not to purgatory post in march 2024 but holy SHIT i need to gush about a song off the bolas playlist so listen the fuck up (yes soulfire you too, trust me):

EVIL PEOPLE, BY SET IT OFF. added by Charlie Slimecicle at time of posting it is the 3rd track on the playlist, a spot WELL EARNED, FRANKLY (2nd is ofc punk tactics, used in that iconic animation, and the 1st is a foghorn sound effect for equally obvious reasons)

THESIS: THIS IS THE PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF BOLAS. (it also goes so hard)

in the song, the singer is talking about "evil people" (obv, that's the title). AT NO POINT IN THE SONG CAN I CONCLUDE WHETHER BOLAS IS THE SINGER, OR THE EVIL PEOPLE.

AND THAT IS PERFECT FOR TEAM BOLAS. now listen up chucklefucks

HOWEVER, MAY I DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO THE FIRST VERSE:

THIS IS REMINISCENT OF THE OTHER TEAMS FROM BOLAS'S POV ON DAY 1. bolas attempted to rp it out ("gave an inch") and were killed in stone silence for it ("you take a life") and then SUFFERED THE REST OF THE DAY LMAO ("now i'm swimming with piranhas"). this would suggest that BOLAS IS THE SINGER.

LIKE GENUINELY NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I LISTEN TO THIS SONG I CAN'T CONCLUDE WHETHER IT'S BOLAS SINGING ABOUT THE OTHER TEAMS, OR IF IT'S THE OTHER TEAMS SINGING ABOUT THEM

and genuinely i think that is PERFECT for bolas, i think that song perfectly fucking encapsulates the absolute madness that was team bolas. i think BOTH are true; i think bolas IS EQUALLY the singer and the evil people. i think bolas fully believes they are the singer and i think the other teams fully believe bolas is the evil people and i think that's PERFECT. BOLAS ARE THE EVIL PEOPLE, and yet they're also the ones being menaced by the evil people!!!!! and that's it that's purgatory!!!! that single fucking song is team bolas done and DUSTED. Idk about you, but I believe in the “Problem Sleuth, The Felt, and The Midnight Crew co-Exist in the same universe” supremacy even though it may not be true. It’s real in my heart 😞💖

I believe this with all my heart too!!! It would be wasted potential otherwise 😩

Personally I like when the Felt are included in the mix! Its either MC and Team Sleuth, or MC and Felt, but rarely all three. Like the idea of the Crew and Team Sleuth potentially working together against a common enemy is too good. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't, right?

This is where I start rambling and its really long, you don't have to read it! I just felt inspired (I even talk about this post)

I also like to imagine the historical innacuracies in the Problem Sleuth universe are due to the Felt messing with the timelines. Tho it's not like their universe was entirely accurate and realistic in the first place (it doesn't have to be), as stuff like innocuous doubles and the imagination realm are a thing that exist and make sense to them.

I should clarify two things:

As a noir artist (aesthetic, NOT values) who's really keen on history I've done plenty of research on the time period that PS is based on for my own stories, and I'm in no way saying that it should be accurate! I just think it's funny to imagine a gang who messes with time and space were the reason why a noir detective knows the existence of Snoop Dog.

I should also say that I apologize if my ideas have already been said or done before. I got no way of knowing what people in the 2010s came up with already (I was 8 when Homestuck was peak in popularity, have mercy). Tho I do have to thank a specific fanfic that triggered my monkey brain into developing a similar concept to what the author did with the Crew (Y'all have made me start reading fanfics again, I hope you're happy). it's Mr Suit and Tie btw.

All being said, I proceed to talk about my silly little universe half inspired by TWAU game.

Before the events of Problem Sleuth it was just Team Sleuth, the gals and Kingpin as n°1 public enemy. All living in a film noir world forever stuck in the prohibition era, and althought the years go by they essentially stay the same. Not until one day stuff not yet invented started to appear out of nowhere, time anomalies that affected sometimes even structures began to happen (Spiderman into the spider-verse type of anomalies), same time as two new criminal organizations began causing trouble.

Again, this was all before the events of Problem Sleuth. So they had time to accept these new changes over the years and grew accustomed to the new stuff around them, using them to their advantage even.

Also similar to GPI creating the universe thanks to time shenanigans, Slick created the city even if he "didn't exist yet" in this universe

As I explained in a previous post, Team Sleuth and other characters from the webcomic are all human in my interpretation (with a few exceptions). While the Midnight Crew and The Felt are just disguised as such. I don't have an explanation why or where they come from, nor do I want an explanation. As @/problemsleuth said "a little bit of supernatural & eldritchness goes a long way in making noir very very fun." and it's SO very true.

But why I find this particularly interesting is because I think it gives a great excuse why Team Sleuth is after the MC and the Felt. We're talking about a new set of characters who all weirdly possess strange abilities that could endanger the public (the MC with their shadow based magic and the Felt with their time shenanigans), and not just common mobsters. I don't think it's unfair for Team Sleuth as they got equally powerful friends and are not entirely incompetent at times. If they could beat DMK, they can beat anything tbh.

I got a lot more to say about the whole "human disguises" stuff, but this post is already too long and it's off topic (my whole rambling is off topic) so I'll leave it up to here.

Daily Devotionals for April 15, 2023

Proverbs: God's Wisdom for Daily Living

Devotional Scripture:

Proverbs 14:15-18(KJV): 15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. 16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. 17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated. 18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

Thought for the Day

Verse 15 - The Hebrew word for simple in verses 15 and 18 means "foolish, easily seduced." The simple believe anything; the wise examine a matter before committing to it. The Bible tells us that we should prove all things, not believe all things. Society is flooded with things that appear harmless. We cannot be overcomers until we learn to "test" or "prove" the issues of this life (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Jesus warned of false teachers and gave guidelines for detecting them (Matthew 7:15-23). Just because someone prophesies, casts out devils, or does miracles in Christ's name does not mean that he is from God. Jesus said we would know false prophets by their fruits (by whether or not they live godly lives). This fruit of the Spirit is listed in Galatians 5:22-23.

While we are admonished to be careful, some become close to some beautiful Biblical truths in the name of caution. We are told to prove all things; neither rejecting something because it is strange or new, nor receiving anything until we have proved it against God's Word. All Christians agree that our standard is the Bible. God gave us this book as a gauge so that we could know whether something is good or evil, truth or error, right or wrong (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Not only are we to "test" the spirits in men, but we are to do the same with any supernatural manifestations that we might experience. Today, when the world is being exposed to so many false things, we need to be careful not to expose our spirits to false dreams, visions, revelations, prophecies, or voices. The Word of God teaches that God can manifest Himself in any of these things, but we are not to blindly accept everything that comes in the name of Jesus. We need to test or prove these also. One of Satan's greatest devices is to counterfeit the real things of God and come to us disguised as the working of the Holy Spirit. How do we test these things? Let us look to God's Word, as there is always wisdom there to show us what is truth.

Verses 16-18 - Those who are wise will reverence God and turn away from evil. Fools are arrogant, quick-tempered, and reap folly as their portion. The wise gain knowledge from God and leads overcoming lives. God's ways are pure, peaceable, and full of good works. The devil inspires strife and envy. We must prove all things, checking to see if they agree with Scripture and if they produce good fruit. Only then can we accept it?

Prayer Devotional for the Day

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for Your wisdom and guidance each day. It is so exciting to walk in Your way. We do appreciate the unexpected blessings You bring our way each day. Thank You for the wonderful people You have brought into our lives. Lord, give us the discernment to recognize those things that are not of you. Give us spiritual eyesight to see things that are of the enemy so that we might not be fooled by him. Keep us from anger and help us to know Your will so that we can follow You closely in all of our ways. Bless our families and friends and keep them from the wicked ones also. Grateful Dead Meet-up at the Movies is a Long, Strange Trip from 2023 to 1991

Dead Heads across the globe on June 22 hurtled through time (and “Drumz” and “Space”) back to an unseasonably cold and windy night at Chicago’s Solider Field in 1991, where the Grateful Dead played a show that continues to withstand time’s test.

Solider Field 6/22/91 might not have been as revelatory 32 years later inside an Ohio movie house. But it was a wonderful three-hour excursion to another lifetime when the biggest worry was whether Jerry Garcia would sing “Dark Star.”

He didn’t. But the post-“Drumz” instrumental rendition was a unique and special event.

While Sound Bites has never had an actual flashback, these annual Meet-up at the Movies events are close enough on the occasions when the vault springs a gig the blog happens to have witnessed.

From the plush, reclining seats in the theater and benefitting from up-close-and-personal camera work, Sound Bites, who spent the concert in the faraway bleachers watching the low clouds turn early evening to night, was able to see and hear - the wind whipped the sound around the cavernous stadium the first time around - things differently this time.

For one thing, what passed as state-of-the-art graphic representations of Dead iconography is laughably cornball in 2023.

More striking, however, is how much fun the Dead were still having at this late date and perhaps the veteran members of the band were inspired by the fresh blood that keyboardists Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby represented. There’s a special moment in the front half of the second set when Hornsby is teasing “Dark Star” heavily and Garcia, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh shared bemused smiles before launching into “Playing in the Band.”

The “Terrapin Station” coda also found the band having a high time as percussionist Mickey Hart rose from his seat several times to bash his cymbals unabashedly while Welnick could be heard shouting with glee just off-mic.

All of this onstage commraderie, however, could not disguise the fact Garcia was a bit of a mess. He often rested his nose on his mic when singing and his head on his chest when soloing - behaviors that signaled trouble ahead, though he was dressed in blue rather than red.

The guitarist, whose energy level seemed to rise and fall across the lengthy show, decided not to provide many backgrounds to Weir’s delivery of “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” instead leaving those lines to the accordion-squeezing Hornsby, who played as if he’d been a full-time member of the group he’d joined in September 1990 for decades.

This show may be best-known for the monster version of “Shakedown Street” that appeared in the No. 2 slot of set No. 1. And though the second set runs nearly two hours and hits a glorious peak on the post-“Space” run of “Dark Star Jam,” “Playing in the Band Reprise,” “Black Peter,” “One More Saturday Night” and “The Weight,” with verses from Garcia, Hornsby, bassist Phil Lesh and Weir, the Dead’s Solider Field debut is one of the rare shows that sports a first set that’s even more powerful with new arrangements of “Wang Dang Doodle” and “Friend of the Devil” benefitting two-keyboardist set up and a “Let it Grow” that allows the complexity of one of Weir’s most-intricate compositions to shine.

That was a long, strange trip back through time. And, post-1995, there’s nothing like a Grateful Dead Meet-up at the Movies.

The concert will screen one time more, on June 24. You might as well, might as well.

KENNETH COPELAND MESSAGE FOR TODAY

“Well, brother, in the end I’m sure you’ll see these financial problems are actually a blessing in disguise.” Have you ever heard anybody say that to someone who’s hurting financially? Chances are, you have. It’s a popular idea. The problem is, it’s a lie used by the devil to keep believers down. As a result, many believers today are suffering one financial defeat after another. So let’s go to the Word of God today and get the issue of prosperity and poverty straight. Let’s find out, once and for all, which is the blessing, which the curse. You can find the answer to that question in Deuteronomy 28. What God describes in verses 1 through 14 is the blessing—prosperity. In verses 15 through 31, God describes poverty—and He has called it a curse. The curse is meant to destroy. Not to teach people a lesson. Not to make them more spiritual. But to destroy them. Regardless of how intense the lack is, the nature of poverty remains the same. It is, and will always be, a curse. Satan has gone to great lengths to convince God’s people that poverty is a blessing in disguise. But poverty is something the devil contrived! Don’t buy into his lies. Five Ways Corporations are Literally the Devil

The incorrect use of the word literally in the title is intentional, for ironic effect, to indicate that this piece is not serious analysis. It is an analogy that tries to make a few decent points about what corporations are and what they do.

I think corporations are not good. Or at least, I think they don’t need to be as bad as they are. I make no bones about that. I understand why corporations "exist", and the value they supposedly add to our society, but I also know that they are the concoction of a privileged elite who have always shown that they value wealth over everything else, and whose primary concern is the protection of their property.

I’m both fascinated and infuriated by the idea of the corporation.

One more thing before I present the list. This is not a debate on the existence of a god. That is not the point. When I write about the devil, I'm using Christianity as my source, because that is where I came to know the subject.

Having lined ourselves up on all of that, let’s get on with it.

They are Both Fictions

In law, a fiction is a thing that doesn't exist, but for practical purposes need to be treated as if it does. A court of law cannot outright dispute the existence of either a corporation, or the devil, in the dispatching of its duty.

Just as business law wouldn’t make any sense without the fiction of a corporation, neither would the concept of sin in Christianity without the devil. In this way, they serve a similar purpose.

They are Both Evil

The whole idea of evil is deep and wide. For the sake of economy, in this comparison let’s agree that ‘evil’ is a thing, and that religion is the basis for most people’s understanding of it. “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil” --1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV) Corporations have the single overarching purpose of producing profit. Any purpose a for-profit corporation may claim is subordinate to their primary mission to produce profit, and to grow that profit over time.

If the only aim of a corporation is to create wealth, and the desire to accumulate wealth is evil, then how can a for-profit corporation be anything but evil?

They Both Lie

The devil’s deceptive nature is well-expressed in religious text. I identified more than fifty verses that referenced directly or inferred that The devil is a charlatan. Not just a liar, but one who appears to be one thing while bearing intentions that are totally different. “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” --2 Corinthians 11:14

Corporations wouldn’t deliberately lie, would they?

“If [cigarettes] are behaviorally addictive or habit forming, they are much more like … Gummi Bears, and I eat Gummi Bears, and I don’t like it when I don’t eat my Gummi Bears, but I’m certainly not addicted to them.” --James J. Morgan, President, Phillip Morris Tobacco Company, under oath, 1987

Does anyone buy the idea that in anyone who wasn’t living under a rock in 1987 didn’t know intuitively that cigarettes are addictive? So, what else can we call the statement above but a lie? Though I’m glossing over this item for brevity, it’s not a minor point. Lying is not only something corporations do, it can be said that manipulating the truth is one of the things corporations do best.

They are Both Scapegoats

Who hasn’t heard the old phrase “The devil made me do it”? In Christianity, The devil still gets the blame for making people sin. There is a nearly religious reverence for corporations, which includes a tacit approval of their means and motives. People have no problem, it seems, accepting that they should not expect corporations to do good things, or for that matter, to even care much about the negative impacts of what they do to generate their profits, right up to putting at risk the health and safety of their workers, or even the public.

Put another way, corporations get away with things people couldn’t. Things a person might expect from another person; respect for their privacy, their safety, etc., they do not expect from a corporation.

We accept that corporations are apex predators like a sharks. We are saddened but not shocked by news of a shark attack, but never blame the shark. It’s only doing what sharks do.

They are Both Immortal

The Devil is immortal according to official sources. A supernatural being. That’s pretty cut and dried.

Corporations are immortal because the law says so. States may have their own rules regarding how often a corporation’s registration needs to be updated, but for the most part a corporation, once ‘born’, will live until its owners decide it is no longer useful.

Corporations are immune to disease. They cannot be killed in a natural disaster or an automobile accident, or even old age. You’ve probably done business, as a customer, with one or two of our country’s oldest corporations; Dupont was established in 1802, making it 220 years old.

So, Basically the Devil, then, Right?

I have confessed my morbid fascination for the phenomenon of the corporation, and the strange loyalty they create in the mind of ordinary people, particularly those who are motivated to defend their country’s continuing dedication to unconstrained capitalism.

Though the corporations are entirely the creation of people; their decisions made by people, their risks calculated by people, and their profits ultimately collected by people, the investor can rest comfortably, one degree separated from any harm resulting from the creation of the profits they enjoy, by their wonderful friend the corporation.

As the last verse or two of the song plays, the manor appears in our view. Holy crap! That's not a manor, that's a mini castle!

"Nadia! What website did you find this on?"

"Technically it was Jeremy that found it."

"Okay, what website did he find it on and how did he find it?"

"Technically, Jeremy didn't find the manor. The manor found him."

"Excuse me? How did the Manor find him?"

"I dunno, but somehow the Manor found him." Oh my God, there is a good chance we may die here. I got to stop watching True Crime. The driver stops the car and helps us get our stuff out. I try to a picture of the license plate when I bumped into someone behind me.

"Oh, sorry Sir!"

"You really need to watch where you're going." Asshole!

"Sorry, didn't even though you were behind me. You don't need to be rude about."

"Ma'am--"

"Renfield, be nicer to our guests." I look over at the people walking towards us. I'm going to assume that's our hosts. I see the dark-haired woman walk towards me. I put my phone in my purse to hold my hand to shake hers.

"Hi, you're Viktoria Deville?"

"Why, yes I am."

"I'm Kassandra Larson. The two that are dancing like lunatics are Shannon Fuller and Nadia Larson, and the girl that needs to get off her phone for ten minutes is Sienna Fuller." We stop shaking hands.

"Ah, Kassandra. The one who's been Mr. Brooding for the past month is my little brother, Walter." I shake his hand. Wow, really strong grip. Grandpa would be proud. Although he has a firm grip, there's something off about him. I mean there's something off about all three of them but, he's making me really wonder if we should just go back home now. He doesn't seem like a bad guy but, there's a reason why the term, Devil in disguise exists. I stop shaking his hand.

"And the Pomeranian is our baby sister, Lucy." I end up getting hugged by her.

"Wow, you give really tight hugs. You would get well with my Uncle Rhett." The woman known as Lucy stops hugging me when she gets pulled off by her siblings. So, Viktoria is the oldest, Mr. Deville's the middle, and Lucy's the baby. Interesting.

"Thank you for understanding when we had to change the reservation three weeks ago."

"Not a problem. I'm sorry about your cousin's situation."

"Thank you, I mean." I kinda look at Nadia while talking to Viktoria.

"She was with him for 2 years and she did really love him. She seems to be getting over him, but it will take a while." I notice Mr. Deville's expression towards Nadia.

Viktoria

I also notice that Kassandra seems to be very wary about Walter. As much as I love my brother, I wouldn't blame her. Especially since I can now tell that Mr. "Can't keep it in his pants" is out and Mr. Brooding is gone for now.

"I see. Reinfeld, will you escort our guests to their rooms? So they can unpack before Supper."

"Of course, Madam Deville."

Nuptials of Blood, Chapter 1

"Miss. Larson, we liked your manuscript but,the events in your memoir seem all too fictional to be real." Fictional? FICTIONAL! Please, I wish it was all just fiction. My family is as messed up as it is written in my memoir, but whatever, I guess. I toss my original copy of my manuscript onto the front passenger seat of my car. 10th publisher that has rejected my book. I open my glove box and pull out one of my many packs of gum. I open the pack I grabbed and grab a stick of gum. I put the pack back and close the glove box. I unwrap the stick and stick it in my mouth. I begin to chew it furiously. I hear my phone buzz. I grab my purse and dig through it to find my phone. When I find my phone, I see a notification from Instagram. I open it and see it's an instant message from a user called Greek Warrior?

Greek Warrior: Hey Cutie 😘 Ugh. It's from Andrew, my ex.

"We broke up two years ago, Andrew! Move on!" I toss my phone back into my purse and turn the car on. Andrew and I broke up due to personal reasons, mainly because I thought he might have been cheating on me but I can't prove whether or not he was cheating. After we broke up, I started to work on my memoir that I'm having a hard time finding a publisher that’s willing to publish it. I've been on the journey to get this publish for at least over a year now. Took me a year to write it and now it's taken me a year so far to get it publish. I pull out of the parking spot and out of the parking lot. I hear my phone buzz a lot but, can't look at my phone right now, I'm driving. While driving home, I see a billboard for an upcoming rom-com. Another cheesy romance movie...Maybe I've been single for too long. Haven't really dated anyone since Andrew. Maybe I can find a date for Nadia's wedding? How am I going to find a date in three weeks?

After a few red lights, I finally pull into the parking lot of the apartment that I currently share with Shannon and Sienna. I moved out of my parents house when I was 22 after I graduated college with my English degree. That was 4 years ago which means that I'm currently 26. I had originally bought the apartment for myself but, a year into me living there, Shannon and Nadia moved in with me much to my Aunt Felicia and Uncle Knox's forced advice. So, Shannon's been living here for 3 years and Nadia moved out a year ago to live with her soon to be husband. Shannon's a 25 year old freelance animator while Nadia's a 25 year preschool teacher. Shannon got their degree in art and went to art school while Nadia got her degree in education and early childhood studies. Sienna moved in 2 years ago, shortly before I broke up with Andrew and after we met Nadia's soon to be husband, Jeremy. My aunt Felicia bribed me to let her move in with me. Sienna is a 23 year old professional cheerleader for one of the minor league football teams. Sienna, I guess, went to college. Her major I believe is still along with what she does for a job currently. I love Sienna dearly, but I do tend to tune her out a lot. While I'm trying to find a spot, I see Nadia's car? Why is she here at 10:30 at night? I thought she would be at home with Jeremy. I finally pull into a spot, turn off my car, take off my seatbelt, grab my stuff, and get out of my car. I walk over to my apartment building, unlocking it so I can get in. I walk up the stairs to the 3rd floor and walk to apartment 3D. I unlock the door and walk in.

"Hey guys, I'm home." I put my stuff down and why do I see Nadia's stuff here? I look up and see Nadia crying on Shannon's shoulder. I put my stuff and walk over to the couch where they're sitting. Sienna's busy doing something on her phone, as usual.

"Nadia? What's wrong? Why are you here at almost 10:40 at night? Shouldn't you be at home with Jeremy?" Nadia breaks out into a loud sob before she answers my questions.

"WE BROKE UP!"

"You what now?"

I've been trying to find Nadia all over the estate and so far, I can't find her. I'm guess she might be in her room. I open the door without knocking because what I need to discuss with her is very important.

"Nadia, there's something important we need to discuss..." I just walked in on Kassandra being nude.

"Nadia, what have I told you about —KNOCKING!" Kassandra covers herself with the towel. Because of what I have seen, I have already forgotten why I even came in here.

Viktoria

"Nadia, what have I told you about — KNOCKING!" And he did it again. Great. I put my book down and stand up.

"Lucy!"

"Yea?"

"Come along."

"He did it again?"

"Yes, he did it again." I head for the Larson's room with Lucy right behind me.

Kasey

Oh shit, I just flashed Mr. Deville! Great. Flashing one of our hosts was the last thing I wanted to do this week. I'm already red from embarrassment.

"Mr. Deville, why are you in here? Besides this is your home but, still. Why are you in here?"

"I uh, uh." Has he always have fangs since we've met him? Because I don't remember seeing those on the first day we got here. I make the mistake of looking down and well, we don't have to figure out if he's a biological guy or not. Even though that was never a worry since I don't think any of us were planning on sleeping with him. Lucy and Viktoria come running in.

Viktoria

Lucy and I come running in. I see that we're too late. Walter is already mentally gone.

"I'm sorry about him. He does have manners but, tends to not use them."

"Quick question, do all three of you have fangs?" And Walter just almost outed that we're vampires. Okay, need to think of a quick lie which I know of one I can use.

"Yes, it's hereditary. We come from a long line of-"

"Canines." Really, Lucy!

"We're not dogs. Great Grandpa was not a dog. There were rumors about him having relations with a dog but, he was not a dog."

"Wasn't he also accused of having relations with some one who acted like a-" I cover Lucy's mouth with my hand, mainly because I know what she was going to say.

"Yes, he was. But, even then that person wasn't a dog." I uncover my hand from Lucy's mouth and make the mistake of looking down at my brother. Well, we know what sex of the human species he prefers and that part of him isn't dead.

"We're sorry about him and we will going now." I grab Walter by his shoulder and just start dragging him with Lucy trailing behind.

Kasey

Viktoria, Lucy, and horny Mr. Deville leave the room. Lucy closes the door behind her. I lock the door. Don't want to take a chance that Nadia or the others aren't going to barge while I'm not decent. I take off the towel, change into the clothes that I grabbed from my bag, hang up the towel, unlock the door, walk out of the room, and close the door behind me.

Viktoria

I don't stop dragging my brother along until we get to his room.

eudora was, in many ways, the spark that rekindled her soul, the sunshine of the perpetual dawn within, the one that made it safe for miya to breathe anew. without her, it all felt extinguished and the days, what was left from that meaningless space, were no more measurable — for the world seemed no longer in the updrafts that were created for one another, the spiral heavenward that could only exist when the princess was felt close to her. the light was cast upon her countenance almost proposedly, coming from the window that was prone to be left open for her imminent arrival. they had grown to accommodate each other's needs and hectic schedules, daring not to ever cause trouble when their lives were completely different. albeit their diversities were oftentimes the reason to terminate their relationship, they had managed to battle them without losing hope, strength and sheer determination. for that, miya was eternally in debt to her.

If I Created a Scooby-Doo Series

Since I doubt I would ever be presented with an opportunity to pitch a Scooby-Doo series to Warner Bros themselves, I might as well share my thoughts online for how I would rework the classic characters into a new team dynamic. For me, there are two issues with Scooby-Doo I'm looking to address:

1. Velma stops carrying the team. By giving everyone a niche talent or expertise, they feel more like a team working together, instead of Velma pulling all the weight on a group assignment with her friends.

2. Why does everyone want to be in a mystery solving club? The origin of their friendship interests me.

Fred Jones

I imagine Fred in my version as the son of a detective, either PI or police. That parent is dead, leaving Fred with a single parent and wanting to live up to his dead parent's legacy by becoming a detective or forensics investigator. Obviously, the skills he would bring would include criminal profiling, procedural knowledge, and possibly laws. Plus his traps, of course. It's his area to figure out suspects and their motives. He started Mystery Inc as a one-man operation. He pulled in Velma due to her knowledge of chemistry making her ideal for analyzing clues and data. He may know about forensics, but Velma actually knows how to do it.

Velma Dinkley

Velma is the egghead researcher and preppy student government member brought into the club in the first episode when Fred asks her to analyze the clue he discovered. Fascinated by riddles, puzzles, and secrets, Velma is persuaded to help by means of appealing to her curiosity and scientific mind. She primarily handles chemistry, physics, and robotics. She analyzes the clues mostly, and is great at connecting the dots.

Daphne Blake

The Daphne of my series would be a theater kid through and through, as well as a gymnast, cheerleader, and most importantly, a reporter for the school newspaper. She falls into the first mystery while sleuthing for a scoop for her column and agrees to help the gang so she can report their activities. Her background in theater means she's well versed in make-up, costuming, and special effects, and figures out how the monster is pulling off their disguise. She also serves as the face, managing their social media presence, website, image, and whatever else.

Shaggy and Scooby

Covering the last two together, Shaggy would change the most, becoming a paranoid conspiracy theorist hacker, allowing him to serve a non combat role. Shaggy's obsession with cover-ups and conspiracies makes him interested in the mysteries, even if he is afraid of the monsters. His role in the group, aside from being the hacker, is that he would know the lore of whatever supernatural creature the criminal was using. So, if a criminal posed as the Jersey Devil, Shaggy would be the one to explain the monster. He would also catch on if the monster does things that break the lore, such as a fairy touching iron or the headless horseman crossing running water. In a way, unmasking the fakes is also somewhat therapeutic for him. Shaggy in my mind has some health condition, and Scooby is his service dog, especially since large dogs like Great Danes are good support breeds. Shaggy joins the party either because he was investigating an unrelated paranormal sighting, or because the gang needed to hack into security cameras, and came to Shaggy.

In terms of identity and tone, I'd angle more for the Mystery Incorporated era, when character, lore, and an ongoing mystery breathed new life into the franchise. I liked the darker and more mature viewpoint, and would want to revive it in my own version. Especially in the age of streaming, a serialized Scooby-Doo is more likely to work than it did as a commercial tv show on broadcast television.

Hello! Sorry if this is a really silly ask but what does it mean about Satan using bible verses? I’m pretty new to Christianity and also I’m very very tired rn so I’m probably overthinking this but 😅

No such thing as a silly question when you’re genuinely striving for knowledge! I welcome any questions you may have!

It means that people can take scripture and try to twist it to follow their own wicked ways. They take the text and make it mean what they want it to mean instead of what it actually means.

During his life, Jesus went to the wilderness for forty days where he was tempted by the devil. The devil took scripture from the Old Testament and quoted it back to Jesus while trying to tempt him. The devil obviously was abusing and twisting Scripture to do this. You can read about it in Matthew 4 and Luke 4!

It is important to learn and understand Scripture simply to learn more about God and His will for us and to continue growing, and also to avoid being led astray, especially by false teachers who might twist scripture for their own narrative, which the Bible warns us about this many times (2 Peter 2:1, 2 Timothy 4:3-4, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 to name a few) and here I would like to highlight Matthew 7:15:

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

I also want to highlight 2 Corinthians 11:14:

And no wonder! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

So stay in prayer. Stay in Scripture. Stay in Christ. He will guide you and hold you. And you will continue to learn and become more steadily grounded in Truth as you grow in your faith.

1 John 4:1 — Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world

2 Timothy 3:16-17 — All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

Later, when asked, he didn’t know what went wrong when. Perhaps their whole mission had – perhaps their luck was simply terrible. After all, the other teams had managed to successfully complete their tasks. It was only him – him and Conan and the FBI agents along with them – that received the short end of the stick.

Kaito had been on a deck, when it happened. He’d been next to a railing over looking the sea, trying to eavesdrop upon a conversation between two scientists he’d placed a bug on. Perhaps that was why he’d survived.

Perhaps that was why he’d survived, when the others hadn’t.

Summary:

Kaito had never planned on becoming a thief, especially not an infamous, international, world-renowned phantom thief. He’d not planned on accidentally revealing his identity to a detective either; the most dangerous detective of all, in a way – Edogawa Conan. Strangely, it doesn’t turn out as bad as Kaito would have thought. But at this point, he’d take what he got, no complaints.

One can’t expect Kaito to go from playing class jester to first-class thieving outlaw in the blink of an eye, can they? So, yes, he made a mistake – a fatal error. And now he’s stuck as Tantei-kun’s handy-man, knee-deep in a case more dangerous than his own.

Whoever called that kid cute and adorable should choke and shrivel and die, because the four-eyed brat was a devil in disguise. With a weirdly passionate heart. Huh. As if there wasn’t enough weirdness in his life already.

“And?” Kang Yohan asks, his expression a bit amused, “Did you see anything else?”

A black car, speeding side by side— a hammer, coming down on the yellow hood of the car— two alphas, readying for a fight—

Gaon shakes his head, mute.

Chief Kang smirks, “Thank you for the offer, Judge Kim.” The man spreads an arm wide and shrugs, “But alas, you have no proof.”

“Kim Gaon— Gaon, what is it?” Kang Yohan asks, voice low and urgent, “What do you want?”

Gaon doesn’t understand the question. Isn’t it clear enough what he wants? He bucks up a little, dragging his body closer to Kang Yohan’s. His skin is covered with a fine layer of perspiration and it contrasts with how hot he is feeling. Kang Yohan’s hand moves from his forehead to his hair— oh, smoothing it back, he is smoothing it back. Gaon nudges into it, lost into the sensation.

“Gaon?” the voice asks again, dragging his attention back, “Tell me.”

“I need,” he rasps finally, “I need you.”

Hi! I'm real ignorant so if this is a dumb question feel free to ignore this. But I just found out that the Catholic Bible has 7 more books than the Protestant one? (I was raised Methodist so this was a big shock to me) And I was just wondering what those 7 books are? Where they are and what they're about and stuff. Thanks!

Well, yeah. There are seven more books, and the reasons behind why this is is complicated from a theology/archeology perspective, but simple from a historical perspective (Martin Luther revived fourth century discourse). In addition, Daniel and Esther are longer in the Catholic Bible compared to the Protestant Bible. I'm gonna run through each book with a little bit of what it is.

Tobit: the first of the novellas. Our main man, Tobit, is a holy man who undergoes many trials at the beginning, culminating in him being blinded. After this, his son, Tobias, gets sent off to retrieve some money from Media that Tobit remembered. Hes accompanied by the archangel Raphel, in disguise as a man. Meanwhile in Media, a young woman, Sarah, has just had her seventh would be husband die on her. She has a demon thing going on, where the demon will kill anyone who tries to marry her. Tobit and Raphael, after some fishing shenanigans in which various fish parts are acquired, arrive on the scene. Raphel, literal wingman, tells Tobias "Dude, you could totally marry Sarah, who is totally awesome. I'm gonna set you up and everything!" And Tobias says "Dude, the demon thing already killed seven men. I would prefer not to" Raphel: "She will please your dad. You can use some of the fish guts to drive away the demon by burning them, since they're rank. Then pray to God. You got this." Fish guts are burned, prayer is offered to God, and the happy couple is finally wed. Meanwhile, Sarah's dad got the rest of the household to dig a grave for Tobias, so that's quickly filled in. Then Sarah, Tobias, and Raphel go home, the remaining fish guts are used to restore Tobit's sight, Raphel gives some advice and then reveals himself to be an angel, and leaves. Tobit is happy and dies in peace. Tobias dies of old age in the epilogue. This story is referenced in the Gospels, when the Sadduces approach Jesus and ask him about a woman who has been married seven times, and all her husbands died.

Judith: another one of the novellas, our main hero is Judith, a Jewish widow. At the beginning theres a long war campaign sum up, which basically amounts to Holofernes is the toughest dude around. He eventually wages war against Israel. The end result is the Israelites are surrounded. The Israelites are surrounded, and Judith says "1. God will deliver us, 2. Let me and my maid go through the city, and God will deliver Israel through me" Judith prays, heads out, and manages to get an audience with Holofernes (she is a very pretty lady). She talks with Holofernes, and in her monologue uses a lot of wriggly ambiguous language, so Holofernes thinks she is talking about Nebecennezzer when she is talking about God. Holofernes is pleased by this, so he invites Judith to dinner. Judith then beheads Holofernes, and takes his head and goes back home. Judith shows his head, comes up with a good battle plan, the enemies are destroyed, and the Israelites celebrate.

1 Macabees: an independent account of the attempted suppression of Judaism in the second century BC (175-134 BC). The main character is Judas, son of Mattias, head of the revolution. It is classified as a novella.

2 Macabees: Covers the same rebellion, from 180-161 BC. Much like the Gospels tell the same story different ways, 1 and 2 Macabees tell the same historical events from different perspectives. It is also classified as a novella.

Wisdom: written in 50 BC, it's a poetic exhortation to live a holy life. Its classified as a book of Wisdom/poetry. Some of the language in Wisdom is echoed in the New Testament. Wisdom 2:24 "but by the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they who are allied with him experience it" mirrors Paul's "sin entered the world, and death through sin"

Ben Sira: another book of wisdom, Ben Sira is another exhortation to live a holy life. Most of the book is moral instruction, but the last bit is about the heroes of Israel, gratitude to God, and an invitation for the unschooled to find true wisdom.

Baruch: a book of prophecy, its addressed to King Jechoniah (in Babylon). It can be divided into four parts: 1. The Letter to Jerusalem, filling in on the history, and guilt/deliverance, 2. Praise of Wisdom, 3. Baruch's poem of consolation, 4. Letter of Jeremiah, which is "don't worship Babylonian gods". John Calvin thought that Baruch should be in the Protestant Bible instead of Esther

And, since I think it's important since the books differ:

Esther: first off, its classified as a novella. It's an entirely different read in the Catholic bible, beginning with Mordecai's dream and an assasination attempt on the king. Then the banquet and deposition of Vashti. From there it follows roughly the same plot, but also contains prayers of Mordecai and Esther, official documents, etc. God is mentioned a lot in the Catholic version compared to the Protestant version.

Daniel: Chapter 3 has an awesome prayer in it, spanning from verse 24 to verse 90. It is very long, and a good read if you have the time. Daniel 13 and 14 have two short stories in them to cap off the book. The first is of Susana, who had two elders attempt to assault her. In retaliation, the elders falsely accuse Susanna of trying to seduce them. Susanna asks God to intervene, and a boy Daniel reveals the lie. The two elders are then killed. The second one is Bel and the Dragon, wherein one Daniel calls out the king for worshipping Bel, a false idol. The king says "no, he clearly eats and drinks the sacrifices I lay out for him" Daniel says "you're wrong" and the king says "prove it, or you'll die." So the king offered his sacrifices, and Daniel had ashes spread across the room, before it was sealed. Turns out, the priests of Bel would sneak into the chamber through a secret entrance and eat everything, which was proved by the footprints left by the ashes. The priests revealed this, and then they were killed. Then there was a dragon the Babylonians worshipped, and Daniel killed with some pitch, fat, and hair cakes (after getting permission from the king). From here Daniel gets thrown into the lion's den, Habbakkuk brings him a meal, and Daniel is brought out alive. The people who tried to kill him are then thrown into the lion's den.

For students of literature at least, opening a book to find the margins covered in a proliferation of ink notes with salient passages underlined with an indelible pen can be an infuriating thing. But for some it depends whose writing in the margins and what insights they have jotted down in the margins.

In the 19th century such ‘marginalia’ was considered an important form of literary expression and a route to understanding literary works and sharing views about them. And when the marginalia is by the hand of a great poet like John Keats and the book in question is John Keats’ treasured copy of John Milton’s Paradise Lost, the sins are forgiven and it becomes a different matter altogether.

Keats House is where the poet John Keats (1795-1821) lived from 1818 to 1820. Here he wrote some of his best known poetry, including "Ode to a Nightingale". The house is a Grade 1 listed building set in a peaceful garden in Hampstead. Keats House put on an exhibition showing off Keats’ copy of Milton’s Paradise Lost in 2019. I was fortunate to go and visit it and was thoroughly impressed.

The exhibition examined Keats’s notes to reveal patterns of thought, influential subjects and imagery which can be detected in these and other works.

Born in London in 1795, John Keats was orphaned young and, after leaving school at 14, trained as an apothecary surgeon. Though not wealthy, he gave up medicine to dedicate his life to poetry. His first sonnets appeared in 1816 and his first book of poems followed a year later. Unkind critics, the loss of his brothers and his frustrated love for Fanny Brawne were the painful background to his creativity and the outpouring of poetry he produced in 1819 is said to be among the finest in the English language. In early 1820, Keats had shown signs of consumption, and died in Rome a year later, at just 25 years old, leaving behind some of the most famous and loved poems in the English language.

The leather-bound copy of Paradise Lost owned by Keats was published in 1807 in two volumes by booksellers W. and J. Deas and it is believed Keats read the poem with his friend and neighbour Charles Wentworth Dilke. When he left London for Rome, Keats gave both volumes to Mrs Dilke and they remained with her family before being part of its eventual bequest to Keats House. And it is a treasure to behold for it stitches together the story of how some of the greatest poets Britain has ever produced related to one another in thoughtful reflection of each other’s works.

For Keats’ generation only Spenser and Shakespeare could rival Milton as ‘precursor poets’ for the English Romantics. Paradise lost was a kind of Bible to the Romantics and that most romantic of them, Keats, made no disguise of his love of the poem, riddling his copy with clues, thoughts, emotional reactions and evidence of Milton’s influence on his work. And like reading and revering the Bible, the Romantics ultimate relationship with Milton was most fraught with ideological and other tensions. From Blake’s assertion that Milton was ‘of the devil’s party without knowing it,’ to Shelley’s musings on the ‘strange and natural antithesis’ by which Milton’s poem had become an ideological prop to Church and State conservatives. So for the Romantics the relationship with Milton is arguably the most interesting,

Keats’ extensive notes in his well-thumbed copy of the great epic poem reveal an intense study of Milton at a time of his life and career when the young poet was particularly receptive to learning from the finest of their craft. Specifically, Keats is drawn to themes of loss, suffering and mortality. He highlights Eve’s sadness when leaving Paradise and notes passages about separation from loved ones – a dominant feature in Keats’s own life.

On the pages of his copy of Paradise Lost, Keats writes, “Milton in every instance pursues his imagination to the utmost…he sees Beauty on the wing, pounces upon it and gorges it to the producing his essential verse…” Elsewhere he gushes with the enthusiasm of the literature undergraduate. “The light and shade – the sort of black brightness…the thousand melancholies and Magnificences of this Page – leaves no room for anything to be said theron, but : ‘so it is’-.”

Keats seems to have absorbed some of Milton’s poetry as pure nourishment for his own work. Indeed the impact of Milton’s dense visual and rich sensuous imagery is evident in Keats’s own epic poems, Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion. But he also felt other aspects of the influence as a severe irritant to his identity as poet. Critics have concentrated on the period in 1819 when Keats experienced Milton’s influence as an “anxiety,” when, frustrated with the unfinished Hyperion, he wrote to his brother, “Life to him would be death to me”.

But I strongly suspect that such critics are reading too much into it. Keats had nothing but admiration for Milton but he recognised too they were both very different kind of poets. In several letters to friends, Keats certainly alludes to Milton a lot. In these private letters one can see Keats’s intelligence as he explores his identification with Milton, and creates the detachment he needed from certain aspects of Milton’s personality and work.

Keats did not adopt a single attitude to Milton and hold it. It’s surely more fair to conclude that Keats’ response to Milton changed as his concerns as poet and moral thinker changed.

Keats was more of an empiricist in his moral thought than Milton. His famous touchstone for the truth — to feel things on his pulses before judging them — was a consistent method. But, while remaining more empirical than Milton as a moralist, Keats saw Milton as his master in the expression of the sensuous imagination. In the end, Keats and the other English Romantic poets made themselves unruly disciples of Milton, self-consciously reading their master’s epic against the grain.
