Queen of the Pinups: Bettie Page
Tumblr media
Betty Mae Page, better known as Bettie Page was one of the most popular pin ups during the 1950s. She was exotic, sexy, and photogenic, casting a spell on anyone who looked her way. She could be shy, playful, even fierce, and rightfully earned her title “Queen of the Pinups”. But then she just vanished. Her face was everywhere but she was nowhere to be found, just what happened?
On the Coney Island beach in the early 1950s she was scouted by photographer Jerry Tibbs, he handed her a card and told her she would make a beautiful pinup. He shot her portfolio free of charge and suggested that she should have bangs to keep light from reflecting off her forehead. She became popular in ‘Camera Clubs’, taking risky photos, but this was only the beginning.
Starting in 1951 she began working as a model for Irving Klaw, starring in a mix of pinup and BDSM shoots. Here she also starred in special films for specific clients, making soft core pornography. One of these most famous videos was of Page tied up and being lashed by a mistress before spanked. She gained another title ‘Queen of Bondage’ at this time.
Then in 1953 she took acting classes at Herbert Berghof studios, hoping for a big break. Her wait was short. She starred in a handful of films, television shows, and off Broadway productions. Soon after she met photographer H.W. Hanau and Bunny Yawger.
This photo shoot at the Africa USA wildlife park in Florida her most iconic ‘Jungle Bettie’ photos were taken. This included nude shots with two cheetahs. This shots were sent to Playboy Magazine and earned Page the title Playmate of the Month January 1955. This recognition earned her more titles, Dark Angel, Miss Pinup Girl World, and Queen of Curves. But then in 1957 the train derailed, and she faded.
This sudden departure earned many rumors, such as a man dying during a bondage shoot. But Page claims she thought God did not approve of the nude images, and she devoted her life to him.
After her modeling days her life spiraled. In the early 1960s she tried to become a Christian Missionary, but was rejected due to being a divorced woman. She enrolled in college in hopes of achieving a masters degree, but dropped out. She then married and divorced again.
In 1978 her life finally caught up with her, she had a mental breakdown and was evaluated before diagnosed with schizophrenia.  She then spent just under two years in Patton State Hospital. After being released she got into an altercation with her landlord and was arrested for assault, but let go due to reasons of insanity. She was placed under state supervision and finally released in 1992.
In December of 2008 Page was hospitalized, for what reason was fuzzy. Some news organizations said it was a heart attack while others claimed it was pneumonia. On the 11th her family decided to take her on life support.
Page was a beautiful woman who touched many people's lives, but just as she tumbled into the spotlight she left it. Next time we’ll talk about the lawsuit that finally allowed her to collect royalties on her own image.

Stephen Glass: The Liar Journalist
Journalists role in society is to unbiased inform the people, with such intentions there’s no room for false information or buy outs. But what happens when a journalist abandons this goal and makes up his own stories? This is the tale of Stephen Glass.
Glass was an elite journalist for The New Republic, an American magazine that's been published since 1914. He was respected by his fellow employees and editors, forming a name for himself as the years progressed. But his name would soon be dragged through the mud.
In 1996 he published an article called Hazardous to Your Mental Health, soon after publication the Center for Science in the Public Interest(CSPI) sent the paper a letter. Glass had misconstrued information and portrayed the CSPI’s Director of Nutrition, Michael Jacobson, as being a food scold intent on taking the joy out of eating.
Then in 1997 he got himself into two more scandals. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E), accused Glass of falsehood in his article “Don’t You D.A.R.E”. Soon after he also offended the College Republican National Committee and Hofstra College. The editor at the time Michael Kelly defended Glass and demanded an apology from CSPI. But this was only the first few bullets, war was on the horizon. A war Glass could never win.
“Hack Heaven” was published on 18/05 1998, spinning the tail of a 15 year old who hacked into a company’s software only to be given a job by the same company right after. It was flashy and caught the public’s eye, but then Forbes wanted a follow up. Two names were credited in the article, Ian Restill the hacker, and Jukt Micronics, the company/owner. When anyone Googled Micronics they found a very basic website and single phone number. This was the end.
Glass tried to cover his ass, claiming he had been fooled by Restill, but he could get Micronics. Charles Lane the lead editor, was taken to meet Micronics, but fired Glass when he found out the man before him was no business man. Instead Glass’s college age brother.
Like any shitstorm there was a mess left behind for everyone else to clean. It was found that 27/41 articles written by Glass were made up, either people, places, or events completely plagiarized. He has ensured his name is ruined and will never be able to write for any publication again.
In Journalism school this was a cautionary tale, along with another that I may touch on later. For ya know, maybe don’t plagiarize.  There’s also a movie about this called Shattered Glass, 8/10 would recommend.

The Secret World of the Freemasons
Tumblr media
Conspiracies of ruling the world, sex cults, and immortality had plagued this group for years. But who are they? And do the theories hold true? I was curious and here are my findings, just know that some of this is probably just speculation. The internet can’t always be trusted.
The group themselves trace origins to the Stonemasons group from the fourteenth century. The Freemasons can be split into two separate groups:
Regular: reading scriptor, members believe in supreme being, women are lessor, any talk of religion or politics is not tolerated.
Continental: Less restrictions, to some or all of the above, depends on the congregation. Women have also been allowed in these since 1904.
Instead of a church they meet at something called a Lodge, each of these are run independent and generally are far out of the way of onlookers. These buildings are used like normal board meetings, people will vote on new members, elect, even organize charity events.
Above the lodge is the Grand/Masonic Lodge, a grander congregation of Freemasons. Lectures are generally performed here, and all meetings must adjourn with dinner. This is all fine and good, but how does one join a lodge?
To join one you will of had to meet the highest/most active members in the lodge. Rules about who/how can get in vary from place to place, but generally you will have to be friends with another member. Sometimes there are even social nights where non members can swing by and scope them out. But there’s also some guidelines you need to meet to become a member.
The most minimal is you need to be a good person, there is also generally an age restriction. Most of the time its just that they must be an older adult, guess even they don’t wanna deal with angsty twenty year olds. But you also need to believe in a supreme being, and sometimes you have to swear on it.
If you get past all that you will be initiated, in this ceremony you are expected to swear to fulfill a role as a Freemason and all the responsibilities that come with it. They must also keep their rank hidden from outsiders and pledge to always help fellow Freemasons.
This is where I’m going to stop for today but I do have some ideas. So most likely all the conspiracies popped up because it's a more hidden society, unlike a church you can’t just walk in. (I’m assuming that's how churches work.) And the human imagination likes to fill in gaps, we don’t like being left in the dark. I’m going to look more into this and maybe I’ll find something cool.

Wayfair Conspiracy
Wayfair, the online goods seller, has been found to have multiple products listing expensive cabinets (12000-16000), but that's not the suspicious part. Names such as Neriah, Yaritza, Samiyah and Alyvia are in the products tagline, and are the names of currently missing children. But what's going on?
Currently the theory is Wayfair is involved in Child Trafficking, and instead of buying expensive cabinets people are purchasing children. But there isn’t much evidence beyond the cabinets having the same name as said missing children. But even so, it’s definitely unnerving.
Wayfair recently responded saying: "There is, of course, no truth to these claims,” They said to Newsweek. “The products in question are industrial grade cabinets that are accurately priced. Recognizing that the photos and descriptions provided by the supplier did not adequately explain the high price point, we have temporarily removed the products from site to rename them and to provide a more in-depth description and photos that accurately depict the product to clarify the price point.” But that still doesn’t explain why the cabinets would have such a strange name.
Eli’s thoughts: There isn’t enough evidence for me to think one way or another, but this is definitely absurd. If there’s actually sex trafficking going on through Wayfair, its horrible. And if there isn’t why would someone include names in an items title? If one brand happened to align with a name then I could see it just being gobbledygook, but multiple? I’m really hoping this id just a cruel joke.

Fake Kidnapping: A Toronto Crime
In September 2019 a harrowing video was sent to a Chinese couple. Their son bound to a chair and gagged, along with a message that he had been abducted and they needed to send a 1 million dollars to keep him alive.  The 16 year old had recently moved to Canada from China as an international student, and his parents' fear led them to contact the Canadian police.
When police were alerted and showed the video they were distributed to the students home for a welfare check. The check turned up nothing. Thankfully within the hour the student was located at a local McDonalds, alive, well, and not a kidnap victim. He was then arrested for mischief.
This is not an isolated case, just a few months earlier another fake kidnapping had been staged in Kingston Ontario. Plus there was the Fairlie Arrow case back in 1991. It's hard to say what causes these, wanting fame, needing money, regardless it's strange.

Just urg...
I’m taking care of my friends kids and every day after lunch we go for a walk by the waterfront. We stay ten feet away from everyone and keep our hands to ourselves.
Yesterday was a similar day, only when we got to the water front there was a herd of teenage girls. They were intruding everyone's social distance space, bumping into each other, and just generally causing a ruckus as they took selfies. This earned many disapproving looks from the people around them, who were also trying to keep social distance.
Can we all please try not to be these people? We’re on time out and people like these are just making it longer. People are dying because others refuse to keep space and not interact with others.
Please remember to stay at least six feet away from others and not to gather in large groups. Peoples lives and the length of quarantine depend on it.

Lori Vallow: The Children were Zombies?
Recently Brandon Boudraux filed documents which contain more information about Vallow’s missing children. These documents were used in the custody battle against Melani Boudraux (Vallow’s niece).
The documents were obtained by ABC and outline discussions about the missing children, and the attempt on Brandon’s life in October 2019. Apparently these accounts are from Ian Powloski, Melani’s current husband.
According to the document Melani claimed her ex husband was possessed by a demon, and that something would need to happen to him in order for his soul to reach God. But that’s not all.
Ian claimed that Melani was told by Vallow/Daybell that the children had been possessed and turned into zombies. And that her children might need to die as well, and that Alex Cox would do it. Further explaining that Cox was very attached to the Lord and would do anything to make sure his plan was successful. But what does this all mean?
I have two theories, but we’re going to start with the cult one. Vallow’s belief in God and that she will play a part in the end of days caused a mental break. She saw ‘signs’ where there were none, including that her niece's husband and own children were possessed by evil. This led to Vallow and Daybell murdering the children and then getting rid of the remains to continue their work with God.
Secondly, Brandon and Ian could be working together to get the children away from Melani. Both Brandon and Ian could believe Melani is an unfit mother and in an attempt to get the children away from her make up stories to make her look just as insane as Vallow. This theory does not hold as much water because we know so little about these side characters. But if my ex-partner showed any signs of wanting to murder my children, I would stop at nothing to get them away from her.
All these thoughts and theories aside we still don’t know where the children are, or if they are even alive. Vallow’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7th and 8th, we can only hope that new information will lead to police finding whatever remains of the children.

New Coronavirus Scam
People never cease to disappoint me. There’s a new scam in which someone calls you claiming to be a nurse and that your results came back and have the virus. They ask for your credit card number so they can ‘send your antibiotics overnight’.
Please be wary and make sure you’re speaking to an actual health professional, and never give your credit card number over the phone. Crisis shows peoples true colours, and for many this means they’re trying to scam the weakest members of society. Stay safe.

Coronavirus: Some Facts and Why You’re Not Going to Die
Social media has led many to believe the end is near, and the propaganda isn’t helping. Everyone I’ve spoken to is losing their last marbles, but has not done much research beyond the ‘OMG I’M GOING TO DIE!’. So let's go over a few facts.
Currently there are 93 cases in Canada, with the most cases (39) in British Columbia. 79% of infected are over the age of 40, and 13% have been hospitalized. Only one person has died so far of COVID-19. That's fine and dandy, but what about risk rates?
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) said the public health risk of COVID-19 is low. Those most at risk are people over 65, those with compromised immune systems, and those with underlying medical conditions. PHAC is also fully prepared for a full outbreak across Canada, there’s even a vaccine in development.
Currently we’re being told to wash our hands thoroughly, and wash common surfaces. And obviously don’t travel or go on a cruise ship, as you have no idea who the people are around you and both could serve as a breeding ground.
But Eli, China’s outbreak has turned deadly! What if that happens to us?! China’s health system leaves a lot to be desired, hospitals are too small to accommodate and understaffed. COVID-19 actually got out of control because initially patients were diagnosed as having viral pneumonia, and therefore did not receive the correct care. Funny how when something goes untreated it gets worse.
Jokes aside please do some research before jumping to conclusions. I’ve heard everything from CONVID-19 being a government issued plague to the Resident Evil Remake being a sign this was coming. As fun as RE is I don’t think Leon’s coming to save us. So please keep a level head and don’t fall down a rabbit hole of propaganda.

Lori Vallow In Court
Yesterday Vallow’s bail was reduced to one million, the judge claimed it was set too high due to media attention. During the proceedings she seemed more preoccupied with having herself addressed as Lori Daybell, and spoke little during the hearing.
Back to her bail, if she can meet it she will be forced to wear a GPS tracking system to ensure she does not flee like in November. She will need to remain inside strict limits and routinely contact her attorney. Said attorney set a preliminary hearing for March 18th. The trial will definitely be a sticky one due to how rare child desertion cases are in Idaho.
Unfortunately there has still been no update on where her children are. With no new leads we can only expect the worst and hope for the best outcome.  Hopefully during her trial more information will come out and this mystery will finally be solved.

Chad Daybell: The Kids Are Safe?!
Lori Vallow’s husband has decided to speak out about her missing children. Instead according to his Hawaii neighbours he said that the children are safe, though he refuses to disclose where they are.
Vallow on the other hand is still being held, and the judge refuses to reduce her 5$ million bail. She has also waived her right to an astraction hearing. This means she will be taken back to Idaho no matter what.
NOW ITS OPINION TIME! At this point I think Daybell is lying, he’s feeling pressure from law enforcement and the media, so he’s saying whatever ‘sounds right’. An admission the children are fine is nothing more than a ploy at emotions ‘They’re fine so we have nothing to worry about’. Unfortunately (for them), this statement came far too late. People are already focusing on them and assuming they’re guilty, so everything they do will just solidify their guilt in the public mind.
But what about the children? At this point I think the chance of them being alive is slim to none. If another family member was hiding them they would have come out by now, not wanting Vallow to face criminal charges. But they’re still missing. At this point we can only hope their bodies will be found.

Lori Vallow: The Plot Thickens
Recently Vallow’s niece Melani Boudreaux Pawlowski has been accused of knowing where Vallow’s missing children are. This comes from her ex husband Brandon Bouderaux saying in court documents she knew where the children are. Bouderaux made this statement while him and his wife were in court fighting over the custody of their own four children.
He revealed this due to fear of his ex wife, saying she is involved in the same Doomsday cult as Vallow. Though he refuses to help with the investigation into Vallow’s children, aside from just saying his ex wife knows.
Pawlowski on the other hand has been interviewed three times and denies any connection to Vallow’s children. She also explained she is in no cult, but instead belongs to the Church of Latterday Saints.
Pawlowski’s attorney’s claim Bouderaux just did this to gain custody, and since has fled with said children and missed court hearings.  Family believes they are in Utah, but no one can say for sure.
So it's the part of the post where I say my opinions. But there really isn’t much to go on. This could just be a scorn man trying to screw over his ex wife, trying to make her seem unstable so he can get custody. Or Pawlowski could be a cult member trying to keep her sister's secret buried.
While both her and Vallow are part of the same church it's hard to say if it's a cult. Any religion could become a cult if taken too literally. There will need to be more information revealed before I can pick a side.

Lori Vallow: Update
Last week Vallow was finally charged with two felony counts of desertion and non-support of a child among others. Further, Vallow decided not to fight her removal from Hawaii due to her wanting to defend herself against ‘false accusations’. But what about her children?
Recordings from a doorbell camera revealed her son playing in Rexburg in September of 2019. In the video he is seen playing in the complex’s yard and then runs across the yard to the townhouse previously rented by his mother. Kay Vallow (children’s grandmother) confirmed the child was her grandson. Though Rexburg police refuse to confirm the video. The last official sighting of him was September 23rd 2019 at his school. There has not been an update on her daughter.
Idaho law enforcement will send people to transport Vallow on March 4th, and she is currently being held on a 5$ million bail.
