When life gives you lemons… but what if you’re tired of lemonade?
Another piece for my website involving my mental health and holding on for the sun to return.

This year marked a new shift in my artwork - I started painting what I was feeling for the first time, rather than just drawing the ideas in my head. This one is from February, and it’s simply called “Overwhelm”.

I haven’t been painting a lot lately, but I have some finished pieces sitting about. Most of my work at the moment involves the return of Spring, because the right now it still feels very far away. It’s still incredibly cold and depressing.
This one is called “Awakening” and is another knitwear portrait where I experiment with paint textures. It’s a small ode to the sun coming back. I hope it’s soon.

My wee friend Emme pointed out that I was missing the element of *magic* in my coat series. I can’t argue with that - so here you go Emme - drawn just for you. I hope you like it ❤️

Wee grandma is now available as a print from my Redbubble store: https://www.redbubble.com/people/nevernone
If you’d like to take her home as a mini print or a postcard, please do! Thank you for all the support you’ve all given me on Tumblr - I appreciate it so much.

This is the last of my elemental coats, and the first to feature my new PenTips Mat and metal Ink tips. These make drawing on the iPad feel a lot more like using a paper and pencil, and it’s been really interesting to get used to. (I’m not being sponsored, btw - they were a birthday gift.) My now much-slower work process has changed again as a result, but it’s been really enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend them.

Sorry for the delay, it’s been a bit of a rough week, and I’m behind with everything.
This is the third elemental coat, Air. Half way through this one I got some new kit, so this is the last piece I did with the standard iPad + Pencil set up. I’m hoping you can see the difference in the next one.
Also…special thanks to Tumblr for all the love my wee granny painting got. I’ve never had that kind of response before - it was amazing ❤️

So here it is…the third picture in my knitwear series. I had abandoned it, but playing around with textures on the “Coat” series made gave me the confidence to have another crack at it and finally finish it. I’ve never drawn an older lady in my life, so this was a real challenge in more ways than one, but I learnt a lot from it.

“Tide Coat” - I went back to old habits a bit with this one, but it was fun to try watercolours. It’s hard to break out of perfectionism, but it’s always worth trying.

So… at the beginning of the year, I found myself completely lost. I had no ideas or motivation and I was left with a bunch of unfinished projects that I gave up on. Nothing seemed to work.
So I ended up just working on sketch pages. Playing about with mark making and experimenting with textured brushes. No aim in mind, no expectations. Just trying stuff out.
This is what I ended up with. “Flame Coat”. It was the first piece I managed to complete in months, and I love it for that reason.

And here is the second one. This one is called “Meadow” and I’m really fond of it. I’ve been experimenting a lot with texture, and while it takes me a long time to do, the process is really enjoyable.

At some point during winter, while I had Covid, I decided what I really wanted to do was a series of pieces featuring characters wearing knitwear. I say “series”, but as I became more ill, I couldn’t carry on. So I have two of these pieces, the third is unfinished as I lost the will. Each one went very slowly and they took me a while to do, and eventually it was over a month before I picked up my pencil again.
This little piece is called “Thorns”.

This is it… this is the last of the pieces I was due to upload. Guess I need to do some new pieces 😬I wonder where this year is going to take me.
This is a little garden guardian I affectionately named “Lilyhead”. Sort of inspired by those old movie posters of swamp monsters emerging.

This is the last hooded lady picture I’ve done. This is “Apricate”, another one where I played with texture. I’ll be starting series two sometime next year, but I’m really pleased with all of these. It’s been a journey!
