A writer who showed up to my meetup today said “a problem that a character can walk away from, is a book a reader can walk away from.”
I cannot stop thinking about this.
– Eric Smith, agent at P.S. Literary Agency and author of Don’t Read the Comments
The writer referenced in the tweet was Jay Whistler, by the way!

Oh hey look, it's news! ✨🎮✨ Thrilled to finally announce this project that honestly just makes me *happy*. Writing about these kids and their passion for video games has been a joy. I hope all the gamers out there will feel seen and validated, like I know my kid-self would have. Huge shout out to Tricia Lin at Random House Kids —working with her has been such a positive and uplifting experience, a real bright spot in my career. Likewise for my agent, @ericsmithrocks, who made this happen. How did I get so lucky? Can't wait to share book one with you next year! #mg #mglit #videogames #gamerkid #gamerparent #videogames #esports #middlegrade #kidlit #videogamebook #booklovin #bookworm #rightsreport #publishersweekly #newbookdeal #bookdeal #publishingnews #randomhouse #trilogy — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3dAQjFl

31 Days of quietYA with Eric Smith: YA Music Books
Maybe it’s the band geek in me, or the teen who never quite got over being in a ska-punk band, but there’s something about a YA novel centered around music that just totally grabs me. The thrill of a first concert, band practice, chasing down that rare record… I totally and completely get it. And as do these wonderful, powerful reads, whether they’re based here, back in history, or in imagined fantasy or sci-fi worlds.
More than Maybe by Erin Hahn
Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson
The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow
The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu
Ruinsong by Julia Ember
Music From Another World by Robin Talley
Ghost Wood Song by Erica Waters
The Love Curse of Melody McIntyre Robin Talley
Now That I've Found You by Kristina Forest

Dear Evan Hansen is way too relatable. "Does anybody have a map? Anybody maybe happen to know how the hell to do this? I don't know if you can tell But this is me just pretending to know." These lyrics apply to my career in publishing, working on my novel, AND parenting. Wow.

BOOK REVIEW- @ericsmithrocks — “So much about pinball is about letting go. Pulling the plunger ands taking the journey. And there’s a lot I need to let go of. But it’s so much easier playing a game than living a life” “You can walk away from a place, you can go your own way, and still hold on to the memories that made it special. Because at the end of the day, it isn’t about the place. It’s about who you shared it with” “Sometimes it takes something genuine to spot the fake” “Handling all the social, hanging out around his cafes, it’s my one big way to stay in my dad’s orbit…I want to be a moon in my family’s galaxy” I don’t think I ever read a book where pin ball machines were used as metaphors for relationships, whether familial or romantic. A light hearted rom com that’s cozy and all around fluff, I enjoyed watching (reading) Whitney and Adam rediscovering themselves and each other through their obligations to the people they love. While both characters were petty and hilarious in terms of fighting online public for everyone to see, I’d have to say Adam was my favorite (No shade to Whitney). Him being a workaholic and not being used to the dating scene resonated with me. Plus, his financial situation was a whole lot different than Whitney’s. A story that involves letting go of things, but holding onto memories; knowing who your real friends are; and letting yourself spend the night with the one person you thought you had nothing in common with, it will definitely bring you out of a funk mood. Just remember to keep some Swedish fish by your side when writing your reviews! 😉 #bookish #bookphotography #bookcommunity #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookishlife #booklove #bookishcommunity #bookblogger #bookblogging #bookreview #bookrecommendation #mybookfeatures #bookaholic #readersofinstagram #readingislife #readingisfun #readersgonnaread #readingaddict #bookwhore #bookwormforlife #bookaddict #quotes #fiction #fiction #fictionbooks #fictionmatters https://www.instagram.com/p/CWFSxjsr9fF/?utm_medium=tumblr

5 (More) 2021 YA Contemporary Books I’m Excited For!
5 (More) 2021 YA Contemporary Books I’m Excited For! ft. @xtineMAY // @loanloan // @ericsmithrocks // @NicolaYoon // @KelseyRodkey & bonus! @KatCho #bookpost #bookblog #bloggerswanted #bloggerstribe #bloggingcommunity #bookish
I don’t know when I started falling back in love with YA Contemporary novels – but I’m glad I did. Otherwise, I’d be missing out on some really great sounding ones. I’ve done two of these posts so far, and they’re legit just an excuse for me to scream about these books and how much I want to read them.  Better Together – I was a fan of Christine’s first book, so when I heard she was writing a new…

In my day job December 2020 team meeting, I reviewed our Vision and Values. . One of our specific department Values is Joy. Finding joy in what we do. . I shared with my team that in difficult times, all those well-meaning suggestions to DO more to find joy, to write down all the things we're thankful for, or to try to BUILD new habits to find joy could be exhausting. . Instead, I offered them my thoughts looking into the new year: . You can't grow covered in salt. (snagged from @ericsmithrocks) So sometimes finding joy means shaking off the salt so you can breath again, grow again, then take joy in what you already do... rather than burning yourself out doing more and more while feeling it will never be enough. . That's what my phrase and my goal is for 2021. Shake off the salt. . #startingover #writerlife #writerinspiration #writersofinstagram #authorsofinstagram #happiness #happynewyear https://www.instagram.com/p/CJj2mwlgBQN/?igshid=de2yvy7axg30

Announcing my first book under my super stealthy YA Contemporary pen name, Remi K. England! Coming early 2022 from the amazing @wednesdaybooks, with immense gratitude to my rad agent @ericsmithrocks and my new editor, Alexandra Sehulster. . I wrote this book back in 2016 after attending a small Sherlock convention, at which my friends and I literally looked around and went... why are there so many sparkly gowns? Oh my god there is a beauty pageant happening in the same hotel as this fandom con and I need this fanfic right now. . Reader, I wrote that fic. . This book means so much to me on so many levels. It's all about finding your people and your safe space, especially within fandom. It's about experimenting to figure out your identity. It's my first time writing a non-binary POV character whose journey is so much like mine. And of course, like all my books, it's about queer joy and triumph and happy endings where the world is better than we found it on page one. . This one's for every person who found their identity in a tumblr post, in a fanfic, or at a convention. For anyone who's experienced that shock of returning home from a con and being dropped back into the real world where you can't always wear your identity quite as openly. I can't wait for you to meet Teagan and Kay. . . . #mkengland #wednesdaybooks #yacontemporary #yaromcom #yalovin #ireadya #yabooks #booknerdigans #bookworm #sapphic #wlw #queerya #lgbtqreads #yapride #fandom #bbcsherlock #fanfic #fanfiction #ya #authorsofinstagram #writersofinstagram #librarian #librariansofinstagram #comingsoon — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/36UVXxg
