What do we want to have happen next in America’s lives? In America’s minds? What will our touchstones of memory be; how shall we find and keep them safe? What stories do we need to tell? What voices to hear? What lives to live? How shall we understand the configuring themes that have brought us into our third century of memory and culture, and have given us our diverse American selves over time? Of these themes, how shall we encourage our communities to speak, how shall we give words to their speechless flow?

The reality is that many, many museums are going to be impacted financially for a long time. Some will take years to recover, some will go under and others might have to contract or adjust to very different kinds of programs for the coming years. Museums with small endowments or ones that are very vulnerable to the gate will be devastated
