yalll i saw a tweet about how some of guys don't know that epel is meant to be sámi, not a southern american??? babes... he's very sámi. just as the original tweet said, not everything his "gringo-centric"
Tumblr media
i suggest really looking into the sámi people and the oppression they face by their governments!! the 1960s saw a wave of forced assimilation in norway. culture and language is constantly under threat, with children having not been allowed to speak their native languages in educational settings. this oppression goes all the way back to the 15th/16th century, and it is not unique to norway. there have been campaigns to eradicate their customs, language and religious practices for centuries.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like, y'all, there's heavy inspiration, especially in the collars!! these intricate designs and the jewelry... my goodness this is so pretty???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
correct me if im wrong, but the term gákti is used to describe these garments. there have been controversies over finnish people dressing up in fake gákti and performing "traditional rituals" for tourists. this is extremely similar to various other cultures. the act of exoticizing and orientalizing the sámi people and their culture serves no purpose but to fill the pockets of non-sámi capitalists who oppress them.
Tumblr media
on that note, when writing epel fics please stop with the southern american shenanigans, especially when the culture he is implied to be from has actively been eradicated for centuries.

Tumblr media
I feel that people in recent times have ruined an entire generation. There are literally sick people who are writing as if they were sick with the topic of incest and all its derivatives, as if it were a damn new game that came out on the market.
If I'm honest, I'm afraid that these people have a little brother or sister because of the content they consume. Because if these people have siblings, imagine if they rape their younger sister or brother or abuse them. Let me ask you something, and I want you to be honest with me: if that is their fetish, do you think they wouldn't do it if they didn't have the opportunity? Do you really think that readers and writers only read and write for pleasure or because they know they can't take advantage of someone because they know there are consequences for their actions, and they decide to bring out all those types of fantasies in "fictional characters"?
As the younger sister of two brothers, it doesn't fit into my head to read something like that, because I know what it's like to have siblings, take care of them, and love them. I can't put myself in those people's shoes because I don't understand them; I don't understand their sick fetishes or how they enjoy them.
I just wanted to get everything off my chest because I couldn't take it anymore with everything that's going around on Tumblr. It feels like you're on a page full of pedophiles and incestuous people. Seriously, it's disgusting. And even though you haven't read any of that content, it's disgusting, and no, you can't forget it because you know it's going around on the internet- and you saw it, you know it's there, and you can't do anything about it or even forget it.
You may think I'm exaggerating but in the part of the world where I live there are homicides and abuses against women. You literally see every day on the damn news how a woman or girl was abused or disappeared... Do you know what I saw the other day? a case in which a three-year-old girl was abused by her older brother and cousin.
and then you start thinking about the sick people who genuinely enjoy that damn content. maybe if those people lived the same fear that I and the other women in my country suffer when we go out on the street or meet strangers, they would come to their senses.
That's all; maybe I'll delete it later.

when rest and "lazy days" stop being optional, you eventually stop enjoying it. i don't even know how to relax anymore. there's barely any relaxation in rest for me, it's all forced by a sick body.

one aspect of disability that people don't often talk about is grief. grief plays a massive part in my life.
before becoming disabled, i had so many dreams that i know now aren't feasible. i would have loved to go to uni and pursue a degree in psychology and go on to become a therapist, but i know i wouldn't be able to go to uni now.
i'm grieving the could-have-beens and what my body used to be like.
i used to like running short distance and i loved dungeons & dragons. now, i wouldn't be able to be present long enough to actually play a campaign, and the last time i raced my mate down the road, i ended up in bed for the week in a flare up. (i'm an idiot i know)
grief is such a big part of being disabled that people don't talk about enough.
i'm proud of my disabled identity. i never fully recovered from an illness and gained multiple chronic illnesses/lifelong disabilities from it, so damn right i'm going to embrace the changes, but i will always think about the what-ifs.
my disability is a part of me as a person and my identity but that doesn't mean that i still don't grieve for who i was or could have been.
i am not less worthy because i am disabled and i can still grieve and be proud of my disabled identity simultaneously.
thanks for listening to my TEDtalk now i'm probably going to take a nap because writing all that really hurt my arms and i'm tired.

I think a big reason why "children are an oppressed group" gets (wrongly!) read as a "pedophile talking point" is that everyone treats children so terribly that actual child molesters can speedrun winning a kid's trust by like, actually respecting their needs and perspective, at least at first. Which means that the only way out of this mess is for all of us adults to treat children with respect, so that abusers can't use the rareness of that respect as a weapon.

I think some of us ambulatory wheelchair users are getting pretty close to (or already are) throwing full time users and higher support needs disableds under the bus. And that shit needs to be shut down NOW.
It's the problem of: "how dare they treat us like those people!"
The problem with ableists isn't that they assume we can't walk The problem is they assume we don't need our wheelchairs if we can. That we don't need our handicapped placards or transport vehicles. That we are taking advantage of other "actually" disabled people, that the ableists also don't give a shit about unless they're using them as an excuse to be ableist.
The problem with ableists isn't that they assume we are intellectually and/or developmentally disabled. The problem is they assume that every intellectually/developmentally disabled person needs to be treated with baby talk, dismissal, and ignorance. That they don't see them as people and refuse to listen to intellectually and developmentally disabled voices without making fun of them.
Stop throwing people with higher support needs under the bus. Stop doing what the abled neurodivergent community did to all physically disabled people. Us cripples gotta stick together and fight for one another, not push one down to make ourselves somehow look better to ableist fucks.

I found an extremely dope disability survival guide for those who are homebound, bedbound, in need of disability accommodations, or would otherwise like resources for how to manage your life as a disabled person. (Link is safe)
It has some great articles and resources and while written by people with ME/CFS, it keeps all disabilities in mind. A lot of it is specific to the USA but even if you're from somewhere else, there are many guides that can still help you. Some really good ones are:
How to live a great disabled life- A guide full of resources to make your life easier and probably the best place to start (including links to some of the below resources). Everything from applying for good quality affordable housing to getting free transportation, affordable medication, how to get enough food stamps, how to get a free phone that doesn't suck, how to find housemates and caregivers, how to be homebound, support groups and Facebook pages (including for specific illnesses), how to help with social change from home, and so many more.
Turning a "no" into a "yes"- A guide on what to say when denied for disability aid/accommodations of many types, particularly over the phone. "Never take no for an answer over the phone. If you have not been turned down in writing, you have not been turned down. Period."
How to be poor in America- A very expansive and helpful guide including things from a directory to find your nearest food bank to resources for getting free home modifications, how to get cheap or free eye and dental care, extremely cheap internet, and financial assistance with vet bills
How to be homebound- This is pretty helpful even if you're not homebound. It includes guides on how to save spoons, getting free and low cost transportation, disability resources in your area, home meals, how to have fun/keep busy while in bed, and a severe bedbound activity master list which includes a link to an audio version of the list on Soundcloud
Master List of Disability Accommodation Letters For Housing- Guides on how to request accommodations and housing as well as your rights, laws, and prewritten sample letters to help you get whatever you need. Includes information on how to request additional bedrooms, stop evictions, request meetings via phone, mail, and email if you can't in person, what you can do if a request is denied, and many other helpful guides
Special Laws to Help Domestic Violence Survivors (Vouchers & Low Income Housing)- Protections, laws, and housing rights for survivors of DV (any gender), and how to get support and protection under the VAWA laws to help you and/or loved ones receive housing and assistance
Dealing With Debt & Disability- Information to assist with debt including student loans, medical debt, how to deal with debt collectors as well as an article with a step by step guide that helped the author cut her overwhelming medical bills by 80%!
There are so many more articles, guides, and tools here that have helped a lot of people. And there are a lot of rights, resources, and protections that people don't know they have and guides that can help you manage your life as a disabled person regardless of income, energy levels, and other factors.
Please boost!

When a chronically ill or disabled person gets their lab tests back as “normal” or all clear, we aren’t sad because we WANT to be sick.
We’re sad because we *know* there’s something wrong with us, yet the scans still stay clear.
Before you kill the monster you gotta know its name.

why are roleplay servers on discord so dogshit now? Its like every time I look at them they’re 1) mainly for porn 2) creepy middle aged men and women claiming a fictional 17 year old is their “husband/wife” 3) they expect you to be active 24/7 as if you dont have a life outside of roleplaying, 4) nitpicks the fuck out of your ocs literally just searching for problems.
