Hanging out with Haruka time! I love her so much!!
Hanging out with Haruka is always a highlight in this games, I don't trust anyone who doesn't like this mechanic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like look at her! She's my baby I'll do anything for her! (except playing mahjong, sorry but learning how golf was enough. I feel like a middle aged rich man)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's actually better at bowling than Nishiki lol (let's be honest, anyone is). Can you imagine Kiryu taking 8 kids bowling? I definitely can, what a chaotic night. Throw Daigo and Majima in there and you can call it family night <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why are you scared? I did it first try!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This girl is developing a gambling problem and Kiryu doesn't have enough functioning neurons to realize it. He probably thinks it's normal because of his life, even though I don't think he's that much of a gambler.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quite embarrassing but I had to get the keys that I was missing... Obviously they were the ones in adult places ugh I'm sorry you had to see Kiryu walking into that DVD store Haruka!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love them so so much! They are both very caring yet both refuse to ask for help until it is completely necessary. This game has a lot of that "I MUST do this alone" Kiryu mentality. I'm not a big fan (neither was majima or date or rikiya or nakahara or any of the children in morning glory or…)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh no she's caching Kiryu's furrow. I think they look kind of similar here, that's cute. Kiryu is ready to break legs and crack some skulls and so am I lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Such a good dad :(((
Tumblr media
Let me add a few things here from substories (I'm sick of that couple)
Tumblr media
They looove a good gossip they are so funny. Again, very similar reaction, cute.
Tumblr media
The way he looks at her!!! I've been using the word love a lot but he really really loves her so so much. She's his light, his reason to live… well maybe not that, Kiryu is pretty self destructing, let's be honest.
She's the reason he keeps trying and that's enough for now
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yakuza 3 has changed my life forever, byeee
Anyway, I adore their relationship, can't wait to see them in the next game <3 At the same time, haruka's growing up so fast… make it stop please :'((

Yeah. It’s a bit of an interesting part of his character when you stand back and try to unravel it. But hitting women is a quick way to turn a character unlikeable.
Before getting into this series, I was not expecting well… any of this. I was genuinely believing it was going to be the same as other masculine media that seeks to uphold that very masculinity in very off putting ways. The kind where every guy is obnoxiously straight. Really took me by surprise to see Kiryu who’s crazy about toy cars, Yokoyama depicts him as a virgin, he lacks social skills (me too, king) and he’s still really cool. Majima is uh, everything about him. Ichiban needs no explanation. And Shinada is a sexual character who sometimes says something kind of perverted, yet hes got a lot of depth, a real golden retriever attitude, and has a lot of kind things to say about sex workers. Normally, I can’t stand the lovable pervert trope, but Shinada feels so different from that. I could stand here all month talking about just the surprising characters. The homoerotic subtext is something else 😭
I suppose I’ll be looking forward to the potential ask lmao. But it’s crazy how personally Mine took the stuff that happened when he went out with Daigo. Oh boy, I’ve made a few jokes about Nick and Daigo, but I’m wondering what you’ll have to say about them.
Wooooow. I noticed the pretty boy features, but didn’t know there were that many. The Dead Souls one sticks out to me a lot. Starting to really wonder if Yokoyama has a subconscious thing for GNC men. Do you have a picture of that man, btw?
I remember making a joke about Hayashi (while we were looking at the original Ishin) being a fruit to my friend and cousin which mortified them because it’s Hayashi. When I learned they switched it to Awano I was shell shocked and still kind of am💀
Baba and Zhao in that role really says a lot of course. Especially given how they already are in their own respective games. There’s some questionable behavior like Zhao’s excitement to see Ichiban nude if you choose that along with implying he’d want to get naked with him. A lot of things really, but there’s also an odd line from Baba and Zhao (although in his case it was being said about him) using the same word: horete. I only recently learned what that word can mean, and I’m still really curious about it and the scenes themselves. Seong-hui telling Ichiban that at the last minute just made me wonder “Why???” Baba though…
Japan liking 5 a lot makes sense. I remember seeing a popularity poll from around that time. The placements were pretty shocking.
Me neither! But I think that's one of the reasons I ended up giving the series a chance, because I'd read an article about how the series subverts traditional masculinity and that was one of the first things to get me interested.
I think before that I'd expressed that I was adamant about not getting into it, but I honestly have no memory of that, I just take my friend's word for it lol. Of course, there are also ways the series upholds traditional masculinity, but the characters are overall super refreshing.
With Shinada and Ichi, I especially love how those themes started to be explored in Y5 and were followed up in Y7 with Yokoyama having more to say and a better grasp on what he wanted to say. Of course, all of the protagonists (and even some other characters) have influenced Ichi's character in some way, but I was a fan of how big of a piece of the pie Shinada seems to have since we have yet to see him since.
And yeah! I don't think there's too much to conclusively say about Nick and Daigo, it's all the implication, but it's fun to connect the dots. Because I generally feel like the Champion District is a mix of Golden Gai and "Nicho," Shinjuku's hub of gay subculture.
At least that's the impression I get from the cluster of Bars Of A Certain Variety in the Champion District; I feel like if you're a regular there despite it being a "bad neighborhood," that probably says something about you. And of course Nick frequents Earth Angel, but Mine and Daigo's favorite bar is also located in the Champion District.
Well, of course some of Yokoyama's comments raise eyebrows, but in complete fairness he had basically nothing to do with the development of Dead Souls and I don't want to speculate too much. I'm a little split on DD as a character, but I'm trying to keep this "short" since I have a stream to get to, so here's DD and his actor Peter/Shinnosuke Ikehata (honestly slay):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arguabiy Hayashi's always been like that too haha, but he and Awano definitely were Choices. Someone has to play Takeda though, right? I think all three make for entertaining villains at the very least, so they fit well in that regard.
Baba I honestly don't remember too well (though I remember him fondly!), because I missed Saejima's part in my friend's playthrough of Y5R when it came out and haven't gotten there myself, but of course when you have a bond like that it's noteworthy.
Zhao, on the other hand, I kind of honed in on him immediately even when Y7 was only out in Japanese, for sure. Since Ichi is pretty much canonically into men their interactions were a lot of fun to watch. Seong-hui does a fair amount of hinting, not just with Zhao but also the Florence Nightingale comparison with Nanba, right? But I think it's natural, because queer people somehow just find each other.
The usage of horeru I generally don't put too much stock into, at least by itself, though. I'd need to go back over the scenes to be sure, but usually when it means something, there are other clear indicators or it's worded in a really intense way.
Because I did go and compile a number of usages of the word by itself when KHHSubs found my post, and more often than not it wasn't romantic or anything by itself, and in some cases it would've been kind of alarming if it were. So a huge point in my updated post ended up being that it's never just the word by itself for Mine.

@sixthxchairman . from here
The former yakuza was right - the moment that his name flashed on Akiyama’s cellphone screen, he was in the middle of the Champion District, on a collection run of his own. After all, most of Sky Finance’s clients who owned business in Kamurocho operated during unorthodox hours as part of the industry they were inserted in; working a normal 9-5 job would get the loan shark nowhere with that clientele.
Besides, it did give him a chance to see things as they normally were - with the neon lights, the bustle of the crowd, the unexpected scenes that only the truly inebriated provided at such odd times of the night. But when Daigo called, all he did was to pick up the call and try to put some distance between the last bar with loud karaoke and himself, listening to the man on the other side of the line and getting progressively... Entertained.
No one called another person at 1:42 in the morning for casual catch-up - and if it wasn’t a medical emergency either, then very few options remained on the table. As Akiyama walked through the small maze of the district and went further north, emerging in less crowded streets, he was outright grinning into his phone even if no one around paid him a moment of their time. It had been more instinct than the sudden change in Daigo’s breathing tone - but he teased the older male in relation to his true reasons for the call... And got exactly what he wanted.
Jackpot.
Akiyama hadn’t been much of a gambling man (well, to the extent his days working with the stock market were disregarded), but the pleasure rush of landing a right bet was thrilling. In a sense, he supposed that was what they had been doing for the better part of the last year - betting on each other; assuming that the complications, fears and reservations they had carried through most of their adult lives were not worth of giving up the prize looming on the horizon if they just went for it.
Risk and reward - Akiyama Shun had never really cared much for routine and boredom. Compared to certain people like Kiryu, he was the epitome of steady and easy; but when juxtaposed to a man like Daigo Dojima, he just inherently assumed the role of an agent of chaos. Which was why, against all odds, he was now inside a taxi, muting his call whenever he needed to give the driver instructions in relation to their destination.
“Yeah, I get that - money troubles will keep you awake at night, I hear that from my clients all the time,” he said with a smile that the driver did not fully understand (but politely did not ask about); Akiyama could imagine the confusion he was brewing for Daigo, but he hoped that the clear streets of the very late night would make up for his charade on the phone soon enough. “But how big of a problem are we talking about, Daigo-kun? Just so I can know and prepare, gotta check the books before promising you anything. Oh, and you have to take a test, too - I don’t give anyone preferential treatment.”
The cab quickly arrived at their destination - the ex-yakuza had never lived too far away from the heart of Kamurocho once he left the Dojima family home, apparently, and perhaps the state that Daigo was in was enough to distract the older male from the ruse that Akiyama had been conducting on his side. The taxi fare was paid quickly, and the loan shark paused for a moment while he went up the stairs of the former chairman’s apartment, glancing at both ends of the hallway before remembering the right number and going to his door.
He pressed the doorbell then - and this time, he did not bother to mute the call, so if Daigo was paying attention, he would likely be able to put two and two together. “I think you should get that, by the way. Someone knocking on your door at this hour? Must be pretty important.”

A Man’s Promise: Daigo Scratcher Event
Daigo time! Look at these fancy new cards (and karaoke Akiyama, who is the scratcher prize for some reason)
Tumblr media
This one ended up being much longer and funnier than I expected, and we get to see Daigo being kind of cool!
Summary: Daigo goes to investigate rumors of Omi Alliance remnants in the outskirts of Kamurocho. He bumps into an old friend turned enemy and gets tangled up in the unintended difficulties the Tojo-Omi war has caused for a local elementary school.
<a certain day in 2006>
With the conflict between the Tojo and the Omi coming to an end, on the outskirts of Kamurocho, the root of the conflict between east and west is still smoldering.
Daigo: The remnants of the Omi Alliance are still around Kamurocho? Is that true?
Tumblr media
Yayoi: Yes, that's the current situation as far as we've been able to tell. Even though things are finished, one group has rallied and refuses to accept the outcome. Daigo: Tch, those asshole...! Kashiwagi: Just to be safe, I've informed the clan members to be ready to move out war at any time--at least until this dispute is settled. I'd like to avoid further burdening our members with this.
Tumblr media
Daigo: ....Then let's see how those assholes like dealing with me. Yayoi: Daigo, what are you planning on doing? Daigo: I'm going to smoke out those Omi remnants and drive them back to kansai. Kashiwagi: We need to avoid getting into a second conflict with the Omi. Daigo: Yeah... I got that. <Daigo heads out> Daigo: (Well, talking about hunting down the Omi remnants is all well and good, and they're supposed to be in Kamurocho's outskirts) Daigo: (But how the hell am I supposed to find the bastards...)
Tumblr media
???: Aniki. Daigo: You're... Shitamura? (Tl note: could also be Shimomura or Shikukira or probably a bunch of other readings but that's what I'm going with. No clue if he’s been in anything else, I don’t recognize the name!)
Tumblr media
Shitamura: You really remember me? Shitamura: When I heard my aniki had gone and become the head of the whole Tojo Clan, I figured you'd have forgotten all about me. Daigo: When you conspired with the other side, I was crushed. I haven't forgotten you at all. Shitamura: Haha, you remember stuff from that long ago? Shitamura: By the way aniki, do you think ya could put in a good word for me to join the Tojo Clan? Shitamura: I'm sure you can see that I'd be useful to you. Daigo: You better think carefully before making jokes like that. Daigo: Do you think I'd deal with a double-crossing man like that? Shitamura: Oh, is that so. Well if the Tojo Clan doesn't take me, won't that mean I have no choice but to work with the Omi? Shitamura: You understand the situation, right? Shitamura: There's still a considerable number of Omi remnants hangin' around Kamurocho. Shitamura: I'm holdin' my breath until the Tojo Clan gets tripped up by it. Daigo: What do you know about the Omi remnants? Shitamura: Who can say? Daigo: So that's how it is. If you want to join the Omi, that's fine. Shitamura: What? Daigo: Go join whatever organization you please. I don't have any right to stop you. Daigo: However, if you join the Tojo and betray them in favor of the Omi... Daigo: I'm destroy you with every ounce of my strength. Shitamura: Oooh, scary. Seems that you're the one tellin' jokes now. Daigo: It's fine if you think it's a joke... but it's not. Shitamura: Wait, where are ya going? We're not done talkin', right?
Tumblr media
Daigo: I have to investigate the Omi remnants. I don't have time to deal with you. <Daigo leaves> Shitamura: Shit. I gotta get back on the right track! (Tl note: struggling here. 調子に乗りおってからに!) Daigo: (I've been talking to people for a long time, but no one seems to know anything about the Omi remnants.) Daigo: (Is it already that late? I'll have to make another try tomorrow, then. Hm? That's....) Daigo: Hey, what are you doing out this late? (Tl note: I very briefly thought this was the same kid as in Haruka's scratcher lmao)
Tumblr media
Takashi: ...Who are you, old man? Daigo: You can call me Daigo. And you are? Takashi: ....Takashi. Daigo: I see.... Hey, Takashi, you should hurry up and go home, won't your parents get worried? Takashi: Leave me alone. Daigo: Well that's not going to happen. It isn't good for a kid like you to be out this late--especially when loitering by yourself, this street is hard to call safe. Daigo: So go home, I'm sure you have homework to do. Takashi: ...But, I don't want to go to school anymore. Daigo: Do you get bullied at school? Takashi: That's not it. Daigo: Well then, will you tell me why you don't want to go to school? Takashi: The event I planned just got cancelled. Daigo: Event? Takashi: It's a scratch card event, you could even win a prize. Takashi: I went and handed out scratch cards to all the old folks on this street. Takashi: If someone won, they'd get one of the rings or necklaces we all made as a prize. Daigo: So why did it get cancelled? Takashi: Because a bunch of scary old men are having a big fight in Kamurocho. Daigo: ....................... Takashi: If we held the event, we'd all get dragged into their fighting... Takashi: So, we had to cancel it. Daigo: So that's what happened. Takashi: All that planning we did? It ended up being for nothing... Takashi: We spent all of our free time after school doing our best making those scratchers... Daigo: ...But, the fighting is already over. If you held it now, there shouldn't be an issue, right? Takashi: We can't. Those scary old guys are still loitering around our school. Daigo: What? Takashi: They lost the fight but they said that even then they won't run away. Daigo: ....Takashi, which school do you go to? Takashi: Ochiyama Elementary. (Tl note: Literally "falling mountain" which is a really funny name for an elementary school) Daigo: (Ochiyama... that is a little bit outside of Kamurocho) Daigo: (Kashiwagi-san did say they were on the outskirts of Kamurocho, so are the Omi remnants hiding out at Ochiyama.....?) Takashi: Since the event I planned was cancelled... After all of our hard work........ Takashi: Everyone tells me that these things can't be helped.... but that just makes me feel worse.... Takashi: So that's why I want to stop going to school...... Daigo: (This kid.... I can't help but feel responsible for this.....) Daigo: ....Go on home for tonight. I'm sure your parents are worried. Takashi: But! Daigo: It'll be okay if you go home. Takashi: If you keep saying that I'll just go somewhere else. There's a lot of other places I can hang out.... Daigo: That's, uhh... Takashi: See ya. Thanks for worrying about me. But, I'm not going to go home. Daigo: ....If I go talk to your school and get them to run the event, will that make you go home? Takashi: Eh! Really? You'll talk to the old guys there so the event can happen!? Daigo: Yes, I promise. Takashi: Sure, I'll go home then! But don't you forget your promise, okay? Daigo: A real man isn't a backstabber. <the following day> Teacher: Principal, there's a guest here to see you. (Tl note: oh my god Daigo. imagine being this poor principal and the chairman of the local yakuza shows up like "hey you gotta run this scratcher event the kids worked really hard on it :(" I would die)
Tumblr media
Daigo: Pardon the intrusion, Principal.
Tumblr media
Principal: So, which student are you here about? Daigo: I'm... a member of the Tojo Clan's Dojima Family.  Principal: T-Tojo clan...!? Daigo: I've come here today to make a request. Daigo: The event that the children thought of, can I get your approval on it being run? Principal: The... event? Daigo: The scratcher event. We've heard that it was cancelled. Principal: It's true that the event was cancelled.... But why are you interested? Principal: I think people like you have meddled with the children's event more than enough. Daigo: There's no deep meaning behind it. Really, we just can't forgive ourselves if we disadvantage children like this. Principal: Oh... So you're sticking to your own principles. Principal: You should know that the event was cancelled because of a yakuza attack in the vicinity. Principal: Do you think that by doing this you will end up causing us more trouble? Daigo: (There shouldn't be anybody on the turf around here. So that means it is the Omi remnants...) Daigo: .....I promise the children will be safe. So please, allow the event to happen. Principal: I can't trust in the promise of a yakuza. Principal: I can't stand to see a school become so noisy anyways. I was only doing the event for the board of education. Principal: Now, even if I run such an event, my evaluation won't get any better... Daigo: Oi, Principal... Daigo: Didn't you hear me? Principal: Huh? What? Daigo: I'm telling you that if there's any problem at all I'm here to clean it up. So there's no problem from you, right? Principal: O-Oh, right, that's what you said, sir. H-Ha ha... Daigo: Of course, Principal. I'm glad we're understanding each other.
Tumblr media
Daigo: Well, I'm off. I look forward to working with you after this. <Daigo leaves> Principal: Hoo... What the hell, why me..... Why do I have to suffer through meeting someone like that...!
<A few days later>
Takashi: Mister!
Tumblr media
Daigo: Ah, Takashi. Takashi: We're going to have our event! You really did keep your promise! Daigo: It's like I said. A real man never double crosses. Takashi: You're right. Thank you! Well, I gotta go prepare! <Takashi leaves> Daigo: Heh... I can hardly believe he was so depressed before. <Daigo's phone rings> Daigo: Hm? My phone is... This is Daigo. Principal: I-It's me. The principal at Uchiyama Elementary. Daigo: Ah, you. Have you decided to open the event? Daigo: I'll owe you one for this. As thanks. Principal: A-About that, just now a bunch of mean looking men just entered the school. Principal: They came in here to ask about you, and what we talked about. Daigo: What? What do you mean? Principal: I told them why you were here, and they stole all of the scratchers for the event tomorrow... (Tl note: rggo actually fucked up on this and marked this as Daigo dialogue when it clearly isn't lol) Daigo: All the scratchers were stolen? What the hell, who does something like that... Principal: The man, he was named Shitamura. Daigo: Shitamura huh.... And he took all of the scratchers? Principal: That's correct..... every single scratch card the children made, they're all gone, so the event won't be able to happen... Daigo: Shitamura, that bastard... What is he playing at...... Principal: That person did ask me to pass along a message.... Daigo: A message? Principal: He said he'll be waiting at Kamurocho's Batting Center... Daigo: Got it. I'll head there right away. <Daigo goes> Shitamura: Yo, aniki. Ya kept me waitin'.
Tumblr media
Daigo: Shitamura, why the hell did you steal all the scratchers those kids mad? Shitamura: Why, to lure you here... I knew you'd have no choice. Daigo: What? Shitamura: There's a lotta people that have a grudge against ya. Omi Member: Hehe. It's about time we repaid the favor. Daigo-san.
Tumblr media
Daigo: Seriously, you're... Shitamura: Yep. A buncha Omi men. Me, I actually decided that the Omi was the better deal. Daigo: Shitamura, you fucker... Shitamura: C'mon, I saw ya goin' into that Ochiyama Elementary school. Shitamura: And I got to wonderin' what that was about, and boy was I surprised when I got the story from the principal. Shitamura: My aniki, who's got a glare that could scare a cryin' kid into silence, is off doin' all this cause of a brat. Shitamura: Everyone's been sayin' ya lost your edge when ya went back to the Tojo Clan. Daigo: It doesn't matter what you think of me. Just hand over the scratch cards already. Daigo: Those kids worked real hard making them. Shitamura: Do you think bein' told soft shit like that will make me hand 'em over? Daigo: What are you hoping for, asshole? Shitamura: You're so cold to me. You really gotta let go of that grudge. Shitamura: For now the good people of the Omi want to get some payback. Shitamura: Of course, not even you can handle this number of people. Daigo: ....Well, we'll see. Shitamura: I'll let you in on something, as a final gift to take to your grave. Shitamura: That rumor about the Omi remnants hiding out around Kamurocho, I was the one who planted that. Daigo: What? Shitamura: That's why ya didn't find any Omi sniffin' around Ochiyama. Daigo: Then why is the Omi wandering around Ochiyama Elementary? Shitamura: That's just to extort cash from the principal. Shitamura: That principal is neck deep in gamblin' debt with the Omi. Daigo: So, the only one lurking around the school was you? Shitamura: Exactly. The remnants of the Omi was just a hoax to catch you off guard--and it seems like you, soon-to-be chairman, have fallen for the bait. Shitamura: Once I kill ya, my cred with the Omi will go through the roof. Daigo: So when you approached me about joining the Tojo, that was a ruse too? Shitamura: Yep, if I could get closer to you, I could get more info on the Tojo. Shitamura: The Omi pays top dollar for that kinda stuff. Daigo: Seems your backstabbing is alive and well. Honestly, I'm relieved to hear that. Shitamura: Why's that? Daigo: Since it was only a rumor that remnants were hiding, the Tojo can stand down from it's war preparations. Daigo: One more thing, none of you fuckers understand a damn thing about why I went into that elementary school. Daigo: So don't trust in your own power so much. Shitamura: ....Is that so. Shitamura: Though if the next chairmen died here, that would be a big problem for the Tojo, right? Daigo: Me, die? I already told you to think before you say stupid shit. Shitamura: Oh, well ain't you full of yourself? Shitamura: The Omi has a big grudge over the war. Think they're gonna be happy with a settlement? Daigo: I understand... It's on me to remind them about why the Tojo Clan is feared. Shitamura: Excellent, let's fuck this bastard up!
<EVENT START>
Shitamura: H-How the hell'dya win against that many people!
Tumblr media
Daigo: It doesn't matter how many weaklings you gather. It's pretty sloppy of you if you're only noticing that now.
Tumblr media
Shitamura: Shit! Daigo: With that out of the way, hand over the scratchers. Shitamura: What the hell.... Why's a guy like you want to help some elementary school event...... Daigo: I made a promise to a kid. I'm going to make sure that event happens. Shitamura: Th-That's it....? Daigo: I told that kid I was making a promise to him as a man. That's plenty of reason. Shitamura: Ha, hahaha.....! Daigo: What's so funny? Shitamura: ......I was small-minded in hinderin' ya, I think. There couldn't be more difference in the kind of man you 'n' I are. Shitamura: I wanna stop bein' a yakuza. Daigo: That's a good idea. Shitamura: The scratchers are stashed in this locker. ...Well, I'm off for good. Enjoy yourself, aniki. Daigo: Sure... <cut away> Kashiwagi: Pardon the intrusion.
Tumblr media
Principal: A-And you are? Kashiwagi: Greetings, I'm Kashiwagi, member of the Tojo Clan. Principal: A-Another from the Tojo Clan... What do you want this time? Kashiwagi: I have something to deliver to you. <a soft thump of paper hitting the table> Principal: Th-This is...? Kashiwagi: 3,000,000 yen. Please accept it. Principal: Eh!? W-Why are you giving this to me...? Kashiwagi: Our next chairman is indebted to you for your assistance. Principal: Next... chairman? Kashiwagi: A young man by the name of Daigo Dojima. He came here, right? Principal: That fucker- ah, I mean, that gentleman, he's going to be the Tojo Clan's chairman..... Principal: Wow. I had no idea who visited me.... or that I'd get so much money........ Kashiwagi: Please don't trouble yourself with that. This money has no strings attached. Please continue on exactly as you were before. Principal: I-I just don't understand this... Kashiwagi: You listened to our soon to be chairman's request. This is the reward. Principal: Th-That was really worth 3 million yen? Kashiwagi: The next chairman, for some reason he really enjoyed that event for the children. Kashiwagi: Without you, he wouldn't have been as enthusiastic about starting out..... You understand, right? Principal: Uh-.... right, I got it! Absolutely, I pushed through anyone who voiced opposition! Kashiwagi: The next time you hold an event, the next chairman would be thrilled to take part. You have the gratitude of all of us, Principal. Principal: Ha, haha... Th-That sounds great! How could I ever refuse something like that... ha ha ha............. Kashiwagi: ......Around here, Omi remnants have been appearing frequently--which is your fault. <Music cuts out> Principal: ..................Eh? <Music gets ominous> Kashiwagi: You know they've been coming by wanting to collect on the money you blew on gambling and playing around. Kashiwagi: That's why, in order to collect that money, Omi have been loitering around the vicinity... Kashiwagi: Therefore, the real reason the children's event was cancelled, is you. Principal: Well.... that's.... Kashiwagi: Furthermore, you've been hiding this fact--hoping that the Tojo Clan might wipe out the Omi around the school before the cause of it ever came to light... Kashiwagi: But it didn't, and I think you've made this very difficult for us. Did I miss anything? Principal: ..................... Kashiwagi: ........Come now, to hold the children's event a dangerous group like the Omi was wiped out.... Kashiwagi: So it's all done and dusted... wouldn't you say, principal? Principal: Y-Y-Yes sir....? Kashiwagi: If something like this happens again... We'll have no choice but to bring down the hammer. Do you understand what I'm saying? Principal: O-Of course.... Something like this will never, ever, ever happen again, I swear..... Kashiwagi: Well, I'm thankful you understand things now. Coming here today was a good idea after all. Principal: Y-Yes sir... From now on I'm going to be on the straight and narrow.... Absolutely..... Kashiwagi: Haha, no need to go that far. ....Just make sure you don't cause problems for people again and you'll keep living just fine, Principal. Principal: Y-Yes sir... Of course....! Kashiwagi: If you'll excuse me then. I'll drop by to visit some other time. <Kashiwagi leaves> Principal: Hahahaha.... haaa....... I'm.... going to stop gambling..... <cut to the park> Takashi's friend: Takashi-kun. The scratcher event was a huge success! All the old men and ladies on this street loved it! Takashi: Yeah. Did everyone have fun?
Tumblr media
Takashi's friend: Yeah, of course! Takashi: Nice! I better get thinking of how to make the next event even more interesting, it'll be so fun! Daigo: ...............
Tumblr media
Man in black: Daigo-san, are we going to continue watching these children? (Tl note: BRO your own bodyguard calls you by first name???) Daigo: No, there doesn't seem to be any more Omi in this area. There's no need for further observation. Man in black: Understood. <Man leaves, Daigo gets a phone call> Daigo: Kashiwagi-san, what is it? Kashiwagi: I've just received information that a foreign mafia group is trying to expand into Kamurocho. Kashiwagi: Daigo, we need you back at HQ to start developing counter measures. Daigo: Got it, I'll be there shortly. <hangs up> Daigo: (It's just one thing after another huh... Well, this is the responsibility that comes with my position....) Daigo: (The job of the Tojo Clan's 6th Chairman, a role I'm starting to step up to)
Tumblr media
<END>
Bonus time:
can you imagine what that principal is going through. I know he’s a shit head and kind of deserved it but it’s just so so so funny to see Daigo and Kashiwagi bullying this guy
the most important thing about the entire event is that the scratchers looked like this
Tumblr media
please enjoy a faceapp by @majimemegoro as well that made me wheeze
Tumblr media
finally he can smile and not look like it’s hurting him immensely to do so

so i just finished yakuza 6 and wow. i have a lot of thoughts and opinions. so here they are!!
im spoiling pretty much the entire game + a little bit of tlou part 2 (pretty much just the beginning when a certain someone dies) so keep that in mind. the tlou spoilers will be indicated by ⚠️ so if you wanna skip over that, just ignore everything inside the caution emoji.
this game is probably my second favorite yakuza game/tied for my favorite yakuza game with yakuza 0. i have never played a game that has left me with as much an impact as 0 has and yakuza 6 has given me that same feeling i had when i first finished yakuza 0.
there are only two problems i had with this game. the first problem i had was with the combat. overall i think yakuza 6’s combat was pretty good, but there were some times where i got very tired of it very quickly.
it was only really when i was fighting against large groups of people + 1 or 2 heavy weight mini bosses. i would have both of the mini bosses continuously knock me down over and over before i ever got a punch in. it reminded me of the problems yakuza 3-5 had. and i had the right upgrades to help me, too (i.e. the rising tornado, automatically get up thingy, etc.) and while i could get up quickly, it just made it quicker for them to knock me right back down again. however i only had this problem when i was fighting many people/heavy weight mini bosses, everything else was fine.
my second problem was the fuCKING TROBLR. i would get notifs for this all the fucking time and with that annoying ass text tone it has it got very old very fast. and at first i was like “well i’m probably just annoyed by it because i personally don’t care about doing any of this troblr shit i’m sure if you’re actually interested in doing these side missions it would be different.” but here’s the thing- i would get these notifs all. the. fucking. time. in the middle of a very very important plot mission? troblr notif. running away from a random encounter? hold on, gotta stop to close out this troblr notif because the text tone won’t stop fucking ringing until i look at it. you’re at the end of the game and you’re running through town to get to where you need to fight this boss and your mind is focused entirely on the plot because crazy shit just went down? hold on, my phones ringing, oh wait no it’s just that stupid fucking app some bitch downloaded on my phone. as you can tell, my anger for this one (1) game mechanic is unmatched.
in terms of the ending, it wasn’t the happy ending i was rooting for, but i’m glad it wasn’t. i think it was a very good end to kiryu’s story and the focus on family and the father/child bond throughout the entire game was amazing. as kiryu’s writing his will, the game goes back and shows you all these examples of family throughout the game and pieces together the theme. i think tying it all back to family/parenting is just what was needed to finish off kiryu’s saga, because that’s been such a big focus throughout the series. from how he was an orphan, to his relationship with nishiki, yumi, kazama, daigo, and especially haruka, not to mention all his friends he made throughout the series. if it wasn’t made clear before, you can see just how important these relationships and family is to kiryu and how he would go to any length to keep the loved ones he has left safe, even if it meant never seeing them again.
i think him dying, or “dying”, was also a good idea. ⚠️ tlou2 spoilers: it’s kind of like with joel in tlou, we all loved him and how he would do anything for the family he has left, and seeing him die was heartbreaking, but honestly, he had it coming. joel did a lot of shitty things in the grand scheme of things, even if it was for the benefit of someone he loved, and even if there wasn’t a “right” solution to the problem.⚠️ kiryu is without a doubt an amazing person and an amazing protagonist. but he is/was also yakuza. a well known one at that, so that means he has obviously done some things that are wrong, and he says how he’s not proud of it multiple times. even if you’re a good person, if you do/have done bad things, they’re going to catch up to you eventually. that’s just the way life is sometimes though, and that’s what makes kiryu and his story feel real. he’s not a perfect protag who does everything right and saves everyone. he’s a flawed person with experiences and connections that have shaped him into what he is, and that’s part of the reason why he’s such a good person.
anyways thank u for listening to my ted talk

Character Story - Daigo [RGGO]
This might be the longest Character Story I’ve done and man do my fingers feel it, but here’s Daigo! Now with GIFs, because I finally figured out how to use screencapture on my phone and I want to show how extra Majima’s sprite is XD (Thank you @onadacora and @blurred-voices for the request!)
Tumblr media
Story: Kiryu leaves Daigo in charge of the Tojo Clan, but the people really don’t like nepotism, surprisingly. Majima returns to the clan but doesn’t listen to Daigo because he doesn’t have the required gym badge to tame him yet.
Bodhisattva Majima: “The Tojo Clan is pathetic! This is all Kiryu-chan’s fault for leaving!!”
Bonbon Boy Daigo: “Majima-san, I know you’re upset about your breakup, but please stop taking it out on our men D: ”
Note: “Bodhisattva” according to google means “a person who is able to reach nirvana but delays doing so out of compassion in order to save suffering beings” (so yeah Majima’s definitely full of shit). “Bonbon” refers to whiskey bonbon. EDIT: Apparently it’s slang for “rich spoiled brat”. (Yay new Daigo nickname!)
.
CHAPTER 1
.
A few months after Kiryu Kazuma settled the score with Goda Ryuji and the Go-Ryu Clan, Dojima Daigo is recommended by Kiryu to be appointed as the Sixth Chairman of the Tojo Clan.
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “Then, I trust you to handle the rest . . .  Daigo.”
Tumblr media
Daigo: “Yeah, please leave it to me.  . . . But . . . why me?”
Kiryu: “What do you mean?”
Daigo: “I think there are others more suitable than me. Such as Kashiwagi-san and Kiryu-san . . .”
Kiryu: “No, there’s no one else more suitable to be the Sixth Chairman than you. That’s what I think.”
Daigo: “More . . . than anyone?”
Kiryu: “Daigo, you are strong. You have the strength not to give in to violence or power. Now, with the Tojo Clan exhausted by the conflict against the Omi, we need a strong leader like you.”
Daigo: “A strong leader . . .”
Kiryu: “You will surely unite the Tojo Clan. I believe so.”
Daigo: “Kiryu-san . . .”
----
After several months . . .
Tumblr media
Kodama: “That bastard Sasaki, invading our territory, what is the meaning of this?! Sixth Chairman!!”
Daigo: “. . . I don’t mean to leave it alone. I have repeatedly advised Sasaki to be careful.”
Tumblr media
Kijima: “It’s not just Kodama, I’m affected too. Are you just going to let them do what they want?!”
Daigo: “. . . I’ll have a lot of words for Sasaki.”
Kodama: “Honestly, I don’t want to hear what you’re going to say. I’m sick of the Sixth Chairman.”
Daigo: “. . .”
Kijima: “You think this is all right? Sixth Chairman, do you even know what you’re saying? ‘The Sixth Chairman is a half-assed yakuza who lets the direct patriarchs do what they want’. That’s your reputation in the clan, right?”
Daigo: “What?”
Tumblr media
Kashiwagi: “Kijima, watch your mouth.”
Kodama: “Kashiwagi-san. These are just facts. Even if you look away, it won’t solve the problem. Moreover, Kanda, who recently became the head of the Nishikiyama Family, is rumored to be planning something big.”
Kijima: “Haa~. None of this would be happening if the Fourth Chairman was still holding the seat.”
Daigo: “. . .”
---
Tumblr media
Daigo: “Damn it! Nobody listens to what I have to say . . .”
Kashiwagi: “I’m here. The resistance is strong . . . even so, there is no courtesy to the Sixth Chairman.”
Daigo: “. . . but . . . what they are saying is also plausible.”
Kashiwagi: “Sixth Chairman, this isn’t solely your responsibility. There was also that incident with the Omi, and the clan is still in turmoil. The police are also keeping their distance from the Tojo, and the battle for territory is accelerating.”
Daigo: “Yeah. I can’t leave it as it is.”
Kashiwagi: “Jeez . . . that Kiryu left such a heavy role on you.”
Daigo: “Kashiwagi-san. For now, let’s talk to Sasaki again.”
----
Tumblr media
Sasaki: “Sixth Chairman, even if you say that. I’m not doing anything wrong, am I? You just pay the money properly, make a contract, and buy the land, right?”
Daigo: “However, the land is Kodama Family territory. It doesn’t make sense to buy territory from your own relatives.”
Sasaki: “What reason. I’m not doing anything illegal, right? I even consulted with a lawyer.”
Daigo: “Even if you didn’t violate the law, you violated the code. I can’t forgive you for that.”
Sasaki: “Good grief, the person who was just a mere gangster the other day is now acting like he knows anything about being a yakuza. Didn’t the deceased Patriarch Dojima . . . no, didn’t your daddy give you a special education?”
Tumblr media
Daigo: “What?”
Sasaki: “At this point in time, let me tell you . . . no one accepts you as the Sixth Chairman. Doesn’t have any experience or track record. Doesn’t have his own family. Aren’t you just recommended by the Fourth Chairman? On the contrary, until recently you were just a thug who drank a lot. Being fucked over by the Omi, getting captured, and after being released you play around with your parents’ money like a good-for-nothing boy?”
Daigo: “What was that?!”
Sasaki: “Is that who’s supposed to be the Sixth Chairman? How funny. You think anyone would agree to that? Hey, you . . . how much did you bribe the Fourth Chairman?”
Daigo: “Bastard!!”
Sasaki: “. . . That’s right. What are you going to do?!”
Daigo: “. . . if people don’t understand what you say, you need to change the way you say it.”
Sasaki: “Sixth Chairman. You think if you hit me in a fight, I’ll answer to you?!”
Daigo: “Yeah. If I can do it, then I’ll try it!”
{Daigo beats up Sasaki.}
Tumblr media
Daigo: “Who are you calling a boy? Huh?!”
Sasaki: “Gyaah!!”
{Sasaki collapses.}
Daigo: “Haa . . . haa . . . haa . . .”
Tumblr media
Kashiwagi: “Daigo! What happened?”
Daigo: “. . .”
Kashiwagi: “Is this . . . Sasaki? Daigo, you . . . no way . . .”
Daigo: “If people don’t understand what you say, you need to change the way you say it.  . . . Kashiwagi-san.”
Kashiwagi: “. . . Sixth Chairman. Is this what Kiryu expected of you?”
Daigo: “Eh?”
Kashiwagi: “Anyone can rule by force if they’re strong enough. But is this what Kiryu wanted you to do?”
Daigo: “That is . . .”
Kashiwagi: “I know suddenly being thrust into this role is confusing. But still . . . don’t lose sight of what you have to do as chairman.”
Daigo: “. . . Yeah. I already know that.”
Daigo: “. . .”
---
After a few weeks . . .
Tumblr media
Kashiwagi: “. . . Sixth Chairman. There’s been talk.”
Daigo: “Talk? Of what?”
Kashiwagi: “Yeah it’s . . . should I call it good news, or should I call it bad news. Actually . . .”
Tumblr media
Majima: “. . . I’m tired of waiting! How long I’ve waited!”
Daigo: “Ma-Majima-san?!”
Majima: “Daigo-chaa~n! Great to see ya!”
Daigo: “Kashiwagi-san, is this what you were saying earlier?”
Kashiwagi: “Yeah. the Majima Family will return to the Tojo Clan. It seems that Kiryu persuaded him. He wants him to support you.”
Daigo: “Kiryu-san? For me?”
Majima: “So, I’ll be taking care of ya from now on.”
Kashiwagi: “. . . Majima. I ask that you moderate your behavior.”
Majima: “Oh, leave it to me. With a bodhisattva-like heart, I support Daigo-chan.”
Daigo: Yes! If Majima-san returns, that would be reassuring! With this, the Tojo Clan . . . I think it will finally come together.”
Majima: . . .”
Daigo: (Alright. From now on, let’s brace ourselves!)
.
-END-
.
CHAPTER 2
 .
Tumblr media
Yakuza: “B-Bastard . . . What’re you doing?”
Majima: “You . . . I heard it. You’re dissatisfied with Daigo-chan’s manner of doing things. It sounds like something is being planned behind the scenes. Are you staging a coup d’état?”
Yakuza: “Wh-What the hell are you talking about?! Guh!!”
Majima: “Get up. I’m not through with ya yet.”
Yakuza: Hiii! No more!!”
Majima: “The Tojo Clan has become weak. If Kiryu-chan was still here . . . It wouldn’t be such a mess!!”
Yakuza: “Gyaaa!!”
----
Tumblr media
Daigo: “What was that?! Majima-san again?!”
Kashiwagi: “Yeah. This is the 19th incident this month.”
Daigo: “Damn it. Why is he doing this?”
Kashiwagi: “It seems he is rampaging as much as he likes against those under suspicion of rebellion against you. With or without evidence, if he has judged you to have the will of rebellion against the Sixth Chairman, he will give you no mercy . . . Thanks to that, the number of voices dissatisfied with the Sixth Chairman is only increasing.”
Daigo: “. . . Majima-san, this is counterproductive . . .”
Kashiwagi: "That man is the kind of guy whose leash you couldn’t even hold in the first place. That Kiryu, bringing back such an outrageous problem child . . .”
Daigo: “It can’t be helped. I’ll have a word with him . . .”
----
Tumblr media
Majima: “Daigo-chan, what’re ya talking about?”
Daigo: “Majima-san, I heard you’ve been rampaging around Kamurocho.”
Majima: “Kiryu-chan told me to. Hit the guy who opposes Daigo-chan from one end. That was what Kiryu-chan endorsed.”
Daigo: “Kiryu-san said that?”
Majima: “That’s the truth. I don’t know what to tell ya: if an idiot strikes, the owner will bite back to discipline him. With a dog.”
Daigo: “Th-that may be so . . . but what you’re doing is overkill.”
Majima: “. . . Haa. Daigo-chan, you’re an amateur.”
Daigo: “. . . Majima-san. Thank you for doing this for me and the clan. However, because of your rampaging, the Tojo Clan is plunged into more and more chaos. That is . . .”
Majima: “Daigo-chan! There seems to be a misunderstanding, so let me clear it up.”
Tumblr media
Majima: “I don’t want to do this for the Tojo Clan and Daigo-chan.”
Daigo: “Then . . . are you doing this because of Kiryu-san?”
Majima: That ain’t it.  . . . It’s because . . . I want to rampage.”
Daigo: “Eh?”
Majima: “Kiryu-chan asked me to do it for Daigo-chan, it’s just for the cause!”
Daigo: “Wha-”
Majima: “Besides, the only one who can order me around is someone who is stronger than me! But Daigo-chan . . . you’re weak. I met ya the other day and it was easy to see at first glance.”
Daigo: “W-Weak?”
Majima: “Hopeless. I won’t listen to someone that weak. Y’know, that kind of thing!”
Daigo: (What . . . such an absurd person . . .)
----
Tumblr media
Kashiwagi: “Really. Majima did that . . .”
Daigo: “Yeah. I’m in trouble.”
Kashiwagi: “. . . But, Sixth Chairman. Are you in a position to criticize Majima?”
Daigo: “Eh?”
Kashiwagi: “The other day, you too tried to make Sasaki obey with violence.”
Daigo: “!”
Kashiwagi: “What Majima is doing and what you did are essentially the same. The result is the current turmoil.”
Tumblr media
Daigo: “. . .”
Daigo: “. . . Kashiwagi-san. How would Kiryu-san deal with this?”
Kashiwagi: “If it was Kiryu? No . . . I think the problem here is, ‘What would you do?’”
Daigo: “Me?”
Kashiwagi: “Yeah. There must be a reason why Kiryu is willing to entrust the Tojo Clan to you. In that case, it shouldn’t be about what Majima or Kiryu will do . . . but rather what will you do?”
Daigo: “. . . so it should be by my method?”
Kashiwagi: “Yeah. Just think it over.”
Daigo: “Okay . . .”
----
Tumblr media
Daigo: (My method . . . In terms of achievements and popularity in the Tojo Clan, I can’t hope to match Kiryu-san. Majima-san’s way of domination through violence, that’s not my way . . . Then Kiryu-san, what were you expecting from me?)
Driver: “Uooooo!”
{The driver swerves wildly.}
Daigo: “Oi! What?!”
{A hail of bullets rings out.}
Daigo: “What?! A shootout?!”
Tumblr media
Thug: “Dojima Daigo!! Come out!”
Tumblr media
Daigo’s Bodyguard: “What the hell are you doing?!”
Thug: “You guys, do it!!”
Daigo’s Bodyguard: “Kuh . . . this many people . . .”
Thug: “You’re annoying!! Now die!!”
{the thugs beat up the bodyguard.}
Daigo’s Bodyguard: “Damn. . .”
Thug: “Hahahahahahaha!! Die!!”
Tumblr media
Daigo: “Oi!! Stop it!! Aren’t I the one you want?!”
Daigo’s Bodyguard: “Sixth Chairman . . . please run away . . .”
Daigo: “No. I can’t. If I run away, you guys . . .”
Daigo’s Bodyguard: “B-But . . .”
Thug: “Hehehe. Don’t count on it. There are 30 people here. The load is too heavy for the Bonbon Boy!!”
{Daigo defeats all 30 men.}
Tumblr media
Thug: “S-So strong . . .they didn’t say . . .”
Daigo: “You thought a chairman who sits at his desk all day and only does clerical work couldn’t fight? You guys . . . who hired you?”
Thug: “Damn . . .”
Daigo: “Answer me!!”
Thug: “. . . To-Tojo Clan.”
Daigo: “What? Oi!! Which family was it?”
Thug: “Come on! I don’t know! He seemed to be from a family at the lower end, but he didn’t give a name!! We were just given money by him and were told to kill you!!”
Daigo: (Shit. Who the hell could it be?)
---
A few days later . . .
Tumblr media
Daigo: (The other day’s attack. The assailants didn’t seem to know anything . . . The person who hired them. If I think about it . . . it must be someone who has a deep grudge against me. Sasaki . . . he was still complaining about me after that, but could it really be him?)
Tumblr media
Kashiwagi: “Daigo! It’s terrible! There’s an attack! Sasaki’s office is being attacked!”
Daigo: “Attacked?! By who?”
Kashiwagi: “. . . Majima. It seems he called up his family and headed to Sasaki’s office.”
Daigo: “What was that?!”
Kashiwagi: “Majima thinks Sasaki is the culprit who had you ambushed, said he was going to execute him.”
Daigo: “E-Execute?”
Kashiwagi: “Sixth Chairman. We can’t forgive Majima’s violence anymore. Isn’t that right?”
Daigo: “Y-Yes!! Let’s head to Majima-san right away!”
Kashiwagi: “. . .Yeah!”
.
-END-
.
CHAPTER 3
 .
Tumblr media
Daigo: “Majima-san!!”
Tumblr media
Sasaki: “U-Ugh . . .”
Majima: “Oh, Daigo-chan. Yeah, I came here too. This guy spilled everything. He said he had Daigo-chan attacked.”
Daigo: “You?”
Majima: “Rebellion against the chairman won’t be forgiven. You’ll be executed.”
Daigo: “Majima-san, stop it!!”
Majima: “Stop? Why? Didn’t this guy try to kill Daigo-chan?”
Sasaki: “D-Don’t kill me . . .”
Daigo: (Th-This method . . .)
Daigo: “. . . Majima-san! This method of making a mark is wrong!”
Majima: “. . . Haa. Don’t say something so boring. Besides, didn’t I say so the other day? The only ones who can order me around are those stronger than me. Is Daigo-chan stronger than me?”
Daigo: “. . . Th-that is . . .”
Majima: “Or . . . can ya prove it? That Daigo-chan is stronger than me.”
Daigo: “Eh?”
Majima: “Since you’re silent, I guess that means I don’t have to do what you say . . .”
Daigo: “Prove . . .”
Majima: “If ya can’t do it, then don’t do it. Let me do things my own way!!”
Daigo: “W-Wait!!”
Kashiwagi: “Daigo. Majima is provoking you. If you hop on . . .”
Daigo: “I know that. But . . . if I pull back now . . .”
Majima: “What are you going to do? To stop this guy from getting killed, are ya gonna prove you’re stronger than me?”
Daigo: “. . . . . . . . . Understood. Let’s fight, to bargain for his life.”
Majima: “Oh! So you’ll do it?!”
Daigo: “Yeah. And . . . if I beat you, please swear your loyalty to me.”
Majima: “What? That’s a hefty condition. Well, in that case . . . If I win, I get the Tojo Clan. I’ll be the next chairman.”
Daigo: “What!”
Kashiwagi: “O-Oi! That’s . . .”
Majima: “If ya can’t meet those conditions, then this discussion is over. Let Sasaki die.”
Sasaki: “H-Hiii~~!!”
Daigo: “. . . Alright. Let’s drink to your conditions.”
Majima: “Kukuku. Yeah. We’ll have to do that, Daigo-chan.”
Kashiwagi: “Daigo . . . ! This method . . .”
Daigo: “Pardon me, Kashiwagi-san. But this is the only way . . .”
Majima: “. . . Really. I should change the location. The best stage for the best event is . . . I’ll contact ya in a moment, so please wait. The pickup will come soon.”
Daigo: “. . .”
----
Tumblr media
Daigo: “Here?”
Tumblr media
Audience: “Wow!!”
Ring Announcer: “L a d i e s   a n d   G e n t l e m e n ! ! We suddenly have a special match tonight! Tojo Clan’s Sixth Chairman, Dojima Daigo VS  the patriarch of the Majima Family directly under the Tojo Clan and the Mad Dog of Shimano, Majima Goro! The battle for the chairmanship is about to begin!!”
Audience: “Oh~~~~~~!”
Tumblr media
Daigo: “Wh-What is this . . .?”
Majima: “A special match. Isn’t it more exciting to do it this way?”
Daigo: “Heh. How like you . . .”
Majima: “Time to say goodbye, Daigo-chan!!”
{Daigo and Majima fight in the ring, presumably shirts off. Daigo . . . very much does not win.}
Tumblr media
Daigo: (Damn . . . of course . . . he’s incredibly . . . strong . . .)
Majima: “After all that, Daigo-chan, it wasn’t enough. this is how it turns out.”
Daigo: “No, not yet!”
Tumblr media
Majima: “Hmph. Let go.”
{Majima kicks Daigo.}
Daigo: “Guh!! Damn it!”
Majima: “Can’t be. I shouldn’t hit ya that way. It’s too full of holes!!”
{Majima kicks Daigo again.}
Daigo: “Gah! Guwaaaaaa!!”
Ring Announcer: “Oops, Dojima Daigo is  d o w n !”
Tumblr media
Majima: “This is the end!! Uoryaaaaaaaaa!!”
{Majima kneedrops Daigo in the head.}
Daigo: “~~Gah!!!!”
Ring Announcer: “The Mad Dog of Shimano’s ruthless kneedrop downed Dojima Daigo with a direct hit to the skull!!”
Daigo: (No . . . I can’t beat . . . this person . . .)
Majima: “It’s over, Daigo-chan. The Tojo Clan is mine.”
Daigo: “. . .”
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “Daigo, you are strong. You have the strength not to give in to violence or power. Now, with the Tojo Clan exhausted by the conflict against the Omi, we need a strong leader like you.”
Daigo: “A strong leader . . .”
Kiryu: “You will surely unite the Tojo Clan. I believe so.”
Tumblr media
Daigo: (. . . I see. So that’s what you meant, Kiryu-san.  . . . Strength is not just about power. The strength of Kiryu-san that I admired . . . is so much more than that!!)
Tumblr media
Majima: “Wh-What?!”
Daigo: “. . . Haa . . . Haa . . . Majima-san, it’s still . . . it’s still not over yet!!”
Majima: “Hn. Ya talk big. Uooryaaaaaaaaa!!”
Daigo: “Guh!!”
Majima: “Good . . . now stay down, Daigo-chan!!”
Daigo: “No, I can’t lose. I can’t afford to lose!”
Majima: “Wh-What are you doing? Are you really going this far for the Tojo Clan and Sasaki?!”
Daigo: “. . . Majima-san, I finally understand now. What Kiryu-san expected from me and entrusted to me.”
Majima: “Wh-What?”
Daigo: “I will not give in to violence, because there is something to protect. But. If I succumb to you here, I would be recognizing that violence rules. I can’t admit that . . . so I can’t back down!!”
Majima: “!! . . . Hopeless. Daigo-chan, you . . . Being great . . . it’s hard. Meeting Kiryu-chan’s expectations.”
Daigo: “?”
{Majima falls to the ground.}
Ring Announcer: “Wh-What the hell is this?! Majima has fallen?!”
Daigo: “!”
Majima: “I lost. I’ve been completely defeated. Daigo-chan has crushed me.”
Ring Announcer: “Th-This is . . . the Mad Dog of Shimano has been torn downnnnn!! A miraculous reversal by Dojima Daigoooo!!”
{The crowd cheers.}
Daigo: “Majima-san, you promised. From now on, follow me. Okay?”
Majima: “. . . Yeah. Do whatever ya want with me. I entrust my life to Daigo-chan. Really, you’re a great man, Daigo-chan. It’s your win.”
{The crowd goes wild.}
----
A few weeks later. . .
Tumblr media
Tojo Clan Member A: “Hey, have you heard the rumor? It’s said that the chairman disciplined a rampaging Majima with an iron fist.”
Tojo Clan Member B: “Ah, really? I can’t believe it.”
Tojo Clan Member A: “But lately, the Majima Family patriarch has been listening to the Sixth Chairman, and quietly does as he is told.”
Tojo Clan Member B: “No way, the Mad Dog of Shimano deferring to that boy?”
Majima’s voice: “Who is this ‘boy’?”
Tojo Clan Member B: “P-Patriarch Majima . . .”
Tumblr media
Majima: “As long as my eyes are black, rebellion against the Sixth Chairman won’t be forgiven!!”
Tojo Clan Member B: “Hiii. I’ll be careful!”
Majima: “Hmph. Just rumors, at most.”
----
Tumblr media
Sasaki: “I’m really sorry!! For me . . . to do such a thing . . .”
Daigo: “It wasn’t for you. I did what I should as the chairman.”
Sasaki: “But my betrayal this time can’t be forgiven! I will atone here as a yakuza!!”
Daigo: “Can you even use your fingers? I don’t need you to do such a thing.”
Sasaki: “But . . . !!”
Daigo: “With the Tojo Clan exhausted after the conflict with the Omi, we need as many people as possible. We do not allow acts that will impair it. Work frantically if you want the chance to remove your finger.”
Sasaki: “S-Sixth Chairman . . .”
Tumblr media
Kashiwagi: “Everything worked out as you expected.  . . . Majima.”
Majima: “Whatcha mean?”
Kashiwagi: “The Mad Dog of Shimano that rampages as he likes, obeys when the Sixth Chairman punishes him . . . For the newly appointed Daigo who has no backing yet, that legend will become his strongest backing in leading the Tojo Clan. In preparation of that, didn’t you rampage around just so you can challenge Daigo to a one-on-one battle?”
Majima: “. . . You’re overthinking it. I just do what I want to do and I did it.”
Kashiwagi: “Hmph. So you did.”
Majima: “I was convinced and have accepted him as the Sixth Chairman. That guy is worthy to lead the Tojo Clan.  . . . Daigo-chan is real. More of a worthy man than I thought.”
Kashiwagi: “. . . Yeah. Maybe Kiryu had seen Daigo’s worth . . .”
Tumblr media
Daigo: (The rebuilding of the Tojo Clan is just getting started.  . . . Kiryu-san, please watch. The future of the Tojo Clan that you protected, I will take over and show you.)

Son of Bia | Demigod!Nakamoto Yuta
Tumblr media
Parent Deity: Bia (Goddess of Power, Anger, and Raw Energy)
Allegiance: Zeus
“My power is no fucking illusion.”
Easily Yuta’s favorite quote
He has been in and out of different martial arts programs since he was able to stand
Everything from Judo to Aikido
He’s done it
Right now he is currently working on boxing because he got to see Daigo Higa live (at one of his KOs) and he instantly fell in love with the art
So Yuta is one of the few kids to have known that he was a demigod since he was really young
The only others are Jaemin and Jisung
His dad was a martial artist and he had grown up in and out of gyms since he was 3 years old
And his mom was actually around until he was about 15
So from about 5 years old on, he was aware that he had a goddess as a mother
His parents never tried to hide it from him
But he wasn’t claimed until he was 15
It’s a long story
To shorten it up
His mother was forced to return to Olympus to carry out orders given by Zeus
But like a week later he had this huge aikido competition
And boy was just in a slump
Like he almost got KO’ed with a kick to the head
Which NEVER happens
It hurt his pride
As a martial artist and as his mother’s son
His father was with him, telling him his mother was looking down and cheering him on
But Yuta just couldn’t feel it
But this warmth of home just surrounded him
And in the metal of the locker door, he caught sight of a shimmering chain and feather above his head
His father gave him a huge smile
And he could feel his mother with him again
That last match of the day was the best he has ever performed
So
Yes, he has been aware of his godly heritage for a long time
But he had never been to camp before
But once you are claimed your scent becomes like 20x stronger
So at the age of 19 his parents decided to send him to the camp for the summer
Yuta was realllllyyyyy against this
His whole argument was
I’ve known who I was for so long, why the hell are you making me go to some group therapy session 14 years later.
His mind changed the 3rd day at camp
Okay the first day he was just in a pissy mood and almost punched the Camp Medic but that almost got him into a brawl with some son of Zelus, who just happened to be his cousin
The second day he was still in a pissy mood but now he also had a black eye so he was even more grouchy
But the third day was life changing
Some Ares kid who was like 12 years old ran up to him and begged him to come join him and his cabin in the training rink
And Yuta followed because, an octagon? Hell yes
The Ares camp leader agreed to work on some aikido moves with the kids and Yuta agreed to be his opponent
He suddenly remembered why he loved martial arts
And why he loved his parents
So soon he made up with Sicheng and actually became really close to that Zelus kid, Xuxi
And after that he was considered the best fighter in camp
He had led a few missions, once accompanied by Xuxi’s girlfriend and they almost got into another brawl but it’s cool. Xuxi is just overprotective
He was also co-captain for the Ares house during competitions
So after his 4th year back at camp
This time he started up a makeshift boxing gym in the training facility and was helping some of the more academically inclined demigods train
And by academically inclined he means nerds but Taeyong yelled at him for that so
You just happened to be one of those academically inclined individuals
But you weren’t horrible in the athletic department either
As a daughter of Hermes you were quite mischievous
Which meant you needed to know how to get out of tight situations fast
So your stamina was incredible
But as for strength
You were screwed if you had to put up a fight for some reason
So you decided to seek help in Yuta
The lessons that the camp allowed him to teach weren’t as rigorous as he would like to be
But at the same time he was so amazed at how many people were actually interested in the sport that he loved so much
So you were basically the quiet girl in the back of the room unless one of your friends was in the class with you
Then you became the life of the party
But Yuta honestly wanted to see you be the life of the party all the time
Like you made classes so much more brighter
And he was learning that with a little bit more practice you could have quite the heavy hand on you
To say you didn’t admire Yuta would be a lie
A HUGE lie
As Jisung (a young camper you had taken under your wing) would say it
“You are so whipped.”
Like whipped to the point that
You would go to the gym more often to workout and watch him work out
Stop your half-siblings from pulling dangerous pranks on the Bia cabin
Work with Sicheng and Xuxi more, along with Jaehyun
And Yuta was doing the exact same thing
Silently moving closer to you in the gym while he was working out
Hanging out with the Hermes kids more in attempts to pull pranks on other houses
Hanging out in the med center and courtyard more often
Honestly Sicheng was at another screaming point that if the two of you didn’t kiss soon he was going to force it.
Thankfully Jaehyun already had that under control
Today was one of your off days from helping Sicheng in the Med Center but you were also really close with his girlfriend so you offered to help while you were waiting for her to finish up
Yuta on the other hand was outside the camp in a taekwondo tournament with Jaehyun for ‘moral support’ (someone to help his beat ass home)
He won but he had multiple lacerations on his face and what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder
Hobbling in with the help of Jaehyun was no surprise to Sicheng or his girlfriend, who both just put down whatever they were doing and Sicheng gliding across the floor on his wheely chair (Sicheng loves his wheely chair) while she just went to work gathering saline solution, gauze and other things
But for you
This was a BIG surprise
Sure you were used to seeing Yuta with the constant bandage on his jaw and gauze around his ankle or wrist
But this was the first time that you had seen what had come before the clean up
It was actually something Yuta tried to hide from you
He didn’t want to make you feel like he led a violent life, it was just that as the type of athlete he was, he just had to roll with the punches… and kicks… and slams
And you were just there standing in the middle of the Med Center with your jaw tight to stop from tears welling while Sicheng and everyone else acted like this was a normal day’s occurrence
You were also used to seeing the constant smirk or resting bitch face plastered across his stoic features
But he was wincing every time his shoulder moved and looked ready to yell at Sicheng for pouring Saline into a cut
Yet when he looked up at you
He gave a small smile
Something about that brought you back to reality
You rushed over and began examining his shoulder, and relocated after making sure his collarbone wasn’t broken or anything
After Sicheng finished he called his girlfriend over and they walked out with Jaehyun following close behind
You weren’t supposed to see that.
The statement caught you off guard.
Why?
I don’t want you to see the pain I deal with and to think I live a violent life because of it.
His head dropped just low enough for his overgrown bangs to hide the expression melting onto his features
I don’t think you live a violent life.
You don’t?
I think you live your life to the fullest, I think you go after what your heart desires, I think you want to push your mind and body to their very limits. I don’t think that’s violent.
For some reason after that conversion you two just knew that you were together
It was very unspoken but it was there
He still hated you show you his wounds
But he begged you to show him yours
He still acted shy in the gym
But smiled a million times brighter when you were in the ring with him
He lived for the moments of adrenaline rush inside an octagon
But prayed for the moments he stepped out the ring and into your arms
He was still the same old Yuta
He was still constantly fighting
He was still constantly on missions
He was still everything that you fell in love with
But there was something different
He wanted to show you off to everyone
He made you meet his parents (mortal and deity – at the same dinner table)
He wanted to talk about apartments and universities
He was in for the long haul
Like one night you had snuck into the Bia cabin since Hermes had just gotten 3 new campers who couldn’t sleep
And you were sitting on opposite sides of the bed, legs tangled together just talking
He was in his oversized white t-shirt and cookie monster pajama shorts
You were in a jacket of his and leggings
And it felt right to him
Gods he would never admit it to anyone else
But he found the piece of him that was missing when his mother had to leave
He just blurted it out
25379 Songjam-ro gil, Seongbuk-dong, Seoul
What?
It’s an apartment, it’s really nice, really close to camp, close to campus, big enough, I placed first year’s rent yesterday.
OH MY GODS YUTA DO YOU EVEN HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY?
I’ve been saving for a while.
What are you even going to do with it?
I got it for the both of us. We’ve been talking about moving in together and I don’t see why we can’t now. I really want this.
He seemed so excited telling you about it
How could you say no?
Everyone gets together for a small house warming party and it’s a disaster
Sicheng is drunk screaming about how it fucking took long enough
Mark is crying in the corner because his hyung is leaving him
Taeyong his about to pull his hair out
Doyoung is force feeding Jaehyun wine???
Taeil is trying to make Mark stop crying
Johnny and Ten are dancing on your new couch
But Yuta and you are in your own world
And everything just feels right…

Hey, it’s me again! ^_^ I hope I don’t bother you too much with my requests, but your posts are so cool I just can’t help it. Upon completing Yakuza 4 I’ve had a lot of thoughts and feels about Daigo and how his character was handled across the series. To be honest, at first I didn’t like him much, because he seemed pretty bland (and his screen time leaves much to be desired), but soon enough he’s really grown on me. What is your opinion on him if you don’t mind me asking?
I definitely do not mind requests! Meta is my bread and butter c: I’ve just been busy for a few days, sorry ^^; And... my opinions on Daigo are not going to be as mindblowing or exciting as my opinions on Kiryu, I’ll be real ^^; And there’s a big advantage in Kiryu being the protag, All of the content is about him ^^; I do love Daigo, I think he’s a super interesting character, but his tragedy is just what you pointed out, he’s underutilized. And he isn’t set up very well to have the position he holds.
But, so saying, let’s get into my essay on Daigo ^^;
So, we meet Daigo properly in game 2. There’s little side stories with baby Daigo in Zero which helps build Daigo’s and Kiryu’s relationship and set up for what would later happen, but we don’t really know him until game 2. And game 2 is a LOT about Daigo and his arc and what he’s meant to be! There’s a tumblr text post meme somewhere with a pic of Daigo depressed in his little puffy white coat that says “And I’ll probably become the next chairman of the Tojo Clan. Things like that just happens to guys like me.” and that is totally accurate! Like, it’s a funny thing to complain about, but that’s obviously the struggle Daigo’s having, understanding from a young age that it was obviously his destiny to succeed Sohei, the only problem is uh... well... Kiryu.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Dojima Sohei never became chairman of the Tojo Clan. And that’s really wild thinking back to Zero and how powerful he was, he was all but a shoo in for chairman. But then, uh... Kiryu. Kiryu happened. Kiryu, and Majima I should say, are the reason Sera becomes chairman, not Sohei. Forever upsetting the wheels of fate. Given where we see Sohei next, I can’t imagine that he ever really recovered from that upset ^^; And I’m SURE it made him bitter towards Kiryu the rest of his life. And considering, again, where we see him next, I think the canon supports this ^^;
So what becomes of Daigo’s destiny then? His father had victory snatched away, destiny denied, and everything he had slowly crumbles over time, leaving his son with less and less to inherit, but still with the ideology that he should take this over. That’s an awkward position to be in.
And then Sera dies. Ooh, golly, I wonder who the next chairman’s gonna- it’s Kiryu. Of course it’s fucking Kiryu, how could it not be? It OBVIOUSLY should be Kiryu. He’s the strongest, the bravest, and who inspires the most loyalty. It doesn’t matter that Kiryu’s never been in leadership before, he TURNS people. Kiryu could get anyone on his side through sheer force of personality, which is hilarious to say about a guy with maybe 3 facial expressions. But tell me I’m wrong. I cannot count the number of part-time antagonists who turned on a dime because Kiryu beat their ass. And anyone who can do that can rule the world. Kiryu was absolutely the best pick for chairman and I will fight the world on this.
(Abbreviated for length, this is a LONG post)
But... then Kiryu makes the stupidest decision of his entire fucking life and renounces the chairmanship. And he has his reasons, feeling unworthy, traumatized from the events of Kiwami 1, unsure if he even wants to stay in the yakuza or if there’s maybe something else he wants to do with his life... he’s going through a lot of intense self-reflection and self-doubt and, I hate to harp on it, but fucking trauma. His brother blew himself up in front of him in a bid for redemption after all but telling Kiryu that all of his mistakes are Kiryu’s fault. Yeah, no, I’m sure Kiryu’s doing FINE with that. So, like, I can see why Kiryu said no, but it was still... fucking nuts. And it irrevocably changed the trajectory of everyone in this universe. Which Kiwami 2 goes out of its way to explore. Kiryu’s leaving? Majima fucking retires, Terada’s suspect, there aren’t any old, loyal hands left to lead the families, and we see how vulnerable the Tojo clan is on every side because Kiryu just up and fucked off.
(I have A LOT of feelings about Kiryu being chairman and someday I will have the strength to write the AU we all deserve where Kiryu stays as chairman)
So... the wheel of fate turns and oh yeah remember Daigo? Dojima Sohei’s son Daigo? The kid who’s been raised his whole life to take over the clan only to be denied at every turn? How’s he doing? Not great! It turns out, not great! Kiryu, his father figure, killed his ACTUAL father, but didn’t really, took the blame for some other weird guy, leaving Daigo with one badass mother and very little direction in life. Daigo’s been brought up thinking he’ll take over a great kingdom but all that’s left now is a broken wreck about to be demolished and picked apart by scavengers. Great, yeah, just what any kid wants to inherit. And he wasn’t trained to fix this, it’s kinda shitty to saddle him with destiny and then not train him for the thing that actually has to be done and then do it anyway. It’s real shitty actually. And not many people help Daigo.
Daigo couldn’t have taken the chairmanship directly from Sera, he was still just a teenager then. But it probably would have been nice if Kiryu checked in with him even fucking once since getting out of jail. But no, we never explain on screen to Daigo what happened as far as I can remember. Which, I feel, is a pretty fucking big oversight. How the fuck is Daigo supposed to trust you Kiryu? Or we’re supposed to believe he just figured it out off screen and holds no grudges? Like, I’m sure knowing Kiryu didn’t kill Sohei helps, but he couldn’t fucking tell you that himself? He couldn’t trust you with that information or that conversation? Fuck this. Very understandably, Daigo has his own crisis of faith about the yakuza, very much in parallel to Kiryu’s. Why the fuck SHOULD he go to bat for a crumbling organization that has only proven itself to be a dog chasing its own tail, willing to devour itself at the slightest provocation? It took his father, both his fathers, and he didn’t really get either of them back. Why the fuck should he try to fix that?
And to its credit, Kiwami 2 does a decent job of articulating Daigo’s motivations there. I could have done with even more, but I think they do him credit in showing him as disenfranchised and lost. And I think it’s refreshing to see someone have to confront the consequences of what’s happened since Kiryu left. Because the games don’t do a good job of showing that this is Kiryu’s direct fault. They never like to make Kiryu’s decisions have consequence, which is poor use of a protag. Rightly or wrongly, their decisions ALWAYS have consequence, or they’re not the protag. You can’t have it both ways. If this person is going to matter then, guess what, their consequences matter. Kiryu turned away. Rightly or wrongly, he did that. Daigo will never get that opportunity. Child of destiny. Not only was he bred and raised for this, he doesn’t know how to do anything else either. He doesn’t have other options the way Kiryu does. And we’re in a terrible vacuum of power. Terada’s namely in charge, but no one’s loyal to him. Even if he wasn’t deliberately fostering this, the Tojo Clan can’t survive without faith in their leader. Daigo, by fact of being his fathers’ son, can bind what’s left. And he has to because Kiryu won’t. Which is... really shitty. So either Daigo does this, or we all hang. And we never quite articulate that this is on Kiryu’s say so. Kiryu could still take over now and fix it he just... won’t.
And on top of this already comfortably stressful situation... we set Daigo up to come into a stable situation of power, where his transition would be smooth. We didn’t give him the tools to know how to salvage. He’s not practiced negotiating with hostile entities or even just people who will resent him because he’s young. And he’s lost a lot of faith, without even charisma and willpower on his side, this is a massively uphill battle. If he doesn’t believe, who else will believe him? Daigo knows this. And we watch that struggle go on, all while Kiryu just cheerleads. He hasn’t decided yet if he’s gonna stay in the yakuza either and he’s lowkey depressed after Kiwami 1. Lowkey he’s just suffering depression and can’t do as much as he normally would. Not an excuse, but I think an important way to read how tired and reluctant he is. Some therapy would really fucking help.
Anyway, we manage to get through Kiwami 2 and install Daigo as chairman, at which point Kiryu fucks off for good. Now, he kinda/sorta leaves some supports for Daigo, in Majima specifically, but also in Kashiwagi and I wanna believe in Daigo’s mom too. She was so cool and then we just... never talked about her again ^^; Laaaame *sigh* So, I guess, Kiryu did try to fulfill his remaining responsibilities as Daigo’s living father, but mostly it was just an excuse for him to leave and not feel guilty. Mostly it was him foisting off his duties onto someone else. He didn’t stay to teach Daigo everything he knew about the people Daigo would have to control. He didn’t teach Daigo and Majima how to talk to each other, a thing which REPEATEDLY comes back to bite us in the ass. He’s not there for Daigo to ask advice and help. Kiryu is full of confidence for Daigo, he’s not TRYING to make him fail, but Kiryu’s so caught up in his own need to leave, he neglects to people who need him.
And Daigo, to his everlasting credit, does his best to get by without Kiryu’s help. As much as possible, he never calls to ask Kiryu for help. And he does grow into a quite competent chairman! He does successfully rehabilitate the Tojo Clan, he makes them profitable again, he insists on respect and people don’t run amok under him. He does it, he salvages a dying organization. And he may not even really believe in it, but he has such a sense of responsibility, he does it anyway. He knows there’s no one else. He knows if he goes to Kiryu and says I don’t want this, Kiryu won’t help him. Kiryu didn’t mean for it to happen this way, he didn’t mean to be selfish and put others in a bad position. But he wasn’t there to listen. And I think Kiryu eventually comes to rue that.
The very unfortunate thing about Kiryu is... he is a dragon. Even though he is kind and generous and not greedy in a conventional sense, he is greedy. As much as Kiryu is a powerhouse because come hell or high water, he does what he thinks is right... this also makes him extremely selfish. He can be blind to other people’s needs and refused to be tied down. Again, for the best of reasons, because he’s trying to raise a family, because this environment is triggering for him, but he just hauls off and does things instead of talking to anyone which... makes him impossible to have a working relationship with. He has to learn to talk and to listen and that he can’t make all of the decisions by himself. The great irony being, Kiryu never wants to, but he doesn’t know how to ask for help. He’s so used to have everything put on him, he doesn’t realize it doesn’t have to be that way... but anyway, I’m getting caught up ^^; The point is, he thinks because he ditched the Tojo Clan they no longer care about him. Which is... naive at best. Of course people still care about you dumbass. Which makes Kiryu a massive vulnerability to the Tojo. In 3 and 4, Daigo makes stupid calls trying to protect Kiryu and trying to protect his interests. And because Kiryu hasn’t left open an avenue for them to talk, Daigo has to make these decisions on his own with bad information and he does his fucking best. But... he doesn’t know how to make the best of what he has, not like Kiryu would, and he fucks up sometimes.
I really, really love game 4 for that reason. Daigo’s fuck up is SO understandable, SO reasonable. It sounded like a good idea, it sounded like peace and harmony. And he was left without a leg to stand on before he knew it. In many ways, it wasn’t his fault. Kiryu himself says as much. And I may never forgive the end of 4 for letting Kiryu REALIZE he defaulted on his responsibilities but then, instead of changing his behavior in any way, he fucks off back to Okinawa. God... *siiiigh* ANYWAY.
And this struggle, this lack of communication, but unstated loyalty, comes full circle in game 5. When Daigo is literally drowning, literally knows he’s going to fail this time and there’s nothing he can do, and even when he’s with Kiryu, he can’t bring himself to ask for help. He knows Kiryu won’t or can’t. Instead he asks for absolution. He tries to tell his dad he’s just been doing his best and... he’s sorry for the terrible things that are about to happen. How gutting that Daigo can only see himself as a failure because... he’s not Kiryu. No one’s Kiryu. Even Kiryu refuses to be Kiryu. But Daigo knows if he was just Kiryu, things would be better. He’s not a legend. He’s not a god. He’s not all-powerful or crazy or impossible. He’s just a guy, doing his best because he had to. Because there was no one else. And some days Daigo does great, but a lot of days, he doesn’t measure up. And that eats at Daigo like mold. Kiryu would NEVER look at Daigo this way. Heck, most people at that point would never compare them. It’s in Daigo’s head, but it still hurts. He’s still, even now, looking up to Kiryu and he’ll just... never quite get there.
This is the only good thing I will ever say about game 6, and it was still 2 or 3 games too late, but Kiryu finally acknowledging Daigo as his son was good. Kiryu saying he was proud and saying he was grateful was good. Again, several games late, but... it still mattered. It still mattered that, in the end, Kiryu recognized his legacy in Daigo. That he understood so much of what Daigo did and does and is and was is for him. That mattered.
Daigo is a great chairman who takes care of his clan. But he was robbed of his relationship with his father. The games never work on the relationships that exist, strong relationships, for reasons I will never understand. Games 3, 4, and 5 would have been SO much more interesting if we had just like Kiryu talk to his fucking friends. Two would have been SO much easier if Kiryu had just been fucking chairman like he was fucking supposed to be and the transition of power to Daigo came later and smoother, with Kiryu helping to make it. Daigo tries his hardest every day and he’s an incredible negotiator and savior after all the shit he’s had to pull the Tojo Clan through, kicking and screaming and fighting to tear itself apart every damn day. The generation above him is all legends, Majima and Saejima and Kiryu. Daigo isn’t one of them. But he’s better because he was here and because he tries and because he succeeds. We need Daigo. We deserve him.

Oh, hey, forgot to post this here - Mob Part 3 is up (and part 4 is on its way).
Summary : Something happened after Haruka’s concert. (PART 2) (AO3 Link)
 3 - BLAME
Eventually, people left him alone.
They had tried their best, but since he had refused their help, they decided to give him some space. He was more than alright with that. Not that "alright" could ever be a word he would use to describe himself. Not anymore.
He felt numb. Disconnected from it all.
All the events of the past few days - the concert, the crowd, the call he received in the middle of that fateful night, the sleepless nights where he almost choked because he couldn't stop crying, the funeral... He remembered living those things, but when he thought about them, he felt like a spectator watching them from afar. Not an actor, but a powerless observer, a blurry silhouette who was barely floating above those horrible scenes.
On his good days, the days where he was more or less aware of his surroundings, the awful numbness of loss was replaced by a burning anger. On those days, he started to think about the people he blamed.
He had managed to get his hands on an impressive number of newspapers and magazines. The hyenas who worked for those rags must have had a field day with this disaster - a lot of ink has been spilled over this, and it didn't look like it was going to stop anytime soon. Good. Every new article fueled his anger, made something warm shake his numb, freezing body.
Sometimes, he would see her name in those papers. His own name, too. The sight of it made him sick, and he usually skimmed past it. He didn't want to know what the idiots writing them thought about him and his pain. More often than not, her name was replaced by a number. Lumped together with the rest of the poor souls who lost everything that night. He wasn't sure he liked that better.
The journalists who were feeling exceptionally bold sometimes talked about the yakuza. He kept those articles close. In one of them, he had seen the face of that man for the first time. The buff, scary looking guy in a bad suit. The "Dragon", a big name in the yakuza world, who had apparently moved away from it all years ago. The fucker whose stupid daughter's speech ruined everything. Kazuma Kiryu.
It was so much easier to hate someone when you knew what they looked like.
**********************************
Kiryu had fought many formidable foes in all his years in (and out) the business. Deadly, dangerous men who were out to get him, monsters who wanted to hurt his family. Yet, none of them hit him as hard as the shitty little TV in his hospital room.
Whenever he was back in his room, when very tired nurses managed to drag him away from Haruka so that he'd try to rest for once, he would turn the bloody thing on. No matter what time it was then, it felt like he always managed to find a channel that talked about the concert.
Even though his various babysitters always tried to turn the TV off, to distract him from it somehow, Kiryu seemed to always come back to it. That thing was hypnotizing. He only stopped when he left the room. Or when a particularly pissed Majima threatened to explode the screen with his baseball bat.
Still, Kiryu watched those programs diligently, listening to all the people who had something to say about this whole mess with all the focus he could muster.
Seeing some of the people who were in the crowd that night talk and listening to their retelling of it left him weirdly numb.
The enemies he had faced before were, well, people. They had names, stories, reasons to act the way they did. They were tangible, something Kiryu could punch. Defeat. Forgive. He could do no such thing with a mob. There was no big guy who had orchestrated the whole disaster, no mastermind who ran things in the shadows. No one he could easily blame, fight, and move on from.
For some reason, this lack of a proper target made him resent everyone else.
Kiryu thought himself to be a pretty forgiving person. Those feelings rearing their ugly heads were definitely new, and he didn't really know what to do with them. He mostly kept them bottled up, though, because that's what he usually did with unknown feelings, but it was starting to get tiring. Blaming everyone only made it clearer than no one was to blame, and that made him somehow angrier.
Still, that's what he did.
He blamed himself, first and foremost, as it was the easiest thing to do. He shouldn't have let Haruka go, shouldn't have left the orphanage, shouldn't have left that Park woman come into their home... Oh, he wanted to blame Park herself, of course, but being dead shielded her from his rage. Mostly.
Thinking about their last discussion, before she chased him from his home, was somehow too much for him to process anyway, so he mostly tried to banish her from his thoughts. Which was not exactly easy because every time he saw Majima, he was reminded of the fact that he didn't find it necessary to warn him about her and her history with him. So, naturally, he blamed Majima for that. Among other things, including faking his own death, forcing Kiryu to come out of hiding.
He blamed Saejima and Akiyama, for pulling their annoying "let's fight together" bullshit again and making him believe this would work. It didn't. So he blamed them and their stupid plan, he blamed-
Kiryu took a deep breath, focusing once more on the TV screen. All this anger was exhausting, and he was feeling dizzy already. Oh, that was another one - he blamed his stupid body for being messed up and forcing him to lay still, when all he wanted was to do something, anything, to get his mind out of it.
The TV, showing no mercy, was still going with various interviews when he saw the crying man.
A big guy, with shaking shoulders and his head down, mumbling something as he shook.
Kiryu felt a bit too ill to really listen to what he said, which didn't matter because he couldn't take his eyes off that man. A small text at the bottom of the screen finally managed to catch his attention, and he felt a heavy lump in his throat as he realized what he was looking at.
That guy's daughter was among the four people who died that night. She was fourteen.
As if he knew Kiryu was watching, the man suddenly looked straight into the camera, and the pain in those eyes hit him hard. As if he had been stung, Kiryu immediately stood up, ignoring his stiff body's complaints and bolted out of the room.
He slammed the door behind him, and, taking the time to appreciate that no one was standing guard to see him completely freak out, decided he would not go to Haruka’s room. On his worst days, Kiryu would blame her, too, looking at her sleeping form with uncontrollable anger. He didn't want to go there when he was already this agitated, so he started limping through the corridors.
He had been allowed recently to use crutches to move around, which were replacing the wheelchair. He was shaking, though, so perhaps that it wasn't such an improvement. Collapsing in the middle of the hospital didn't exactly sound like a good idea. Walking at random in the corridors to escape his TV screen was also not a good idea, but Kiryu was already too deep in thoughts to decide to turn away.
As he kept moving blindly, trying to calm down while not losing his already fragile balance, he was startled by a man inexplicably bowing down as he passed. Kiryu found himself blinking at the guy, dumbfounded, before he noticed the Tojo pin on his lapel, and the small, almost inaudible “Fourth Chairman” he had whispered. Right. Just your average Tojo clan goon, lost in a random hospital hallway.
Well, maybe not that random. There was another man standing at the other end of the corridor, staring at him with wide eyes, and a third in the middle, his arms crossed as he stood near the closed door. Before Kiryu could ask himself why that particular hallway was packed with yakuza, the guy had hurriedly knocked on the door and opened it just as fast, getting inside in an instant.
The man who had bowed down to him straightened up, his voice hesitant as he asked, “Have you come to talk with the Sixth Chairman, Sir?”
Not really, no. In fact, if Kiryu could not speak with anyone for the next 24 hours, that would be great. Still, he frowned. “I thought Daigo’s room was a few floors up.”
“It is, but the chairman is visiting his friend.”
Friend.
Kiryu had a vague memory of Akiyama introducing Shinada as “a friend of Daigo”, something that felt like it had happened in another lifetime. And, now that he was thinking about it, someone (Akiyama again, or Saejima, he wasn’t sure) had told him the man had been admitted here after the mob roughed him up. Having been pretty much trampled by the angry crowd, he had been lucky to make it out with, to Kiryu’s knowledge, only a few broken bones and a ton of bruises. Beaten up, but still alive. Conscious, even.
Unlike Haruka.
Kiryu felt something flick in his mind, and suddenly talking didn’t seem like such a bad idea after all. He had been eating up footage of the incident for days now, listening to all the people who wanted to share what they had lived, and while it surely left an impression on him, the last example having been enough to send him running for the hills, it was not enough anymore.
He started moving again, careful not to fall, feeling heavy already after only having been using the crutches for a couple minutes. Not that he cared what the bodyguards would think if he collapsed in front of them. That would give them something fun to share with their fellow Tojo buddies.
Annoyingly enough, Kiryu had barely made two steps when he was stopped in his tracks again.
“Fourth Chairman.”
It wasn’t like he was surprised to see Daigo come out of the door, greeting him with an uncharacteristic anxious edge to his voice. His bodyguard had more or less already said he was in there, but Kiryu still couldn’t help but think there was something odd about this encounter. Maybe it was the fact that Daigo was still using a wheelchair, making Kiryu tower above him. Maybe it was the way he was looking at him now, his whole body tense as if he was expecting some kind of confrontation. Kiryu hadn’t seen this kind of hostility in Daigo’s eyes in years, but mostly, the man looked tired. Worried, too. Kiryu felt his own anger fade away slightly, as he got closer, wincing when  a sharp pain on his left side reminded him not to move so quickly.
“Looks like things aren’t going so well for either of us, Sixth Chairman.” he said, realizing they were not exactly the two yakuza big names they usually were, but just two wounded idiots staring at each other in a hospital hallway. The bodyguards were following the scene, looking nervous. Kiryu wondered if they were worried a fight was going to break out. He didn’t really think that was a possibility. Apart from throwing one of his crutches like a spear, which would certainly make him fall, he didn’t see how he could be a threat, right now.
Kiryu cleared his throat, remembering what he was doing here in the first place. “I came to talk with Shinada.” This wasn’t a question or a request. Maybe he was threatening, after all.
“I don’t think that would be wise.” Daigo’s voice was low, his eyes drifting back to the door. “He’s still pretty shaken up by this whole mess. It’s still too soon.”
“Akiyama told me he was doing better.”
“He is, but… I’m afraid talking about this would be too much. For him… Or for you.”
That was new. Talking to him like that was not like Daigo at all, and Kiryu had to admit he would have been impressed, if he hadn’t been instantly annoyed by this. He resisted the urge to get closer, and instead stayed where he was as he asked, “Are you going to stop me, Daigo?”
“ I’m not sure I can. I guess I could roll on your foot if you take one more step, though.”
Kiryu was about to reply that he would definitely hit him with his crutch if that happened, when a voice he failed to recognize came from inside the room. “Let him in already, will you?”
With a heavy sigh, Daigo turned his chair around, letting just enough space so that Kiryu could get in.
Once he was inside, Kiryu realized something. This room was nearly identical to the one Haruka was in. Which wasn’t so surprising - hospital rooms tended to look alike. What made him tick was the silence in this room. No machines or respirator in here, and somehow, this angered him. He didn’t like the ferocity with which this thought had imposed itself on him, but as he looked at Shinada, able to breathe on his own and even having the gall to be conscious, staring back at him with wide eyes, Kiryu felt furious.
So that’s what he was doing, now. Blaming someone he barely knew for having the audacity to be in a better shape than his daughter. Kiryu supposed his sudden surge of animosity must have been noticeable, because all the certainty Shinada had when he asked him to come inside seemed to have vanished.
Now that he was really looking at the man laying in the bed in front of him, Kiryu had to admit he wasn’t exactly looking his best. He didn’t know Shinada enough to really tell the difference, having only met him once before the concert, but he didn’t remember him looking this exhausted. His face was covered in bruises, and part of it was still slightly swollen. Of course the simple fact that he was awake at all made him look healthier than Haruka, but he had clearly been through a lot. Feeling the anger quiet down for a bit, Kiryu greeted the man with a small nod of his head, unsure of what to say, suddenly.
“Well, let’s get on with it.” Daigo’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. “It’s late, already. You should both be getting some rest.”
And you’re not? Kiryu wanted to say, glaring at the corner of the room Daigo had retreated in. Kiryu had barely noticed he had gotten inside the room as well. Part of him wished he could have talked with Shinada alone, but he was somehow grateful that it wasn’t the case. He still felt agitated, ready to snap back at the smallest thing, so having some kind of onlooker in there was mildly reassuring. Still, Kiryu did not care much for his tone.
He was at least right on one thing. It was time to talk.
“Can you tell me what happened that night?” No preamble, no “hey how are you?”. Kiryu was not in the mood for small talk.
Shinada blinked, dumbstruck. “Haven’t… Haven’t they told you, already?”
“I want to hear it from someone who was actually there. I want to know how it could have come to this.”
He wasn’t wrong. Kiryu already knew more or less how it went. He had been filled in, and had seen enough from the news to fill in the blanks. He wasn’t sure why he suddenly felt like hearing it from Shinada’s mouth would be different, but he still felt a weird apprehension as he waited for the other man to answer.
It took him a couple of seconds, exchanging a worried look with Daigo from across the room, before he finally started. “I don’t… I don’t actually know how it began. The fight against that Baba guy had been harsh and since everything had gone well so far, I… I stayed behind for a minute. Caught my breath.”
Catching his breath. Losing precious minutes he could have used to grab Haruka before everything went downhill. Kiryu tried to be reasonable, reminding himself that he had never asked Shinada to actually get to Haruka after the concert. He was just supposed to stop the shooter. And he did. There was no real reason to blame him, as he had told himself countless times.
“When I left the Dome that’s when I realized something was up. It had already started then, and I heard the noises. The screams. People don’t make that kind of noise when they’re just leaving a concert, so I ran and-”
Though footage of the stampede no doubt existed, people having probably filmed it with their phones, the TV seemed to only show what happened after or before the mob was formed. Kiryu could only imagine the kind of racket thousands of people panicking and running everywhere would make. He frowned, feeling something boil inside him as he realized somewhere in all that noise, there might have been the voice of the child he swore he would protect.
He missed a sentence, and only came back to himself when Shinada started the next one. “It was crazy. It was like a sea of people, and they were everywhere, screaming and pushing and-”
With a nervous twitch in his eye, Shinada suddenly stopped talking. While he hadn’t talked that much yet, Kiryu noticed he seemed to be really agitated ever since he had started. He was breathing heavily now, eyes lost in some corner of the room.
He waited a few seconds for Shinada to catch his breath before he asked, “If you arrived after it had started, how did you end up caught in it?”
“Oh, uh. I heard some staff member guy yell something about one of their idols being lost in the crowd on his walkie-talkie. So I ran into the crowd.”
Somehow, Kiryu had never thought about all the people who were working there that night. Too busy focusing on Mirei Park and the fact that blaming her now was pointless, he had forgotten to add all the other folks who had worked with her to his now long list of people to blame. It was infuriating to think that between the staff members, the people of Dyna Chair who weren’t gruesomely murdered, the other idols and Shinada, all charged to keep her safe, Haruka had still been caught up in the mob.
“I thought “I’m a big tough guy, I can probably push my way into this” but that was really fucking stupid. There were hundreds of them, and everyone was panicking and running all over the place, I don’t-”
Kiryu knew that, had he been there that night, he would have ran into the angry crowd too, with no hesitation, no matter how stupid jumping right into a angry wave of people was. He wanted to believe he would have been able to fight it, too, to punch his way until he got to Haruka, but hearing the panic weaving its way into Shinada’s voice, his breath getting faster, he wasn’t so sure of it anymore. “I got knocked down pretty fast, and then I-”
There was another pause, and when Shinada talked again, it was with such a low voice Kiryu almost didn’t catch it. “It felt like drowning.”
“Enough.”
Having more or less forgotten that Daigo was in the room, Kiryu almost jumped as his hand landed on his shoulder. Apparently, while Kiryu had been busy focusing on Shinada’s retelling of the events, he had managed to drag himself from his chair, standing on his own though he was slightly hunched over, a hand pressed on his side. Kiryu would have yelled at him to sit back down, knowing that he had already messed up with his stitches at least once, but found that he couldn’t talk.
He was still stuck on Shinada’s last sentence.
  It felt like drowning.
Maybe it was the word “drowning”. It was visceral. Unpleasant. Kiryu felt sick as he wondered if that was how it had felt for Haruka, too.
Shinada had managed to find some of his composure back in the few tense seconds he took for Kiryu’s brain to finally start focusing on the scene again. Daigo’s hand was still on his shoulder, though he wasn’t sure if that was to get him to acknowledge him or if he was just leaning on him. Kiryu wanted to tell him to back off and sit down again before he hurt himself, but Shinada was faster, his breathing still somewhat erratic as he said, “It’s okay, Dojima, I can-”
“Kiryu.” Daigo ignored his friend’s attempt to stop him as he tried to straighten up, locking his eyes with Kiryu’s.   “What’s the point of this? You’re both still too tired to get upset about this. Let’s give it a rest.”
Upset.
The word sounded ridiculous when Kiryu could feel his anger threatening to overtake him at any moment. He was not “upset”, he was furious.
“You’re right.” He managed to blurt out, feeling somewhat nauseous all of a sudden. Maybe that he too could use some rest, that was the longest he had ever been standing up in days. He took a step back, careful not to lose his balance or make Daigo topple by removing himself from his grip too abruptly, giving Shinada one last look. “Thank you. I’ll let you rest.”
“Wait-” Shinada straightened up in his bed, trying to catch his eye. He was still talking too fast and breathing too hard, his voice cracking slightly as he said,  “I’m- I’m so sorry. I wish I could have done something to stop this.”
Kiryu had become something of an expert of empty, reassuring phrases after being fed so many of them in the past few days. He didn’t even look back as he walked out of the room, his voice probably harsher than he intended. “You did what you could. I can’t blame you.”
That was a lie, too. No matter how bad he felt seeing the man almost break down over the mere memory of the events, no matter how much he wanted to sympathize with him, Kiryu still blamed him. Like he blamed everyone. Like he blamed himself.
Feeling utterly sick with himself, he retreated to his room. The TV that he had left on when he ran away seemed to be taunting him, the bleak light it was projecting in the dark giving the room a ominous ambiance.
He punched the screen with such force that he almost broke his hand.
**********************************
Shinada had never been good at holding back his tears.
He had always cried easily, and never thought it useful to try to hide it.
Back in the day, he would cry when his baseball team won. Or when they lost. When he was banned after his first real game, he had wept for days. Some of these tears were also for his family, who had swore they would never talk to him again, but mostly, he was grieving the dream he was sure he had lost forever.
While he found many occasions to cry after that (being homeless for a while, being all alone, having no food for days, those kinds of things), Shinada had managed to more or less hold on for the past decades, and only cried every now and then.
The Dream Line concert had to be some kind of personal record. Shinada cried right after his fight against the shooter, overwhelmed by the adrenaline of it all, seeing the group perform from so far away while he was sitting in the stands, away from the spotlight. He also cried a few minutes later, when Takasugi’s call reminded him some people cared for him back in Nagoya. And, obviously, he cried after the incident, too. Because he was in pain, because he felt stupid and weak and useless. Because he blamed himself for what he was certain he could have prevented, had he been stronger.
Not crying while Kiryu, that man he had only just met and that he had still managed to disappoint, was standing in front of him, though? That was something. He could be proud.
Unfortunately, as soon as the door was closed behind Kiryu, he couldn’t hold it in anymore, and slumped back in his bed, and let out a small sob, knowing fully well he would be bawling his eyes out in a couple of seconds. Trying to delay the inevitable tears, he looked around, and was suddenly all too aware of Dojima still being in the room with him, standing awkwardly in the middle of it, looking at him with his usual stern expression.
It was not like Shinada minded him being here, really. If anything, he was grateful that he stuck around while Kiryu was there, a friendly face in a sea of hostility. As “friendly” as a scowling yakuza could get, at least. He supposed he should also be grateful for the way Dojima had insisted on bringing his interview with Kiryu to an early end. He couldn’t help but wish he could have said more, though. Apologized better. Still, he got him to leave the room right before Shinada hit his limit, so that was pretty great.
“Tatsuo…?”
Not expecting to hear his name hushed with such an hesitant tone, he took a second to wonder why Dojima was now looking at him with a slightly panicked expression.
Oh, right.
He  was  crying. He had barely noticed he had started to.
The room got more blurry now than actual tears were in his eyes, so much so that he almost missed Dojima dragging himself to his bed, gritting his teeth with each step. It only clicked in his mind that he had moved closer when he spoke again:
“Do you mind if I sit on your bed?”
Shinada shook his head. Sure, why not. The man should be sitting down, anyway, if his shaky steps were anything to go by. He still managed to get on the bed fairly quickly, making it creak under their combined weight.
A few seconds passed, the silence of the room disturbed by Shinada sniffing softly as he kept crying. Dojima said nothing, shifting awkwardly on the bed so that he was facing him, bending his body in a way that was probably not doing any good to his still healing bullet wound.
Shinada wasn’t sure why he suddenly felt overwhelmed by an urgent need for some kind of contact, but next thing he knew he had more or less collapsed in the other man’s arms. He felt Dojima stiffen against him, making him aware that perhaps entering the guy’s personal space like that without warning was a bit uncalled for. The man remained silent, though Shinada heard a very small gasp escape his lips.
Alright, so maybe he was out of line. No matter how shaken up he was, in pain and in tears, Shinada knew he wasn’t supposed to just throw himself at someone he hardly knew. Sure, technically Dojima and him had known each other for years, but they were not exactly friends back in high school. And their reunion had been so sudden that he barely had the time to process it. Vowing to protect each other’s dream meant they had  something , that much was certain, but Shinada wasn’t sure that would be the kind of relationship that involved offering a shoulder to cry on. Literally.
He could always stop, put some distance between them again. Apologize and blame it on the perfect blend of morphine and anguish in his body right now, making him a tad emotional. Dojima didn’t give him any time to back off though, wrapping his arms around him slowly. “Eh… Can I- I mean, do you…?”
Shinada wasn’t sure what he was asking. He wasn’t sure Dojima knew, either, with the way he was stammering. Still, he soon felt a hand stroking his back slowly, and that gesture was as soothing as it was unexpected. It was weird to think that last time those hands were on his body, they were in the middle of a full on brawl. The vicious punches he had received on that day suddenly felt very far away, replaced by a softness he would have never thought he’d see from his old classmate. He did look way less intimidating in his hospital gown, he had to admit. Maybe being shot just did that to people. Made them a bit more approachable. Or maybe he looked so pathetic right now that even the most cold-hearted criminal couldn’t resist him. Who knew. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, he simply appreciated the fact he was offering some kind of comforting presence.
He allowed himself a few heartbeats to reposition himself, burying his face in the man’s chest before he returned to the task at hand.
Crying.
He cried because Kiryu blamed him, despite what he told him, he was certain of it. Because he blamed himself, too, obviously. Because he was exhausted, not having had a good night of sleep since the incident, waking up in a cold sweat every time he dozed off, his nightmare haunted by an angry crowd.
“I’m sorry,” Dojima’s voice interrupted his pity party, making him flinch. “I’m so sorry.” He kept repeating that, and Shinada had no idea why he was apologizing all of a sudden. He wanted to say that he was sorry too, sorry to have disappointed anyone who had believed in him when he left for the concert with the mission to protect that girl, but couldn’t make the words come out. So he kept on weeping, while Dojima kept whispering small apologies, pulling him closer.
Between two sobs, Shinada noticed there was something oddly familiar about this situation. It was not like it was a habit of his to break down and grab on to the nearest person to seek solace. Sure, he cried a lot, but he usually did it behind closed doors, alone. He had  some dignity left, surely. But being held like this as he wept brought him back to his first night in Nagoya, when he had felt a semblance of reassurance in Milky’s soft embrace. Well, sort of. Dojima was no Milky, he was still pretty stiff and the motion of his hand on Shinada’s back felt a bit awkward, he was clearly not used to this kind of gesture. Still, it felt nice.
It went on for a while, and Shinada felt like he was calming down when- “I need to move.” Just like that, Dojima released him, straightening up a bit too abruptly, shoving Shinada away. “Sorry. Bullet wound.”
Shinada watched him struggle to find a position that wasn’t putting any strain on his wound, before he settled for sitting on the edge of the bed, his feet planted on the floor. Dojima grimaced as he pressed a hand to his side, giving him a look that Shinada assumed was meant to be apologetic, but ended up looking like his usual tired scowl. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to rush you like that, but if I open up those stitches again, I’m afraid my doctor’s going to give up on me.” And, because he clearly hadn’t said that enough in the last five minutes, “Sorry.”
Rubbing his eyes with his hands to chase any surviving tears, and feeling pretty confident he had calmed down enough to attempt to talk, Shinada came to join him, sitting on the edge of the bed. “Why do you keep saying you’re sorry?”
Apparently, Dojima hadn’t expected his question (that he had managed to ask with a not-so-shaky-voice, not bad for a guy who had been crying for the last ten minutes), looking at him with wide eyes. Turned out the guy could somewhat emote, when he wanted to. Shinada would have found it funny if his answer hadn’t come with such a sad, almost choked tone. “You’re only here because of me. I dragged you into this. Had I left you alone, you wouldn’t be…”
“A fucking mess.”
“In pain.” His voice was low, sounding more like the man he had fought on his roof again. “I knew of the dangers and I still let you come here. And now you’re…” He trailed off, frowning even more. “I’m so sorry, Tatsuo.”
Shinada hadn’t really thought of it that way. Dojima waltzing back into his life was what had led to him being stuck here, with nightmares in his head and regrets in his heart, that was true. But when he thought of his home, where he was basically starving and where everyone had been hiding things from him, where he was basically rotting away while clinging on dreams that would never happen… Would he really have been better off if the yakuza never came to find him?
He sighed, realizing he would probably never find a satisfying answer to this question. Instead he settled for shuffling closer to his friend (he had decided that “friend” was an alright word to use, now that the guy had seen him cry and had tried his best to comfort him), resting his chin on his shoulder.
“Well, that’s silly.” Shinada’s voice was still a little hoarse, but he tried his best to sound cheerful. Well, more cheerful than he was a few moments ago, at least. “Remember how you tried to stop me from coming with you? And look, you’re nice enough not to go 'I told you so' about it, too.”
“I should have stopped you.”
“You wish. We fought for it, remember? And I won.”
“You won because I agreed to back down. I shouldn’t have. Should have kept fighting. Better have you stuck at home with a broken leg than here and in anguish.”
Shinada never thought he would hear someone say “I wish I had broken your leg” in a nice way, but here he was. He chuckled, and noticing Dojima looked still rather glum, avoiding to look at him as he stared at one corner of the room, took a deep sigh.
“Well, I don’t blame you, okay?”
He really meant it, too. Dojima remained silent, but Shinada noticed his lip twitching slightly. He wasn’t sure if it was because his wound was still acting up, or because his words had touched him somehow, but hoped it was the latter.
He knew what blaming himself felt like, and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

This is the second time I've sat through this scene because I fucked up a QTE and felt bad. So let me start with this:
This scene is a nonstop whiplash of STUPID and AWESOME. Rubber bullets AGAIN - STUPID Helicopter throwing the money - AWESOME Daigo apparently tossing out some growth from previous games to just say "I gotta crack some eggs for an omelet!" - STUPID Each of our main characters squaring up appropriately for a QUAD BOSS RUSH - AWESOME The ENTIRE reason Saejima's sister was relevant was because they assumed Kiryu and Saejima would leave if she was alive???? When they both (mostly Kiryu, but Saejima after Hamazaki's death) have infinite reason to remain BEYOND her???? WHAT??? - STUPID
God, the rubber bullets though, man. Arai seriously shot a dude in the forehead and just... walked away? No blood? Just walk? Fucking lord that plot point is stupid.
Also Arai being a cop was such a pointless reveal that DURING the reveal he has to reveal that he's also not a cop anymore since he "killed" Munakata.
Now this text is written after actually beating it and let me say SOME THINGS.
They really left the big bad next to the gun not once but twice, eh?
And I nearly spit laughing thinking they pulled rubber bullets AGAIN with Akiyama but no, that was much cooler.
Also funny how they replaced Kiryu with Akiyama for the "Will he die at the end?!!" scene.
AND HANA-CHAN OH MY GOD I LOST MY SHIT AND I LOVE THEIR DYNAMIC SO MUCH I LOVE THEM.
Oh shit and I forgot I told myself I'd write a 3 page rant about how FUCKING STUPID that final fight was but I think that sums it up. Click play on the video if you actually wanted to know what I mean but yeah, fuck that final fight. As if I needed more reasons to despise Tanimura.
Okay all that behind me let me do my wrap up on Yakuza 4.
Uniquely, I feel like I actually posted so consistently on it that I don't have too much to say. So I'll sum things up pretty succinctly I believe.
Yakuza 4 was Okay At Best. It is, BY FAR, the worst Yakuza I have played thus far. It's arguably fucking trash. BUT. I understand why and it has a lot to like as well.
The why is the fact they wanted to shake things up with 4 protagonists to prevent Kiryu burnout. That demands a different set of skills for writing and is infinitely harder to write, and they failed. This is likely why so many plot points were fucking stupid, because it was a stretch to make them work for 4 POVs.
Now the things to like aren't all that exciting but they are worth saying. The 4 protags are mostly a win. Saejima is a little bland but it's interesting to see a 'fallen yakuza' type so despite not being a 10/10 "I love this guy" character, he's a win. Tanimura is a loss, next question. Kiryu is great in this, he doesn't 'do' much but, I mean, it's Kiryu. He also has the benefit of having the BEST substories in this game simply because the ideas the other 3 focused on were meh and Kiryu's were almost all references to past games so fanservice won out. Akiyama is a BIG win, everything about him is a win. His backstory, his personality, his specific realm of influence especially Hana, his morals being interesting, the interesting dynamic he brings as a BILLIONAIRE who doesn't care about money. He's great.
But I can sum up Yakuza 4 pretty well. It introduces Akiyama and he's great. The rest ranges from FUCKING GARBAGE to terrible plot points to "well this is okay, like C to B- Yakuza" to a few genuinely sensational moments, all of which generally involve Akiyama being Akiyama and Kiryu doing a thing (and I genuinely can't think of any 'top Yakuza 4 moments' that were Kiryu, so best moments are pretty much just Akiyama and Hana.)
It's got an INTENSE range but sadly most of that range is on the bad end of things with only a few outlier great moments. Honestly? And I know no one is asking me of all people, but again- Honestly? If someone came to me interested in trying the Yakuza series, as a whole, I'd tell them to their face that they can skip 4.
Read a wiki entry, maybe watch some Akiyama scenes, watch a recap on Saejima's assassination attempt to understand that he's a badass in future games, that's it. Wouldn't even bother reading about the truth behind the attempt or any major events in 4. Just know who Saejima and Akiyama are and move on, this game was not worth it as an entry in Yakuza.
All that negativity aside, it wasn't the worst thing I've ever played, just the worst Yakuza I've ever played, and I so desperately want to end this with "Overall I'm glad I beat it/ liked it" but I just really can't type those words sincerely. It hurts to think- I didn't, I just didn't.
I really enjoyed like 20 minutes of this game total and it took like 76 hours to beat. THANKFULLY that 75:40 wasn't a nonstop living hell, most of it was alright or okay, but some of it- as in more than 20 minutes of it- was trash, so not a great return.
Yakuza 4. It was fine. Skip it if you can.
Oh and the post credits was fine. Apparently it mislead some to think Kiryu takes over as the chairman but that makes no sense and a quick google seems to disprove that. I only checked because I wanted to make sure he wasn't coming back on as a patriarch, and he's not, he's just overseeing Saejima's inauguration. Apparently a lot of people really took the ending as Kiryu giving up his entire orphanage life to become chairman again and that's quite a stretch from what was shown, I mean he says he's coming back and Haruka and him both act like this is just an afternoon affair- I think people just really want Kiryu to go full yakuza despite the fact that goes against his character so much.

(i already tried to sent this message so apologies if I seem overbearing I swear it's just to make sure tumblr isn't eating anons again) Hello! I love how you write and I would love a "hiding an injury" for dororo, possibly with Dororo being the one injured
Tumblr media
@badthingshappenbingo
Hi! Sorry for the delay! I received your first ask oops but i just needed some time to get used to writing dororo (this is my first time for this fandom after all). I hope this is fine?
Trope: Hiding an Injury
Fandom: Dororo (2019)
ao3 link
First Red
Hyakkimaru was strangely obsessed with naming colours lately but with how he reacted to getting his senses back previously, Dororo wasn't surprised. However, that didn't make it any less annoying to her when he pointed at a flower for the hundredth time that day and asked, "Dororo, is this red?"
"This is the first time he's able to see, right?" Genjirou asked, laughing. "I think we should let him have his moment."
Dororo sighed loudly as she looked at her Aniki squatting on the floor and scrutinising the flower closely. She still couldn't help her annoyance. The three of them were on the way back to the refugee village from getting her father's hidden treasure, of which they each carried a bag. So they had a ton of valuable stuff. With the war increasingly taking a toll on Daigo's land, who knows how many people are desperate to get this treasure in their hands?
It was a good thing Genjirou was around to help as well. There was literally no way Dororo and Hyakkimaru could drag this much stuff back to the village. According to the other refugees, Genjirou was a trusted friend and one of their strongest men. So far, they were proven to be right.
The unforeseen troublemaker was none other than Hyakkimaru himself. He was constantly pulled away by different sights, and when they were out of Daigo's land and were seeing more beautiful things like green hills and colourful flower fields, Dororo completely lost her Aniki to those distractions.
To make matters worse, however… She gripped her robe tighter to herself.
While trying to get the treasure, she had slipped while trying to climb the pile and gotten a nick from a bejeweled dagger (why on earth was that even there?!) on her back. She had deliberately stood where the other two couldn't see her back until the sun set and she was safe to mend her clothes and patch herself up.
It really should have been a simple affair with the injury being so shallow. She started the next day without a thought about the wound but it was starting to burn and twinge under her clothing. She couldn't see the wound no matter how she twisted her body but when she reached back to touch it, it wasn't a lot of blood. She knew immediately what it was. Years spent around bandits had taught her this meant her wound was infected.
Usually, she wouldn't mind just fixing the wound herself but, unlike previously, Hyakkimaru could now see exactly what she was doing and she'd have to explain herself, which she'd really rather not do. It would be pathetic to admit to Hyakkimaru that she got the wound from a stupid fall.
But there was an even bigger reason why she's not doing that: Genjirou would see her.
Aniki already knew she was a girl. Somehow or another, blind as he was back then, he still managed to figure out she was a girl. But Hyakkimaru was not a blather mouth so it was fine. Who else can he tell things to anyway?
Genjirou on the other hand… He was popular in the village, and he was talkative. In this trip alone, Dororo had learned more about Genjirou and the other refugees than she had in the week she spent with them before heading out.
There was no way she was letting him find out she was a girl.
So she kept her mouth shut. As the day dragged on, her wound throbbed away, draining her energy bit by bit.
***
The mid-day sun was blazing above the travelling group, and the sweltering weather was already unbearable, yet somehow, Dororo's wound felt hotter still, swelling to a worrying throb. Even the tiniest movement on her part would set her robe scratching agonisingly against her raw flesh.
She had also drunk quite a bit of water but somehow she still felt endlessly parched. Maybe it was because of how she panted with each and every exhausting step she took. Her chest was heaving and it occasionally stuttered, giving way to fatigue for a second before starting again.
Things were uncomfortable to say the least. In fact, Dororo was lightheaded and feverish with pain. She just hoped she'd make it through today and get some much needed rest.
"Dororo…"
Her eyes snapped up to look at her Aniki's brown ones. It was still slightly weird not to see wooden eyes when she looked at her Aniki.
"Are you alright? Your face is… white."
Playfully, Dororo rolled her eyes. "Putting your new words to use so quickly?" she teased in an attempt to dodge the question.
Hyakkimaru with his eyes back was far more expressive than he used to be. Right now, there was the slightest tinge of pride in his eyes. However, that was quickly replaced again with worry. "There is something wrong."
"What is?" Genjirou asked as he slowed his pace to match the other two.
Internally, Dororo groaned.
"Dororo looks very white."
"Oh right, he does," Genjirou said as he knelt down and held her by the shoulders. "Are you feeling ill?"
Scowling, Dororo shoved him and backed away. As she did, a wave of nausea overcame her and she had to take a few moments to compose herself as the feeling faded slowly away. "I'm fine," she said as nonchalantly as possible. "Just a little tired."
"Should we rest?" Genjirou suggested. "You are a child after all. Of course you would be tired."
A wave of anger surged through Dororo. "No need," she snapped as she tossed her bag from one shoulder to the other. She felt a sharp pain on her back and valiantly held back a wince. "Let's continue walking."
She marched on without them. Compliantly, the other two followed behind. However, as they continued on, Dororo could feel her feet beginning to drag harder and harder against the sand, nearly tripping several times in the uneven ground. Several times, she caught her eyelids closed for at least 5 seconds, and sometimes she would feel her stomach lurch with the urge to puke. But she kept it in and trudged on.
Suddenly, Hyakkimaru let out a barely audible gasp that hitched on his throat. "Dororo," he said, catching up with her. "There's red on your shirt."
She looked down at her side. Sure enough, there was a dark patch on her green robe. The wound must have burst open with her excessive movement.
Genjirou yelled, "That's blood!"
The look of alarm on Hyakkimaru's face was strange. He rushed forward and his trembling hands hovered over Dororo, not daring to touch her as he just looked at the patch of dark dark red seeping through her shirt.
It was then that it occurred to Dororo that he had probably never seen blood before. How ironic to have so much blood upon your hands but only just seeing it for the first time.
"Look, I'm fine. This is nothing big," Dororo said.
"Let me take a look at that," Genjirou said, reaching over.
Immediately, she slapped the hand away. "No!" Her vision began to blackout but she held her gaze in place in a feign. Her vision returned in spots and she realised she was swaying dangerously.
Silently, Hyakkimaru touched Dororo's forehead with his hand. His cool palms shook ever so slightly. "You are warm," he said. "You're not okay."
"I'm fine!" she insisted as she pulled away from the other two and charged ahead. However, as she walked, she tripped on thin air and suddenly the world was beginning to tilt violently to the side. Her sight went dark even as she felt herself fall and hit the ground. The ground vibrated as loud footsteps came towards her.
She opened her mouth to insist that she was fine. But her consciousness faded as she heard Hyakkimaru's panicked voice call out her name.

kizuna countdown part 2! yup i just did them all in one go, everyone who’s doing it day by day, have fun! See y’all on Friday!
Favorite Chosen Child-Digimon bond
... uh... so I guess I already answered this in the last question XD I think it's because it's so difficult to think about the Digimon without thinking a lot about the relationship they have with their partners. So I'll just let this one lie, I guess.
Favorite Chosen Children friendship
I pretty much like any relationship dynamic that involves Taichi.
Taichi & Yamato show the most growth, both in themselves and in their appreciation and respect for each other. Taich comes at Yamato expecting to make friends just by being himself as always. Yamato's built up walls to keep himself from getting hurt, plus there's a side to him that wants to be as free Taichi, and he winds up feeling jealous. Then there are ways in which they are legit different which adds even more friction. Their friendship comes out on top because both of them are extremely loyal to their friends at their core. They rock. I loved them in Tri too, when Taichi was acharacteristically waffling around and Yamato was even more concerned about it than the confused viewers hahahaha.
Taichi & Koushirou because they're the opposite of him and Yamato, their friendship is steady and strong throughout. They already respect each other from day one. Taichi puts a lot of faith and trust in Koushirou's abilities and relies on him to get him out of a pickle, even one he's made on his own. Koushirou is a bit shy and not exactly afraid to speak up, but not 100% convinced that his contribution is valued. Taichi helps him see his own worth. And Koushirou believes in Taichi :')
I also love him and Sora and Hikari. For friendships that don't include Taichi, my favs are:
Takeru & Hikari because they're really POWERFUL when they're together (teasing Daisuke for example)
Sora & Koushirou Managing Things, Somehow
Koushirou & Mimi driving each other crazy while really valuing each other
Daisuke & Miyako ^ similar dynamic
Ken & Miyako, I know it becomes a romance, but I loved it when they were kids and it was like Ken and Hikari were off being angsty together and Miyako's like I FEEL LEFT OUT and whines about and then kicks their butts to make the sun shine
Favorite Adventure series villain
Etemon! just kidding. Though the Etemon arc was so great for Taichi that I really enjoy it XD
I'd definitely pick the Dark Masters. Devimon was your typical RPG villain, then Etemon was nonsense run amok. Myotismon was the most fun storyline, what with going back to the human world and the search for the eighth child... I especially loved the chaos when the kids are all separated throughout the city.
But yeah, it'd be the Dark Masters, mostly because I loved how much the kids' resolve got tested when they had to decide for themselves to go to the digital world instead of just being thrown in there. The only one who's had to do that before was Taichi. They fought and they lost a lot of friends, and their team splintered and we saw new sides to everyone. It was harsh. About the villains themselves, MetalSeadramon was whatever, but Puppetmon with his envy and vulnerability and weird relationship with Cherrymon was so interesting to me. Machinedramon was downright terrifying. And then Piedmon playing everyone like marionettes and taking down the trump card as soon as it appeared on the scene... it all led to my favorite moment when the kids are running away one by one and sacrifice themselves to save each other. Sora's moment saving Takeru and Hikari while grabbing Yamato's doll was absolutely epic.
Favorite non-partnered Digimon
Piximon! I loved and wanted more of his training sessions. Wish he'd been like Rafiki and just followed Taichi around smacking him on the head with his stick.
Does Gennai count? He's not a Digimon so I guess not, but I loved Gennai too. He was useful. And also useless. I mostly liked it when he was useless xD
Also Whamon. Traveling in the belly of a whale is awesome. And I was so upset when he got killed.
Also Leomon & Ogremon should count as one of my favorite friendships.
Favorite ship / OTP
So, my number one Digimon OTP is Joumi. Always has been. I like it for a lot of similar reasons that people like Koumi, I guess. But the reason I glued onto Joumi mainly happened in Dark Masters when they were traveling just the two of them for a while. Mimi is positive and outspoken and caring despite being a bit self-absorbed. Jou is reliable, steady, and protective, even though he's also perpetually stressed out. They can both be panicky, but they grow out of it a lot. I think they're pretty realistc in personality and that's one reason I like them together: no one's unusually adept at something or other, they're just kids. They confide in each other about their struggles and they pick each other up. (I loved Ketsui for those moments! Such gifts)
Other ships I really enjoy are Taishiro, Taito, Miyakari, Daiken, Takari, and Daikeru. I also love one-sided Taidai and Mimiyako!
A friendship you'd like to see developed
Honestly? Sora and Miyako. The 02 kids inherited the Adventure team's crests, and each seemed to have a slightly stronger bond with one predecessor than the other. Daisuke had interesting dynamics with both Taichi and Yamato, so that was okay. Iori seemed to have more significant moments with Jou than Koushirou, I think because the sort of knowledge that Iori quests for is a different kind. Miyako is really, really similar to Mimi, her passions are just more hard sciences than artsy-fartsy.  But Miyako really never gets any moments with Sora at all? There's that one when she's panicking about being a Chosen in like episode 2, and I can't think of any after that. I would love to see Sora big sister-ing Mimi, helpig her bring out her sensible side, since Mimi's got the eccentric covered.
I'd ALSO like to see Hikari & Sora have a great friendship. One that isn't entirely based on worrying about Taichi x'D
Favorite Kizuna character profile
Takeru's because I just love that he's in a children's lit club!
Favorite Kizuna promotional art
I... haven't been paying attention, so this isn't a real answer, but that one with the boys eating ramen I guess. I even wrote a ficlet for it lol.
Favorite Tri. installment
Kokuhaku!!!! That destroyed any reservations I still had about Tri. It was epic. Somewhat undercut by the fact that we all knew the Digimon would wind up getting their memories back eventually, but I was okay with just enjoying the ride until we got to that point. It was great. I loved the sacrifice the Digimon were willing to make, I loved the secret farewells each partner took, I loved Takeru's protectiveness, Koushirou's breakdown, and Tentomon's strength. Like seriously, he gets all the MVP awards.
Favorite non-Tri. Adventure movie
Our War Game. It's just classic. Plus, Bolero.
Favorite character besides the 12 kids & their partners
Oh, I guess now I could pick Gennai if I want. But I think I'd pick Meiko. I was so not feeling her when Tri came out because I expected her to be the Typical Anime Movie Newbie, who's almost always a girl, bland and uninteresting, eating up valuable screen time from the characters we actually want to see, magically saves everyone and then never appears again.
Meiko did not end up being that girl. Her shyness and awkwardness might have been annoying if they hadn't been tempered by her personal journey through the six movies, and I ended up really liking having a shy girl on the cast. It was refreshing and it was beautifully cast against Mimi. Mimi/Meiko FTW. And she hd real female relationships - with both Sora and Mimi. Her protectiveness of Meicoomon, but also her selfishness, and the terrible decisions she had to make, the way she struggled with self-pity and real honest grief... it ended up really moving me. I think she became very well-rounded and added a lot to Tri.
If Tri had been just one movie, like those anime movies I was expecting, I think she would have been That Girl, but fortunately with six we had plenty of time to get to know her.
(Bonus) Freebie! Talk about something we didn't cover :)
Well, we did lots of favs, so how about a "least fav"?
Of course I don't have a least favorite Chosen, or Digimon. In fact the only thing I'd really pin as a big disappointment happened in Tri. I love Tri but it's certainly got its holes, and for me, Himekawa Maki is a big one. I hate that we just left her wandering in the dark ocean. I hate that were wasn't more expansion on the original Chosen team. I remember when I was a kid and we found out in the last ep or so of Adventure that there had been kids before Taichi and co, I was annoyed, I'd wanted them to be the first.
But I was also curious. With Tri, we finally found out some about that... but only scraps. Who were the others on the team? Where are they now? What's their relationship with Digimon, and if they don't have one anymore, why? What would they say about Daigo's death and Maki's disappearance? Honestly I didn't want to dedicate more time to them at that point (even with six movies they couldn't cram everything in - much as I love Ketsui, I think it should have been a bit different, and moved the plot along faster). But I also hate that we finally learned some stuff about them and in the end were just left with even more questions.

what are your fav yakuza games ranked??!
so i’ve only played 0-4 (and half of 5) and seen mooost of 7 (i don’t have it, but my friend has been playing it and streaming it to me), so i guess i don’t really have a rating on 5 or 6 but tl:dr: 0, k2/5 so far, and 4/k1/3 are kind of on the same level for me though 4 might be higher only because saejima ... but elaboration below because (: we live in my world (definite spoilers)
0 - my absolute favorite so far, and, like, as much fun as i have in the other games, nothing comes close. i went into it relatively, if not totally, blind and so that made it MUCH more enjoyable. i like the darker tone too and i am like... so biased towards everyone in this game i immediately love them more than anyone else (except nishitani. hate that bitch. whatever). two of my big favorites are from this game alone (kiryu and majima, and like yeah they’re in other games but their characterizations here... well... i’m in love. also hi the other one is saejima you didn’t ask but you shall receive). i’m really happy i played it before k1 because i think i kind of would’ve fucking hated nishiki and majima (also, hi, i really really love nishiki in this game and i was like, trying to look up a ref for him while playing and saw that he died and WELL. turns out that’s just k1).
it just hits so hard. all of it. it made me scared makoto was just going to not even make it to the end. tachibana’s death was so ): ))))::::. both the car scene and the end of shibusawa’s fight with nishiki and kiryu are stellar. i love majima’s absolute catharsis moment at the end up until the epilogue (also i just.. in general love cathartic moments for characters. sexy.). i went from being like wow oda is kind of fucking scum to wait this guy is kind of chill to oh my god what. it was just a really fun experience to not know what was going to happen or who was going to make it or not.
doing side content now, all the hostesses are my besties now. we’re all friends. i love love yuki and ai. also i’m like. so good at disco. not really but kind of. disco should be in more games.
k2 - okay so this is mainly so high because i find it so fucking pretty. i’m in love with the way it looks. i love being able to walk in places with no loading screen. sotenbori is so gorgeous and so is kamurocho. it’s so... <3
kiryu and sayama’s romance was like laughable and the fact that the end was that was ... so fucking funny to me. i don’t really care about sayama at all at all but the end with her and ryuji was sweet to me (and made me like him a bit since a lot of the time i just... don’t have opinions on characters). i really like daigo in this too. the majima saga was fun to me because i’m weak willed and well... i really love love makoto.
5 - i haven’t finished it but i find it really really fun. every part has been super fun to me and i’m on haruka’s right now. i know a bit about it which is... unfortunate (um. like probably anything regarding majima. as in he definitely isn’t dead if he’s in the next two and also, like, stuff with park)... i have many many thoughts and emotions about saejima between this and 4. park was also growing on me a lot but then um well. it seems she died so um. well that happened. i’m excited to see where it goes! all of the jobs have been pretty fun (hunting has been my least favorite so far because it kind of felt tedious and i keep getting attacked by bears, i finished off taxi while in the story, and i like. have to stop myself from doing all of haruka’s stuff because i totally love it, it’s my favorite. honestly kind of scared of shinada’s because i um. ..  don’t know how good i’m going to be at it since i think it’s baseball). it’s just pretty good!
4 - i wasn’t super invested in it. i loved saejima’s part and he really quickly became my favorite but my god, some of the stuff regarding him was fucking stupid. the rubber bullets? kinda stupid. yasuko dying for like... no reason... kinda stupid (mainly because i just.. i want ONE happy sibling reunion after ryuji/sayama and tachibana/makoto). akiyama and hana are fun, tanimura was nice and i still don’t know what the hell happened to him but bye i guess since he just seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. i can’t really remember anything kiryu did and i think he was just kind of a weaker protag, he’s much better again in 5. um... basically though... saejima... i like seeing a more genuine majima too again.
3 - i guess i wasn’t super invested in this either. some of the stuff was cute (like kiryu dad moments) but i just... didn’t really care... at all... about anything going on... the kazama look alike thing was like, um, ok. couldn’t really care about kashiwagi dying because i’m like,,, girl i know you’re in 7 (also i really like him in 7 he’s funny). majima kiryu bestie moments. i like all the kids except the certain riona part was so fucking uncomfortable (also idk why kiryu is telling them they’re all families and saying he saw everyone at sunflower as siblings then trying to put riona and mitsuo together. also weird). kind of don’t understand the mine hype because like he looks and sounds nice but ladies.. he bulldozed a fucking orphanage. how more typically evil can you get than that. literally hates orphans. it’s so... and i just didn’t really super care? he was interesting at the end i’ll give him that but then he just suicides so like... bye. also richardson’s voice is really funny to me.
k1 - so i played this immediately after 0 and well... having really liked nishiki and majima in 0 made this .. um . it was almost comedically similar with the same boat fight and the same car chase, but, just, lame. it was kinda eh. i didn’t like it. i kind of feel like nishiki could’ve been done way better. majima is just suddenly.,.. he’s um doing things alright. it was just a biiiiiiiiiiiiig let down compared to 0. makes me bitter.
also i realize i didn’t rank 7 at all, but, um, kinda don’t understand what’s going on, and i’m REALLLY not invested. kiryu’s existence makes me livid. so fucking stupid. saejima and majima’s fight was fun because i like saejima just swinging majima around that is a fun concept also brother Momence which i <33 love seeing them together same in 4 and the start of his part in 5. all the party members are fun for the most part except nanba got really annoying. i didn’t see some of ch 3/4 either so. i don’t really have anywhere i’d place it. also i haven’t seen the end because my friend is just playing k1 instead  SO ... forever in chapter 15 purgatory.

Character Story - Nishikiyama (Junior High Student) [RGGO]
Wow, 3 stories in 1 week, I’m on a roll! But I’m slowing down now, cuz the Daigo one’s pretty long, and I need to get back to studying to make up for the oral revalida I bombed XD
Anyway now it’s time for Baby Koi Boi, the partner card to Baby Dragon! I’ve always loved Nishiki, but I think I love him even more now because of this, he’s just so much more emotional and passionate than anyone else in the series <3
Also! According to this, Junior High spans from 13 to 16 years of age (cuz its 1984). Sooo it’s slightly less weird to imagine 16-year-old-pornstached Kazama buying a porn mag in Kiryu’s story XD
Tumblr media
Story: Yuko, who STILL doesn’t get a character sprite even in RGGO, tells her big brother that she has a boyfriend. Nishiki freaks out.
Nishiki, beating up a poor civilian: “That’s for dating my sister!!!!”
Innocent civilian, getting beaten up by an angry teen: “I don’t even know who you are!!!!”
Note: In Chapter 3, the term “jealous of jealousy” or ヤキモチを妬く is used. Based on this article that took me ages to search, it means something along the lines of “gaining a crush on someone you’re jealous of” (kinda like tsunderes in anime I think) or “having a crush on someone who has a crush on someone else” or “wanting someone all to yourself”, with a hint of “love is blind”. But all of those are phrases MUCH too loaded for me to be including in here on the shaky basis of one google-translated article, so I’m leaving it as is. (But if someone who knows Japanese can confirm or deny it, please tell me so I can edit and put in the right term!)
.
CHAPTER 1
.
One day in 1984. When Nishikiyama Akira and Kiryu Kazuma were still in junior high school . . .
Tumblr media
[Theater Square]
Junior high school girl A: “Ah, Nishikiyama-kun! Yoo-hoo!”
Nishikiyama: “Hey.”
Junior high school girl B: “We’re all heading to the arcade. Come join us, Nishikiyama-kun!”
Nishikiyama: “No, I can’t. I have somewhere to go today.”
Junior high school girl B: “Ehh~! . . . Oh, that’s right. Sorry for disturbing you.”
Nishikiyama: “I’m sorry, please invite me again some other time.”
Junior high school girl A: “Yeah, see you next time!”
{Nishiki leaves.}
Junior high school girl B: “. . . That’s right, Nishikiyama-kun is visiting his younger sister today.”
Junior high school girl A: “Nishikiyama-kun really cares about his sister. I’m a little jealous~.”
----
Tumblr media
[Hospital]
Nishikiyama: “Yo.”
Yuko: “Onii-chan.”
Nishikiyama: “How are you doing?”
Yuko: “Same as usual. Onii-chan, won’t you be in trouble with Kazama-san?”
Nishikiyama: “That’s nothing to concern yourself about.”
Yuko: “Is that so. Good luck-”
Nishikiyama: “Easy, easy. Just lie down.”
Yuko: “But . . .”
Nishikiyama: “I just dropped by to see you. I’ll go home soon.”
Yuko: “. . . I really worry for my Onii-chan.”
Nishikiyama: “Shut up, it’s not like that.  . . . Hm? Yuko, what’s with those live flowers?”
Yuko: “Oh, these? They’re called Phalaenopsis orchids. Aren’t they beautiful?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah, they look really extravagant.”
Yuko: “Yup.  . . . Y-You know what?”
Nishikiyama: “Hm?”
Yuko: “Th-This is . . . a gift from my lover.”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Yuko: “A-Ahaha. What do you think, Onii-chan-”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Yuko: “. . . Onii-chan? You’re suddenly quiet, is everything okay?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Ha! Y-Yeah. I was spacing out a little. Okay, okay. I’m perfectly fine. 100 percent. Perfect. Yup. Everything’s fine. There’s no problem at all. Onii-chan’s not going home yet, I just remembered a little errand I have to do.”
{Nishiki runs out.}
Yuko: “Eh?! A little- Onii-chan!”
----
Tumblr media
[Pink Street]
Nishikiyama: (A lover? To Yuko? Yuko and a lover? A lover and Yuko? Lover? Lover? Lover? She has a lover???? She’s still a kid? But she has a lover? A lover? I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it . . .)
Tumblr media
High school girl: “Kyaa! Please stop!”
Hooligan A: “You want me to do something good to you, don’t you?”
Hooligan B: “Yeah yeah, come feel good with us!”
High school girl: “I hate you! Let go!”
Nishikiyama: “A lover . . . to Yuko . . . mumble.”
{Nishiki distractedly walks into the hooligans.}
Tumblr media
Hooligan A: “Hey! Watch where you’re going!!”
Nishikiyama: “mumble . . . mumble . . .”
Hooligan B: “Hey, bro. You can’t just bump into someone and then ignore them-“
{Nishiki swings around to throw his fist into the guy’s face.}
Tumblr media
Hooligan B: “Hgugh?!“
Nishikiyama: “Shut up!!!! I’m dealing with something right now!!!!”
Hooligan A: “Huh?! Th-Th-This bastard . . . don’t think you’ll scare us off by yelling!!”
Hooligan B: “Punching me out of nowhere . . . I’ll kill you!!”
{Nishiki beats the crap out of the hooligans and sends them running.}
High school girl: “U-Um, thank you very much!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . mumble.”
High school girl: “U-um . . . ?”
Nishikiyama: “No but, Yuko with a lover . . . she never said anything about it and then suddenly . . .”
{Nishiki wanders off, still mumbling to himself.}
High school girl: “I-I wonder what’s up with that person . . .”
----
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “. . . Damn it. I can’t get my head straight. Calm down. I need to calm down . . . ! Inhale~. Exhale~. Inhale~. Exhale~. Okay, taking a deep breath to calm down. I’m perfectly calm now. Now that I’m thinking with a calm head, I can clearly see what I must do. Yuko’s lover . . .”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “I’m going to find that guy and kick his ass!!!!”

CHAPTER 2
.
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: (Yuko’s lover . . . what an arrogant bastard with a bouquet . . . Well, it was Phalaenopsis orchids. The flowers look expensive. Maybe he’s a criminal whose modus is a bouquet of flowers! Wait, I can use the bouquet as a clue-)
Tumblr media
Drunk A: “So? What happened to the woman in question?”
Drunk B: “It’s perfect! Women are simple after all . . . it was easy!”
Drunk A: “Seriously? But I feel sorry for the woman though. Doesn’t she know you have a second?”
Drunk B: “Idiot, it’s not just two, I have five! It’s my technique so I can drop a woman anytime!”
Drunk A: “Five?! You’re the worst! Gyahahaha!”
Drunk B: “Hehe, I even gave one of the women a bouquet! That’s right-“
{Nishiki suddenly punches the five-timing drunk.}
Tumblr media
Drunk B: “Bgyagh?!“
Nishikiyama: “You gave the bouquet . . . ? So you’re the culprit!!!!”
Drunk A: “Eh? Eh . . . ?”
Nishikiyama: “Playing with Yuko’s heart is a sin . . . I’ll make you regret it!!!!”
{Nishiki beats up the drunks.}
Tumblr media
Drunk A: “O-Oi! Of your five women, are any of them this guy’s little sister?”
Drunk B: “No way! All five of them are older than me . . . !!”
Nishikiyama: “Oi . . .”
Drunks: “Yes?!”
Nishikiyama: “Didn’t you deliver that bouquet to Yuko’s hospital room?”
Drunk B: “W-W-W-W-Wrong! I gave that bouquet to Machiko, a cabaret girl!!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . I see. Don’t be so misleading next time. Jeez.”
Drunks: “We’re sorry!!!!”
Nishikiyama: (Damn it. If I don’t do anything, the culprit won’t be revealed. How do I figure out the criminal . . . )
Nishikiyama: “No, wait a minute. There IS a clue . . . !”
Drunks: “Yes?”
Nishikiyama: “You bought a luxurious bouquet to give to a woman, where did you buy it?”
----
Tumblr media
[West Shichifuku Street]
Nishikiyama: “It should be in this area. Here . . .”
Nishikiyama: (According to the drunkard, there’s a flower shop in this place. I have no idea who Yuko’s lover is, but maybe if I find out where he bought the bouquet that he gave her . . .)
Nishikiyama: “What was the flower again . . . a Phalaenopsis orchid? I suppose I should ask who bought them.”
Tumblr media
Flower Seller: “Welcome! Oh? . . . I have a lot of cute customers today.”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Do you mean me?”
Flower Seller: “Ah, sorry for saying that out of nowhere. Earlier today a boy in a school uniform around your age came to the store.”
Nishikiyama: “Hey . . . is that unusual? A customer of my age . . .”
Flower Seller: “Yeah. Unless it’s Mother’s Day, a child your age has no reason to come to a flower shop, isn’t that right?”
Nishikiyama: “Definitely . . . if you ask me, then yeah. I wanted to know, did anyone come by today to buy Phalaenopsis orchids?”
Flower Seller: “Phalaenopsis orchids? I think that boy I mentioned just now bought some?”
Nishikiyama: “! I-Is that true?! What kind of guy is he?! Do you remember his name or what he looked like?!”
Flower Seller: “He’s just like you, a strong-looking kid who seems like he gets into fights. His name was . . . ah, right.”
Tumblr media
Flower Seller: “It was Kiryu-san.”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “. . . ha?”

CHAPTER 3
.
Tumblr media
[Champion District - Empty Lot]
Nishikiyama: “Yo, Kiryu. I’ve been waiting for you.”
Kiryu: “Nishiki . . . why did you call me out here all of a sudden?”
Nishikiyama: “Kiryu . . . do you have something to tell me?”
Kiryu: “Something to tell you . . . ? No, nothing in particular . . .”
Nishikiyama: “Is that right . . .”
Kiryu: “What are you angry about? Does it have something to do with what you want me to say?”
Nishikiyama: “Kiryu . . . earlier today, did you deliver a bouquet to Yuko?”
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . the look on your face tells me I’m right. Since when did you start sneaking around?”
Kiryu: “I wasn’t sneaking around . . . it started the day before yesterday.”
Nishikiyama: “What, that’s quite recent.”
Kiryu: “Yeah.”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Was it your idea?”
Kiryu: “No, it was originally Oyassan’s idea.”
Nishikiyama: “O-Oyassan?!”
Kiryu: “Yeah. He said he was sure it’ll make you and Yuko happy.”
Nishikiyama: “Why . . . did you keep quiet about this?”
Kiryu: “I was . . . going to surprise you.”
Nishikiyama: “I see . . . certainly, I was surprised to death . . .”
Kiryu: “Then what are you angry about? Did Yuko not like the bouquet?”
Nishikiyama: “No, she was very happy with it. Did you choose those flowers yourself?”
Kiryu: “That was also Oyassan’s idea. Phalaenopsis orchids mean ‘happiness soars’, apparently.”
Nishikiyama: “Tch! You keep saying Oyassan this, Oyassan that . . . Kiryu, what are YOUR feelings on this matter? You aren’t saying that’s ‘Oyassan’s idea’ too, are you?”
Kiryu: “It’s not like that. I followed Oyassan’s suggestion because it aligned with my feelings.”
Nishikiyama: “Is that right . . . so it really was you . . . to think I thought you were a good guy . . . damn you . . .”
Kiryu: “Nishiki, what on earth are you so angry about?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Don’t you know?”
Kiryu: “I don’t know, I’m drawing a blank.  . . . Could it be? Are you jealous of your jealousy for me?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah, that’s right. I’m jealous. I’m burning you with my jealousy, Kiryu!”
Kiryu: “So you’re jealous . . . because the other party is your sister?”
Nishikiyama: “Yes because she’s my sister! And my sister is important to me, so that’s why I’m angry with you!”
Kiryu: “I see . . . I get it now. Yuko is your dear sister, so I should have consulted you properly about this. My bad . . . the line is different in matters like this, and I crossed it. How can I make it up to you?”
Nishikiyama: “Duel with me, Kiryu . . . !! A no-holds-barred, one-on-one battle!! I’ll use my fists to make you pay for this . . . !!”
Kiryu: “Okay, I understand. If this will make you feel better, then I’ll accept your challenge with my whole power!!”
Nishikiyama: “Let’s go! Kiryu!!!!”
{Nishiki and Kiryu duke it out in the lot.}
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “Jeez, as usual you’re still stupidly strong . . . Oww . . .”
Kiryu: “Haa . . . haa . . . So, are you done . . . Nishiki?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah . . . thanks. It’s regrettable, but I have to admit . . . you being Yuko’s guy, she really does have a discerning eye for people!! To be her lover . . . no one would be more suitable than you!”
Nishikiyama: “I’ll accept it!! You and Yuko . . . dating!! . . . I’ll have to ask Yuko about this matter . . . kyoudai? From now on, call me Onii-san.”
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “. . . Nishiki. What are you talking about?”
Nishikiyama: “Huh? Oi, oi. Yuko’s bouquet of flowers in the hospital room, that was given by you. Isn’t that true?”
Kiryu: “Yeah, that’s right.”
Nishikiyama: “So that means you’re Yuko’s boyfriend.  . . . Am I wrong?”
Kiryu: “Why would that make it so?”
Nishikiyama: “Aren’t you Yuko’s lover?”
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “L-Lover . . . ?! Oi, what are you saying?!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . I’m sorry, could you give me a minute, Kiryu? I’m going to make a phone call.”
Kiryu: “Y-Yeah. Go ahead.”
----
Tumblr media
[Phone Booth]
Yuko: “Hello, Onii-chan?”
Nishikiyama: “Hey, Yuko. About that lover you mentioned earlier-“
Yuko: “. . . I’m sorry. Onii-chan, that was all a lie.”
Nishikiyama: “! S-So that’s all it was . . . But- But why did you . . .”
Yuko: “I’m really sorry.  . . . I was reading a book.”
Nishikiyama: “A book . . . ?”
Yuko: “Yup. A story of a sick girl like me getting a bouquet from a dreamy boy and falling in love with them . . . When I read that, I got jealous . . . I’m a fool. There’s no way something like that will happen to me. I lied so that even for a brief moment, I could be like that girl in the book. You were so shocked. I’m really sorry . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . So it was all a lie?”
Yuko: “Um-hm . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “Haaaaaaa~~~!! I’m so relieved~~~~~~~~!!!!”
Yuko: “Eh?!”
Nishikiyama: “My hair was turning white already . . . No, what you did was bad and it’s good that you told me, but . . . Anyway, can you make things clearer next time? And if you do meet a really good guy . . . tell me first, okay?”
Yuko: “Okay . . . Onii-chan, thank you.”
Nishikiyama: “Oh! I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
Yuko: “Okay, see you tomorrow.”
Nishikiyama: (Haa~. I got absolutely played by my sister’s cute lie . . . )
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “Nishiki, you’ve been gone for a long time. Are you alright?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . K-Kiryu.”
Kiryu: “Hm?”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “Kill me~~~~!!!! I’m sooo embarrassed~~!!!!”
Kiryu: “???? What is it, Nishiki . . . ? Ah, no, I mean Onii-san . . .”
