The past few days I’ve been reading the new Patricia Briggs, Smoke Bitten. It was such a great read and so nice to be back in the Mercy universe. I then reread one of her Alpha and Omega series too. Master of Restless Shadows is out on the 6th of October. This is another great edition to two of her other series, Lord of the White Hell and Champion of the Scarlet Wolf. While this could be read as a stand-alone I do recommend reading the other books. This is a fantasy series following Atreau who is a familiar face from previous books. Loads of court intrigue, assassins and a group of allies desperately trying to avert a war. While slow to start, this ended on a high and I cannot wait to read the final part in this new series. Beautiful, rich world building and a diverse cast of characters. I think this book had me when I read the following line describing Griff, “…TV. Expert in the history of theatre. You know. Short-haired Lucius Malfoy. Tall. Sarcastic. Ice-blond hair. Ice in general.” I am a total sap for tall, sarcastic and icy. - - This was such a delightful read. I just loved when Griff starts to see Freddy as a real person, not her stage persona. He begins to feel a connection her. It is all so delicious and romantic. Setting the book in amongst a kind of crumbly mansion was so beautifully written and makes me want to spend my time there swanning around in the summer. I loved it. Cute and sassy heroine and a super grump hero. Meet Cute by #helenahunting is out today! This was definitely not the book I was expecting to read. From the cover I thought I was in for cute and fun, and while there were definitely elements of this authors trademarks humour and style this was a much more serious and emotional book. • • Kailyn and Dax have a tempestuous relationship. They’re attracted to each other at college, but a misunderstanding keeps them from exploring their relationship further. After tragedy strikes, Dax is thrust into the role as primary caregiver of his younger sister. While trying to navigate his way through custody trials and learning to parent he meets up again with Kailyn and their attraction is still strong. Their romance develops as they learn more about each other. It was sweet and a delight to read. I did find some of a tension in the plot around keeping secrets from each other a tough one. Not the kind of tension I’m a fan of as you’re always waiting for the the other shoe to drop. How this was resolved and how Kailyn’s career changes as a result I felt a little conflicted about too.
