Lore Post #2!!

Regarding Kin, and part of the lore surrounding the rebellion that caused them.

Astoren, before the course of our (hopefully) beloved story, was divided into two sections in a vicouse civil war. After these battles, the losers were subjected to execution, all their children under the age of 16 forced to bear witness. These children were then labelled kin, and branded on their backs or torsos with the design of a dragon emblem. All kin are forced to become riders when they come of age (20). There are currently 13 years of kin that are serving, the youngest were only 2 when the rebellion ended.

Kin are horribly mistreated in Astorian society, being considered lower than the poorest in the slums. They were spread among the royal family and their close court to be servants.

Kin have had to survive a variety of tragedies in order make it to where they are today. Although these events are important to Kin lore, they are better saved for another day. Be on the lookout for those posts!!

Post of the day!!

Let us meet our lovely main cast, and all of the characters we have planned out so far (evil and otherwise!!)

Prequel Book Characters:

Finch: The main POV in this installment. One of the two Kin to bond originally, here we see how he survived The Keeping, his introduction to becoming a rider, and The Scorching through his eyes. Lover to Leif.

Leif: Secondary main character in these books. Accompanies Finch throughout his journey, and gains a POV when the two get separated. We see his POV mainly as a victim of the Scorching. Lover to Finch, brother to Kylo.

Kylo: Appears as a toddler/infant in this bit of the series. We see him, Leif, and Finch live through The Keeping before he's separated from his brother and Finch. Goes on to become one of the Main characters in the main series of books.

'Cold Prince': The crown son of the king of Astoren, known for being particularly cruel. He's earned himself multiple nicknames, although the Cold Prince is most common.

Prince Theodore : 'Adopts' Finch and Leif during the period of time where important members in society distributed Kin around as servants. Is generally decently nice, but is a nasty drunk.

Aurelia: Theodore's wife. Is known to be particularly nasty, and seems to have a vendetta against Leif especially. Gets into even nastier moods when she discovers another mistress in her darling husband's bed.

Main Series Characters!!:

Kylo: A newly bonded Kin rider. Ends up in some shenanigans with Silas, ending in the two becoming lovers. Ends up thrown into the midst of a rebellion, the same kind that got his and so many other Kin's parent's executed. There's one thing he knows for a fact, and that's that he can't let that happen again.

Silas: Known publicly as the mysterious vessel of the god of death, Skuld, he's brought in quite a fortune for his patron god's church. However, in private, he's a kith, and a notorious serial killer. After a particular night out drinking, he ends up waking up to a certain cheery rider in his bed. Kylo ends up being quite favorable, and thus the two of them end up having to plan on how to get Kylo's flock to stop planning Silas's murder.

Ceres: An aspiring young royal who's fed up with her two elder brother's nonsense. However, after overhearing a conversation between the Cold Prince about a new shipment of Kin, things turn for the dire, and she escapes to try her hand at overseeing new Riders. However, she learns of a rebellion against her brother there, and after knowing what she heard, she can't help but join.

Amari: A noble Raven who leaves on a trip to gather scrolls, to maybe possibly become an aspiring Crow. However, while on the flight back, she decides to read these scrolls, expecting the normal child's tales and stories of adventures from afar. Instead, she's met with the statistics of an ongoing extermination, with her Mother listed as the overseer of operations. She decides then to transfer this information to one of her closest friends, a rider in the regular branch. However, she's caught in the dead of night, scrolls on hand, and who knows what punishments await her?

Abayomi: An aspiring Redman who sailed over with multiple of his fellow soldiers to boost relations with Astorian riders. He plays a vital part in the rebellion, being made to visit various official meetings for his country.

Detailing kith, as best I can, after staying up far too late last night..

ALRIGHT!! This is the first of many original terms to come out of Astoren, and personally one of my favorites.

Kith are, very simply, cursed souls, damned by the actions of their parents. The long version of this definition though is far more interesting.

Kith are born when Astorian riders break their bond with their dragon. The bond between Rider and Creature is sacred, and formed by a tangible share of energy and magic. The two are tethered. For that to be broken, one most do something unforgivable, and a special punishment awaits those who do.

From the moment a bond is broken, a curse is placed onto the human of that bond (As dragons cannot and would not ever break their bonds. Or would they..?), making it so that if them or anyone they sleep with ever gets pregnant, they would give birth to a kith egg instead of a normal human child. The labor and birth-giving process always kills the parent giving birth, regardless of if they were the person who corrupted the bond or not. Kith eggs develop for an additional 12 months outside of the womb, hatching typically one* set of kith. This set includes a body with a Human Soul, and one with a Dragon Soul.

As the two twins age, their consciousness slowly merges, until the two bodies reach puberty and the consciousnesses fully merge, with the two able to read each other's thoughts and emotions. Once this happens, the Dragon Soul becomes aggressive and territorial towards the Human Soul, and eventually the two are forced into a fight for dominance. If the dragon body wins this fight, it kills the human body, and kills them both as the two's survival depends on both of them being alive. If the human body wins, the dragon soul is subdued and the two bodies merge into one, referred to as a Kith. Though it takes time to learn, Kith can learn to split back into their two original bodies, however only one may be active at a time.

*Twin kith are possible, but rare. The specifics will be detailed if asked!! Otherwise, they'll be saved for a post at a later date.

Intro post:

Hello!! I am the author of the up and coming Astoren Saga. Originally, I was posting everything on my main blog (@sirithesillies), but I've since decided to make Astoren it's own blog. We're currently in the beginning stages of production, planning release sometime around 2027.

About the story:

Astoren is a saga that takes place in a currently unnamed fantasy world. It follows multiple main characters a book, however our two "main" characters out of our POV having cast are named Silas and Kylo. The series follows them (and all of the other characters) as they juggle with the struggles of becoming a full fledged dragon rider, as well as finding out about how corrupt their government really is. As the series covers a variety of more mature topics (such as grief), it is rated as a young adult series. We as a Tumblr Blog will never post mature topics unless properly labeled however, so no need to worry there!!

About the Team:

Astoren's worldbuilding and development is still overseen almost entirely by the author (see below!!), but there is a small but dedicated team who works on the project together, in order to see writing can start in earnest as fast as possible. These include dedicated proof readers, Country Parents(™), and other such roles. Labeled Flock 13 for the unimaginable amounts of chaos that goes on behind closed doors.. Luv y'all though <3

Hihi!! The person you see writing all of these posts is none other than me: Sirius Bloom, August Bloom, or SLNB/ALNB. I go by many names ;)

Astoren is my first dive into the writing world (officially, I've been around for a while!! If you know my old fic accounts, no you don't..), and I hope to make a splash!! This is my baby, a passion project that I hope to make public and share to the world one day. I hope everyone enjoys it *half* as much as I do.
