This is true. Parents don’t need to know if they’re kid is Gay or Trans. That’s the whole point of someone coming out is so that the person does it when they’re ready on their own time when they feel the most comfortable. And for sure a person won’t come out if you don’t make the space feel safe and welcoming and if you don’t make them feel comfortable around you. Also coming out is a choice not a must. It is a thing that will happen when someone is ready and comfortable enough and feels the space they’re coming out in is safe and supportive enough for them
