10 years ago today, I sang at the Grammy’s pre-show party on the rooftop of the Beverley Hilton in LA. I cannot believe it’s been 10 years! It was such a magical experience and I’ll never forget the sun bursting through the clouds just as I hit the peak of the song. The whole week was a dream. I stayed in the most incredible hotel (poolside at the Beverley Hilton), I had a VIP tour of Universal Studios, LA private bus tour, Visit to the Grammys Museum, $500 gift card and got to take my beautiful friend @dominicmtracy - who I met through Glee (he was one of the cast)- to the Grammys itself in a limo and went to the aftershow party. It was surreal and magical and one of the best weeks of my life. I had my papa @simple_2 there and my friend @tanja.hansson and we got to do so many amazing things and see places I’d only ever seen on TV. I got to meet up with @curtmega and @itskimwhalen who I also knew from Glee and it truly is one of my proudest achievements in life. One I will never forget and will always be grateful for. Gosh 10 years sure has flown by, how different my life is now. 11/30 10 Tahun Lalu… 2013 menjadi salah satu tahun yang cukup sibuk, penuh tantangan namun tetap menyenangkan. Memulai pagi dengan bekerja hingga menjelang maghrib, dilanjut dengan belajar di salah satu kampus swasta di Kota Baja, Cilegon, hingga menjelang jam cinderella. Tahun itu juga saya berganti pekerjaan dari non IT menjadi pekerja IT. “Saya ingin bekerja sesuai dengan jurusan saya” begitu pikir saya, sok idealis. Buku ini diberikan saat saya menjalani workshop yang diajukan tempat saya bekerja kala itu. Masih dengan pikiran idealis saya “kalau berusaha pasti bisa menaklukan kode-kode itu”. Saya berusaha terus semangat mengenal dan memahami bahasa pemrograman ini, walaupun pada perjalanannya, kode-kode itu menyakiti kepala dan waktu santai saya, hoho. Tak kenal maka tak sayang. Diawali dengan perkenalan apa itu PL/SQL, Oracle, bagaimana mengomunikasikan bahasa PL/SQL tersebut melalui sistem database oracle, hingga berlanjut memahami proses coding atau berkomunikasi dengan komputer menggunakan bahasa PL/SQL tadi. Caranya ya dengan praktek dan tes. PL/SQL atau Procedural Language/Structured Query Language, adalah generasi ke-4 dari bahasa pemrograman yang merupakan gabungan dari procedural (PL) dan Syntax (SQL). Sedangkan database Oracle adalah sebuah sistem berbasis data (database) yang berfungsi sebagai sistem informasi manajemen pada sebuah perusahaan, dikembangkan oleh perusahaan bernama Oracle. Buku ini memberi berbagai emosi. Sedih, kesal, marah, tawa bahagia, tangis, sakit. Biasanya emosi satu dengan yang lain akan saling berkaitan. Dari kesal karena syntax error (ada yang salah dalam penulisan kode yang kita tulis), ketika diperbaiki tidak kunjung benar, berlanjut pada marah, sakit kepala, tangis sedih, dan berakhir dengan tawa bahagia saat terjawab alasan error dan sistem berhasil dijalankan. Buku ini cukup mudah dimengerti untuk dipelajari bagi yang ingin berkenalan dan berharap lanjut ke menyanyangi PL/SQL. Menurutmu, lebih susah memahami kode bahasa pemrograman atau kode iseng manusia? Same spot, 10 years later 🥹 I got my first passport when I was 17 years old. I was going to England and a Scotland with my high school and couldn’t have been more excited. I chose to travel over paying for drivers ed and worked weekends and holidays to make it happen. That trip was filled with all the magic and wonder I could have hoped for. The travel bug was strong! It took 4 more years before I used my passport again. I went to Mexico for spring break with about 50 of my college friends. It was unreal of course 🤪 Today, about 10 years since my first trip abroad, I am en route to my 30th country. Little high school Emily would be jumping with joy (because I am right now 🤭). 10 years ago today my BA degree show opened at @norwichuniarts I’d already exhibited works in a load of different venues during the three years studying, but this work was a culmination of a load of different ideas. It was probably a little overly complex to try and tie all this work into a single display, but elements of all of the works continue to run through my practice. The patterns and found materials are still a big part of my work. The faces painted onto old records definitely influenced my illustration work, the painting directly onto the walls influenced my murals. Finally, the paintings on cardboard went on to influence my current painting practice massively, they were the first larger scale paintings on card which looked at social issues.
