⚑ Today the workout spotlight is Traps. Your Back, Jack.β € β € Homage to the baddest wrestling tag team of all time, the Road Warriors.β € β € You want trap thickness and height?β € β € Shrug heavy and shrug long.β € β € Heavy is easy using a barbell. Start slapping on 45s. I'm allergic to 10lbs lol.β € β € If you're a lightweight, no worries. Use 45 and 25 lb plates.β € β € On this day, I liked the 5 x 5 method.β € β € Warm up sets of 5 reps. Rest 60s. Slap on another 45. 5 reps and repeat.β € β € Once you get to your 5 rep max that's when your 5 working sets of 5 reps start.β € β € Done.β € β € As for the dumbbell shrugs I tend to lean on the side of excruciating volume of reps.β € β € Grab the heaviest set of dumbbells your gym has. I have to work with 100lb dumbbell limits and hence the method to my madness for commercial gym.β € β € 20 reps for the thickness. If you'd like to work some grip strength then ditch the straps shirley.β € β € You can make the two part of your trap workout.β € β € Heavy barbell shrugs first then the volume of the dumbbell shrugs.β € β € Your traps will be pre-fatigued with the heavy work of barbell shrugs and those dumbbell shrugs will feel even more excruciatingly good.β € β € Again, train safe and always progress confidently.β € β € We need the strong to survive clown world.β € β € That's it for now. More Super Fantastic Happy Christmas Time Workouts. Gainzdeer likes to bench. Confidence through reps. Become comfortable under the weight. Always save a rep in the tank. The saved rep will help you rerack. No one wants a nutcracker roll. How do you get confident under the weight? I recommend some weekly programming. Programming will help you set the pace. Start at a base. Build up weekly. Peak. Restart. Very similar to a saw blade made up of teeth-like peaks. Use different modalities such as pause reps, slower reps, pin reps etc. Get efficient and plug up weaknesses. As I get older and more white hairs creep into my beard I am either going full Savage Santa or Zeus mode. Either way, I will be happy. I need neither sled nor throne. Just give me Bench. 🐒 Who's your favorite Ninja Turtle? My Workout + Suitable Avatar. It didn't last long, 1 week. The momos in charge locked us up again in Toronto. No gyms again. That's my unemotional statement. I will continue to log any workouts but will dig into the archives for those who train at home or are in free cities. My goal is to be as efficient as possible in my 1hr allotted time. Big compounds and exercises I cannot perform at home. On this day, Gym date 20201117, I decided to perform Time Under Tension reps, slow reps for Squats and Bench. Give myself a break CNS wise as I lifted heavier early in the week. However, I wanted to keep my exercises challenging. I do so by changing modalities, styles, tempo, effort, reps etc. I go to the gym to work not to mickey mouse around. It was a good day. ⚑ It's been a while. Trying to snap the IG algorithm. Possibly too much Toxic Mascularity. Have been working on Vol2 & 3 concepts. Took me a couple of days to transcribe my Sept 2020 workouts. I'm going to post some of my workouts and add a character that best exemplifies the nature of the workout. Plus, I want to draw more characters. Just starting the development of this idea and will add some exercise illustrations to support it later. Stars: My rating out of 5 stars. Usually a heavier style, difficult lifts, or volume intensive workouts will have more stars. Title: the WOD (Workout of the Day) Date + Label. The Letter: designates the order of exercises. Complete the letter A before B. Or complete Letter A1 & A2 exercise before moving on to B. Exercise: the Exercise Name, set x reps and special instructions. Muscles: Right justified within the exercise block is the main muscle group worked. A simple reference if you're skimming through for new ideas. Anatomy: An anatomy chart displays the main muscle groups within the workout. Workout Summary: I start with my big compounds that I track numbers then shift to accessories or body part specifics. A&B. BB Shoulder Press & Squats. My big complex lifts (A) push & (B) hinge. Not sure what weight to use? start with a 10 rep max. C. Barbell 45Β° Back Raises. My indulgence big heavy. It helps my deadlifts and best booty gainz. But be safe. You can substitute with 5 sets x 10 reps, if you're feeling soy. D. Machine Lat Rows [Dead-Stop] was aiming for some starting strength and kept it in the low rep range. Thickness. And added a drop set. E. Lat Pulldowns. D was my horizontal pull. E was my vertical pull. F. Face Pulls to finish off my traps and back, not to mention rear delts. Take care of yourselves. β€œWeak people revenge. Strong people forgive. If I'm going heavy on bench and dumbbell press and flyes then I will play with the tempo. I'm old. I've got 27 years of gym mileage good and bad. πŸ’ͺ Whacca gonna do brother when #ArmDay runs wild on you!! Maybe one of my first memories of the importance of Arm Day was from WWF Hulk Hogan in the 80s. In my early 20s, in university, it was #nWo Hollywood Hogan and the peak of #wrestling which fueled my workout motivation. The interwebs was slow af, the information stone age and sweet screeching sounds of archon dial up EEEEEEEEE!!!. Oftentimes, we can get into a rut of repeating the same exercises over and over. One quick way to change things up is by changing the angle of the exercise. As for this bicep exercise, it is a variation of the standard hammer curl but with the pulley brace set up high instead of down low. You can adjust the pulley brace at various heights. They all feel a bit different. It's good to train biceps at all angles: where elbows are behind the torso, pinned by side, and elbows up high. Think about the full movement of arm and what it can do. You can change the tempos as well. Usually quicker tempos for my big heavy movements at the beginning of the workout. Then secondary movements with slower negatives and bicep exercises are great for the contraction squeezes. Feel the blood flow. Hit my music! These are text based version for those interested in full workouts. These are workouts that I base my illustrations from. This is a deep in my #workout methods and protocols. πŸƒπŸƒ Prepare for battle. Pick your cards. In my days of darkness I came up with this little idea. Not sure what this will transform into. I use to have a choose your adventure book back in the late 80s "Sagard the Barbarian #2 The Green Hydra". I loved the concept of a book (a game book) that the story changed based on your choices. Walking into a gym our brains go through this process. The more techniques we have in our arsenal the better we can adapt. Just a barbarian deciding how to slay lizardous things. This is part game, part fortune teller, part teaching tool, part motivation and using instagram carousels. I did try and balance it out and there's 16 combinations based on the 2 exercises. How to play: 1. Every slide will give you a choice of 2 cards. 2. Pick a card before moving forward. 3. Your choices define your plan of assault. 4. Or cheat and choose what you like. I don't judge. πŸ‰ A little #DragonBall #Goku Redux. I hope I earned some smiles. My warm up ended up taking longer than I wanted. I wanted to redo my #Saiyan #Bench as the original was done 4 years ago. Don't call it a comeback. Added some fx to the time lapse and unfortunately there was more but didn't realize my video capture crashed after a bit. I have included the video, new illustration and old illustration. As for the exercise, GVT is German Volume Training. Lots of volume, I recommend to start at a lower percentage such as 60% of your 1RM if you haven't tried it before and build up from there. Furthermore, increase your rest time to start and decrease it over time. The weight For example, if you can bench 185lbs, 10 sets of 10 reps then increase 5lbs the next time you perform the exercise. GVT is a protocol that does a toll on the body so I recommend approximately 2 weeks before doing it again. Learn. Apply. Filter. Make it your own. Repeat.
