Ranpo stepped into the Agency a few days later, ready to be visited by your great smile and a big hug from you ! He always loved it when you'd give him attention, it was a different kind of attention compared to the other agency members.. similar to that same respect that he had with Fukuzawa.

"(Y/NN) !" He called out to you, noticing how you were at your desk, not jumping to greet to him, like you often did. He didn't suspect anything at first.

You turned to him with a straight look, no smile at all... "Yes?"

"wellllll?" He dragged along, holding his hand out. You were silent for a moment before pulling a small lollipop from your pocket and placing it in his hands. "That's it??" He questioned, disappointed. You often brought him big and new things from different stores and bakeries. Besides, didn't you promise him a surprise a few days ago??

"I don't have anything else on me," you spoke before turning your attention back to your computer, typing away and choosing to end the conversation there.

Ranpo stared at you for a moment, quiet.

He didn't want to question it, so he chose to ignore it and sit down at his desk. 'Maybe you're just feeling down. Or having a mood swing.' he thought to himself while he put his legs up on his desk and leaned back, staring at the ceiling.

It wouldn't take long for Ranpo to notice a pattern after just a few days. You seemed to be ignoring him more and more. You gave your attention to the work and other members instead of him.

What, him jealous? No..

Why would he be jealous? He's the world's greatest detective ! The thought of love just didn't sit right with him. He was too busy helping dumb little cops with their cases to get into that business ! ...right?

That night, he stared up at his ceiling, not seeming to fall asleep as he thought about your pretty face or how you'd smile at him... Or the way you'd pamper him with more attention then he could ever get compared to all the other agency members combined.

What felt like forever, only a few weeks, since he's actually hung out with you, he's decided to confront you about this! Obviously there's something upsetting you that he's not knowing about? It's that easy to see!

"(Y/N)." His voice had called out to you as you were ready to enter the Agency building. You turned to see him standing with a frustrated and upset, yet saddened, look on his poor face.

"yes-?"

"why are you ignoring me." He cut you off, not wanting to wait any longer to know the truth.

You were quiet to say the least, but not surprised. ".. whatever do you mean?"

"don't act stupid, (Y/N). I can easily pull out my glasses and use my ultra deduction if I wanted to." He paused with a sigh as he looked up. He had noticed a small leaf fall from the sky, the wind carrying it as it fell on top of your head. He couldn't help but smile a little, but he was still serious about getting an answer. "But I want to hear the reason from you."

"... You tell me, Edogawa." He was a little shocked by you calling him by his surname. That was.. a different approach. Slowly he pulled his glasses out and pushed it up the bridge of his nose, staring at you quietly.

"... y'know, you could've told me all that time, yeah.. I was bound to.. deduce it eventually.."

"..I know." You lied.

"..so why didn't you?"

You were quiet for a moment before pulling that leaf, that fell on your head, out of your hair and holding it in between your fingers. Ranpo didn't like the friction in the air, it oddly felt intense to him. Maybe it was just the awkwardness between you too... But he didn't understand why it had to be like this. "...I don't know."

"no, you do know."

"..I guess," you paused and sighed, letting the leaf fall to the ground. "So what now?"

"..is it too late to say I love you..?" He spoke under his breath, the smallest tint of blush on his pretty face.

"..yeah."

"..you've lost those feelings, huh?" You nodded your head while awkwardly smiling at the ground, your hands were held tightly together. "..sorry. I was an idiot."

Heizou is very straightforward with his feelings

Like he'll like fall in love with you after he's known you for so long. He wants to know you!

And the moment he realizes these sudden feelings... It takes him awhile to process it, maybe a few weeks.

During those few weeks he makes it very obvious by his 'sudden' gestures.

Like he's suddenly helping you carry your things, wants to walk you back to your home, asks to get coffee literally everyday, wondering how you are and asking every 5 minutes...

...but specifically, it's his flirting. It got x10 crazier.

After he's calmed down after those weeks... He'll definitely be straightforward with you, praying that you'll reciprocate those feelings.

If you called Heizou out for being jealous he'd take it as a funny joke.

"Me? jealous? Man alive! You must take me for a fool! my dear, I know you would never want to leave meee"

And this was true.

He was not the jealous type because he knew you very well. He put lots of trust into you.

Althoughhhhh... If he was to become jealous, it would be difficult to notice. He'd act the same as always, but instead he'd be more touchy with you in front of the person.

He'd hug you tightly and smother you in kisses, not caring at the moment if you're embarrassed, or he'd put his hands around your hips while sending a unnoticeable glare at the other.

K - Kisses

Heizou's kisses hold so much warmth and love. Every kiss he's given feels like you're re-falling in love with him again.

His favorite areas to kiss you are the unlikely areas. He wants to catch you off guard and surprise you! So he'll choose a different area everytime. He'll kiss your ear one day, then kiss the top of your hand another day. He'll do the strangest things like put your shoes on for you before kissing your knee while giving a wink.

He's likely sensitive around his neck. If you start to kiss his neck, he'll definitely melt under your touch.

L - Little Ones

(How are they around children?)

Heizou knows how to handle them, he just isn't around many actually.

Like the only times he'd hang out with children is if he was invited by a bunch to play soccer in the neighborhood or something like that.

He's definitely the type of adult to want to make children laugh, always crack up a joke, but he will give them a one-on-one talk if they're doing something wrong.

A kid throw a football at it broke a car window? Help them out and have them apologize to the owner of the car.

Children probably think he's really cool!

If you have younger siblings then he wants to make sure he gets along with them to earn your respect but also for the fun of it.

It doesn't matter what the stakes are. They like basketball? He does too, and now he's suddenly got two tickets for the himself and them. They like having tea parties? Heizou would look good in a dress and definitely likes tea now. They like bed time stories before bed? He does too and he'll definitely read them to them!

M - Mornings

(what are they like in bed?)

He's different every day. Sometimes he's waking up early in the morning and make you guys breakfast, other times he doesn't want to get out of bed and just wants to cuddle you forever!

If he's getting up early, expect him to be trying to wake you up as well. If it doesn't work and he needs to be somewhere then he'll leave you a cute sticky note on your phone.

"hey love! Sorry, I had to run a errand :( I was trying to wake you up but seems you care about your sleep more than me >:( anyways, I'll see you when I get back! Text me when you're awake <3 love you!!"

If he doesn't need to go anywhere, he's carrying you over to the couch. Why? Because he wants to watch some cartoons or the news or anything while cuddling you >:(

It doesn't matter how he's getting you to the couch, whether its literally carrying you or waking you up just so you can go back to sleep later. He wants cuddles!!!

N - nights

Don't try and yank him off because he'll just tighten his grip around you more

If you manage to slither out of his grasp to go grab a drink or go to the restroom he'll wake up immediately. Yeah... Sorry to tell you but he's going to start sulking and whining.

"(Y/N)?" ... "(Y/N)!!! HOW COULD YOU LEAVE ME..!"

Which he's just being dramatic to make you feel bad and get you back in bed. Does it work? I'll leave that up to debate.

Oddly, his body is very warm but his feet are cold. It almost disgusts you whenever he wraps his legs around yours.

If he's too busy and he's trying to finish up something, makesure to let him know that's he's been up to long or he'll forget about the time and when he does try to go to bed... It will be like 5:32 AM by then.

O - Open

(When would they start revealing thing about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

Depends. If you guys were LONG term friends before you dated then you likely already know a lot about him

He trusts you. He knows you're of good heart (even if you were the type to act like you don't care sometimes)

But when you started to date, you learned some things you never expected to find out about him after the first few months or dates

He is open about anything with you

He wants there to be trust and balance between one another

P - Patience

(How easily angered are they?)

The real question is... How patient are YOU?

This man has unbelievable patience. Like of course he can get annoyed with people when they're being unreasonable but he does the logical thing and tries to either calm down or just ignore it

But with you?

It's actually HIM annoying YOU. Whether it's him being way to affectionate in public where you literally have to start running off before people start assuming weird things about you or it's him getting under your skin with little things so he can see you pout or get ready to punch him

Either way, he has a LOT of patience with you. You guys can annoy one another easily but he doesn't hold any grudges

Of course, don't start doing stupid and unreasonable shit like smashing his car window because he took the last piece of pie or something

His memory is very... Strange.

He'll remember every little thing about you. You saw a charm in a store that caught your eye specifically but didn't get? Don't worry he's got it right before you left the store. Somehow not noticing.

But somehow he has to be reminded your birthday sometimes

He loves how you opened you to him so differently compared to others

Even if you open up to people easily

The sparkle in your eyes, the small smile tugging at the corner of your lips, the way he'd catch you staring...

Every little secret you'd tell him, putting some trust into him...

He felt like he earned that respect and he was proud of it

If it hasn't been obvious enough, he puts all his trust into... Praying you won't break his heart, but he knows you wouldn't do that to him!

Of course, whenever you guys out to places like the bar or a concert, he's got his hand in your back pocket or around your waist... Holding you close as you guys walk through big crowds.

Now, he isn't the jealous type BUT if he HAD to step into something, he's definitely got a way with his words. He'll get you out of there right away, dragging you away.

He'll pour all his love and money into anything for you (of course, the money part is in reasonable price.)

He's so hard working to make sure you're doing well. Making sure you're happy and healthy, always helping you with your chores or job, giving some of his own advice

Although Heizou does love to cuddle with you during the night... There are many nights where he just can't make it to bed when you want him to be there

He'll be stuck at his desk completing his work (whether it's a literal professional job or college work)

He wants to get his work and responsibilities done, but he also doesn't want to leave you hanging alone in bed

He tries to get it done quickly but this stresses him out

He's no proud of it

But he always makes sure to get under the blanket and wrap his arms around your warm body sooner or later

Whether that takes him only a few minutes to hours or not even at all in the night and going to bed in the day.

He's pretty confident in his looks

Actually, he thinks he's very handsome and pretty for a guy!

He usually teases you, joking that he is prettier one in the relationship.... It's likely true in both of yours eyes.

Was it wrong of you to say that some part of you was hurting? Actually no, everyone hurts... don't be selfish is what you think to yourself while you continue to walk through city of Yokohama, on your way to the Agency.

It was only a matter of time before Ranpo, your dear best friend you cared so much for, was to find out. Actually, he probably somehow knew right now... Standing and waiting in the Agency for you to walk through that door and to confront you.

It's been on your mind for so long... No, to long. You want to quit the Agency. It was a difficult situation for you right now but the simple answer was your were tired. You were more than just tired in the morning, but mentally tired of everything.

You've been in the Agency for so long, maybe even too long. You were tired of everything surrounding your life... The amount of people that get hurt, the cases and deaths you have endure and witness, the tears of the people affected, the screams of people who can't accept reality... Did you hate your job?

Just like every other day, put on a smile and just do what you must.... This neverending nightmare has got to end one day.

At least... That's what you want to tell yourself.

"(____)!" There it was... Ranpo Edogawa. He called your name as soon as you walked inside that door. You turned to see him marching over to you. "Soooooo, did you get me any snacks before you left your house? Y'know I can't function without eating." He whined a little.

You smiled, you seem to do that a lot, and pull a Pocky box out of your pocket. He grinned while snatching it from you. "thank you!!"

You sit down at your desk and you're ready to start the day like any other. You open your computer up--

Ranpo stood beside your desk with one hand on his hip and the other flat on your computer to keep it close. "Is it true?"

"... I want to quit the Agency and I think that if I do, it will be for a good reason. I think that if I quit the Agency I can be.. normal-"

"(____)...stop. just stop for a minute. You do this everytime, everyday to everyone."

"that." He pointed up at your face. "you always try to act happy with what you're given, you never push yourself and allow yourself to do what you want, you always smile even when people know you're upset. It's tiresome..."

"(____)." He pulled you right out of those thoughts again, like he knew just what you were thinking. "... What is 'normal' to you."

Silence was your answer.

"How come, the person that has been working at this Agency longer than most, one of the first people to be apart of this place, the person who makes everyone happy and can make even a baby smile, not have the voice or courage to answer for themselves."

He was pulling strings. Ranpo always knew how to get what he wants, whether it was childish or serious. "...I love being a detective. I love my colleagues..."

"but you love us enough to leave us?"

"...I don't want to live the rest of my life as a detective forever. Solving cases and saving lives is amazing but... We are still people. We never really get the chance to live like anyone else."

"...you say it like being a detective is something that you have to get rid of. There's more to life than living like other people and staying home married, taking care of a house and worrying about yourself."

This conversation isn't going any where. Sorry.

How did he know about it though?

Yes, he was the Greatest Detective Ever for a reason, but how does he manage to get these answers everytime. It's not like the President would've told anyone about your conversation between you two. So how does he know?

How does he know that I want to live normal, like other people.... Get married and have children? At least.. that's what any normal person would say the meaning of life is.

"..but there is also more to life than just sitting in a chair all day solving problems and cases that will never stop."

You spoke up. You rarely ever do that. Good job. Is what you're hoping to hear. Pitiful.

Ranpo's expression turned from a look of seriousness, frustration of understanding and a little hurt to... Dumbfounded. "...do you seriously think this is what you want? Just leaving us behind to get married and nothing else at the end of the day... Just that?"

It aches but it's for the best

"Ranpo. I feel as if I've, supported you practically all my life for your... Ability and having such a great title of Greatest Detective Ever... And yet it feels like you can't show me a little support for my decision."

It was a stab through the heart. Those words exactly weren't what you wanted to say, they just came out of you. He seemed shocked by the change of tone from you. Who were? Just yesterday you were the friend, the colleague, the person, that made everyone smile just by walking through the door. The person that laughed at even the dumbest of jokes. The person that anyone was basically able to talk to. Now, you're just... A figure who feels and looks so lost and confused. How did it get to here?

"(____). I've supported you and I do want you to be happy but I also want you to be realistic. I'll support you... I'll always support you because you're my best friend.... But I can't support this."

"...so my idea of moving on and getting married happily, finding a new job, starting a new chapter of my life, most likely having children, to feed and care and love for my future offspring, is unrealistic?"

"it is unrealistic! Getting married isnt all sunshine and rainbows like you imagine it, you know that."

"So I can't even try to find the slightest chance of happiness..?" You paused to think. "...what is that you always say to me when I feel like I've given up? Just keep trying and you'll find a chance? Is that not the same as now?"

Ranpo felt himself giving up. That's rare. Seems like you've pushed both you and him over the limit. "...you're kidding right..?" He paused to look down at the floor with a heavy sigh. "... You have a place in this Agency. We all need you. You're a vital member here. And I don't just say that because you're my best friend... We don't need you to be someone else. We care about you. And I don't want to just say bye one day because you decide to marry some.. person."

"...even if that person I marry makes me the happiest I've ever been in the world? Wouldn't it all be worth something in the end?"

He sighed... What else was he supposed to say? Just giving you the slightest advice wouldn't change your mind and telling you not to do this obviously hasn't worked. Was he really at fault for not believing in this future for you?

"...Do what makes you happy, alright?"

"...even if it means I have to say goodbye now?"

You smile, but you still ache deep down inside... It's going to hurt for next few days or weeks, you know it will.. but that's alright. You stand up to leave. But stop at the doorway.

"I love you, Edogawa Ranpo." You turn to him with a kind and empathetic smile with teary eyes. "...and as cliché as it sounds... I want to be with you. But I need to know... What is it you truly see in me."

You smiled. You knew Ranpo, he was too focused on his life as a detective to allow something like romance get in the way. He was just like that. And you still loved him for that.

"...I was actually hoping you'd say that..." You paused to wipe a tear away. "... I really was hoping you weren't planning to lie and tell me just what I wanted to hear for my sake."

He stayed silent. At the end of day, he was happy to have that response but sad of the path that was going to happen next. You smiled and turned to leave. "...can't wait to see you again.. friend."

He had no words to say. You're gone. Just like that. His expression seemed, unbothered... But his heart felt broken to lose someone important to him. But of course they were best friends so it's not bad.

Although... He didn't want to believe it but... His deduction was telling him that he'd never see you again. But he's just going to have accept it.
