in Romania. He’ll know where to find her. Nat and I will go to Romania, get Barnes and you find Klaue. I’ll get you all the Vibranium we retrieved. Are you familiar with super soldiers?” I turned to the Wakandans. Shuri typed it into her computer then multiple images came up on the screen. One particular picture is of James. “Captain America is one of them, right?” Asked Nakia. “Yes.” “Why not get him involved with this?” T’Challa suggested. “He’s got other stuff to deal with. And besides, I think we’ll be just fine doing this.”
After some discussion, they flew us back to the Compound and I was ready to go home. I really thought that this could be a promising opportunity for us to get more allies and maybe get James out of hiding.
“When will you pick up Rina?” Walked into my office Natasha but stopped at the door. “Dad picked her up already. I asked him and Pepper to watch her for a while. I don’t know how long this thing will last,” I explained and packed up all my stuff, ready to leave. “So, you’ll be alone?” She asked with a gentle but clearly seductive tone. My eyes lifted in her and the smirk on her face was undeniable. I began to walk past her and before I stepped out of the room, I looked her up and down. “Care to join?” Natasha didn’t answer, she just grabbed onto my hand and kissed me on the lips. “Great choice.”
