✦ Lost in Limbo Devlog #11 | 05.08.24

AHA! Nope, we didn't forget about April's devlog. In fact, we have been busier than ever—doing early preparations for our Kickstarter, working on the demo, sorting out legal stuff...

Speaking of which...

This month we have been really busy making our studio official by the law! Now, to pay taxes and cry! YAY!

We are very very excited about it—and also terrified! We are still sorting out the studio's bank account, as burocracy isn't the fastest thing in this world, sadly. This is the first thing I wanted to talk about in this devlog, because it's such fantastic news for us! :')

Now, let's jump on the process we've made this past month, shall we? ✨

This past month, Raquel worked very hard on our second Key Art. This was originally made for Steam, but I modified the format a bit so it could also be used in other places! I honestly love this one—we have our first Key Art to represent the darker aspects of the game, and then this one to show off the characters' dynamics! Not everything's going to be horror and mystery in the game!✨💜

Also, we have been working on designing the merch for the Kickstarter, but we can't show anything yet. All we can say is that everything is looking gorgeous and we are so excited to share it eventually!

Thanks to Airyn, we've made great progress with the backgrounds! In fact, there's only one left to finish. The one you see above needs a few final touches (that will be made by yours truly!), and then I'll animate it a bit to get it ready for the build! The rest of the backgrounds are finished, animated, and integrated in the build :3

The survey icon is missing, but it'll be there!

Well, this should tell you everything you need to know when it comes to programming! The whole demo is programmed. Functional. Nothing crashes. Stuff works and I'm over cloud nine. I have been working on the final touches (revisiting scenes, checking sprites, music / sfx volume...) and the beta testing phase will begin soon. Soon as in tomorrow.

We've mainly used this month to review the auditions we received for our casting call, contacting the selected VAs, etc. Every VA has accepted their role, received the document with the lines we'll need for the demo, and we'll work hard to announce the cast publicly as soon as possible! We want to at least do a promotional short video showcasing every LI and their VA!

Sadly, making the studio official has (and will) take more time than we anticipated, and as we want to release the demo on Steam, the review process will most likely slow us down. There's the option of doing an itchio release and then a Steam one, but I'm not sure if that'll hurt the project. We are still keeping the demo release date a secret, until things settle down!

Also, I couldn't finish this devlog without talking about the Magic & Mystery Otome cross-promotion! ✨ We were invited by the amazing folks at Best Laid Plans Studios to participate in this event that showcases 12 amazing visual novels like Alaris, Obscura, Dual Chroma and more! I know I have been pretty annoying with this (can you blame me, though?!) so I won't keep rambling about it—just check everyone out, please!

I think that's all! Well, that's not all, but we gotta keep a bit of mystery surrounding the demo! We have been busy bees this month, with the making of the studio, the polishing of the demo, contacting and coordinating the VAs...

We are so excited for the demo release. I'm personally excited and terrified, but blame it on the OCD. I keep jumping from catastrophic scenario to catastrophic scenario. I'll have no control over what happens when the demo goes live, but I have control on what I can do before that happens—and that's working as hard as I've been doing this whole time.

I don’t have like a ton to say about this but I have mixed feelings- also spoilers ✨

I like Crystal I really do but at times her dialogue bothered me and some of her behavior was kind of obnoxious to me- like at times when she started aggressively inserting herself into situations and just kind of made it about her? Like in episode seven (though this happened many other times too) where she was having a total fit about not going to hell when it’s clearly for her own good and not about her no matter how much she cares? and I totally understand that this is her being written as an immature teenager who hasn’t been dead or a teen for 30-100 years but as a teenager this sort of selfish immature writing kind of gives me icky feelings because I know so many people who are mostly emotionally intelligent not just raging all the time.- and I mean that for a lot of teenagers and teen girls in writing, to make them tough and likable they are made volitile and annoying which to me is not likable (my opinion, I just don’t like the trope that’s not what I’m talking about right now anyway-) I do think she had good development and I liked her a lot better by the end, some people on other forums were saying that her actress was weaker than the rest of the cast and I don’t really know about that? I think maybe she was artificial at times but I’m blaming that on the writing. I also didn’t like her dialogue about her “crazy demon ex” either, it felt very forced? -Not her emotions about the whole mind cage thing I get that but just all of the “UGH WHY ARE THEY SO FUCKING NOSY IM JUST TRYING TO GET OVER MY STUPID STUPID CRAZY ABUSIVE STALKER DEMON EX BOYFRIEND UGHHH ILL DOUBLE KILL THOSE BOYS IF ITS TGE LAST THING I DO” that felt out of place to me- Lastly I get that this is also an aspect of her teenager-ness but I didn’t like the amount she cursed? I have no qualms with cursing but it felt to me like when little kids and middle schoolers start cursing where they just explosively yell fuck when like literally nothing warranting that kind of expletive has happened? She curses too often it makes her sound really stupid? Like the ep 7 “take me to hell I won’t die” thing, she was screaming at Charles who was being pretty reasonable like “fuck that I’m going he’s my fucking friend too fine then fuck it- fuck you ill find another way to get to hell” like yes she was emotional but that isn’t what teenagers sound like guys?

idk- I’d love to hear what other people think and to be clear I do like her I just focused on the negative- I guess it’s a human thing. She had lots of strong points just I ending up not liking how much she was on screen, this isn’t really about you? It’s about the dead boy detective? Give me more ghosts or Edwin or Charles or Jenny or Niko or Mr walrus please? They were fun I like them? I just felt like there were times where she was over shadowing Edwin and Charles and they are what’s actually important to the show? I think I’d like her more in smaller doses- I felt like I spent too much time having to stop and be like “girl step back this is not about you, you are not the star right now”

and to the argument of her actress being inexperienced or over acting or just not great- I have no specific feelings on this but like the other main cast had for the most part very little screen acting experience and were Fantastic so i don’t know what to feel in that area? so yes, i think crystal is an interesting character and i think she grew on me and developed in the season but i also definitely think that she’s annoying and I’m conflicted because i don’t want to not like her-..

what are your thoughts? Id love to hear different perspectives but please be nice to me because I’ll probably delete this and cry (unless that was your goal, then carry on)

HI @rainbowghostcat and @boxx-sama -- I have been enabled so I'm here to ramble a bit about my faves >:3 Top three are definitely Fuuta, Mahiru, and Yuno! Good taste gang !!🤝✨✨✨

It's a mix of enjoying their songs, genuinely getting into their stories, and relating to them just enough to go a little crazy asdfsd :') Shidou comes in at a close 4th, I love him a lot but I'm not as insane as I am about these guys lmao.

I was holding onto these asks to ramble when I had the time/energy but uuuuhhh I didn't mean to go on for so long sorry 😭 Woe, 03 06 02 thoughts be upon ye...

Starting with Fuuta!! His character has everything – He’s cool, he’s lame, he’s terrifying, he’s tragic, he’s funny, he’s unbearably real, he’s my silly little guy, he makes me cry, etc. The core of his character that always gets me is how normal he is. How he’s probably closest to the majority of the audience – he (and Kazui) are the only ones who did not have murder on their mind at all. He anticipated harm, but the thought of someone dying never once crossed his mind. He’s right around teens/early twenties. He engages with the online world a lot. So many milgram fans are in that age range, on the internet a lot (in order to enjoy the project and its fanbase), feel a strong sense of justice (since they’re so engaged in a project about morality), and aren’t in any situation dramatic enough that they expect anyone to die. He’s so much like all of us. 

Continuing on that, his heart really is in the right place to start. He cares deeply about people and society, which is why he wants to fix it. His vision is a bit small, focusing on petty issues rather than huge social issues, but the point is he cares. He attacks Es because he’s trying to be the brave representative after hearing Haruka and Yuno were attacked. He yells at Kazui and Mahiru because they’re not helping the others. He takes care of Haruka. He gives Mahiru a birthday gift even when he has nothing to give. 

His biggest issue is, he doesn’t belong. I’ve written up a whole analysis on how he’s written very neurodivergent: he misses social cues, he’s on the outskirts of friendships and groups. It’s more clear in characters like Haruka and Muu, but Fuuta is just as incredibly desperate for attention. For love. For that feeling of belonging in a group. His knightly fantasies aren’t ones of violence and weapons – they’re mostly scenes of him surrounded by a close-knit party of adventurers who are cheering him on. 

All of this together is what makes him so compelling and so tragic to me. All the characters are human and real, but he’s the closest to a lot of viewers (myself included). He let the attention get to his head for just a bit too long, let himself get swept away in finally having friends. He got distracted thinking that the focus of being a hero was defeating, and not protecting. And all it took was a brief time of getting drunk on this attention, and now he has a little girl’s blood on his hands. It makes me absolutely insane.

I also think he’s such a cool special case because he truly got a taste of his own medicine. The other characters are being judged in an unfamiliar way, but he is being scrutinized in the Exact same way that Fuuta pried open others’ privacy. He was attacked and almost died because of Es’ judgment, just as his victim was attacked because of his judgment. The process of Milgram is putting him in his victim’s shoes, and it’s so cool to see.

Aaaaand on a lighter note – he’s just so fun!! He’s my little skrunkly fr!!! I love his shit-eating grin. I love his ridiculous laugh. I love his crooked teeth. I love the knight theme, and the fire symbolism. It’s pretty standard, but it suits him perfectly. He’s got such cool, badass songs! I’m obsessed with his voice, both his singing and vd performances are incredible. His vds are the only ones I’ll listen to often and out of the blue – Arthur Lounsbery uses such an interesting and fun voice for him ;--; His design is so fun (apparently I have a Type for redhead characters…), and his t2 development and design were amazing! There has been no other Milgram character that I want to reach through the screen and shake violently by the shoulders and also hug so badly 😂

I’m so obsessed with her theme of ‘being so kind that it causes harm’!! Because it’s very easy to dismiss the other characters as unforgivable when you look at the harm they wanted to cause their victim, or disregard they had for their victim’s feelings. But Mahiru… she doesn’t want to cause any harm. At all. She took her boyfriend’s feelings into consideration so much so that she didn’t stop him when she definitely should have. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and yet she fucked up big time!! It’s such a unique type of murder!! The other characters need to be sat down and told “don’t hurt innocents, don’t seek revenge, don’t be selfish, etc” and then Mahiru is over here like “don’t be… nice to people.” Because it’s not about being nice per se – it’s about not being a doormat. 

(I know her story is still a bit mysterious – my running theory is that her bf had health issues completely separate from their relationship. They started getting bad and he started to consider suicide. Instead of stopping him, Mahiru combined her need to copy her lover (as seen a lot in TIHTBILWY), her ideas that lovers do everything together, and her belief that one should do anything they set their mind to (as seen in her comments about Es/Kotoko and the attack). She says she’ll join him, make it a lovers’ suicide, but doesn’t follow through at the last second.)

She (and Mikoto) have really interesting themes of how not caring for yourself can actually hurt others. They put all their efforts into giving back to others, to society, fitting into the norms and expectations, not questioning others, and it backfires catastrophically. If she had stood up for herself and her relationship, she would not have assumed anyone deserved to die. She would have known that it wasn’t up to her alone to deal with her bf’s mental issues. She obviously wasn’t handling it correctly (rats….) but she didn’t need to! She should have pointed him to professionals instead of deciding she deserved to die along with him! But she was so poisoned by society’s expectations of being the perfect girlfriend and being considerate of others…

She’s just such a tragic case because the power of love is supposed to be perfect. She’s been taught her whole life that it’s wonderful and magical and pure. Who can kill with the power of love, after all? I can completely understand her denial of the situation, because I also wouldn’t picture a terrifying, dark scene if I knew I was only being nice for my whole life! 

And her crime aside – she’s super fun :3 She has The Most Fun songs, she’s full of energy and excitement and enthusiasm! (out of the various english covers I like, hers is the one I jam out to most often hehe). She’s the most stunning character there! I’m a sucker for sunshine-coded characters 🌻🌻🌻I think she has the best symbols out of everyone, between the birdcage and the carousel. The fact that both Mahiru and her bf could be the bird and the cage. The two symbols representing beautiful things that can be trapping. Representing cycles. Representing relationships. I know the hourglass is a popular one but I think this is Yamanaka's finest set of symbols. I am unwell about it. So yeah, rather than give her a good shake I want to yank her right out of there – Get in loser we’re gonna get you some self-love!!!!

And a slightly shorter rant on Yuno because that was a lot adfsdf. Ad I'm aware of the irony that one of my points is that it kinda sucks how most rants on Yuno are cut short :( The thing is, she’s been very honest about her crime, and most people have considered her issue in a context outside of Milgram so they already have a pretty good idea on where their vote stands. Despite being the “obvious” innocent one, she really is the most emotionally charged character imo. It’s easy to relate to the other characters and feel knee-jerk reaction, but none have been so widely discussed as abortion and sex work. I can talk openly about everyone else and get into a nice discussion on morals and emotions, but Yuno is the one character I have to talk very, very carefully around. Whether I’m rambling about Milgram to my family or interacting with new fans, I never know what’s acceptable to say without falling into a whole debate on politics.

So, if it’s made me into someone who keeps quiet and skirts around things, I shudder to imagine the amount of lying/masking Yuno herself must do on a daily basis. I can easily avoid the topic if I choose to – she was dealing with that debate long before coming to Milgram, and is currently dealing with debates and judgements and insults and pity surrounding it. She’s naturally strong so I think fans often forget all the shit that this 18yo is dealing with on a daily basis, and how effortless she’s making it look <3

I was tagged by the lovely @naranjapetrificada to share my Thoughts and Speculations for the timeline of OFMD S2, ie "eight predictions for eight episodes." Thank you, and sorry for the late response; I was facing The Horrors (derogatory). But now that the panic that is OFMD S2 being almost 3 weeks away is setting in, WHAT BETTER TIME TO RAMBLE ON AND ON ABOUT IT HSDJKS~

girlies (gn) there is honestly so much to account for. there are so many different elements that we've seen through promotional material and spoilers that i'm just like,,, how is this all going to Fit. BUT LET'S TRY OUR BEST SHALL WE LMAO-

((also hi hello this is ✨Jodi From the Future✨ coming in after typing up this entire thing, and realizing it was only supposed to be like,,, eight ideas for what's going to happen in the eight episodes. meanwhile my bitchass did a full blown prediction for what's going to go down timeline wise PFFF. BUT SURE YEAH THAT COUNTS AS ONLY EIGHT RIGHT? IT'S FINE,,,))

Episode 1. I think this is going to be more of an establishing episode. Establishing where the characters are, what they're up to, what challenges they're facing, etc etc. So, it'll likely focus on Stede's yearning, and Ed's heartbreak. I wouldn't be surprised if the "he's actually a good guy," the bottle kiss, and the wedding crash are all in this episode. And maybe it'll end off with the wedding topppersjfskfhsjklklbf,,,

Episode 2. An episode to build off of the motivations established in one, and also to move the characters a bit closer to each other. Maybe this is the episode where Stede tries to employ the help of the Red Flag Fleet, because they need a better mode of transportation to catch up with the Revenge. And maybe if that doesn't go too hot lol, maybe the storm will be towards the end of this episode to beach the Revenge somewhere. Though, I feel like that's quite a dramatic event, and would make more sense to occur a bit deeper in the season? But based on the rest of my thoughts/theories, it simply Does Not Fit SJKDS. So for now, I'm treating it as like, a divine intervention type beat where the crews are being beckoned closer together.

Episode 3. For SOME reason, be it just crossed fingies or the consideration of parallels or both, I have a feeling that Stede and Ed are going to reunite at the end of this episode. I think taking the episode release schedule into consideration also points to a reunion, because then we'd be left to sit with that for a week l m a o. I feel like we'll get to see all the intense emotions of them seeing each other for the first time in months, and their subsequent awe/reactions, before it abruptly cuts off as a cliffhanger. As for the actual BODY of the episode?? MAYBE the storm could also fit here in the middle somewhere, with the same sort of "the universe is wanting these people to be back together so lol STORM BE UPON YE."

Episode 4. The aftermath of the reunion. You get to see the proper reactions, ie Ed probably being dismissive and Stede trying to remain warm/enthusiastic. And then allllll the characterization that comes along with that, ie Stede's crew being like "I told you so" or Izzy being like "oh my FOOKIN god edward was throwing knives around and crying and making us crash weddings and now stede actually shows up and tHIS IS WHERE WE'RE AT???" So maybe, MAYBE, this is where Izzy steps in and tries to better things a bit by helping Stede, because he's Sick and Tired HSDJKLS. Like, this'll be the Fanfiction Episode™.

Episode 5. Wouldn't it be something if the party was in this episode to mirror the 5th episode in season 1 l m a o. And forgive me, because my theories towards Certain Events have seesawed ALL OVER THE PLACE HSDKJS. But hear me out hear me out. So episode 5 starts off as a sort of continuation from episode 4, and maybe Stede is trying to work himself up to better woo Ed. Like he's pulling out all the stops, which is why he's trying to train and better himself and do whatever he can.

But then MAYBE he has some sort of realization that like...Edward, his Ed, was so so excited to go to the Fancy Party Full of Hoity Toity People™. And was so so happy to dress up and be beautiful and feel himself. And so he decides to host a similar party on the Revenge for everyone, because not only would it be good for morale, but good for his beloved. So, they do, and everyone is Hype. Wee John gets to dress in drag, Roach gets to fire canons, etc etc. It's all so full of color and life and happiness again.

And, of course, maybe Ed and Stede have a Moment of some sort. I'm really really praying for a "Ed...May I have this dance?" type thing, followed by them having their first quiet and romantic moment of the season. And you can SEE some of Ed's walls coming down, even though he'd probably still be hesitant/tense. Maybe they even have an almost kiss type moment jUST LIKE IN THE PREVIOUS 5TH EPISODE. Or maybe the hhngfngmfngdmfd pearls,,,

...But then EVERYTHING CHANGED WHEN THE FIRE NATION ATTACKED SJDKSHKLDS. Because that ONE shot in the trailer where Wee John is shown in drag looks like a party, but also a party that was crashed by very unwelcome guests. So like, wouldn't it be something if the almost kiss moment was interrupted by some sort of enemy, and everything rapidly goes downhill.

Everyone gets bound, Stede gets tied to the mast, and...what if THIS is where Ed is thrown overboard. What if the enemy is someone who has it out for pirates, and very much has it out for Blackbeard in particular. So, they tie up Ed and throw him overboard in a murder/execution attempt, and Stede has to watch :))). Something something a parallel to Ed having to watch Stede get almost killed NUMEROUS times hskdjs. The turns have tabled.

And maybe there's a desperate moment between them right before Ed's thrown over. Maybe a desperate lock of their eyes, a desperate scream from Stede, a desperate declaration of feelings, even. And then the episode ends with Ed in the water.

Episode 6. The aftermath of episode 5 ofc. Stede and the crew have been captured, or maybe even just Stede has been captured. And Ed washes up on the beach alone.

I think this'll be where Ed sort of grounds himself and comes back into himself, because the gravity of the situation will hit him particularly hard. Like, he FELT things again. He felt BEAUTIFUL again. He felt DESIRED again. He felt like HIMSELF again. And didn't act upon it, and got separated from his sweetheart before he could. I wouldn't be surprised if he subsequently fights ghosts/demons of his own here, ie Hornigold or his father or individuals equivalent. So like, the barrel/clobbering shot is him fighting against his past type deal.

And then MEANWHILE, I think this is where Stede's going to get tortured. The darlings are both going to Go Through It in this episode.

AND, the more I look at that one shot of Ed in the woods with someone present with him, the more I'm like...IS that Wee John??? Or is that someone else? Because it would be something if the Revenge Crew was left alone, and only Stede was captured for his crimes against the Navy (murders and the escape from the academy). And then they somehow try and scramble/get help/link back up with the Red Fleet/find Ed themselves.

So, that one shot could have been them doing just that, and catching him up to speed after all that's happened. And maybe there's some sort of pivotal forgiveness moment/apology moment between Ed and the crew there too.

And then everyone's like...holy shit we need to go and KICK ASS ALL TOGETHER.

Episode 7. ✨The Battle Episode✨. Aka everyone kicking ass all together HSKDLS. Everyone uniting against a common enemy and battling it the hell out. There could be naval battles out at sea between the Red Flag Fleet, the Revenge, and the Navy, and then battles on foot on the black sand beach.

Something something wherever the enemy took Stede to torture him was also the same island Ed ended up on PFFFF. So, something something Stede somehow gets free, be it through his own devices or his crew, and they all start battling it out.

And ED is of course in the fray as well, especially pissed if he hears what they did to Stede.

Annnnd it leads to yet another reunion, ie them fighting to each other on the black sands. And I really, really, REALLY cannot express how badly I want them to fight to each other just to strongly kiss the moment they make it.

Annnnnndd then okay lol the CAVE. I'm thinking that one or both of them sustain injuries, or maybe just have to go and hide out somewhere since they're both VERY much wanted by the enemy. Something something them having to tend to each other and also having emotional conversations/talking it through, mixed in with more kisses.

Annnnnnnnnnd something something they all manage to fend off the enemy...*Buttons voice* FER NOW...

Episode 8. I think this episode would start off very unassuming. Like, the crews have won their battle, and go on to celebrate/recuperate. Maybe this is where they end up at Jackie's, and Ed gets to do those Soft Eyes, because he feels better and safe and IN LOVE. And so maybe things will be a bit easy-going and romantic to start off with.

Remember the friggin lighthouse. Something something "major romantic moment between two key characters." Something something WHAT IF ED AND STEDE HAVE A MAJOR ROMANTIC MOMENT IN THE LIGHTHOUSE HERE. would they be insane enough to do a proposal or something equivalent idk. i think i wouldn't make it to the other side if that was the case.

and if it's not a full proposal, even a deep declaration like stede going "i'll be by your side forever. if you'll have me" would just be hsfkshfskljkladhalkjhdfklgd.

But of course lol, OF COURSE, SILLY LITTLE PIRATE SHOW WILL PROBABLY END WITH SILLY LITTLE PIRATE PROBLEMS.

So, I would not be surprised if some SHIT goes down at the end of episode 8, maybe even leaving Ed and Stede separated again. Or at least putting them up against very very high stakes.

I do wanna show you this! There's this gemstone called Azurite, that has this beautiful shade of deep blue, with purples, and some greens and gold speckles and spots (seriously - look it up, it's fantastic). I like the idea of her being connected to gems and stuff, and I think this one in particular fits her vibe SO well?? So yeah.

3. My grandparents are jewelers and they used to keep random geodes and gems around their house and azurite was one of them! I remember because they would try to teach me about rocks and gems and different gem cuts and I just sat there “no thoughts, head empty, I only want to look at pictures of agate and peridot”. their azurite was very very small and I’m not sure where it is anymore. My favorite gem has to be zircon though, love that stuff. I will for sure be reading more on azurite though!

pretty major spoilers for the epilogue ahead:

gale’s godhood ending is so genuinely fascinating to me. from a storytelling perspective, i am thrilled people who chose this path for him actually have a substantial ending now (as opposed to the gale origin ending where he just gets killed by mystra.) all endings for gale now feel particularly satisfying. as a writer, i imagine this may possibly be a verse for gale i explore at some point down the line.

what i cannot understand is the rising amount of takes i’ve seen over the last 24 hours of people claiming godhood gale is now actually his good ending. this truly baffles me and if you are someone in this camp, i would love to know your thoughts.

for me, talking with the god of ambition just made me feel sad! his hubris is on full display and it is entirely unchallenged. tara hates seeing him like this, elminster writes him the most heart wrenching letter about how he feels he’s failed gale, he doesn’t even visit his mother! sure he still has some of his humanity left by this point—if you romance him sure he still wants tav by his side, but he never says i love you. and do we really think that this version of gale will be a healthy partner, loving partner? what if you come to ever disagree with him? power corrupts and the more powerful he becomes, the more he will only fear losing that power. mystra wounded him and now he will become exactly like her instead of moving on with his life, instead of growing and becoming a better person. a human being.

and of course none of this is mention the very ominous ending from raphael about how dangerous gale will become. i feel generally, because godhood gale is not as overtly cruel as say, ascended astarion for example, people are more willing to look past the red flags. i would also like to clarify that i am in no way saying people who like bad endings are wrong—i LOVE exploring bad endings. i am so giddy and fascinated with this, i only don’t love saying it’s a morally good ending for gale. especially when his actual good ending is so perfect and sweet.

Seeing Mary for the first time was like a movie scene. There were sparks flying everywhere and you just knew you had to get to know him. You seemed to catch his attention too and it wasn’t long before you two started dating.

He was so young, you both were. Young, stupid and reckless. And so in love. 

The two of you did everything together. Mary dragged you to the grimiest bars to see bands you never even heard about. You showed him a type of kindness and love he never experienced before. You completed each other

Both of you thought that you would.be together forever. But life is not a fairytale and when you found out you had to move away you were devastated. 

It was late by the time Mary’s band finished with practice and he promised to walk you home afterwards. You sat through the whole practice in the tiny garage of his friend's house, but you were far too distracted to pay attention to them. You don’t  know how to break it to him. 

 You look over at him. He is rambling about a new song, his eyes sparkling with excitement, his gorgeous features illuminated by the street lamps and his soft hair being caressed by the gentle wind.

You choke back your tears.

“Mary-”

“-telling you now, that songs gonna-”

“Mary.”

“-Yeah? Heyy, what’s up?” he asks, concerned after seeing your expression. 

“I- I have to move.”

“Move? Well, you know my place is a shithole and I share it with the guys, but.. I don’t know, we could save up and find a little place for ourselves…That would be sick actually.” he smiles at the thought but you shake your head, now crying.

“No, Mare, I have to move. My grandma is sick and we have to move there to take care of her.”

Mary is speechless.

“Is.. where?”

“((a/n: i’m not gonna say a specific place but imagine it's about a 5-7 hours flight away.))”

“Fuck..” he kicks the pavement. “When are you leaving?”

“Next week.”

“I’m coming with you.” 

“You can’t. Mary your whole life is here, your friends, your band-”

“You are my whole life, god damn it!” he yells, making you jump. “I’m sorry.”

He runs his fingers through his hair and pulls you into a hug.

“We can figure something out.”

“We should.. we should break up.” you choke out, pulling away from Mray so you can look at his face,  not believing you just said that.

“What the fuck are you talking about? We can- fuck there must be something we can do.”

You shake your head again, “It’s not gonna work and.. and I want you to be happy so-”

“So you are breaking up with me? How's that gonna make me happy? Baby, I know that is not what you want-”

You take a deep breath.

“It is. I love you, Mare, so much but.. It will be easier if we break up.”

“That’s stupid.” he takes your hand in his.”Please don’t do this, okay? I will fly out to you, we can talk, I- I need you y/n.” his voice breaks. You reach up to pull his face closer and kiss him.

You can taste the cigarette on his lips and your salty tears. You kiss him, pouring all your emotions into the kiss. You kiss him like it is the last time before running away leaving Mary alone on the street.

 a week later, at the airport

"Y/n!" 

You don't stop, maybe they are not calling for you or it's just your imagination playing tricks on you.

"Y/N! Wait!" 

You spin around seeing Mary rushing towards you. You gasp. 

 "Mary…" you feel like crying, but you bite your lip and wait for him to catch up to you. 

 His face is red from running, his messy hair is everywhere and he's panting. "I..-"

He grabs your arm , trying to figure out what to say. He looks so lost. Panicked. You have never seen him like this.

 "I don't want you to go." he sounds so desperate, his hand grasping the sleeve of your coat. 

 You're way past trying to stop your tears from falling. You gently brush his hand from your sleeve. 

 You want nothing more than to wrap him in your arms but you know if you do you wouldn't be able to leave. And you have to.

 "I love you.." 

There is a loud robotic voice announcing that your flight’s departing soon. 

You tear your gaze away from his and walk away once more, silently crying. Leaving him all alone again. 

Mary just stands there, staring after you. He doesn’t move for god knows how long. He doesn’t care about how loud he is sobbing and he doesn’t even acknowledge that people are starting. He feels like someone just tore his heart out of his chest.

8 years later

You moved back a few months ago. Got a small apartment and a job. You slowly started to reconnect with old friends. But there was one person you didn’t dare to get in contact with... Of course it was Mary.

Seeing him for the first time after years was like a punch in the face that made you see stars. Like a kick in the stomach that awakened the old butterflies from their deep slumber. It’s like the stitches holding your heart together finally snapped, causing all those past wounds to bleed again.

You are confused as you feel all these emotions at the same time and yet you feel..at home. Safe. Like you are where you're supposed to be. 

 You are still uncertain what would be the best thing to do here. You want to run up to him and..  And what? It has been eight long years! You sure have changed and just by looking at him you can tell that so did Mary. Neither of you are those lovesick, reckless teenegers that you once were. 

What if he doesn’t even remember you?

Just then, you see him look up to you from across the bar. Or maybe he wasn’t looking at you because he went straight back to his drink and- Now he is looking at you again, this time his eyes are wide open. 

You are both staring, unsure what the other is thinking about, afraid to make the first move.

But there is this indescribable feeling, burning deep inside of you. A magnetic force pulling you towards him, but you’re frozen to the ground. 

Mary finally gives in, standing abruptly from his seat. He crosses the room in a few seconds but time seems to freeze and it feels like hours.

“Mary..” you breathe out. He hesitantly opens his arms, however you don’t hesitate to throw yourself into his arms. His arms wrap around you tightly and you bury your face in his shirt. Every other noise in the room, every other person seems to disappear. It’s just Mary and you.

“Is this real? I am not dreaming right?”

“You want me to pinch you?” you chuckle. “No, you’re not dreaming. I am here and I am not going anywhere.”

“You better not!” Mary says, making you smile. He takes a deep breath and continues softly. “I couldn’t take it again.”

You reach up to caress his face and when he doesn’t pull away you whisper: “Maybe it wasn’t the right time for us back then. Maybe.. we can try again?”

He nods. “I want nothing more.”

Basically all I ask is that you be anywhere from 18 to 60 and that whatever character{s} I play get violated by your character{s}✨ Here are some brief descriptions of the characters I’d like to play for this sort of plot {the fantasy versions, specifically, but they all have Cyberpunk backstories as well if we go with that setting}: - An adorable pink angel with ball joints and a tendency towards insightful, off-putting, reflective ramblings on his own inner workings and those of the people and world around him and a nonchalantly cordial attitude towards the surreal. He is a fanciful little weirdo with hips that’d make a goddess of beauty cry tears of envious rage. He is viciously prideful and a bit fickle underneath the bimbo-ish charm, however, and a passionate artist. He’s been taught to view himself as mainly valuable because of his body and his innocence, and he might be pretty easy to mind-break - An intensely malicious demonic assassin who is basically feral, but ultimately rather delicate and lost underneath the hard shell comprised of trauma, a constantly activated fight or flight response, and experience being treated as weak and thus worthy of contempt and easy to abuse by other denizens of the Hells. He is already accustomed to being treated like a sex object and will be the most likely to retaliate violently effectively if not handled firmly - And an angelic opera singer with intense mommy issues and an utter lack of comprehension for how anything works. He knows how to sing really well, and how to act like a snob at parties, and that he’s special, and he does not understand anything else. He can’t do taxes, he doesn’t understand why people take offense to his ego, and he doesn’t know how to prepare his own food, as his mother kept him completely ignorant of how to function independently so she could keep all the money he made from his career without him ever figuring out she was exploiting him or leaving. He has been primed to be taken advantage of his whole life, and now that his mother is dead, he’s vulnerable. I wonder how Frisk and XChara are gonna team up, because we know it’s gonna happen, we see it in the intro, Frisk and XChara with the save button

I had this theory that it would happen by XChara running away, Frisk thinking he’s like the others and trying to hurt people, Fight (?) ensues between XChara and maybe Papyrus or Asgore, trying to protect Frisk, XChara explains everything then boom besties but now i’m not sure because of the whole thing with XChara needing “pure determination” to defy XGaster.

I also remember seeing a theory on reddit about the names of each XTale character’s battle themes being foreshadowing for season 2, it was something about how XPapyrus seems to really really hate being on XGaster’s side, and his battle theme’s name is deceit, so maybe he’s lying about his loyalty to XGaster or something along those lines

and it would make sense, but it makes me question the names of everyone else’s battle theme, specifically XFrisk’s, being “Duplicity”

Duplicity definition: deceitfulness; double-dealing

synonyms: two-facedness, decietfulness, deception, funny business, shenanigans, you get the idea

if this whole “Battle theme names being foreshadowing” theory is true, then is he also lying to XGaster about his loyalty? or, to my dismay, would he be lying about something else later on…?

the fact that you can write so much is super cool!

firstly, i think it's super important to point out that when you write a lot, you write a lot of brilliant content and nothing ever feels superfluous. it flows and it reads easily, and everything connects.

that is so damn hard to do!!!

and you do little to no edits too?? that's insane. because your stories read like they're edited because they're so slick and clean.

and secondly, there's no cap for how much you have to write!

this is supposed to be a fun place for you to experiment with your writing and to test things out with an audience, and just to have fun, and discuss fun ideas.

we have no expectations of you capping your fics at a certain word count. most people who come here love these characters and love your writing, so the more time we can spend time with these characters and your writing, the better. so i'm pretty happy to assume that most of us are pretty damn happy with your long fics.

secondly, about capping... we also don't have any expectations as to when you'll release your fics! we'd rather you take your time and be happy than feel pressured to release fics as quickly as possible! you're not a factory, you're just a brilliant wizard of a writer!

and also, this is not a writing competition or an essay or a dissertation where there is a certain expectation for a word count! i feel like sometimes stories themselves dictate how long they'll take! like the story takes root, and then it guides you to how long it needs to be. it's not an essay. it's not a commission or a specially tasked piece of creative writing especially written with the task of meeting a rubric of a creative writing competition. instead, these stories are avenues for you to explore your ideas, abilities, style, form, etc., and so there's no pressure for you to commit to writing to a certain word count.

one key thing in writing, i think, is for your writing to be slick, and it doesn't matter if your fic is short or super long, as long as it meets that criteria. your prose is not unnecessarily flowery and it is not ramble-like; instead, it is clean, action-driven, well-paced and sprinkled with thought-provoking imagery.

in other words, to put it short, you're doing brilliantly and your writing is superb, and i'm constantly impressed by you.
