We weren’t even planning on moving home for at least another two years but I suppose life doesn’t always go to plan. We’re…

I know, I know, it’s only October! Halloween is almost here so we’re putting up Halloween decorations, planning our costumes and looking forward to watching a Halloween movie. See my Halloween movie bucket list here. However, I am seriously excited for Christmas and have started planning my Christmas shopping. Being massive Disney fans, I always end up buying a few items from the Disney Christmas range. I’ve been looking at their Christmas selection for a few weeks now, so here I list my favourites.
I have visited our local Disney Store so many times over the last few weeks, I’m sure the cast members are starting to recognise me. Just the other day I was walking around the store, taking photos of all the lovely things I am adding to my Disney wish list. I have bought a few Disney Christmas decorations to add to this collection. However, there are still lots of lovely things I’d love to buy, if only my purse would allow it!
Here are some of my favourite Disney Christmas things I spotted online at ShopDisneyUk. Hopefully I will be able to get one or two more things this year.
I love buying a new Christmas jumper every year and it’s tradition for our family to each get new Christmas pyjamas on Christmas Eve. I spotted these children’s pyjamas and the jumpers are for adults. They look so cosy and are ideal for a perfect Disney Christmas.
In our house we don’t drink a lot of hot drinks. I don’t drink any hot drinks at all and the rest of the Disney Mad Family only have an occasional hot chocolate or green tea. But these mugs are very cute and would be great for whipped cream topped hot chocolate on Christmas Eve. When I saw the Disney Christmas throw I fell in love with it! I love having a soft, warm blanket to snuggle up with when watching Christmas movies and this one is amazing. I also love the tumbler with the straw. We seem to have dozens of these types of cups in our house, but one more wouldn’t hurt ; )
All the Disney Christmas Tree Ornaments are so incredible it was hard to choose favourites. In the end I chose this selection of ornaments. We already have the Up house and we bought the Chip ‘n’ Dale hanging ornaments in Walt Disney World. The rest of these are really lovely but unfortunately I can’t buy all of them this year. I hope they keep them around for next year, so I can add to our collection a little bit at a time. If I do get to buy one more this year, I will get the Tinkerbell bauble where she is sat on a cute vase. All Disney Christmas tree ornaments are beautifully made and look amazing on our Christmas tree. If you are only going to get one item from the Disney Christmas range this year, I highly recommend getting a tree ornament.
These last few items are miscellaneous ones that I think are lovely. Advent calendars are a must to help everyone get in the festive spirit during December. This one is customisable and reusable because you can put anything you want in the drawers. We have a similar one here and I always put a mixture of things in the calendar. I put chocolates, small stationery items, hair accessories and nail polish.
The Eeyore cuddly toy is super cute. He is a special edition cuddly, but they also do another Christmas Eeyore. The little craft set is a ‘Make Your Own Decoration’ set. It looks like it would be great fun for kids and a really cool activity on the run up to Christmas.
Everybody in our family loves watching Christmas movies and TV programmes. I saw this Disney Christmas DVD online. I’ve never seen it before, so I’m not sure if it’s a new collection but I think I’ll buy it to watch while I’m wrapping Christmas presents this year. Does anyone else leave all their wrapping to the last minute? I tell myself every year that I’m going to be more organised but still end up doing the majority of my wrapping the night before Christmas Eve.
Last but by no means least is the really pretty Disney Christmas gift boxes. They do a variety of sizes and I think they’re such a great idea. Some presents are not easy to wrap because of their shape, so gift boxes can be handy for those tricky presents and they still look festive.
Have you started  your Christmas shopping yet? Do you have any of the Disney Christmas range on your wish list?
If you want to see more of our Christmas plans, please follow us and keep updated with new posts.
Disney Christmas Range – My Favourite Items I know, I know, it's only October! Halloween is almost here so we're putting up Halloween decorations, planning our costumes and looking forward to watching a Halloween movie.

Hi all and welcome to my latest post. I thought I’d write about Epcot today to share some information that we have discovered over the years and hopefully help people out if they’re unsure on what there is to do at this amazing park. I will admit that over the years I probably didn’t appreciate Epcot as much as I should have. I always felt like it wasn’t as much fun as the other parks and Florida weather is always so hot that walking round World Showcase took a lot of effort. However for the last few years I have come to appreciate everything about Epcot and I love to wander round all the World Showcase pavilions, sampling the food from the 11 countries and then sitting down to watch Illuminations: Reflections of Earth after a long day.
About Epcot
Epcot stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. The original vision that Walt Disney had for Epcot was for it to be a futuristic city in Florida. This vision was never developed and instead, in 1982, Epcot opened as the second Disney theme park to be built in Orlando, after Magic Kingdom. Epcot is actually much larger then Magic Kingdom, spanning across 300 acres. The park’s ‘icon’ is Spaceship Earth, a giant structure at the front of the park, housing a ride of the same name.
Epcot is split into two main areas; Future World and World Showcase. World Showcase is where the 11 country pavilions are located and Future World has areas dedicated to technical and scientific advances through the years.
World Showcase
The 11 countries currently located around World Showcase Lagoon in Epcot are Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, United States of America, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom and Canada. There is space available for another 9 countries and there have been rumours that Brazil will be the next country pavilion to be created. In each country pavilion you will find shops, restaurants and buildings that are commonly found in their respective countries. Often the staff working in the country pavilions are also from that country, which I feel gives them an extra magic touch. There are also rides in some of the countries, including the extremely popular Frozen Ever After ride in Norway.
I don’t have a favourite pavilion, they’re all beautiful and unique so it would be too difficult to choose. However, I do love the Mexican village and marketplace inside the pyramid at Mexico’s pavilion, the stunning traditional Morrocan market in Morocco pavilion and the amazing waterfall in the Canada pavilion. The United Kingdom pavilion has an English village setting and is so beautiful but this pavilion doesn’t actually have a lot to see, so I do hope they add to this one soon. There have been rumours of a Mary Poppins ride being added to the UK pavilion at some point, but this has not yet been confirmed so could be years away.
World Showcase has such a lot to see, so make sure you give yourselves enough time to explore every nook and cranny. I’d recommend you spend at least a day on World Showcase. We have visited Walt Disney World 11 times already and still discover something new at World Showcase because we never used to spend a lot of time at Epcot, but on our most recent holiday we stayed at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, which is just a short walk from Epcot so we got to spend a lot of time there throughout our 2 week holiday.
Future World
Future World has several areas to explore and enjoy. There are some fantastic rides in the Future World areas and some great shops to buy all the cute Disney merchandise that you might have had your eye on for a while.
Spaceship Earth is located in Future World. You can’t miss this attraction as it is the park icon. This ride moves along a series of displays showing how humans have communicated through the years and how our communication technology has advanced. It’s a 15 minute ride and is perfect for when you want to cool off and rest your feet.
Test Track is our favourite ride at Epcot. The queues do get really long so make sure you get a Fastpass+! Everyone gets to design their own car and save it to your Magic Band or park ticket, which then gets uploaded to the system as you board your car and as the car goes around the track each car gets marked on several features. The final feature is a speed test and the car goes as fast as 60mph or more. As you leave the ride you enter an interactive area for everyone to enjoy extra attractions such as creating an advert for your car, which you can also save to your Magic Band.
Mission Space is another simulator ride, where you get to experience what it’s like to be an astronaut and you get to travel into space. It’s not one of my favourites; I always feel quite sick when I come off it. You can choose from the Orange mission experience or the Green mission experience. The Green experience is less likely to cause motion sickness, so choose this one if you’re not sure which one to go for.
The Seas with Nemo & Friends takes you on an underwater trip where you get to view the massive aquarium, which you can also view when you get off the ride. There is also an interactive animated show starring Crush from Finding Nemo, where you can ask Crush questions.
Innoventions used to have lots of exhibitions to enjoy, but the majority have now closed and so far Disney have not announced what the plan is for this area. This area does have a character spot, where you can meet Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy. As you can imagine, the queues get long for this character meet so grab a Fastpass+ if you can.
The Land pavilion has two attractions which are also really popular rides. Soarin’ Around the World is a simulator that takes you on a tour of different regions around the world. Queues for this ride are notoriously long and Fastpass+ tickets get snapped up so quickly!
Living with the Land is the other attraction at The Land pavilion and we absolutely love this one. It’s a slow moving boat ride that takes you through various greenhouses where you will learn about future innovations of agriculture. This isn’t a very popular ride and some people feel it is due an update, but it’s another nice family ride where you can just sit and cool off.
Imagination is home to the Journey into Imagination with Figment. This is a dark ride so some children might find it a bit scary, but it is a lot of fun. There is another interactive area after this ride called ImageWorks: The What-If Lab, which is popular with children so if you want your whole family to make the most of the day at Epcot, then definitely spend some time in the lab.
Dining at Epcot
There are so many choices of food and drink at Epcot. Each country pavilion has various dining options and because the food in each pavilion is based on the food from it’s respective country, there is so much variety. You can have fish and chips in the UK, pizza in Italy or fajitas in Mexico.
The table service restaurants in Epcot are
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall – Norway
Biergarten Restaurant – Germany
Chefs de France – France
Coral Reef Restaurant – Future World
Garden Grill Restaurant – America
La Cava del Tequila – Mexico
La Hacienda de San Angel – Mexico
Le Cellier Steakhouse – Canada
Monsieur Paul – France
Nine Dragons Restaurant – China
Restaurant Marrakesh – Morocco
Rose & Crown Dining Room – United Kingdom
San Angel Inn Restaurante – Mexico
Spice Road Table – Morocco
Teppan Edo – Japan
Tokyo Dinning – Japan
Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar – Italy
Tutto Italia Ristorante – Italy
Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria – Italy
As you can see there are loads of Table Service restaurants at Epcot and as well as these you can also choose from all the quick service counters too, so you have plenty of choice and will certainly not go hungry at Epcot. If you would like to eat at any of the Table Service restaurant, you really should try and get a Dining Reservation in advance. The reservations do get booked up quickly and the stand by lines tend to get quite long.
Festivals
Epcot hosts many festivals throughout the year, which always pull in huge crowds and add to the incredible atmosphere at the park. The festivals held at Epcot are
Festival of the Arts – January to February
Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival – March to May
Food & Wine Festival – September to November
Epcot’s International Festival of the Holidays – November to December
We have been to Walt Disney World at various times of the year, so have been lucky enough to visit Epcot during the Flower & Garden Festival and the Food & Wine Festival. The Flower & Garden Festival is beautiful, with stunning topiaries, themed gardens and wildlife habitats all around the park. There are also outdoor kitchens and a scavenger hunt around World Showcase. The Food & Wine Festival is our favourite, because we love food. Located all around World Showcase are booths serving food and drinks specifically created for the festival.
Epcot Resort Area
There are many Disney resorts located around Epcot and some are within walking distance of the park. Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club, Disney’s Boardwalk and non-Disney Swan and Dolphin Hotel are all visible from International Gateway, which is another entrance to Epcot away from the main gates and is located between the France and United Kingdom pavilions. There are more dining and shopping options in these areas. You can even hop on the Friendship Boat over to either of the resorts or to Hollywood Studios, although the boats aren’t currently travelling to Hollywood Studios while extensive works are going on at the park.
Epcot is such a wonderful park and has a lot of fun and exciting experiences to offer. I highly recommend you take your time around each area of the park, to fully appreciate everything there is to enjoy and you don’t miss anything at all.
Have you visited Epcot yet? Which attraction is your favourite? I would love to hear your Epcot stories.
An Essential Guide to Epcot Hi all and welcome to my latest post. I thought I'd write about Epcot today to share some information that we have discovered over the years and hopefully help people out if they're unsure on what there is to do at this amazing park.

When I decided to start this blog, I also set up social media pages so that I could share any blog posts straight to social media and I could also engage with other Disney lovers around the world. Instagram has been my focus at the moment, because we have so many wonderful photos to share with people and this is where I found people to be most engaging. The Disney Community on Instagram are so friendly and I love seeing everybody’s photos of Disney hauls, Disney creations they have made themselves and Disney vacation photos.
In July I came across a 30 Day Disney Challenge on Instagram. The challenge was to post a picture every day related to the theme of the day, depending on which day you were on. I decided it made sense to start the challenge on 1st August, so I waited a few days before I started posting my challenge photos. It was a lot of fun because I enjoyed thinking about my answer to each day’s theme.
This is the challenge. There are a few variations of the challenge on Instagram, but I chose this one as it was the first one I came across.
I decided to blog my results so those who don’t have Instagram can see what my answers were. I’d love to hear what your answers are to any of the questions in this challenge
Favourite Movie – Beauty and the Beast is my favourite Disney movie. It’s a classic and always makes me smile. I do really love the Live Action version that was released in 2017, but the classic movie released in 1992 will always have a special place in my heart.
Favourite Song – I love music so this was a difficult question to answer and I couldn’t just choose one. So my list of favourite Disney songs is Part of your World – Little Mermaid, Breaking Free – High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast – Beauty and the Beast and finally I See the Light – Tangled. They are all great songs and make me feel warm and fuzzy when I listen to them.
Favourite Character – Ok, so let me start by saying ALL Disney characters are amazing. They are all special in their own unique way. I thought about it for a long time and finally came to a decision. Rapunzel from Tangled is my favourite character. I love how brave she is to take on a new adventure and stand up to people trying to stand in her way.
Favourite Pixar Movie – The Pixar and Disney collaboration are a force to be reckoned with. They release such fun, family movies and my favourite one is Toy Story. I remember as a child imagining my toys coming to life and this movie took that child’s way of thinking and created a movie that has become a classic and is so popular that they have now created a whole land dedicated to it.
Favourite Soundtrack – When the Beauty and the Beast Live Action movie was released, I instantly fell in love with the movie and the soundtrack. All the music and songs are written so beautifully. The story is told through the music just as much as the movie.
Favourite Princess – Belle from Beauty and the Beast has been my favourite princess for as long as I can remember, but since the release of Tangled in 2010 I have also loved Rapunzel. I would love to see a new Disney Princess added to the lineup soon!
Favourite Prince/Male Lead – Flynn Rider gets my vote here. Compared to a lot of the older Princess movies like Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, he plays a major role in the Tangled movie and I like how they shared his story alongside the main storyline.
Favourite Sidekick – Tangled features quite prominently in my Disney Days Challenge because it is such a great movie, with brilliant characters. Pascal is my favourite sidekick. He is hilarious and is an amazing friend to Rapunzel, having stuck around and entertained her when she was trapped in the tower for all those years.
Favourite Villain – Maleficent is the ultimate Disney Villain. She is evil, scary and powerful. I think Disney should build a Disney Villains park!
Favourite Speaking Voice – I couldn’t really decide on an answer to this one, because it’s not something I ever really think about. I finally decided on Gisele from Enchanted, but I don’t really know why. I think I just chose this because I enjoy the movie and couldn’t really think of any other speaking voices that stood out to me.
There are another 20 days to go and I can’t wait to share more of my answers with you in my next post. If you want to keep up with the rest of my 30 Day Challenge, click Follow to be notified of any new blog post published.
Share some of your answers in the comments. I’d love to see what you think of Disney and the Disney Days Challenge.
My 30 Days of Disney Challenge – Part 1 When I decided to start this blog, I also set up social media pages so that I could share any blog posts straight to social media and I could also engage with other Disney lovers around the world.

Our first trip to Walt Disney World was back in 2007. It was such an exciting trip and we created memories that we will never forget. From the moment we got to our resort it was a whirlwind of fun and adventure but looking back on it now there are things I wish we’d known before we got there. Including that first trip, we have been to Disney World 11 times, so I wanted to share some of what we’ve learnt along the way. Hopefully some of these things will help you to plan your own trip and enjoy your time at Disney World even more.
You will be tired on your first day (trust me!)
Admittedly we live in the UK, so have a 9-hour flight plus transfers to deal with, but we learnt the hard way just how exhausting travelling can be. On our first trip to Disney World we got to our resort late in the evening and the following day we couldn’t wait to get to a park and start soaking up the Disney atmosphere. Our park of choice was Animal Kingdom. We had no idea just how much walking there would be and just how sapping the Florida heat and humidity could be. We had an amazing day, but by the time we sat to watch the wonderful parade in the afternoon, we were all exhausted. It made us rethink our plans on our next trip, which is why we always go to a water park now on our first full day. My advice for your first day is to just take it easy, drink plenty of water and eat regularly to keep your energy levels up. If you are all feeling the exhaustion, just go back to your resort, maybe lounge by the pool for an hour or two. You don’t have to get everything done in a day.
Make use of the My Disney Experience Mobile App
On our first trip in 2007, this app didn’t exist but ever since it launched in 2012, it has been an essential tool for holiday planning and I highly recommend you download it as soon as possible. Here are some of the features the app includes
Buy theme park tickets wherever you are
Book, amend or cancel dining reservations (cancellations require 24 hour’s notice to avoid being charged)
Select and amend Fastpass+ experiences
Share your itinerary with family & friends. This is a great tool if you are going as a large group, all with your own booking and Disney accounts.
Manage resort reservations, tickets, MagicBands and cards.
Other useful features include being able to check attraction wait times on the go, find character greeting locations and times, search for firework and parade times, play a Disney Parks game to interact with your surroundings, browse restaurant menus and place mobile orders at select quick service restaurants. Disney have also recently added a Get Directions function, to help people to navigate the parks. This is a great new feature, which is particularly useful for first timers who have never experienced the size of the parks and not had chance to fully explore.
Use the Memory Maker/Photopass photographers
I can’t say enough how much I wish we had taken advantage of the Disney photographers on our earlier trips to Disney World. The Memory Maker is included in our holiday package when we book, but even if it wasn’t I would definitely pay for it. I don’t enjoy having my photo taken and prefer to be taking the photos instead, but it is nice to have family photos so as much as I dislike having my photo taken, we decided last year that we would try to get as many photos as possible together on our holiday. Every time we walked in to a park, we would keep an eye out for the Photopass photographers and get in the queue to have some photos. It’s so easy with the MagicBands because the photographer will just scan your band and the photo goes straight to your My Disney Experience App for you to view and download. We have managed to get some wonderful photos and I am so pleased that we now have family photos, that we can keep in our photo album. We have photos in front of Cinderella Castle, Spaceship Earth, The Tree of Life and many other locations throughout the park. You can even get ‘Magic Shots’, which are cute, entertaining virtual shots featuring various Disney characters depending on the park and location. We have photos with Tinkerbell, Jack Jack from Incredibles and Figment, to name a few. You will end up with amazing photos, so make sure you use this.
Select your Fastpass+ experiences as soon as you possibly can
Disney World has loads of amazing rides to experience, but some of them are extremely popular and the wait times can be really long at times, especially new rides. On the recent opening of Toy Story Land, I had heard that the wait times for the Slinky Dog Dash were up to 3 hours long! Queuing for long periods of time is just horrible and if you have children with you, it’s even more difficult because you must consider they may get hungry or need to use the bathroom. Therefore, Disney’s Fastpass+ is a great service to use. You can select up to 3 rides per person, per day and skip the long queues. With Fastpass+ you just go to the ride within your time slot, go straight to the Fastpass entrance and join a much shorter queue; sometimes you can even get straight on the ride if you’re lucky. If you are staying on a Disney Resort, you will be able to select your Fastpass+ experiences up to 60 days before your arrival date. If you’re not staying on a Disney resort you will be able to select them up to 30 days before your arrival date. Just make sure you have your Disney account set up and your tickets are linked to your account. The Fastpass queues save us so much time & we always make sure we get ours booked asap, so that we have less time queuing and more time exploring the parks.
Book Dining reservations asap
If you’re not bothered about where you eat each night and are happy to just wait for a table to become available, then you probably don’t need to worry about booking dining reservations. But if you like to eat at a similar time each day and/or want to try a specific restaurant or character dining experience, then you need to book as soon as your reservation window opens, which is 180 days before your arrival date. Some of the restaurants and character dining experiences are so popular they get booked up as soon as the reservation window opens, so make sure you know your dates and get on the phone or on the Disney Experience app straight away.
Don’t go there thinking you will be able to see/do everything
We have been to WDW 11 times now and still find new things to see and do on every holiday. We used to rush around the parks and resorts, wanting to try and get on every ride, go swimming every day, eat ice cream, see all the parades and fireworks shows and still find time to eat. But then we realised that by rushing around, we were not only tiring ourselves out, but we were also missing out on some of the smaller attractions around the parks, like the street performers, the attention to detail on the buildings, the photo opportunities and just soaking up the atmosphere. So, we now take it slowly and don’t let it bother us too much if we miss out on a ride or don’t get to see the parade that day. There is so much to do in WDW that you will never get bored, so just take your time and enjoy every minute of your time there.
So that’s all the major things that I wish we knew on our first trip, but I do have some other tips I’d like to share that will hopefully help you to make the most of your holiday.
Use the Disney transportation system but do make sure you allow for extra travelling time in case of delays or busy periods.
Use the baby swap on the rides if you want to experience rides but have small children.
To enjoy slightly quieter crowds, get to the parks before they open so you’re among the first to get into the park.
If you are staying on a Disney resort, make sure you get any Disney merchandise that you purchase sent straight to your resort, so you don’t have to carry it around with you all day.
Have an itinerary from Day 1. Even if after Day 3 you start changing it around a bit, at least you have something to work from.
Disney World really is the most magical place and you will have an amazing time, but it really does help to follow some of the tips above to get the most out of your trip. I wish we had researched a bit more before our first trip, because I know our amazing holiday would have been even more magical if we knew some of the things that we now know.
Did any of you research before your first trip? Do you have any tips that you can share for first timers? Share your tips in the comments below.
If you know anybody travelling to Walt Disney World soon, please share our post so they can read our tips.
Six Tips for your First Trip to Disney World Our first trip to Walt Disney World was back in 2007. It was such an exciting trip and we created memories that we will never forget.

It only seems like yesterday I wrote our School’s Out for Summer post and now it’s September again and back to school time. At this time of year I like to think of all the things we did over the Summer and also look forward to the different holidays coming up, like Halloween and Christmas. We visited the beach, we had days out in the garden enjoying the sunshine, days out with friends and on rainy days we built blanket forts. The Summer was so much fun and I’m a bit sad that it’s over.
I remember as a child I loved the beginning of a new school year, because it meant new stationery. I still love stationery now; new notebooks to fill with shopping lists, to do lists and ideas for Christmas and birthday gifts for people or our holiday plans. I have definitely passed my love of stationery on to our daughters and we recently went shopping to stock up on school stationery, school uniform and a few extra bits to take us into the Autumn.
Our first stop was Primark. They have such a great Disney range and although some of it isn’t great quality, the prices are cheap enough to have a little treat every now and then without breaking the bank. I bought myself a new notebook and pen while we were in there and Evie got a super cute bulldog clipboard for her bedroom. It looks great up on her wall and will come in handy to keep the weekly newsletters that the school send out.
Evie already has lots of stationery but for the new school year we always make sure she has
Writing pens
Drawing pencils
Colouring pencils
Erasers
Pencil sharpener
30cm ruler
As well as the above items she also asked for some highlighters so I ordered some from Amazon, hoping they would arrive quickly but they haven’t arrived yet so she might have to go to school without them for a few days.
I started buying her school uniform weeks ago because it’s surprising how quickly it all sells out, so they are now put away neatly in her wardrobe (I’m not expecting that to last long). Luckily the school that Evie goes to only requires the school cardigan to have a logo on, so the rest of the uniform can be bought anywhere. I usually buy it all from either Next or Marks & Spencer, although George at Asda is good for P.E leggings and t-shirts.
The first day of a new school year usually ends up being a bit stressful. We’re all out of routine because of the Summer holidays, so when the alarm clock goes off on the first day back at school it’s usually a bit of a struggle getting us all out of bed, washed, dressed and fed before leaving for the school run. I try to get things sorted out the night before so that when we wake up in the morning, we don’t have to run around in a panic trying to find everything. Here’s my list for preparing for back to school Day 1.
Shoes by front door
Coat/jacket hung up in hallway
Get uniform out ready
Make sandwiches and pack lunch box
Pack school bag with pencil case, milk money and reading books
Have an hour to relax and wind down ready for bed
I’m sure by Day 3 I won’t seem quite so organised. Shoes and coats will be stuffed in the cupboard under the stairs, getting them out of the way so I can hoover. Uniform will be dumped wherever Evie gets undressed and then come the morning there will be a mad rush, searching for her cardigan. Our Tupperware cupboard will be overrun with lids that don’t seem to match any containers. But the one thing I can always rely on is that Evie’s bag is always packed! She loves bags and is always carrying one around with her, full of a random mixture of anything and everything.
When school starts it takes a few days to settle back into the routine but it makes us look forward to the weekends even more and count down to the next school holiday. Before long we will be getting ourselves ready for Halloween parties and trick or treating and then shops will be full of Christmas gifts, decorations and food. I love this time of year when everything feels festive.
Do you look forward to everything going back to normal in September with the school routine? What’s your favourite time of year?

Life gets so busy at times, so we always look forward to our time off from work and more importantly, our family holidays. Throughout the year we try to have weekends away to break up the long wait until our big holiday, but we’re always pining for Disney.
We love Walt Disney World in Florida so try to get there every year. On our first trip to Walt Disney World we booked the whole thing through a travel agency. I’m sure we probably overpaid and we certainly weren’t happy with the flight, but the holiday was incredible and it kick started our obsession with Disney.
Since that first holiday, we have been back to Walt Disney World 11 times. Sticking with what we know, we always choose to stay on Disney property and they have a number of resorts to suit any budget. We’ve stayed at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and most recently, Disney’s Beach Club Resort. We have also gone on 3 Disney cruises, which is so perfect for us because we get to see lots of different places with the added bonus of Disney Magic for the entire time.
Our holiday in June 2018 was our first time staying at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. We looked at photos and reviews online and they were all positive, so we had high expectations.
Lobby
Disney Beach Club Resort Lobby
From the moment we walked through the lobby we knew we had made the right choice. Everything was wonderful; the smell, the decor and the atmosphere fitted perfectly with the image we had in our heads. The lobby was huge and had beautiful floral arrangements displayed everywhere, with plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs to sit and relax while watching people coming and going. One thing that we noticed every time we walked into the lobby was the smell. I can’t even describe the smell, but it was just incredible. If we could bottle it and bring it home with us, we would have! The lobby certainly made us feel welcome as soon as we walked through the doors and there were cast members everywhere, so plenty of assistance on hand if we needed it.
Check In
Check in was a breeze. There were only a few people in the queue in front of us and it moved quite quickly. The cast members working at the check in desk were friendly and worked quickly to ensure we could all get up to our room after a long and tiring journey. It took us approximately 15 minutes to queue, check in and collect our Magic Bands.
Our Room
The first thing we did once check in was complete, was go and find the elevators. They were easy to find and even though the lobby was busy, we didn’t have a long wait for an empty one to fit 4 of us, plus all our luggage. Our room was on the 3rd floor and was a great size for a family of 4. It had 2 queen size beds, a pull out sofa bed, a large dresser for all our clothes, a huge wardrobe that was big enough to fit all 4 suitcases and our hand luggage, a dressing table with mirror and a fridge to keep our drinks cool. The decor was light and airy and the beds were so comfortable. Housekeeping came in every day to make our beds, clean the bathroom facilities, replace towels and replenish any complimentary toiletries and other items that we had run out of. After long, hot days spent at the parks, it was a lovely treat to come back to a clean, tidy room where we could sleep peacefully before another busy day.
Food
The Beach Club Resort shares its amenities with Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, so when we didn’t want to venture too far, we had plenty of options to choose from. Whether it was a snack we were after or a three course meal, we had a lot of choice, and certainly didn’t go hungry.
The full list of dining options are listed here. We didn’t eat in all of these places, but we did eat at Yachtsman Steakhouse, Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, both Marketplaces, Cape May Cafe and Hurricane Hanna’s.
The food at Yachtsman Steakhouse was absolutely delicious. It accepts the Disney Dining Plan but as it’s a Signature restaurant, it takes 2 table service credits. We don’t always use up our credits by the end of our holiday, so we don’t mind using 2 credits as a special treat. For our starter we chose French Onion soup. We’ve never had this soup before so had nothing to compare it to, but it was amazing and we’ll definitely order this again. Our steak was perfectly cooked to our liking and all the accompaniments were so tasty. By the end of the meal we were stuffed, but did order The Admiral’s Cake, which is a layered cake and looked sublime. I was too full to try the cake but everybody else enjoyed it.

Beaches & Cream was our favourite place to eat, even though we only had ice cream. They do have other food on the menu, but we just go for the ice cream! The theme of this restaurant is like a traditional ice cream parlour/diner and Disney always make sure they get things spot on with their attention to detail. We have eaten there on a previous holiday and went for the Kitchen Sink sundae challenge. It was massive and it defeated us; we couldn’t eat it all so when we went back this year, we chose our own ice cream sundaes. They were still huge though! James and I had the No Way Jose, which was chocolate and vanilla ice cream scoops, peanut butter & hot fudge sauces and chocolate & peanut butter chips, topped off with whipped cream and a cherry. If you ever go to the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, you have to try this sundae. It’s quite difficult to get a table at the Soda Shop, but we learned that you can order smaller ice cream sundaes to take away.

Cape May Cafe had buffet breakfasts and dinners. We even got a reservation for the Character experience at breakfast one morning and met Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy. The character dining is always fun because you get to meet characters without having to wait in line. You just sit at your table and they come to you, so you have to keep an eye out for them before you go off to get some food. The Character breakfast gave plenty of options to choose from, including scrambled eggs, seasoned potatoes and Mickey waffles. The dinner buffet was a mixture of seafood, chicken, ribs, mashed potato and more. Buffet food can be disappointing at times, because of the sheer quantity they have to cook to provide for all the guests going back and forth, but Disney always know how to keep their customers happy and we were all able to find something satisfying to enjoy. There were also an array of mini cakes for dessert, so I just had to try one of each!
Hurricane Hanna’s has a poolside bar and serves a quick service menu, with burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches and kid’s meals. It was a handy place to go when we were spending time by the pool and just needed something quick to tide us over until a more substantial evening meal. We ordered from this counter a few times during our two week stay and even though we sometimes had quite a long wait for our food to be ready, we were happy with the quality of the chicken fingers & fries that we had.
The marketplaces were our go to for breakfast. You could grab and go from the fridges and snack items or you could get hot meals that were made to order. With busy days ahead of us, the Marketplace was where we could pick up something quickly before we made our way to our chosen park for the day. There is some indoor and outdoor seating, which gave us chance to discuss our plans for the day while eating our breakfast.
Breakfast with a view at Disney’s Beach Club Resort.
Pool
The pool at the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts is amazing. Stormalong Bay is the largest pool on Disney property. It’s such a popular pool that the cast members have to scan your Magic Band as you enter the pool area, to make sure only Yacht and Beach Club resort guests are using the facilities. Both resorts share the pool, but it’s so huge that when we went in June 2018 we didn’t find it crowded for most of the time we were there. There were a few days in the middle of our holiday that did get quite busy. There was some sort of conference in the resort, so a lot of people were attending that and then used the resort facilities in their free time. Apart from those few days though the pool was perfect. It has plenty of space to swim around, there were beach balls for anybody to use to play games with family & friends, a lazy river and a beach area to make sandcastles. The pool has a sand bottom, which is so different to all the other Disney resort pools that we have been in. The cast members also have various party games and activities that children can take part in and there is music playing throughout the day to add to the fun, holiday atmosphere. The slide attached to the pool was awesome. The slide starts at the top of the mast of the pirate ship wreck situated on the beach just outside the pool area. It’s quite a fast ride but also a decent length so doesn’t feel like it’s over too quickly and you come shooting out of the bottom straight into the pool.
Other Amenities
The resort also had plenty of other amenities to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We had complimentary Wi-Fi in resort, an ATM, childcare services, laundry rooms, merchandise delivery and pickup, plus of course the Disney transportation system. You are also able to order the Minnie Van service, which is quite a new service, but is proving to be quite popular and looks like it’s sticking around.
Extra Magic
One of our favourite things about this resort was its close proximity to Epcot and Boardwalk. They are both walking distance from the resort (although we did get the boat a few times) and really made this resort extra special, moving it firmly into position as our number 1 resort. The Boardwalk has a lot to offer in terms of food and entertainment, as well as some shops to buy Disney merchandise. Epcot is such an incredible park and staying in a resort so close to it meant that we spent a lot more time there than we have done in previous years. This was great because we actually explored the different countries in World Showcase Lagoon, more than we ever have done before. It was fantastic to discover hidden treasures that we never took the time to find on previous visits. We also stayed late one night to watch the Epcot Fireworks, Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. We have seen this fireworks show twice in the 11 times we have been to Disney World but over the last few years we haven’t found the time to watch it again, so it was amazing to watch it again and remember how much we loved it the first time we saw it. Disney sure know how to put on a Fireworks show!
We loved every minute of our stay at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and definitely want to stay there again. It met all of our expectations and we highly recommend it to anybody looking for Disney magic with extra magic touches.
Has anybody else stayed at a Disney resort? Which resort is your favourite?
Come back again soon for more Disney chat.

We had such a busy week last week! On Sunday we had a barbecue with all our family. Hosting a barbecue always ends up being a lot of work but no matter how many times we moan about how tired we are afterwards, we always end up hosting another one. We were both up before 8am, cleaning up around the house, prepping food to be cooked on the barbecue when people arrive, making a mountain of potato salad and trying to figure out how to fit everything into a fridge that was already full.
On the menu we had chicken wings, sausages, burgers, steak and pizzas. We had a pizza oven built in our garden just a few years ago and the pizzas are so much nicer than any takeaway or store-bought pizza. It was a beautiful sunny day and everyone had a great time. By the time everybody left and all the cleaning up was finished, it was almost 10pm! I don’t think we sat down for around 12 hours so were exhausted and couldn’t wait to get to bed.
Mickey Straws Disney World
On Monday it was James’ birthday, so it was his choice of activity for the day. The weather was atrocious; cold, wet and windy. Due to the weather being so rubbish his choice was to go to the cinema to watch Ant-man and the Wasp. If anybody hasn’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it. It was a great family movie, with some comedy moments and a brilliant storyline following on from the first movie. Without giving away any spoilers, you do need to stay past the credits at the end to see a post-credits scene that links to Marvel Avengers Infinity War ending. This is what I love about all the Marvel Universe movies, they have taken the time to link all the stories together to bring all the characters together.
Ant-man and the Wasp movie. Cinema
After the movie we went for tapas at a restaurant that we have walked past quite a few times in the past and always wanted to try. The restaurant wasn’t busy when we got there but did start to fill up while we ate. We had a lovely evening, but I don’t think we will return to that restaurant again. The food was just ‘OK’. We ordered a huge selection to try but nothing really wowed us. We love food and if we find somewhere that impresses us, we tell everybody about it and always make a return visit with others. This restaurant is not one of those places and I don’t see us ever eating there again. We have definitely eaten in nicer places. We enjoyed our day though and the average food didn’t spoil it for us.
On a more positive note, we did eat somewhere else last week which we have already recommended to other people. The restaurant was called Maria’s Greek Taverna in Cardiff and it was so lovely. It’s a small restaurant so it doesn’t have a lot of tables, but I think this made the atmosphere a lot more pleasant. The food was so tasty. We had halloumi fries with a honey and mint drizzle for starter and as our main meal we had a sharing mixed platter. The platter included chicken kebabs, pork kebabs, sausage and pork gyros, layered over fries and came with a tzatziki dip and warm pitta bread. It was so delicious we ate every single scrap of food on the plate and still wanted to go back for more. I will return to this restaurant and have already recommended it to friends and family.
Maria’s Greek Taverna, Cardiff. Delicious Greek food. Gyros. Chicken and pork kebabs. Tzatziki
Also last week we went to the cinema again! I know, twice in one week is crazy right. I’m not a cinema lover; I get impatient and would much rather be at home watching a movie on the sofa, in my comfy joggers with some crisps and the pause button for whenever somebody needs a toilet break or to top up their drink.
Our second cinema trip was to watch The Incredibles 2. Chloe and Evie have been saying for weeks that they wanted to watch the movie, so we bought the tickets online and made our way to the Odeon. We already had a bag of sweets from our Ant-man viewing, so just bought some popcorn and a drink. The movie was another fabulous family movie. I thought it was a little bit slow to begin with and I worried that it wasn’t going to ramp up at all. However, it did get better and ended up being a fun movie. I guessed who the bad guy was almost straight away, but that didn’t spoil the movie one bit and by the time the movie finished we all felt the Disney magic once again. We even spotted a Hidden Mickey in the movie.
Whenever we go to the cinema we always try to remember what trailers we saw. We’re not very good at remembering all of them, but some of the trailers are movies that we’d like to see anyway, so that does make it easier. I can remember seeing a trailer for Christopher Robin, The Nutcracker and a movie called The Darkest Minds, which Evie really wants to watch. I can’t remember what other trailers we saw this week, but I would like to see the three movies that I can remember, so I’ll be keeping an eye on the release dates. I know Christopher Robin is out in America already and I’ve heard some excellent reviews, but I don’t think I want to watch that movie in the cinema so will wait until it is out on DVD and watch it at home.
All in all, we had a busy, but also really fun week. It’s good to get out and spend time with the family but I am kind of hoping for a quieter week this week!
How was everybody else’s week? Has anybody else seen the Incredibles 2 movie or Ant-man? What did you think of it? Did any Disney fans spot a Hidden Mickey in Incredible 2?
Food, Movies and Family Time We had such a busy week last week! On Sunday we had a barbecue with all our family.

This or That Challenge
This or That Challenge
I saw this thread done on Jenny In Neverland’s blog and loved the idea of it. I thought it was a fun way of just learning a few things about the author and decided to post my own so that anybody who stumbles across my blog will hopefully enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Jenny’s.
So the idea is that each question has two options and I have to choose which I prefer. Some of them are more difficult to…
