Towards Japan Open 2022 || Translation of Uno Shoma’s Comment
youtube
"When I thought about what I need to increase my score,  I concluded that Lutz is necessary. The truth is I'm really bad at Lutz. I'm asked if I will really do it but as far as things I can do regarding jumps, I don't have much left. I feel like I have to do this."

ever have a blorbo live in your brain for so long they become their own blorbo variant that’s no longer fully attached to their source material and your original blorbo is still beloved and dear to you but now you also have a mutant blorbo clone who is dear to you in a different way?

May 22, 2022 || Uno Shoma Comments Translation
Shoma's first impression upon hearing the song (for SP): "It's not like me. It's not like any program I skated before." About winning Worlds: "It's the first time I won with something I feel satisfied with. I'm happy that I was able to respond to the expectations. I'm not good with pressure. Through my past experiences where I've overcome pressure I knew that it's not for me...  So for starters, I don't aim more than practice. After that, I don't aim for a result with too much in mind. Even though I say I don't aim for a result, I still want to win, of course. I also hear about what people around me expect from me. So even though I say I'm not aware, I'm aware of it. So I just try to separate myself from that pressure. Rather than thinking 'It's fine even if I don't win', I think 'If I lose today, I won't regret what I practiced up until now'. About Worlds: "I'm very satisfied with my performance there, I'm also satisfied with the result. Only, I think that the reason I was able to win (gold) was because Nathan Chen wasn't there. I think that unless I aim to be even higher, I won't be able to win Worlds again. So I must improve. It's not only that I want to improve, but in order to be at the top, I must improve."
About Quad Lutz: "I'm really terrible at Lutz. People around me ask "Will you really do it?" but in regards to jumps, the things to do aren't much, so I do it while thinking I have to. If I can master 4Lz, I think that will be a big growth for me. Even last year, the reason why I was able to jump 4S while saying I'm bad at it, was because I kept doing it. So if I don't keep doing Lutz, I won't be able to get better at it. So for now, I am just trying. " About adding 4Lz to his programs: "I wonder... I can only jump 3Lz barely now, I don't have any plans of adding them with how it is right now. But if I get better, I might. But I think it's a good thing that my first step is adding a Lutz jump in my daily practices. Just like last year, I still want to improve myself. Except, a year ago when I performed in Prince Ice World, it was a year I started that I just want to have growth. This year, I want to make it a challenging season to the point that people won't focus on the result of me taking first place at Worlds. Rules might be changing this year, I don't really know that well but, I want to polish what will best add points. For now the way to make it is by jumps, so I'm working on my jumps. There's a chance that with this big change, expression might be very important. If that happens, I'll work on that. I'm okay with the rule change however it might be, so I just think about adapting to the changed rules. " How his opinion changed towards failure: "It changed a lot. At first I thought about hoping for one success, rather than one mistake. But now, I think that making mistakes is a big experience towards growth. I always heard that people learned from mistakes since I was a child. But of course, I hated mistakes. It felt like there were things I would lose, even if there are things I would be learning. But surprisingly, you don't lose anything by making mistakes and if you can make them in a good way, you can use it (to your advantage) next.  If you are successful by luck, you won't be able to find your mistakes. So I think when you're making a mistake, you should do (the mistake) properly. I want to take out the luck factor out of my success, so when I'm supposed to fail, I want to do that steadily.”
