come morning light
A Hogwarts era Hinny fic where James and Lily Potter live.
Chapter 4: myteries afoot in which the Golden Trio plot and Harry is most definitely jealous, but again, don't tell him or Ginny that.
Then their eyes meet and they blush. Harry shuts his mouth and smirks. He wishes Ginny were here so they can exchange their Ron-and-Hermione-are-being-weird-cute-again look, but then remembers the burning slap in the face that was walking in on and her and Corner, and stops.
“Well?” He clears his throat and his best friends jump apart. “Is it burning?”
“It’s a little hot,” she frowns. “But nothing like what you clearly experienced at breakfast.”
“So it might still be for Harry, but we might have been caught in the crossfire,” Ron furrows his eyebrows, looking at Harry worriedly.
“Or it might just be because it’s been a little while since breakfast,” he counters. Ron and Hermione always worry about him. They’re nearly as bad as his parents. “Because it’s not just me. There’s something off about this whole thing, and basically the entire castle.”
Read from Chapter 1.

Hi, I decided to try something new.
The Aspec Year is a writing challenge to write one fic per month with at least one aspec character in it. It lasts twelve months, aka the whole 2024.
It's got prompts, too, but you can choose to ignore them; the important part is the aspec character, the prompts are just here to offer some more inspiration. You'll notice some of them are usually seen as romantic: that's on purpose, as a challenge to explore them in atypical ways.
The idea is to post on Ao3 in the collection linked above, but if you want to only post on tumblr that's fine, tag me and the challenge (#theaspecyear) so that I can reblog your works.
Basic rules:
1) Every story must contain at least one aspec character. Canon and headcanons are both fine, but while canon orientations don't need to be explicitly mentioned, I do ask that your characters' orientation is either mentioned or described in your story if they're not canonically aspec;
2) Use appropriate warnings tagging your stories;
3) If I find that your stories are not respectful of any category of people (be it by gender, sexual/romantic orientations, race, religion, and so on), I'll remove them from the collection. Be respectful with what you write. This doesn't mean that you can't write hard topics or morally black characters, but it should be clear that your characters' beliefs do not reflect your own.
The prompts:
January: Love potion (does it work on aro people? does it not? what effects does it have?) February: Valentine's Day March: Friendship April: First date May: Kids June: Mermaids July: Beach August: Birthday September: School October: Autumn November: Break-up December: Cuddling
I hope to read lots of aspec stories in 2024! 🧡💙

accommodations i’ve had approved as an autistic college student
helloooo today i finally had a meeting with the disability office and have accommodations after 2 years of being in college without them. im autistic and have cptsd/dissociative issues and had a hard time finding what was even available to me to request for accommodations so i wanted to make a list to help anyone else who might be having trouble.
• Priority registration
i get to register for classes earlier each term to make sure i can create schedules that’ll work for my routine
• Extended time on assignments
self explanatory i think? was also offered extended time on tests or a separate room to take them but testing isnt where i struggle
• Flexible attendance
as long as i email beforehand i dont have to stick as strictly to professors attendance policies
• Alternative formats
if i buy a physical textbook i can request the ebook/pdf/audiobook for free to have multiple methods of studying depending on what works for me on a given day
• Note taking
allowed to audio record class and send to a service called messenger pigeon who will give me a transcript of the class and professional notes based on it
• Access to lecture notes
able to access professors lecture notes prior to class/instruction
• Devices
allowed to have phone/ipad/laptop for social buffering and notes in classes that may have policies against electronics
• Flexible participation
no cold calling, option to work alone for group projects/assignments, not required to present in front of class
if anyone has any questions lmk these are just what i have been able to get at my school so far! hope it helps
edit: this is blowing up so fellow autistics, students, language nerds, etc pls be my mutual i want friends lol my dms are also open any time !!

Fascinated by stories of the - I guess you'd call it the "stolen identity" genre, like, of the Anastasia Romanov variety. But - from both sides.
Your husband has been at war for thirty years. You married when you were teenagers. The man who returns bearing his name looks... plausible, you don't remember his eyes being quite so blue, but it's been thirty years and it's not like you could ever afford to have a portrait painted. He knows your name and the names of your children and your parents, but there are curious gaps in what he remembers. But war does things to the mind. And if he's kinder than you remember? Kind enough that, maybe, you let yourself believe...
No one has ever looked twice at you, since you're just the maid, until the day a revolutionary bomb goes off, blowing a crater in the summer palace. The famously reclusive duchess and the rest of her household lie dead in the rubble. You know that you and she were the same dress size. You know where her jewels are kept. Most importantly, you know the location of the secret tunnel that leads down to the docks, and to a life overseas that would be torturously hard going for a poor maid, especially one suspected as a thief, but a lot more comfortable for a royal in exile...
The old king's most faithful retainer swears this is the heir to the throne, raised in secret and trained to one day step into his father's shoes. As the usurper as dragged off the throne, she screams that the old king's children are all dead, she made sure of it; no one pays her any heed. (Maybe they should have...)
The man in the tavern is buying drinks for the whole bar before he sets sail tomorrow for the far side of the world. He's got it all figured out - a ship of his own, retirement to a tropical paradise when he gets sick of the pirating life. His lip curls as he talks about the stultifying boredom of the aristocratic world he's already left behind. You find out that his parents recently died, and the estate is in the care of his younger sister, who was only six when her brother first left home two decades since. Between the lines, they sound like a good family; they sound like they love him, the way your family never did. Your heart aches. He shows you portraits, letters, before shoving them carelessly back in his coat pocket. They would be so easy to lift...
It's a surprisingly common concept and I just love it. It's The Return of Martin Guerre; it's multiple 90s romcoms; Agatha Christie pulls it half a dozen times. Sooner or later, it crops up in fanfic for just about any fandom with a royal or aristocratic main character.
And I can see why, because there's so much richness to it. From the outside, it can be anything from a horror story to an unlikely love story; from the perspective of the person pulling off the con, a heist movie or a tragedy or a heartwarming tale of found family. And then there are the longer-term implications: What happens if you wear a mask so long that it becomes who you are? What happens if you come to love the "replacement" to the point where you don't want to find out the truth? What is it like to uncover such a deception a century down the line, to find out that your great-grandfather... wasn't?
Just. Identity stories, man. <3

Fantasy stories should have more "what do you mean you don't do X" things in compare and contrast of cultures. Like the differences between peoples aren't the stuff they show off as "These Are Our Culture :)" things, fucking everyone has food and music and folk tales, but the things they've always assumed that everyone has, and are baffled to discover that they don't.
The people who are always barefoot are baffled that humans don't have a wash basin at their front door where people can wash their feet before stepping inside?? Do they just walk in with their dirty feet? The fuck do you mean you take your shoes off?
Humans don't have small baby-sized spellbooks for toddlers who just learned to read, so they can safely learn to practice tiny cute and harmless, age-appropriate magic spells before progressing to more mature and demanding spells? What, do they just throw teenagers completely unprepared into the arcane - hold the fuck up, is that why human sorceror mortality is so fucking high?
Dwarves who have always wondered why the entrance to human residences is so fucking big, why do you need to take up such a large area for a door that's just there to lead downstairs to the underground halls? Are the timber walls really as thick as a human is tall? What for? And once one of them gets invited to a human house to stay and rest, nobody ever fucking believes her: That's not the entrance, that's the whole fucking house. 100% of the human house is aboveground, there is no tunnel to the underground levels. They might have a single storage room down there, but the aboveground section is so fucking big because that's the whole house.
This post was brought to you by: People who butter their bread and who had no idea that there are people who put mayonnaise on their bread, and people who put mayo on their bread and had no idea about people who put butter on their bread discovering that the other kind of people exist.

Though, why was this black-haired boy who reeked of human-like nothing else defending him?

They could use a bit of cash. “You guys can just break me out afterwards, right?” Annabeth looks like she’s considering it. “No, guys,” Grover says. “No.” If Percy has to spend the rest of his life cleaning up after the gods, then he might as well start from the beginning.

So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????
I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.
Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

Clary and Simon really have one of the best friendships in TSC. The images of them as little kids fighting over pop-tarts in a tree house HAS me, as does the fact that they used to stare at the glow in the dark stars on Clary's ceiling. They really would do anything for each other and embodied the parabatai bond long before they had ever even HEARD of the Shadow world. They really have something special and I love it.

The funny thing is that Robert Lightwood might be my favourite modern TSC character out of all of them. Like, Clary and Simon are up there and give him a run for his money, but Robert is just so... complex, I guess? And I feel like the "bigoted asshole grows and improves as an adult" story isn't one we get to see enough. Also I adore his internal monologue it's super gay and unhinged.
him being your favourite is kinda real actually 😭 like you're so right he's such a unique character & everything we know about him is so interesting. I wish we got more of Robert obviously but at the same time, there's so many layers to the scenes he is in I can't complain too much. he's just so interesting to think about.

my little headcanons (pjo) - part 5
percy and annabeth are often very unapproachable, and not very likable at first impression
first of all, they are both tall, tan, and attractive, both with strikingly beautiful eyes and in amazing shape. some people might assume they are snobby and cocky. but they also seem very standoffish. they act like they are ready to be attacked at any minute - always watching the doors and windows, heads snapping towards loud sounds and movements, giving everyone critical looks - like i feel like people might assume they are some kind of undercover spies or something. and sure in some scenarios, if they are out with friends/family and in a relaxed state, if you meet them then, they are great! but most of the time when they are in the mortal world, they are constantly on the lookout. they are paranoid and don’t trust people easily, in fear someone is a monster or enemy in disguise. imagine just trying to kindly introduce yourself, and percy gives you a very intimidating and uncertain look. something about him just feels dangerous. and then there’s annabeth, whose fierce grey eyes are staring into your soul with unsettling intensity, and you feel like she is extracting every piece of information about you. no subtlety whatsoever. and you’re not sure if they are police officers or ex-military or what, but something about them tells you that these two have been through some shit. i’d be like “who the fuck are these people?” but once they trust you, you would see that percy is a hilarious sweet goofball and annabeth is super warm and loving. they are both very witty and sarcastic, and head-over-heels in love with each other. they are a blast to be around, but only if and when they trust you.
