Snapchat is getting ready with its “family engagement” tools!

Yes, following this move, Snapchat., too, is soon to launch its own set of “family engagement” tools in the coming months. Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap Inc., had explained in this week’s meeting that the new safety tools act as a family center, providing parents with privacy management and a better understanding of how their teenage kids are using the Snapchat service.
In the WSJ event, Spiegel has further pointed out that a user profile on Snapchat is by default private. And this already private feature emphasizes the private nature of this multimedia instant messaging app that is super popular among people for communication with friends. Spiegel has said that the entire way they build the Snapchat service promotes a safe experience for all. The snap spokesperson has further added, “When we build new products or features, we try to do it in a way that reflects natural human behaviors and relationships — and the parental tools we are developing are meant to give parents better insights to help protect their kids, in ways that don’t compromise their privacy or data security, are legally compliant and offered at no charge to families within Snapchat.”
The company has also said that it will share more details about the new family safety tools pretty soon. Presently, all that has been known about Snap’s moves towards ensuring teen safety is that the parental controls will be under the purview of Jacqueline Beauchere, the company’s new global head of Platform Safety.

The CVSS score, 7.7, indicates the possibility of SQL injection. This possibility, however, exists under specific conditions, such as the attacker logging in as a "normal" user. And to do this, “Classic Editor” the WP installation plugin must be installed.
By exploiting the SQL Injection bug, attackers could exploit or misuse sensitive data like the user name in combination with the password hashes. Yes, the privileged information from the database of the affected website can be accessed by attackers when all these prerequisites are met.
Without such restrictions, there is also an attack possibility rating of 9.6. But for such “Critical” attacks to occur, user interaction with the WordPress site is necessary. Then there is also the possibility of the cross-site request forgery attack. In this attack, it is possible to conduct any actions with the rights of the person/administrator responsible for the attack.

Adobe Lightroom To Introduce New AI-Enabled Features

Adobe recently announced that it would add specific features to its photo editing software- Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. The changes will apply from late October. According to Adobe, these features will be AI-enabled.
It will allow people to select subjects like animals, people, buildings, etc., with a single click to edit them. Adobe further claims that these new features will be a revolutionary change in the history of the photo editing apps after Lightroom 2. Users will have more control over enhancing photos selectively.
How Will These Change The Editing Experience?
They have developed mask groups that would help merge various mask tools to improve the efficiency of the AI feature. Adobe also added a new masking panel to track all the masks and keep the workspace organized. You can store the masking panel anywhere, put it in the edit panel, or minimized displaying a preview of the mask.
You can access these tools both on desktops and mobile devices. The technique of adjusting specific areas of a photo is not new. It has been around for a while, perhaps, as old as photography is.
The previous versions of Photoshop incorporated tools like dodge and burn, masking, selections, layers, layer masks, etc. It allowed photographers to adjust their photos and creations in the digital darkroom.
Lightroom 2 was launched in 2008. It completely transformed the editing experience with its new features. Instead of destroying the picture, it helped in accentuating it.
Adobe also said that they have been testing and working on the new features for over a year. The company is also in the process of releasing more AI features. Reportedly, the Research and Design Research departments of the company are planning more surprises for the users.
Adobe also said that they have been working on improving the AI-enabled selection features in Photoshop. However, Lightroom did not support the image processing engine with those features.
To provide users with a similar experience, Adobe decided to implement significant changes to the core image processing engine. The Adobe team went back to the drawing board and re-imagined how to incorporate the AI-enabled tools into the masking engine for both desktops and mobiles.
Previously, only vector-based selections were supported. That means adjusting anything in the photo was a mathematical expression. The approach helped to avoid large files and catalogs. It also slowed down the synchronization process as small amounts of data could represent complicated masking on high-resolution images.
However, AI-powered masking needs image-based support or bitmap. Essentially, the new AI-powered masks build a grayscale photo where lighter values show different levels of selection. Pure black indicates nothing has been selected in that area.
It was the mission of the ACR team to make both bitmap-based and vector-based masks live together. They made sure that the gradient, the range masks, and the brush remains vector-based while the new AI tools are bitmap-based.
Adobe also made some tweaks to range masks including its capability to target an entire image. You can use range masks universally or used within a gradient. It also gives you more control over the luminance range’s falloff.
You can also name all masks to make it convenient for you to track them. Moreover, there are many ways to preview masks. The credit goes to the overlay visualizations that the team picked up from Photoshop’s default color overlay, images on black background, color overlay on black and white, images on white background, etc.

Where To Find And How To Use?
Now where these new features will appear on Spotify or how can one use them? Well, after being published, the Q&A and the podcast feature will appear at the bottom of that episode’s page on the app. All a listener has to do is follow the prompt, and they can participate in the poll or respond to the Q&A in the app.
Once listeners respond to a poll, they will be able to immediately see how the other podcast audience has responded or voted at the poll. They can also see how their own reactions stacked up. While for polls, every respondent can see how other respondents have voted, that is not the case with Q&As. In the case of Q&As, all responses will be delivered to the podcasters privately.
And that is not it! The podcast creators will also be able to choose and pin specific responses that will be there, appearing publicly, right below the question. The answers which will be selected and pinned by the podcasters will appear along with the listener’s Spotify username. In simpler words, this particular feature is the same as radio call-in. The only difference between this feature and a radio call-in is that it is not recorded audio from the listeners or live audio but text.
Availability
Whether the listener is an iOS user or an Android user, these new features will be available to both. Any Spotify users and Anchor creators can now use the new features. But wait, these new features are available only in 160 markets in the world. It is not Spotify’s entire global footprint (which is 178 markets) but the large majority, indeed.
Other Official Rollouts
Spotify has not stopped at polls and Q&As for podcasts. It has also rolled out Spotify Greenroom and paid podcast subscriptions. Spotify Greenroom is an app for hosting live shows, and the paid podcast subscription is a combined format of music and talk-show.

What Is So Special About The Raspberry Pi Development Kit?
The Raspberry Pi Development Kit is created around the Knowles ALSonics IA8201 Audio Edge Processor with two Tensilica-based, audio-oriented DSP cores; one for AI/ML applications and high power commute, and the other for low-power, always on-processing of sensor inputs. 
It has 1MB of on-chip RAM that enables high bandwidth processing of modern, circumstantial ML use cases and memory to support several algorithms.

Vikram Shrivastava, the senior director of IoT marketing at Knowles, said that by choosing Raspberry Pi as the system host, they are opening up the door to add ML and voice to the largest community of system developers who prefer an Android or Linux environment. 
Studies have shown that over 50% of US households with broadband connections prefer using voice control for connected devices.  The demand for voice applications is increasing constantly. LinkedIn Launched Stories Last Year, Now It Is Killing It

LinkedIn, like every other social media platform, decided to incorporate the stories feature. But, after a specific time, it made no sense. Having the Story feature in a professional space is not relevant. 
Around the last week of August, LinkedIn announced that it would get rid of the story feature by the end of September. The story feature was first launched by Snapchat and then rumored to be duplicated by Facebook’s Instagram. It allows you to post mini-videos that are visible to the viewers for 24hrs.
It has been only one year since LinkedIn officially launched the story feature, but it started testing it out in 2018 in the form of “Student Voices.” The company later said, in 2020, that it had been internally testing the story feature. 
LinkedIn’s senior director of product, Liz Li, elaborated the thoughts behind taking this decision in a blog post. 
According to them, while they were developing stories, they thought that people would not want to attach any types of informal videos on their profiles. Therefore, the temporality would cut back the obligations, and users can post comfortably. 
Instead, it turned out that they want to create videos that leave a lasting impression and narrate your professional life in a personal way showcasing your expertise and personality. 
Li also gave hints on how the company is working on providing a richer and more conversational video experience to users. 
LinkedIn is constantly experimenting to discover new ways to enhance the user experience on the platform. It rolls out and tests many new features every month and waits for consumer feedback. 
They introduced stories about a year ago as a casual and fun way to share quick video updates. Now, they have decided to redo the story feature into a different video format to provide a better experience to the users. 
The platform wants to embrace mixed media and creative tools of stories consistently across our platform. At the same time, it is trying to incorporate these features more compactly in building your professional identity. 
To support this change, they will get rid of the Stories feature by the end of this month and continue to provide a new experience.

Google Is Ready To Pay $15/Year To Be Apple’s Default Search Engine

According to Toni Sacconaghi, an investment analyst, a regular guest on CNBC, an analyst with AB Bernstein made headlines last week. He gave an investor note, which claimed Google would pay billions of dollars to Apple for becoming the default search engine on its devices. 
He claimed that his firm’s research stated that Google paid Apple somewhere between $10 to $12 for becoming the default search engine in 2020. If his calculations seem correct, then the amount will reach approximately $15 this year. It would explain about 9% of Apple’s expected gross profit for this year if the research is accurate.
It is not shocking that Google pays Apple for favorable placement on their devices. But, the large amount involved is too high and raises questions about Cupertino’s commitment and how far the user privacy will go. 
The firm’s clients received the analysis in the form of a note. Philip Elmer-DeWitt was the first to report it publicly. He is a longtime Apple blogger. We already know that Google pays Apple a substantial amount to be the default search engine, but the exact figures are not out yet. 
Sacconaghi claimed that former research by the firm predicted Google paid about $8 billion to Apple in 2020. But, after analyzing the facts of Google’s traffic acquisition costs and Apple’s public fillings, they found out that Google paid $2 billion more than the anticipated amount last year. 
Depending on the evaluation of 2020 payments, Sacconaghi now predicts that Google is ready to pay $15 billion to Apple in 2021. The amount will increase drastically to $(18-20) billion by 2022. 
However, if these prices are correct, he claims that sooner or later, Google will give up on being Apple’s default search engine by 2022 or after. The costs related and the market risks are pretty high. 
According to his firm, potential regulatory risks can cost Apple a long-term loss, and the annual gross profit can go down by 4% to 5%. 
We all know the cold war between Microsoft and Google. It most likely influences the war of default search engines. Microsoft has been trying to level up Bing, and it is becoming a serious threat to Google. 
Sacconaghi predicts that Google will eventually surrender the space to Microsoft if the amounts keep rising crazily and the favorable negotiations with Apple take a backseat. 
He raised the idea that Apple purchases its own search engine as it has no viable clients in the area other than Microsoft and Google. 
The deal indicates a privacy issue considering Apple’s recent rank as the mobile OS/hardware company that disdains personalized ad tracking. 
While Apple blocks apps from collecting user information for tracking without the user’s consent, that same layer of security does not consequently spread to moving across the internet through a web browser. 
On the contrary, the deal is putting Apple in a situation where it is passing its users to Google- one of the most popular companies related to information hoarding and ad tracking. It tracks users that are not even logged in to a Google account. 
The term default search engine basically refers to that when people enter queries into the Safari URL or search bar, it will default to Google, including the text or voice searches aimed at Siri. 
The users, who look for an alternative, can command Siri to use DuckDuckGo or Bing for searching, as mentioned by an Apple spokesperson. However, research shows that Apple users rarely switch their default search engine. 
Annual studies show that over 90% of Apple users prefer the in-built Safari browser. Although the market share for Apple devices is lower than Android, Safari owns 53% of the mobile web browser share. 
The arrangement between Google and Apple has also raised antitrust issues in the US with the US DOJ (US Department of Justice) based on the recent case that goes back to 2020 on the deal. 
The DOJ quoted emails between senior employees of the two organizations mentioning, their vision is to work as one company. It was a piece of regulatory evidence. 
Google responded that the regulation of default search engine deals would decrease the quality of search results and increase the prices of the devices. Asking about its favorable positioning, Google basically said that everyone is doing it. 
As per the news, it is a slight hint to Microsoft making Bing the default search engine on Windows devices and other manufacturers who develop their own tools and apps with the Android installations.
