The SPOP gang plays paintball!
I completely forgot about this short (719 words) I wrote for the @spop-palentines prompt Fight! based on a conversation with @starfoxkit and @certifiedbowsbian (so credit to the two of them because many of these ideas are theirs).
I suppose this could happen in canon but no one is using powers so I was picturing some kind of modern AU. (Almost everyone is in this but I'm only tagging the characters with the biggest parts.)
"Whoa!" Scorpia yelled as someone shot the clipboard right out of her hand. She ducked, but it was immediately followed by three more shots from nowhere, staining her shirt with red paint. "What th— Bow!"
"Just ignore him," Adora said quickly, because Scorpia had that look on her face, that one that made you remember she seemed sweet but had a habit of yeeting people who annoyed her to certain death. "Remember, we're going to be the mature ones. The ones who keep this game friendly. Who don't get sucked into the—"
"Hey Adora!" Catra said flirtatiously before just taking an entire handful of paintballs and smashing them directly into her girlfriend’s face. "I'm trying a new technique."
"Damn it, Catra!" Adora shouted, wiping her face as her girlfriend disappeared into the woods cackling.

Is this annual/will it be done next year too?
We ran this event in 2021 and 2022 so far. As for 2023... I'm not sure yet.
Our one mod dropped out and won't be returning, but if we find another volunteer to help run it before next February, I wouldn't be opposed to doing it... but a LOT can happen in a year so I'd like to wait until we get a little closer to say for sure.
But if there is interest in us keeping it up in the future, please let us know and we'll take that into account!

That's a wrap on SPOP Palentines 2022!
A huge thank you to everyone who participated this month!
We weren't sure how much participation we'd get this year compared to last but we were thrilled at how many great things people made and shared!
Had something you wanted to make but didn't get it up on time? No problem! We'll reblog late submissions whenever, just remember to tag us!

“Sooooooooooo,” Mermista drawled.
Hordak stood ramrod straight, very uncomfortably.
“You set fire to my country.”
Hordak cleared his throat. “I did.”
“I suppose you feel really sorry about that?” she asked disdainfully.
“I… do. Yes. I am aware that that is insufficient.”
“Mhm. So like.” Mermista rolled her eyes and glanced away. “I had Prime in my head too. I can kinda get why you acted all…” she gestured vaguely at him. “Like that.”
“Ah… thank y–?”
“But if you ever try anything like the Horde again I’m dragging you under and drowning you personally.”
“Ah. Yes. That is… fair.”

Day 28 of @spop-palentines: What If? Here’s the synopsis of a fanfiction idea that I’ve been threatening to write for months, but haven’t gotten around to and probably never will. Basically I just wanted more time for Adora and Entrapta to bond:
Tumblr media
Young Entrapta was clearly already really into science since she presumably built herself robot parents. One day she’s working on her latest experiments and picks up on a weird reading.
Accompanied by one of her robot parents, she goes to investigate and finds a baby. She’s very disappointed and tries to decide what to do, leaning heavily on leaving the baby in the nearest village, but one of her devices registers portal energy on the baby and now she’s fascinated.
She takes baby Adora home and has the robots raise her as her sibling. When she’s old enough, Adora is roped into becoming her lab assistant and although Adora’s enthusiastic to help, she ends up being clumsy and ruining several experiments; has no interest in the science; and clearly has too much energy to just be standing around passing Entrapta test tubes.
Aware that Adora loves reading about the knights in her story books, Entrapta builds her a training robot and when Adora is old enough and good enough at fighting, Entrapta starts sending her out in search of First One’s tech, which leads to her meeting various other characters.
Eventually Glimmer and Bow come to Dryl to recruit Entrapta and Adora decides to join them.

Sweet Bee was the golden crown of Etheria’s grapevine and fashion goals. Everything she wore was in her classic black and gold and set the trend for envious princesses everywhere, but no one ever had the heart to hate her for it because she was the woman that everyone wanted to be.
She wasn’t even mean!
Scorpia wasn’t quite sure how she found herself under Sweet Bee’s wing, only that the woman had gifted her bolts of gold and crimson cloth and use of her seamstresses, jewels and accessories and good company.
“You’re already too nice to me!”
“Nonsense, sweetheart."

Secrets and Siblings
Bow and Catra as brother and sister for @spop-palentines prompt What If?
Part of The Dark Princess (Horde Glimmer AU)
Bow knows his story about how they escaped from the Fright Zone doesn’t add up, but he’s sick of Adora grilling him about it. It’s only when he’s alone with his sister, Catra, that he can finally bring himself to talk about what happened between him and the Dark Princess back in that Horde cell.

While everyone in the rebellion are friends, the relationship between Entrapta and Perfuma will always be a little strained. What makes it particularly difficult is that Perfuma doesn't ever seen to get what she did wrong, even when Scorpia tries to explain, pursuing Entrapta's friendship with a dogged determination and endless perkiness that is almost condescending and only pushes them further apart.
(For @spop-palentines promot Awkward)

Somewhere there's a glorious AU where Entrapta of SPOP has adopted Leo Valdez of HOO and Varian from TTS.
Unfortunately, we'll never get to see what that AU is like because the three of them have already blown it up in the name of tinkering, science and alchemy.

“If you’re from the desert, why are you white?”
“Oh my god, Catra, you can’t just ask someone why they’re white!” Mermista scolded.
“Listen sweetie,” Double Trouble interrupted what would easily devolve into bickering, should they let it. “There are a couple rules to running with us, alright? No mamby-pambying, no sucking up, no boyfriends in the communal spaces, and on Wednesdays we wear pink.”
“I can do… two of those four things,” Scorpia said with bright confidence she only half-felt.
“Eh, we’ll work on it,” Double Trouble said casually, eyeing those delightful spikes and wicked pedipalps. “Take a seat.”

It’s “Crack (Friend)Ships” time for @spop-palentines again, so here is a sequel to last year’s Adventure Time crossover, Parallels :p
Intersections
“So anyway,” Simon said, “That’s the story of how my fiancée turned into a gigantic unknowable god of chaos.”
Hordak nodded sympathetically. “That is abrasive, my friend.”
They were both perched on the sofa at Marceline’s house, drinking mugs of hot cocoa while Entrapta and Bubblegum sat on the floor sorting through the bits and bobs that used to be Marcy’s electric amp. In theory they were only trying to add a 13 to the volume control, but the project had stretched on so long and the two scientists were speaking to each other so rapidly that by this point nobody else really knew exactly what they were doing.
Marceline floated in from the kitchen. “‘Sup Simon. ‘Sup Batman. Anyone need refills yet?”
“No thank you, Marcy, I’ve got plenty!” Simon chirped. “Oh, um, it’s gone a little cold, though.”
“I will gladly have more,” Hordak declared, holding out his empty mug. “You may inform Catra that her recipe is improving dramatically under your tutelage.”
Marceline took both their cups and drifted back into the other room, where a cat-eared woman was quietly cursing over a saucepan.
“How did the video make this look so easy?” Catra muttered, furiously stirring the chocolate.
“Your dad says you’re doing a good job,” Marceline offered, adjusting her altitude.
Catra blanched. “Hordak is not my…! Oh, whatever, it’s fine. You know, when your geek girlfriend and his geek girlfriend fell into each other’s science projects, I didn’t exactly expect it to lead to this.”
“Nothing ever goes the way you expect it to,” Marceline shrugged, slowly somersaulting in midair. “But that’s not always a bad thing. It can be nice to be surprised. Plus, between us? Your girl loves it here. If you want I can show you where the best dungeons are for date nights.”
Catra seemed to seriously consider this. Then something occurred to her and she looked around in sudden confusion. “Hey, where is Adora, anyway?”
“Outside on the deck playing Dare or Dare with Finn. It’s a hero game.”
Catra looked out the window where Marceline was pointing. Sure enough, both headstrong blondes were there, squaring off in honorable combat. Several crushed cans of Super Porp littered the boards at their feet.
Adora held a squirming thing with too many legs out towards the boy. “I dare you to eat this bug!”
“Ha! Thath eashy!” Finn smirked through a crunching mouthful. “I dare you to do a kickflip off the roof!”
“I dare you to fight me with one hand! Wait, sorry.”
“I dare you to name your first-born after me!”
“All right, I think that’s enough,” Catra said, hurriedly climbing out the window to retrieve her girlfriend.
“But Catraaa,” Adora whined as she was dragged inside, “I made a Royal Promise!”
Back in the living room, Entrapta and Bubblegum had reassembled the spare parts into… something. It didn’t look like an amplifier, but somehow they’d managed to plug Marceline’s ax into it anyway. The setup vibrated with unstable energy.
Entrapta bounded over and held the guitar out to the vampire. “The gelatinous one and I have completed our improvements! Test it out!”
“Hang on a hot sec before you do, though,” Bonnie cautioned, donning blast goggles and a pair of massive earmuffs.
Marceline noticed that Simon and Hordak had left the couch to build a sandbag bunker in the middle of the room. Everyone else hastily climbed inside and disappeared from view. A moment later, a purple ponytail in the shape of a thumbs-up popped back over the top.
“Okay, we’re secure! Give it a shot!”
Cautiously, Marceline plucked at the smallest string. The walls shook. Oh well, she thought. I have been meaning to remodel this place.
She struck a chord.
“Wow,” someone said, after all the dust and wreckage had finally settled. “Music really is powerful, man!”

@spop-palentines day 25: Power Imbalance
Read on AO3
Scorpia looked at Adora and Adora looked at Scorpia.
Force Captain. Princess. Unwitting pawn in a corrupt computer’s game. Traitor of the Horde. Hero of Etheria.
On paper, there was no difference between them. Equals across the bases.
But Adora had been doing this “good guy” thing a lot longer than Scorpia had, and Scorpia felt—
Well. Unmoored, she guessed.
“Yeah,” Adora answered belatedly, “Yeah, I was, yeah. I would’ve liked someone to show me around, when I first arrived, too. Sorry. I was just… thinking.”
Adora rubbed her forehead, then smiled up at Scorpia and offered her a hand.

“It’s useful, see? This way, if you get enough brain damage for short term amnesia, all your data is still intact!”
Bow eyed Entrapa skeptically on that one. “Uh-huh. Personally, I’ve found it’s useful for talking myself through an issue.”
“That too!”
Bow chuckled softly. “What other tips have you got?”
“Ummmm,” Entrapta’s hair scratched her chin. “Oh! Always have backups of your backups! And make sure they’re kept in separate files from each other. That way, if one system crashes or one filing cabinet catches fire, you still have your information!”
“You’re really big on recording things, huh?”
“Absolutely!”

Day 24 of @spop-palentines Mentor. Follow up to my post for day 10 parental as I thought Micah should get a family picture too.  When Micah returned from his banishment on Beast Island, he realised that Adora had basically become part of the family (and since she helped rescue him, he wasn’t exactly going to complain at having her as a second daughter). After the war it becomes obvious that she struggles to goof off (with anyone other than Catra), so he takes it upon himself to help teach her how and fortunately he stumbled across her love of finger guns. Pew Pew. Naturally he takes any opportunity to reconnect with Glimmer too, when she isn’t busy with her royal duties (and Bow).

For @spop-palentines prompt Mentor
Bow had always been a huge admirer of Entratpa's work. When the Best Friend Squad first came to Dryl to recruit her for the alliance, he'd harbored hopes that she could be a mentor for him, help him level up his tech skills. While they didn't get the chance to do that until after the war, when they do get to start working together regularly, Bow's surprised to realize he's increased his skills so much over the last few years, their relationship is less like mentor and student and more like intellectual equals.
But what he never expected was how their roles would reverse and he'd end up becoming a mentor to Entratpa when it came to friendship and social interactions. When he was younger, thinking of everything the tech princess had to teach him, he'd never thought he might have something to teach her and their friendship going forward is one based on mutual appreciation and learning from each other.
