Hey! Check out a game I helped make in february this year :) Although I hadn't coded in GameMaker 2 before, it was interesting and quite motivating for my dayjob as a gamedev teacher.

Edit 18.04.2024: I sensed that perhaps february was too close of a timeperiod for a gamejam and I was right, I got corrected today by my team-mate xD it was december when we were in this gamejam!

Escapement Complex

Interactive digital experiment with the GameMaker engine (1280×720px) 2023

A group project, made in two days at Tallinn University during the GameMaker game jam on 9-10.12.2023. Our team happened to consist of just me and my two artist friends Ellis and Anni. None of us had used the GameMaker engine before, so we barely got it done. The theme we were given was “free at last.” We wanted to ask “what about after freedom?” The game story is that you play as a lab experiment who escaped and this is your freedom – unexciting life in a panel building with some other escapees, like a new prison. I designed the player character and did the pixel art direction.

Anni: @4nnih6 They teach game making at TLÜ and did the programming for this, putting it all together. Ellis instagram: @ellis_bug He has partaken in so many game jams!! He came up with the lab part of the backstory, plus various character designs.

Here's a presentation about the game, which shows off more assets, including some things which didn't make it in. Hallmäe / Grey hill is an alternative title for the game, referencing Mustamäe and other panel building areas of Tallinn.

Hey all! The ROTTMNT reanimate is finally out! It took such a short time compared to other reanimates but I'm happy to share both my earlier shot and a new one I got this year!

My piece for @bambeptin's Generator Rex art telephone: promises!

I did many things differently here from how I usually work (the lineless color styling and many texture gradients + layout), so this was a lot of fun! Thank you for organizing this art telephone, Bamboo! The piece before me by Bean @forestryfae was so impressive in my mind, I had to find a way to represent everything in that, as well as make my own take on it and the whole piece became a fun challenge.

[This was made at the very start of October, but posting it anyway before 2023 ends.] Just... thinkin' about life. Not a particularly good self-portrait, but I think I needed this. Missing my friends and all the good times we've had. Looking in the camera-mirror felt strange now, but it's good practice.

So one reason I've been more offline than usual, and posting more older art - I took a job in the summer which I'd hoped to make permanent, but overworked myself, and in the process - discovered that I might not be able to draw as well or as fast as I used to. Developed another bad set of habits and hurt both my arms in the process. I'm alright otherwise! Still recovering. But that summer job also really took some sort of emotional toll on me. Doing self-portraits is my way of exhuming some of that baggage I suppose. But this was really fun. And I did feel better after drawing this.

Hey all! A little update.

This past friday the 3rd, I had to bury my dear cat of many years. He was a loyal friend, well-loved by all in our family. We miss him a lot. May his soul find peace now. Good night our sweet baby boy.

Because of this and other personal reasons, I will not be making any con appearances or other big events this rest of the year. Time will tell how the healing goes, but I'm just not feeling up to very adtive events right now. Hope that's alright! People have been asking me, and I thought I should make a bigger announcement about taking a break from online art posting.

a little doodle of Miyamoto Usagi, inspired by the recent Shredder's Revenge DLC where Usagi makes an appearance as a new playable character :) He's voiced by Yuki Matsuzaki again so it's really fun to see him play Usagi again!

Been having a really hard end of august and now I'm sick too for a bit, so this was a nice break.

Krita Comic tools tutorial.... but still a WIP haha. I'm thinking this could probably be more compact for screen readers i.e. in a square format instead. This size is a template though as well. I made it on my little sibling's computer, trying to teach them the ins-and-outs of Krita for Comics in a succinct way.
