Evolution of Echo and Omega's Hugs

*I posted similar thoughts on Reddit before but wanted to write a bit more about it since I can't stop thinking about it

I get the impression Echo isn't much of a hugger - never has been, and not just because "he's a soldier" but because it's just not really his thing. Like, he doesn't mind hugs, but he rarely offers them so he also never gets hugs, and since he never expects them anyway, that's fine with him. (It's also possible the experimentation on Skako Minor and the prosthetics/cybernetics he now lives with make him more awkward with physical affection, but I don't think he really did hugs before then, either.)

So seeing how Echo's reaction to Omega's hugs has changed over time makes my heart melt 🫠

Hug #1

Echo has announced his departure from the squad, and even though he's not planning on being gone forever - he just feels called to do more to help the other clones - this is still a goodbye. Omega, holding back tears, hugs him - and Echo definitely wasn't expecting this, so it takes him some time to figure out how to respond.

Hug #2

Echo has been gone for a bit, and this is the first time he's meeting back up with the squad since his departure. He can see a hug is imminent, and so he kinda shyly/awkwardly opens his arms in readiness... Nope, he was not prepared for Omega's level of sheer enthusiasm, but hey, this is nice.

Hug #3

This is the first time Echo and Omega have seen each other in months, since Omega was captured and subsequently escaped. There is absolutely no hesitation on Echo's part now: as he and Omega approach each other, he is already getting down to his sister's level, arms wide open, and they simultaneously hug each other.

Echo's face is slightly obscured by the hug, but he looks SO RELIEVED and happy that Omega is back!

Echo still might not be much of a hugger in general (he and Hunter still do their standard brother/soldier handshake to greet each other, for example), but when it comes to his little sister, he is all in on the hugs now❤️🥹🥰

Missed opportunity to have Tarkin and Dooku randomly meet during the Clone Wars as a nod to Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee’s friendship.

Like imagine during the Citadel arc Dooku shows up in person to keep things in line and *boom* there’s this beta-Nazi GAR captain.

They have their banter, a very British smartassery battle, and come to realize that they both have intriguing ideas about politics and the ineffectiveness of the Senate and the Jedi.

But then things would go all AU because Tarkin would totally at the very least strongly consider defecting and joining Dooku. Tarkin could easily prove himself as an effective commander of a droid army (they’re much more obedient than clones, after all), and Dooku would make sure his new buddy gets every promotion in the book until the two of them have no one left to conquer but Sidious himself.

But they’re both smart enough to know the limits of their power and run away together and fall in love and rule their own little gremlin planet as hardcore co-dictators and they live happily ever after.

Okay, so maybe that’s why that never happened.

I don’t have strong opinions about dinbo, but if they did get together and if Obi-Wan and Satine were still alive, can you imagine the family functions?

Like Bo has been the “cool single aunt with a checkered past” for so long and she finally brings home a partner and it’s fucking Din and they’ve already adopted an adorable little Jedi gremlin child.

Satine would absolutely grill this man—who has a very different worldview from her, but so does Bo, so Satine will never fully understand Bo’s taste anyway—just to make sure that he reminds her to eat and go to sleep at a reasonable hour. Din lets Satine know that he has a bullet journal he follows of all the basic self-care things that Bo forgets to do sometimes.

Obi-Wan and Grogu hang out and talk about Jedi stuff and reminisce about old times because Everything Is Fine. They even do a bit of Jedi Training: Uncle Edition.

There’s also some awkward tension between hardcore Jedi Obi-Wan and hardcore zealot Mandalorian Din at first, but they respect the fact that they both somehow got on the soft side of a Kryze sister.

Bo and Satine list off all the things they don’t like about each other’s boyfriends, followed by “so he’s probably perfect for you, that explains why you’re so happy” and they sip alcohol (Satine has some nice wine from the cellar, Bo brought a beer cooler) and smile watching their boys play with Grogu.
