Kali has no Shame

Too many say that Kali sticks out her tongue because she is ashamed for stepping on Shiva…but I know this is not true, especially when it wasn’t the original meaning. Whenever I speak to Kali Maa, she is full of fury. Kali feels no shame because she is shameless; feels no fear because she is fearless. Kali sticks out her tongue to taste the blood of those she slaughters, that is the true reason, the truth that many other Hindus try to hide. 

Others say she is full of compassion only because people grew weak and began to fear her true nature, and then twisted the truth to make themselves feel better. But these actions disgrace Kali, and have deceived generations of Hindus. 

Kali is not compassionate or full of love, she is the Mother of Destruction, and will end all things without a single tear of sorrow. But she is not evil either, don’t be mistaken by thinking in black-and-white ways. Kali is simply neutral towards us, as she does what she must so that things can progress. She destroys the redundancies inside us and around us, and one day will take part in the destruction of the entire world. This is the dark glory of Mother Kali, and she should be feared as much as she should be respected. 

So why do I call her mother if she does not act motherly? Because Kali is the one who brings the birth of the crushed forms, allowing them to reshape themselves into things that are better, or else they become nothingness. She “nurtures” me in her raging destruction, as her burning red eyes pierce my soul. Kali does not create or preserve, but her destruction gives me the chance to recreate myself. She slices away at my false self, causing pain until I realize who I really am. And she slices away at the world, causing chaos until we realize the lies we tell ourselves about our own lives. Then she shouts, telling us to rise with a voice like thunder- not because she loves us, but because this is what we must do. 

It is only through destruction that any rebirth can take place, and so Kali Maa sacrifices all in her frenzied blood-dance, so that we can either become more…or become nothing.

Hello, what advises/tips would you give to someone who is inexperienced when it comes to meditation? Thank you

First, you should take it slow; even the most dedicated practitioners will say to start with small steps at first. It is important to go gradual and not to overtly stress yourself, otherwise your inner turmoil will prevent you from achieving deeper states of consciousness. Second, find a spiritual tradition that makes you feel comfortable with, and then stay with it. I have seen many people pick and choose elements from various traditions, but when you are a beginner, you would benefit more from the discipline and dedication of a singular tradition. It's also better not to confuse your mind with a mix, since the symbolisms may vary (for example, the Western magickal tradition has different color/direction placements than the Medicine Wheel, or the Chinese systems). Third, remember that some systems start with relaxing the body first and then the mind, and others start from relaxing the mind, then the body. Basically, any type of meditation has to integrate some form of relaxation, otherwise it won't be very effective. In order to do this, take your time and sit in a quiet room, or an environment conducive to it. Some like outdoors meditation, but others find it too distracting. Fourth, there are supplements such as music, yoga mats, chi balls, ambient tracks, mala beads, headbands, crystals and so many more that you literally have to check them out yourself and see what suits your energy and purpose. Fifth, search on the internet for detailed methods, including videos (but try to avoid subliminals to begin with); you should familiarize more with different examples from a variety of sources and cultures before training yourself in a particular one.

I am a mentally ill, unemployed pagan who has been going through some very difficult times lately, so any help at all would be deeply appreciated. I live in a country that is heavily oppressive towards anyone who isn’t Christian, even making it difficult for us to find jobs and we cannot even practice our pagan faith at our own ancient sites. To make matters worse, I am being forced to move out of my apartment during this corona crises, and I hardly have enough money. Basics of Using Crystals for Magick

Crystals are just one of the many tools a witch is able to utilize, but the basics of using them are often not taught nowadays, causing many to be unaware of the foundations of working with them. In short, crystals act very much like amulets and talismans, but this also means they must be properly activated in order to operate. There are many things that they can assist with, but of course they cannot do everything, so plenty areas of magick will require alternate methods.

Every crystal has the potential for certain types of magick, but this potential must first be unlocked. This is done through meditating on the crystal through a basic ritual, or a more advanced one if you wish for maximum effect. Each type of crystal has a unique energy signature that connects it to certain frequencies for specific areas of magick. This also means that not one crystal can replace every other crystal, this saying about clear quartz was a rumour. Clear quartz, just like every other crystal, has a unique energy connection and its own specialties. The energy connections of crystals also cannot be changed to whatever you wish, these energies are like their DNA.

When you are selecting a crystal to work with, make sure that its energy connection is associated with the type of magick you are needing. The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall is a very good book to begin researching the specialties of each crystal type. But remember, a witch who is experienced in sensing energy can simply hold a crystal and connect with it in order to know which areas of magick it corresponds with, as well as its associated planets. It is a good idea to experiment with this beforehand in order to test yourself and make sure the sensations you acquire are correct.

Another important thing to know about crystals is that each one is sentient, some more than others. This is because each crystal is the body of a minor earth elemental, which remain as the consciousness of the crystal. Some few crystals may have an additional spirit inside them- a nature spirit that sought out the crystal as a temporary home, sometimes to recuperate from injury. If you are fortunate enough to obtain a crystal with a nature spirit (which are other elementals), they may be willing to assist you with your magick. However, only around 30% of crystals contain one of these. Among these are some few elementals that are especially ancient and powerful. If you have developed clairaudience, you can connect with this spirit and write what you learn from them. Also remember to always treat the spirits with respect; you do not own them.

Crystal shapes: The shape of a crystal also effects its power and usage. Different shapes have different frequencies and ways of directing the crystals’ energies, for example: rose quartz is ideally used as a sphere, but it doesn’t work well as a pyramid. Fluorite works well as a sphere or prism, while lapis lazuli can be used well in all forms. White quartz and calcite can also be used well in every shape. Amethyst varies a lot depending on what form you get it in, but if you want it to be associated with your dreams, buy a raw amethyst (the ones with spikes).

Cleansing: Once you purchase your crystal and take it home, the first thing you need to do is cleanse it. If you do not, whatever toxic energies that were absorbed from its previous environments and people will affect it and yourself. Cleansing crystals can be done in several ways, such as placing them in sunlight, clean water, or a bowl of salt. However, keep in mind that some crystals have adverse reactions to these and must be cleansed in a different way. Although if you are skilled with using energy in magick, you can cleanse the crystals by burning them with astral fire. Make sure to sense or astral-view the crystal afterwards to make sure you did it properly.

Errors and Conflicts in Sources for Deity Work

The mythologies aren’t always accurate:

-The reasons for this vary; sometimes an idea developed by a priesthood gets further developed over the centuries (as in Egypt), or is mutated by an opposing priesthood (like with the Akkadians and Sumerians). And other times, there were contrasting versions or variations on the same myth (Ancient Greece), which happened due to some misconceptions or later development of philosophical thought, adding to religious lore. 

Some people would also write myths while not having proper contact with deities, and so wrote stories simply for entertainment purposes. Some such examples can be found in Greece, when the myth of Cupid and Psyche was written as a drama. Or with the Roman poet Ovid rewriting the mythology of Medusa to turn her into a dramatic character (when her original myth said she had been born as monstrous and cruel).

Omissions of facts from the myths:

-This could happen in case of invading forces, causing a culture shock or threatening to erase certain scriptures or texts with regards to traditions about deities. Examples of this have happened throughout the history of Mesoamerica, as well as parts of India (under the Persians), and parts of Northern China under the Mongols.

Purposeful alterations to suit a monotheistic (or other) objective:

-We can see examples of this habit occurring in various parts of the world during colonial times, especially during the forceful indoctrination by the missionaries in the entirety of the American continent, and the action of these preachers and missionaries in Africa, both during the Islamic invasions and forceful conversions, as well as during the years of slavery. But it doesn’t end there. There have been attempts to bastardize pagan faiths in order to incorporate monotheistic doctrines and we have seen examples in European Celts, as well as in some parts of central America.

Deities are not static, they evolve:

The idea of immutable deities is preposterous. Simply because if an animal or human can change over time, an advanced being that is millions of years old certainly can as well.

This erroneous belief stems from the idea that gods are perfect beings, each having achieved the apex of their potential or having been born perfect. This idea is a human notion that disregards evidence from various mythologies as well as evidence from those that closely work with the deities throughout the ages. Demons, angels, deities, and spirits in general are endowed with higher intellect and free-will; therefore, they change and make choices. They evolve, like everyone else. Some gods who might have acted a certain way in the past might likely act different nowadays, perhaps wiser or perhaps more cruel. It all depends on the gods themselves and what choices they choose to make.

Don’t rely on books all the time:

Learning from books and other written sources can only get you so far. All spirituality demands personal sacrifices, direct experience, and evolvement in every stage. Communication works both ways. Until you have achieved that level, it is prudent to have abstained from judgement on what the deities can and cannot do. But instead, maintain an attitude of learning and of having the will to test things through experience.

Conclusion:

Due to these reasons, one cannot expect to truly know much about the gods if you only read their mythology. It is a decent start, but it can also lead to many misconceptions about the divine. Some myths are true, some are not, and some are only partially true or were twisted into being how humans wanted. Humans are not always a reliable source, especially for the complex lives of deities, so it is far better to get information directly from the gods themselves. Make an effort to develop a strong communication system with them over a long period of time, committing yourself to this process. 

Once you are able and fully know that you can accurately receive messages, politely ask the gods for their truths, rather than simply following whatever written words tell you. But in the meantime, keep an open-mind and decide to learn things through experience. No book or text can ever fully tell you the truth, the truth needs to be sought out from its very source.
