Habits I picked up because of school that I keep up with (on my semester break)
Waking up early- I find that, with few exceptions, I wake up before 8:30am every day.
Study groups- okay I’m stretching the definition here, but I have productivity days at coffee shops with my friends, where I work on job applications, blog posts (hehe I’m writing this one from the coffee shop), or work on hobbies (mostly crochet and embroidery).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notion schedules-I used to keep weekly and daily schedules on notion to track schoolwork, but I now use them to track my work schedule and hangout dates with my friends
Always keeping lists/notebooks around- I am rarely without a notebook in arms reach. I have a notebook in my bag and by my bedside. I keep sticky notes in my apron at work so I can write things down and add them to my notebooks. I used them as a type of bullet journal but with none of the structure.

I still study- I just now have full control on what I study. For example, I plan on teaching myself the Dewey decimal system soon. (And picking up some asl)
Digital art- what started as doodling in the margins of my digital notebooks has become a full-blown hobby of mine.
Visiting the library- honestly, I just find the library to be a very comforting place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Writing book reviews- while my book reviews for my blog posts are far less structured and formal, they only exist because I got used to writing them for school.
Reading nonfiction- I found through online classes that I enjoy reading textbooks and nonfiction work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Listening to audio books- I started listening to audio books back when was both full time student and working full time because I had no time to sit down with a book. Now its my preferred way to read.
Picking up hobbies- I am always looking for my next hobby to pick up. Last year I picked up painting and crafting. I also tried out wax seals and gardening (shout out to the two plants I haven’t killed yet).
What productive habits have you picked up?

I hate to say this, and like, rain on everyone’s parade, but after scrolling past three posts about it on a writing tag …
If you are looking up synonyms to exchange words out in your story with the purpose of sounding smarter, more sophisticated, or complicated to your reader, you are probably abusing the thesaurus.
Now, if you *want* to do this, I mean, you can write whatever or however you want! But I just want you to know that this is frowned upon if you are trying to write at a professional level.
I have an old article on this somewhere …

“you talk like a smart/pretentious person” actually I just forget simple words constantly and am forced to rummage through my brain for the nearest synonym, which is usually twice as long and needlessly specific

Just saw a tweet like "REAL libraries check for quality!" as some kinda gotcha at AO3?? But I'm a librarian, so... heads up that "quality checks," AKA "weeding" or "pulling," means looking for damaged books or ones that haven't circulated in a few years to clear up shelf space. We don't Quality Check for if the library books have nontoxic romance or good grammar. :U I assure you every library in your area has absolute ABOMINATIONS of bad storytelling as well as your favorite pop lit.

Bookish pet peeves: when an introduction doesn’t count towards a book’s page total.
How am I supposed to track it? No you do not get to ruin my stats for ten free pages.

why did You end education? what's in Your heart now?
I stoped pursuing education as a college major a couple of years ago, due to not loving the current climate surrounding teachers and their rights in my country. At the time I transferred my major over to history because that was the subject I was planning on teaching beforehand, so I already had a ton of those credits. and if I ever did want to get back into teaching, I wouldn’t necessarily need an education degree to teach but I would need a subject agree if I wanted to teach high school.
I stopped pursuing gaining an education last semester, and at the current moment, I do not have the funds to continue classes. I do hope to return to college at some point in the future.

I feel a Fool
A Fool!
I kept hearing people say to switch from Audible to Libby and I kept putting it off because I Fear Change.
But! And I cannot stress this enough
LIBBY
IS
AMAZING
I've saved $500 dollars THIS WEEK. Their customizable features are DIVINE. I was struggling to read actual books and couldn't read anything other than fanfic but Libby makes reading so easy! It feels like I'm reading fanfic on my phone as a night time treat. Their audiobook selection is amazing too! I maybe read 4 books last year but now I've read 20 books THIS MONTH.
This is me officially trying to spread my Switch to Libby and Condemn Amazon and Audible propaganda.
If you couldn't care less about Sticking it to the Man hear me out: Libby is free. Free. Completely. It's free to download. It's free to read the books and audiobooks. You're helping your local library AND authors! And you're not paying a cent! Just put in your library card and take out those books to your heart's desire!

Some people apparently didn’t see this one the first time so I will say it again.
“Early” is subjective. Doesn’t mater when u get up if u say it’s early then it’s early for you!
(For those wanting context: I made a post many moons ago where I say that I picked up the habit of waking up “early” and find that with rare expectations I am awake before 8am. I am still getting notes to this day about how 8am “is not early” and at this point it’s just annoying.)
Don’t let any one shame you for what time you wake up in the morning. Everyone has a time they feel most productive. Doesn’t matter if you wake up at 5 AM or noon.
As always do what’s right for you not what right for others.
