Next | Unfamiliar Masterlist
The first time Jia saw you, she didn’t recognize you. She only knew you as the fluffy black cat with your bright green eyes and sharp teeth that poked out of your mouth.
“Hello?” her familiar, calming voice had you whipping around, almost excited to see the girl you’d help get back home.
But when you saw her, you paused as well -- just for a moment. You were so used to seeing the foreign girl from a much lower angle, so seeing her at your normal height made her look a little different than you remembered.
“Jiaying,” your face slowly broke into a smile. “It’s been a while.”
“We know each other?” she asked, but she didn’t seem afraid. Maybe a little confused, but her wide, blue eyes were full of curiosity rather than concern.
“Suppose I look a bit different when I’m not a cat,” you chuckled.
Jia’s eyes widened, “_____?”
“Nice to see you again.”
She ran up to you and wrapped her arms around your waist, giving you a tight hug and refusing to let go, “_____, I missed you!”
“Wow, okay,” you laughed, rubbing her back.
Honestly, you were kind of...happy she missed you. You didn’t expect her to, really. Maybe it was because you weren’t used to having friends. Maybe because you couldn’t really communicate with anybody. Maybe because you were just a cat to most people.
But you already knew Jia wasn’t most people.
“How are you suddenly here?” she asked, pulling back but keeping her hands on your waist. “Well, how am I here?”
“You tell me,” you shrugged. “It’s your power, isn’t it?”
You recalled back in the cottage when Jia explained her whole background to you. It was around the time she had realized you understood her, and it was mainly for her to keep sane. She would talk to you about anything and everything, and you’d just sit there and listen -- it wasn’t like you could give your two cents anyway.
“Is this what you look like as a human?” she asked, stepping back a few paces to look you over. She giggled. “You’re so cute!”
“Haven’t heard that a lot...” you chuckled, nodding your head slowly.
Jia’s expression suddenly turned serious, her bright blue eyes looking curiously into yours, “What exactly...happened to you, _____?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why don’t you look like this all the time?”
You ran a hand through your hair, letting out a gust of air as you shrugged, “I just can’t.”
You knew why. You knew very well the reason why. But you didn’t want to tell Jia. You knew she’d want to involve herself, and you didn’t want that. You didn’t want to give yourself a false sense of hope like you had years ago.
She frowned, her brows furrowing as she stared down at the ground. The two of you were in the forest -- not any location in particular -- and the sun seemed to be setting or rising. You weren’t completely sure. Dreams were weird.
“Are you going to come visit?” she wondered after a moment of her just staring down at the grass, finally raising her head again to look at you.
You shrugged, “Maybe.”
“I want you to.”
You couldn’t help but smile a bit, “Yeah, I know. But I’m not becoming your house cat, y’know.”
“You remind me of Jooyeon,” she stated with a warm laugh.
“Remind me which one that is again.”
“The thief.”
“Ah, right,” you nodded. “Well, I’m not sure if that should be a compliment, then.”
“_____, the offer’s always open,” Jia told you, changing the subject back. She seemed to excited to talk to you again to be able to focus on one thing, but you thought that was kind of adorable.
When you saw her before, she was more sad and lonely. She missed her family and you were just focusing on getting her back to them -- and getting that old hag killed was just a bonus. But now she was brighter and warmer and more excitable. You liked seeing this Jia. You were happy for her.
“Thanks,” you nodded, “but--”
“You don’t have to say anything about it,” she interjected. “Just...know it’s there, okay?”
You offered her a small half-smile, “Okay.”
“I’m going to wake up soon,” she sighed. “Jiwoo’s crying really loudly. I think Mingyu’s too tired to wake up.”
“Right, the dad,” you nodded, vaguely recalling her saying one of the werewolves had a child maybe half a year ago -- but that was maybe almost a month ago. The idea of having a family was so weird to you considering you hadn’t been in your human form for a long time. “Well...take care of yourself, alright?”
“You too,” she smiled softly.
And then she faded from your dream, leaving you alone with a weird, empty feeling.
You woke up not too long after that, your tail curled around yourself as you rested on the couch in the small cottage. You weren’t sure how long until someone came along and found it, but you continued to sleep there. You weren’t sure what else to do with yourself now other than sleep. You also had to find new means of feeding yourself, hoping you wouldn’t have to resort to catching field mice again. You didn’t necessarily have to eat, but feeling hungry was just uncomfortable. The witch made you catch your own food for a while until you just started stealing her breakfast and dinner before running out the window to eat it where she couldn’t bother you. Then, of course, there was Jia who took care of you properly.
Of course there was a part of you who wanted to go home with Jia. But you also knew that wasn’t where you belonged. You couldn’t live out your pathetic life as a pet. Even though you didn’t expect to fulfill what the witch had told you, you didn’t want to live for however long as some house cat. Besides, you didn’t want anyone knowing anything about you or why you were the way you were. Jia only gathered a little bit of information, and that was all you would allow.
Your eyes looked over to the window, seeing the sun just barely about to rise. You stretched and let out a silent yawn before hopping down from the couch, and making your way outside through the window in the kitchen. Then you went off in search of something to keep you entertained for the day, just like you did every other day.
-
Jihoon wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand as he straightened his back. Having fresh vegetables was nice, but gathering them when the hot sun was beating down on him kind of sucked. He would’ve much rather roped someone else into doing it alongside Minghao and Seungkwan, but he was an alpha and had to be responsible.
In the yard, he could hear Jiwoo’s soft giggles as Danbi played with her in her lap with Soomin, Mingyu’s grunts as he chopped firewood near the house with the ax that Jooyeon was proud to say she sharpened, and Seungcheol and Joshua attempting to fix a broken shutter on the second floor. The other wolves were inside either making food or doing other chores. Jooyeon was off at the market with Jeonghan to get groceries, and Jia had asked to tag along. While Minghao was definitely even more protective of her now, he knew he couldn’t live in fear of her being taken again -- plus the witch was dead thanks to him -- so he let her go, knowing Jeonghan and Jooyeon would keep sharp eyes on her.
“She was very excited to go, though,” Minghao had said when him, Seungkwan, and Jihoon had began working in the vegetable garden. “More excited than normal.”
“Is she still hoping to find that cat?” Seungkwan scoffed. “The witch is gone, so the cat probably is, too.”
“But it was with her at the cottage. Junhui tried to find it for her after but it ran off.”
But even while working, Jihoon didn’t think much of the situation or the cat. Even though Junhui still liked to poke fun at him for how much he seemed to like the fluffy black cat, it was still just a cat. It wasn’t significant to him, and it was easily forgotten. Why would he be hung up on some animal, anyway? It had been a month since he’d seen it.
“Hao!” Jia’s voice called as she walked around the back of the house from the front with Jeonghan, and Jooyeon flanking hthem, Jeonghan carrying the majority of the groceries while Jooyeon only had two bags.
“Home already?” Minghao asked as he stood up from his work, his t-shirt damped with sweat that also slicked his black hair back.
“Did you happen to grab any lemons?” Seungkwan asked with a slight whine in his voice. “I want some of Danbi’s lemonade.”
“Then grow some,” Jooyeon deadpanned before heading inside to put groceries away -- she tried to take some of the bags from Jeonghan, but he shooed her away.
“Did you have fun?” Minghao asked, walking through the garden to meet his mate halfway. “You seemed eager to leave.”
“Because I saw _____ in my dream!” she grinned.
“Who?” Mingyu called from where he was still chopping up firewood, his shirt long since discarded.
“The cat,” both Minghao and Jia replied.
“I was hoping maybe she’d be at the market,” Jia explained before he face slowly began to fall, “but...I don’t think she was.”
Jihoon turned around to look at Jia, running a hand through his sweaty hair, “Remind me again the significance of this cat?”
Jia merely shrugged, “I liked her.”
Jihoon sighed and shook his head. He knew that couldn’t be all there was to it -- Jia liked a lot of animals but she didn’t wander out in the forest looking for the squirrel she fed from her palm once -- but he also knew it was useless to fight with her on this. Jia was a strange girl -- very sweet and likable, but strange. Peculiar was probably the proper word.
“How did you have a dream with a cat in it?” Seungcheol wondered as he held the ladder that Joshua had climbed up to fix the shutter.
“Yeah, that seems...weird,” Joshua agreed, not looking away from where he was hammering a nail into the wood.
But while the pack debated on the accuracy of Jia’s story and reasoning, Jihoon just went back to work and drowned them all out.

aoi and/or akane for the headcanon thing?
Them!! Aight, Imma start with Aoi
Sexuality Headcanon: Well it's not really headcanon, he's bi and there's nothing you can do about it <3
Gender Headcanon: Gender nonconforming he/they dude that often goes over the top with acessorizing and honestly good for him I too will die if I am perceived without a tiara, scarf, gloves and earrings all at once
A ship I have with said character: @gaulemtypefemale-dm-l-016 talked my ear off about Aoilight once and completely sold me on the two. I'm not big on shipping but I want good things for Aoi and they're really cute and snakegay so like yeah I really enjoy this one
A BROTP I have with said character: Him and Phi! I read a fic once that had a bit about them getting along and forming a friendship based on being the only blatantly queer people in the crash keys meetings, and I love that for them lol
A NOTP I have with said character: Him and Clover... I won't tag my friend they haven't been active in forever but we've talked about this So Many Times lmao. They really like the two together and whatever good for them but?? I can't?? There was even one time we were on a freaking field trip bus and they were trying to make this pairing make sense and I was absolutely losing my mind. It was a ton of fun lol. Anyways, yeaaah.. she axe murdered him and he called her a stupid bitch while holding a gun, not my definition of romance
A random headcanon: I came up with this literally yesterday or so cause of the whole health thing I had, but like, I can see him giving himself a scar from scratching the syringe mark too much in the aftermath of the first nonary game
General Opinion over said character: Gotta be one of my top comfort characters of all time, no joke, don't wanna give away this bit of my tragic backstory so like, what can I say, seeing this story from his perspective just means a lot to me. The system and general life circumstances were never kind but he was just that stubborn and determined to find a way for their little family of two to be happy again despite all the compromises, like, being the older sibling as well sure helps appreciate some stuff going on there mostly the willingness to commit a crime in retaliation. Also I genuinely love that he's, by his own words, just a secretary and there for support lol
Okay now for the girl boss half of the dynamic duo
Sexuality Headcanon: Idk never thought about it much, she comes across to me like as someone who's not necessarily aroace but will not give a crap about picking a label because she doesn't give a crap about getting in a relationship with, or even paying this kind of attention to anyone that's not her boi™ but who knows when they're not star-crossed anymore how she'd be about it
Gender Headcanon: Nonbinary she/her because idk I get gender vibes from her, I feel like she'd have a lot of gender feelings going on under the surface, like, idk how to explain it. Is it because my hair used to look like that and I used to dress in a lot of baggy purples and blacks? Probaby Love the idea of her weaponizing her inner gender ambiguity with the Zero stuff tho
A ship I have with said character: Junepei, for the soul, it's got so much to it and none of it is straightforward aside from the fact that they have like a bond™ I like all flavors this ship comes in, divorce wins junepei, healthy lovestruck junepei and c-team polycule
A BROTP I have with said character: I think she would be besties with Clover, they'd go shopping and pester the hell out of their big brothers together <3
A NOTP I have with said character: I honestly don't know? I haven't really seen many ships with her that aren't Junepei or super tiny and valid rarepairs... Well I don't like Sigma, some people must ship the two right, don't like it
A random headcanon: Everytime she comes across Junpei or Aoi asleep on some part of their houses she kind of stops for a moment to make sure their chests are going up and down and they're like... alive. If she didn't stare and check then the images she'd have in the corner of her eye would be a bit too bloody. She doesn't tell either of them but abruptly wakes them up from time to time
General Opinion over said character: Here's the thing, I always use the word Ambivalent to describe my opinion on her, like, specifically that word. Not neutral, ambivalent. Contradictory feelings, much like she herself is quite paradoxical. She's absolutely outstanding as a character and though she's the kind of person I know I'd loathe to have to deal with on many levels there are also so many other levels that I like, can relate to her on? Going back and playing through 999 again made me stop and realize that, It's weird, I'd be fully on board with her if her motivations didn't graduate to a generic saving the world plot later on tbh

The Little Vampire (Ch. 2)
You can find my masterlist in my bio!
Characters: Nell, Levi, & Satan
Tagging: @plumpblueberry @starry-starry-night24 @gay-noodle-clan
A/N: Day 3 of the 12 Days of OCmas! He is already so attached to his little vampire. Who should she meet next?
Tumblr media
Being summoned had turned into a complicated, scheduled event. Levi began to enjoy his trips to visit the girl, bringing her snacks and playing board games. She intently listened to his ramblings about Ruri-chan without judgement or teasing. He honestly had more fun with her than anyone else.
He looked forward to visiting, despite being confined to an empty bedroom.
Except today was different.
It was late, but he was up watching a new anime that was finally available in the Devildom when he was tugged through the void and into the human world. They weren’t scheduled to meet again until the end of the week. “Nell? What’s this abo-” His words trailing off.
The room was empty, and the circle at his feet poorly drawn as if done in a hurry. He’d never come without her being here, and never had the door been left open. The demon wasn’t sure that she left the room at all. Nell never told him about her life here, only asking that he keep her company and play games with her.
“L-Levi!” A shout from somewhere else in the house. Her voice shrill and desperate, hoarse like she’d been yelling for hours.
The layout of the house unknown to him, but the stench of humans drew him down the staircase. There were more than he’d expected, and all quite surprised at his sudden presence. As for Levi, his mouth gaped at the scene before him.
“Levi! Help me!” Nell cried out from where she was held down on the coffee table, a human on either side of her writhing body. A makeshift beheading block. She managed to get an arm out, helplessly reaching towards him.
The large human with the axe stuck his foot against her head, his boot cutting into her pale skin and drawing blood. “Stop squalling, you monster.” His hate-filled eyes turned to Levi. “This doesn’t concern demons so move along!”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” Levi spat out, demonic power erupting from his body. His transformation enough to send fear rattling through the pathetic human’s fragile forms. Golden irises were overflowing with absolute rage. His voice inhumanly deep and commanding. “That little vampire belongs to me.”
Although the leader tried to be strong, his limbs betrayed him, trembling like leaves in the presence of someone so powerful. “What does a demon want with a-” No words could form with his back against the wall, gaze unable to look away from the demon towering above him. The man completely paralyzed.
Levi’s head tilted to the side, assessing his prey with muted interest. Humans were so weak, and yet they pretended to be at the top of the food chain. “It won’t matter to you. You hurt someone important to me.” His tail slithered up to the man’s throat, wrapping gingerly around it....
With one squeeze, his head popped off, splatting against the floor.
The others scattered but none were able to escape. Angering a demon, even one without his strength was a death sentence. No one did so and lived to talk about it.
“Nell?” Levi regained control of himself, scratching his bloodstained cheek awkwardly. He found the vampire quivering in the corner of the room, violet eyes sweeping over the mess. A wave of guilt flooded over him. He must have frightened her so much with his anger.
He glanced around, finding her stuffed dinosaur under the coffee table, likely from when she’d dropped when they were throwing her around. He knelt down in front of her, reaching out and offering the stuffed animal to her. “I’m sorry- oof-”
The girl threw herself into his arms, the force knocking him over. Her cheek rubbed against his chest as she sniffled but smiled. “I knew you’d save me!” A mixture of emotions bubbled over. Nell was crying out of happiness and relief. “If you hadn’t come... they’d of--they’d of- hic.” The fear of almost dying turned into a sobbing mess. She tried to wipe them away with the backs of her hands.
Levi patted his hand against the top of her head. “It’s alright. You don’t have to worry about them anymore.” Mostly because he’d killed them, but he had another reason. He produced a golden band from his pocket. “Check this out. I had my brother help me get it. It’ll let you come back to the Devildom with me. It’s like a super rare item!”
At first it was too big to fit around her dainty wrist, but it shrunk in size once it touched her skin. “Woah. You’re giving me a rare item? Like...” Her brows furrowed as she dug through her memory. “Like the Silver Lion sword in that dungeon game we played?”
“Yeah! Just like that! And it’s all yours! I mean... if you want to come with me.”
Her small arms locked around his neck. “Yes! I wanna go now. Can we go now? Before the others come and lock me up again.”
More humans? Levi cast a glance around at the carnage. He didn’t have the energy to face any more of them. Better to abandon this game than continue to fight. He’d gotten his prize anyways.
Nell nearly fell when they were transported back to his bedroom. She spun on the ball of her foot, throwing her hands up. “That was so cool! It was like poof and we were here!” Her spinning only stopped when she got dizzy, teetering around as she laughed.
Levi collapsed into his gaming chair, all his energy drained. Traveling between the two realms was a big enough strain, but also using so much demonic power only made the demon exhausted. With his elbow propped up on the arm, he rested his chin on his palm.
“Is this where you sleep?” Nell pushed her hands against the edge of the tub to see it better but slipped and fell headfirst into the pile of pillows. Her legs kicked in the air before she flipped upright.
“It’s weird, isn’t it?” Levi asked, nervously turning his gaze to find Henry in the large aquarium. Only normies slept in beds. His tub was the perfect size, and he could cuddle his Ruri-chan body pillow without any issues.
The girl hummed, brushed her white hair out of her face. “No, it makes sense.” She grinned at his surprised expression. “Besides, it’s comfy. Can I sleep here, too? I’m really tiny so we can both fit.”
“S-sure.” He hadn’t thought this far ahead. The situation had turned out to be more dire than he’d realized, but even without it, the demon didn’t have anything in place for her once they’d arrived here. Levi racked his brain for his next move while the girl continually dove into the pillows and then popped up on the other side of the tub and repeated.
The only thing he did know was that Lucifer couldn’t find out she was here.
“I see the item worked for you.”
Nell slipped back under the pillows, peeking out between them to spy on the new demon in the room. His green eyes flickered to where she hid but quickly moved to Levi. Which one was he? She’d heard about all of them.
“Although, I’m not sure that keeping a human as a pet is a good idea.”
“I’m not a human!” The girl sprung up, haphazardly knocking the pillows out of the tub and onto the floor. Her index fingers tapped against her two large canines. “I’m a vampire. See? Fangs!”
Levi rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do next, but think you can keep her a secret? If Lucifer finds out, he’ll punish me for sure.” His shoulders dropped in dejection. And who knows what he’d do to Nell. “Nell, this is my brother Satan.”
“Oh, the one that likes books and is a cat.”
“A cat?” Satan blinked at her in confusion. He wasn’t not like a cat, although he didn’t think that would be a bad thing. She certainly didn’t say it as a negative, so it was possible that it was meant as a compliment.
The vampire climbed out of the tub and approached the fourth born brother who was deep in serious thought. Her hand tugged on his sleeve, violet eyes that of puppy’s. “Please don’t tell the bossy one I’m here. I want to stay with Levi.” Her gaze fell away, distracted by the mountain of games and toys around her. “If I have to go back, the humans will kill me.”
Satan chuckled at her reference to the eldest as the bossy one. “Your secret is safe with me.” He ruffled her hair and smiled softly. She was quite cute, and it would be entertaining to see how long Levi could keep her hidden.
“Nell, no!” Levi chastised. His tail wrapped around her waist, hauling the girl away from his brother. Her fangs grazed against Satan’s wrist but didn’t actually sink in. He held her in the air, sighing. “You can’t bite him. Actually, you can’t bite anyone. No biting.”
Her index fingers poked together as she gave Satan a sheepish expression. “I’m sorry.”
“Levi, you do know you have to feed her, right? Vampires survive on blood, and if she’s willing to bite a demon, then she must be starving,” Satan said, observing the two with curiosity. He’d never seen Levi so invested in something 3-D.
“I know. I’ll figure something out.” He set her down but didn’t release his tail’s grip. Procuring human blood in the Devildom would be difficult. And if he bought it online in bulk, Lucifer was sure to notice. Levi gritted his teeth and rolled up his sleeve. “For now, you can drink from me. Just be quick.” His head turned away, not wanting to see his own blood.
Nell stared at his bare skin, tongue gliding across her teeth. She hadn’t properly drunk in a while, and it was oh so tempting. “Are you sure? I can control myself... maybe.” She would do her best to abstain.
“Yes. I’m sure. It’ll be like in that one episode where Ruri-chan’s best friend was turned into a vampire and needed blood so Ruri-chan sacrificed herself for them to not suffer! A true inspiration!”
Her soft giggle drew his attention back to her. “You’re so funny, Levi. I bet Ruri-chan would be super proud of you.”
Tears welled in his eyes. If that were true, he could die a happy demon. “Alright, let’s do this! Ahh- ouch!” Levi whined as her fangs pierced his skin. It was nothing at all in Ruri-chan! It stung and burned. He clenched his fist and bit his lip. He would not back down.
But damn did it hurt!
Nell drank enough to feel full and then collapsed forward onto his lap with a happy sigh. “You have nice blood,” she whispered, eyelids too heavy to stay open. With a full tummy and the adrenaline of the day wearing off, the little vampire fell promptly asleep.
“I’ll do some research on where you can purchase blood. In the meantime, be sure to keep her in here where none of the others will find her,” Satan said. Once Mammon or Asmo got a hold of a secret, the entire house would know about it in a matter of minutes.
“Thanks, Satan. I owe you,” Levi said, reaching a hesitant head out to pet her white hair. She was kind of like a pet, like Henry, but more hands on. He lifted her up and climbed into his tub with her. She’d been right, they both could fit in here comfortably. For the first night ever, he didn’t need his Ruri-chan pillow.
But keeping her a secret would turn out to be much harder than he’d imagined.

Into the Woods - Part Five
Hey! I’m having trouble blocking out my big ass fight scene - I want it to be awesome sauce, so I’m spending extra time on it. But, because the first half of the chapter is an entirely different pace, I thought I’d let you have that now. So, short chapter, but sooner! Thankyou so much for all the love this fic is getting - seriously, I’m so flattered and amazed.
Also, a quick explanation - in this AU, I’ve decided youkai age the same as humans until they hit their peak physical strength at around thirty, and then their aging process slows down (makes more sense to me anyway - who would wanna be stuck in their awkward teen years for decades!) Inu’s in his mid twenties, a couple of years older than Kagome.
Tagging my two main cheerleaders for this @clearwillow and @keichanz and also @redflamesofpassion @xxracheyxx @mcornilliac@inuyashasnook @cstorm86 @xfangheartx @wenchster
Song inspiration for this one is The Last of the Real Ones - Fall Out Boy
I was just an only child of the universe And then I found you And then I found you You are the sun and I am just the planets Spinning around you Spinning around you You were too good to be true Gold plated But what's inside you But what's inside you I know this whole damn city thinks it needs you But not as much as I do As much as I do, yeah'
Cause you're the last of a dying breed Write our names in the wet concrete I wonder if your therapist knows everything about me I'm here in search of your glory There's been a million before me That ultra-kind of love You never walk away from You're just the last of the real ones
Part One  Part Two  Part Three  Part Four
Tumblr media
Kagome couldn’t stop smiling as they walked away from the dojo and back down the darkened hallway. She was still scared, terrified even, of the confrontation still to come, but suddenly her whole existence made sense.
She’d made sure to never reveal to her family and friends how utterly disconnected she’d felt from her life in Tokyo. No matter how hard she’d worked, how hard she’d studied, how hard she’d laughed to cover the existence of that small soft voice, she’d always felt that she didn’t fit. A weirdly square peg in a teeming city of smooth round holes. The discovery that she made sense here in this place was a little overwhelming, but in a good way.
She tightened her fist around the grip of the bow; it was comforting feeling the roughness against her palm, the weight of the quiver on her shoulders. She had purpose. And discovering it had rather a lot to do with the gruff but good hearted hanyou walking beside her in the darkness. She gave the large calloused hand that was safely leading her through the gloomy hallway a grateful squeeze.
A sudden thought occurred to her. “Hey Inuyasha?”
 “Yeah?”
“You said before that you grew up knowing what you were destined for. How did you know exactly?” The gloom was lessening, she could just about see his silvery hair now, and she was relieved. She had always been a little afraid of the dark, and it helped to have something to focus on. She could see his pointed ears swivelling back towards the sound of her voice, and she pushed down a sudden urge to reach up and touch them, find out if they were as soft as she hoped they might be.
“My father was a Guardian, so I grew up here in this house. There was no way of escapin’ it. And then when I was ten, I was chosen by the Tessaiga”, he said, reaching back with his free hand and fondly patting the axe handle near his shoulder. Light from the onsen was filtering down the hallway now, making it easier for her to watch her step, but in the shadows behind his back she saw a pulse of yellow light surrounding the axe, as if in response to his touch. “The Tessaiga originally belonged to the first youkai that battled alongside Midoriko, and it’s passed down to each new Guardian to wield after they’re chosen. Each generation pours more youki into it – it’s sentient to some extent; knows who the best match for it would be. And it chose me.”
“Wow!” breathed Kagome. It was so fascinating to learn that outside her regular boring existence in Tokyo there was a place where something this magical continued. Especially now that she had found out that she had some part in it.
“Was there some sort of ceremony when you found out?” she asked eagerly, moving up to walk beside him now that she could see better. She could just picture it; a crowd of Youkai children all reaching out to touch the axe with no response. Then Inuyasha laying a small clawed finger on the handle and emerging triumphant, holding the axe up over his head with those cute puppy ears standing up straight on his head, a proud beaming smile on his face. It made her happy to just think about it. She was surprised to hear his cheerless sigh.
“Not exactly”, he shrugged, guiding her past the onsen and back into the main room. “About fifteen years ago, Ichiro and my father were asked to help at another shrine – the Guardian’s never usually leave the shrine unprotected, but a dragon youkai clan moved down from Tokyo causing trouble. The bastards thought they could run some sorta yakuza style drug smuggling operation outa the port in Fukuoka, and it would have been bad if it had escalated to include our area. My father and Ichiro didn’t want to take the risk of a physical attack on the shrine, in case it released Naraku. There ended up being a massive battle with several shrines involved. My father never came home.”
“Oh, Inuyasha”, gasped Kagome, squeezing his hand gently, “I’m so sorry!”
“Can’t change what happened. He was a great dad, and I missed him for a long while; still do, but I’ve learned to live with it”, he said, shrugging again. “Anyway, Ichiro made it home relatively unscathed; he’d managed to bring the Tessaiga with him. Said that a choice would have ta be made between me and my brother, seeing we were the only ones left from the original youkai blood line. Everyone was expectin’ Tessaiga to choose Sesshomaru, me included.”
 “Why?”
He scratched the back of his head self-consciously. “Well, he’s the eldest – he’s nearly ten years older than me, and he’s full youkai. His mother is an inuyoukai, like my father, and comes from a very influential family in Kyoto with a lot of political clout in youkai society. My mother was human, just a local girl from the village, with no other family of her own. My father fell in love with her and after I was born, they got married. Sesshomaru and his mother had already moved back to Kyoto. They’d been divorced for a while before he met my mother.”
Inuyasha stooped to tip a ladle of water over the fire pit, dousing the embers. The only light in the room came from several covered lanterns which hung from brackets in the wall at regular intervals, and the round full moon rising over the mountain, shining through the large window behind them. Inuyasha’s hair gleamed like polished silver in the moonlight, and Kagome noticed his amber eyes glowed, cat-like in the semi-darkness. She supposed that made sense, seeing he could see well in the dark.
“So Sesshomaru didn’t live here with you?” She put down her bow and quiver and picked up the empty teacups and saucers, placing them back on the black enamel tray with the teapot and tea caddy. She followed Inuyasha as he took the tray from her and carried it and the kettle over to a small sink with a hand pump.
“Nope. Just me and my Dad”, he said, pumping water into the sink and adding the remainder of the hot water from the kettle and a small squirt of detergent. “Mama died when I was eight, from a fever.” He picked up a teacup almost reverently, stroking around the gold rim and over the hand painted image of dainty plum blossoms before he placed it in the hot water along with the other teacup and saucers, washing each carefully.
Kagome swallowed a small noise - she realised with a pang of empathy that the tea set must have belonged to his mother. She had wondered earlier why such an obviously rough and ready outdoorsy type of male should possess such a thing, but now it was perfectly clear. Spying a dish towel on a hook, she took it down and dried each cup carefully after he’d washed them, placing them back on the enamel tray next to the ornate tea caddy. Smiling his thanks, he rinsed the teapot, and passed it to her for drying.
“Sesshomaru only came back from Kyoto because Ichiro called him to let him know about Dad’s death. Both a them thought Tessaiga’s choice would be a formality - they were pretty pissed when it chose me.”
“But why would my Great Uncle be mad if the sword chose you?” she wondered, placing the dry teapot on the tray. “I mean, you were obviously meant to be the Guardian?”
“Uh…” Inuyasha paused, looking sideways at Kagome, who smiled in understanding and patted him on the arm.
“You can say whatever you like about him. I only met him once, when I was much younger, and I didn’t like him, not at all.” Kagome hung the dish towel back on the hook and crossed her arms, glowering at the memory. “He came to my Father’s funeral, tried to get my Grandpa to turn me and my very pregnant mother out of my father’s house so it could be sold, seeing my father had left no will. Grandpa refused, and they yelled at each other. I think it caused some sort of rift between them, because Grandpa stayed in Tokyo to help look after us, even though he didn’t really like living in the city at all. And Mama told me when I was older that Papa had moved away from Takamori village because he didn’t like the way the Higurashi family controlled everything.” She startled at Inuyasha’s rumbling growl.
“That explains a lot actually. He said he wanted to wait until he’d spoken to your grandfather before choosing a successor, but if they weren’t talkin’ to each other at all… keh! It sounds just like somethin’ he’d do. Whenever my Dad wasn’t around, he spoke to my mother like dirt. Misogynistic bastard.” He growled, pulling the plug to empty the sink. “He never liked me either. Didn’t let a day go by without lettin’ me know how Sesshomaru would a been a better choice. He didn’t like youkai much, but he liked half-breeds even less.”
His eyes widened suddenly and he swung around abruptly, turning to face Kagome. “Wait, you said that he came to your father’s funeral?” Kagome nodded. “And you said that the first time Midoriko spoke to you was just before your father died?” Kagome nodded again, and Inuyasha’s sudden roar of anger made her jump.
“Fucking bastard!” he yelled. “He would a known! He would a been able to tell that Midoriko had chosen you, and because he was a narrow-minded bigot, he chose to look the other way! You could have been here Kagome, all those years ago!” He paced the length of the room, snarling, clenching and unclenching his fists spasmodically. His voice deepened, his previous pleasant baritone gravel becoming harsh and rasping. “Always knew there was somethin’ wrong. I couldn’t trust him. We never worked well together; our spiritual energies never blended. And he always said it was cause I was a hanyou, that Tessaiga made a mistake. That I was a mistake.” He roared his anger towards the window where the shrine on the mountain was just visible in the light of the full moon. “YOU’RE LUCKY YOU’RE FUCKING DEAD ALREADY BASTARD, OR I’D TEAR YOU APART!”
“Inuyasha?” said Kagome uncertainly. She felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up in response to the pure rage rolling off him as he paced around the room. She understood why he was so angry. She would be upset too if they didn’t have much bigger problems to handle at the moment. She had to try and help him calm down.
“Inuyasha!” As he strode past her, she reached out her hand, tugging on his sleeve, and squeaked in surprise as he flicked his gaze toward her with a snarl, his teeth shutting with a loud snap. The sclera of his eyes was a deep ruby red, and jagged purple marks snaked across his cheeks. He looked savage and wild in his anger, ready to hurt anyone who opposed him.
But instead of doing the obviously rational thing and running away, Kagome threw herself toward him, wrapping her arms around his waist and burrowing her face into his chest. She could feel the frantic pulse of his heartbeat and the vibration through his chest from his increasingly loud growls of anger. The axe on his back seemed to pulse too, a heavy dominating presence against her own, demanding that she submit and cower. His clawed fingers wrapped around her upper arms with bruising pressure, but she refused to pull away.
“Inuyasha, it’s okay!” she shouted, tilting her face to the side, trying to be heard over his anger. “We found each other, and it’s all going to be okay. Please, I need you to calm down! I don’t know how to do this by myself!” The snarls grew less intense, and the pressure around her arms lessened. She felt Inuyasha’s head drop to hers, his cheek resting on her hair, heard him struggle to calm his breathing. She tried to squeeze her arms around him even tighter, rubbing her face against his chest, the buttons on his shirt hard against her cheek.
“It’s okay”, she repeated softly. We’re together now. It’s okay.” The growling stopped altogether, and his arms wrapped around her shoulders.
“Sorry”, he sighed heavily, still trying to calm his breathing. “Sorry you had to see me fly into a battle rage like that Kagome. That should only happen when we’re in mortal danger. I lost control a myself. ” He rubbed his cheek against her hair, and Kagome made a soothing sound. “Kagome”, he sighed wearily, his voice still a low and rasping. “It’s just, for the last fifteen years I was told that I wasn’t enough. I thought there was something wrong with me. And you said before you had felt the same way. And to find out it was because we were meant to connect and had been deliberately kept apart… I’m sorry Kagome.” His hands moved to rub up and down her upper arms gently. “I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
Kagome looked up and shook her head, relieved to see the anger fading from his face. “There’s no need to apologise - I’m glad I could help. We’re meant to be a team, remember?”
She reached up hesitantly to stroke feather light touches over the fading purple marks on his face, smiling a little as a blush flooded his cheeks to cover the jagged lines. “Inuyasha? I know we haven’t known each other for very long, but… before, there was this moment where I felt… like a link… a… a…” Her own cheeks flushed, and her expression twisted in frustration, groaning at her inability to put what she felt into words. She pulled her hand from his face to clutch at his shirt, hiding her face in his chest again.
“I felt it too”, he said softly, resting his chin on the top of her head. “It was our souls accepting each other as a guardian pair. A bond formed – you accepted me as your protector, and I accepted you as the heir of Midoriko’s spiritual power. It don’t always happen like that Kagome.” A short rumbling growl vibrated against Kagome’s chest. “You only gotta look at how well me an Ichiro worked together to see that.” He swallowed; Kagome could feel the movement of his Adam’s apple near her forehead. “Part of my training was reading the shrine records. They said sometimes, a pair of guardians is reborn, wanting to find each other again. They said it only happens when it was a very strong pairing, a true friendship.”
“A friendship?” repeated Kagome, unable to hide the slight tone of disappointment in her voice.
“Sometimes friendship, sometimes… more”, breathed Inuyasha, the blush on his face intensifying.
Kagome tipped back her head and beamed at him, her eyes lighting up, a blush still pinking her own cheeks. Then she looked at him seriously, standing up straighter and releasing him from her hug. She placed her hands on his chest and pushed herself away from him a little, creating some space between them. “But first, Naraku”, she said in a very serious voice.
“Of course”, agreed Inuyasha, in the same serious tone. And they both walked over to the genkan, sitting down to put on their boots in a determined way, lacing them tightly, securing weapons, ready for the fight to come. But Kagome couldn’t help the small smiles and glances she continually sent his way. And she couldn’t stop her heart beating faster and the swooping feeling of pure joy she felt when he returned each little gaze with a beaming fanged grin.

Omg Mal’s fic said that Zoe hadn’t had a make over so that means she probably hasn’t had one since JinAe. You two seem to be tag teaming the Jinae stories so can you write Jeaha giving morgan a make over?
Sure thing anon!  Sorry this took me a while I’ve been kind of busy ^^; Just remember Morgan is @zenoobsessed ‘s ok everyone! This takes place a month after the one shot she did where Morgan cursed Jae-ha
How did she get talked into this? Morgan groaned as she was sitting in the chair, little Ryokuryuu Lina sitting in her lap making sure she couldn’t teleport away. It was just one slip up…. One little mention that she hadn’t had a makeover since Jin-ae and…
“Oh come on Morgan dear, you’ll look stunning when I’m done.” The former Ryokuryuu, Jae-ha hummed as he placed his comb in his teeth to hold together while brushing his fingers through the mage’s rat’s nest of hair. It was worse than Yona’s who often grumbled about unruly hair but Jae-ha insisted on wanting to this, after all he was utterly grateful this woman had saved his life a month ago by cursing him. In fact he had found out a lot about Morgan in that time, thanks to Zeno and Morgan’s own slip ups.
“So tell me more about this beautiful past life of mine.” Jae-ha hummed, taking the comb out of his mouth and working on her hair. “You said I was the queen and your adoptive daughter but what else? Zeno mentioned the first Ryokuryuu was my brother.”
“You were a mess.” Morgan chuckled, playing with Lina’s pigtails. “Always getting into trouble. And swung your axe around at anyone that ticked you off, took three grown men to hold you down since you’d get kidnapped every other week and most times by the time we went to rescue you, you already broke out and beat your kidnappers head’s in.”
Lina giggled. “Daddy sounds like he was silly as a girl!”
“You once walked in on an important meeting Hiryuu had with the nobles, sat on his lap and gave him a hickey right there.” Morgan snickered. “I thought Abi was going to have a heart attack.”
Jae-ha started laughing at that one. “Oh my, I so could see myself doing that to Yona dear. And I guess I couldn’t be a damsel in distress.”
“You got a little carried away and nicked me once with it, you wouldn’t stop apologizing over it.” Morgan shrugged, unconsciously rubbing at her shoulder.
Jae-ha frowned for a moment. “Oh I’m sorry dear, I’m sure I didn’t mean-“ he was cut off as Morgan placed a finger over his lips.
“I literally had a lifetime of you apologizing so don’t start.” She rolled her eyes.
The former Green Dragon smirked. “Mmmm I must have been cute apologizing for it.”
That made Morgan laugh. “You were adorable. Hiryuu couldn’t ever stay mad or frustrated at you.”
“The little miss still can’t get mad at her husband for long, even when he does stupid things.” Zeno said in passing, coming into the room of the inn they were staying in. “But then Hiryuu didn’t even get mad that time the queen and Shu-ten broke his crown.”
“Wait what?” Jae-ha snorted. “You gotta tell me this Zeno!”
Morgan groaned. “You stole all of Shu-ten’s beer and he decided to use the crown like a flipping frisbee throwing it at you.”
Lina giggled. “Uncle Zeno said before Ryokuryuu loooove to drink a lot!”
“Wasn’t my fault he didn’t hide it well.” Morgan shrugged. “But he totally thought I helped you find it with magic when really anyone could have found that easily it was a bad hiding spot.”
“Well he should have hidden it from his lovely sister better.” Jae-ha hummed, then stopped brushing at Morgan’s hair for a moment to think about what he just said when he saw the look on Zeno’s face. “Please don’t tell me I said that to him.”
The Ouryuu nodded. “You did and Shu-ten tried to hit you as you ran off with Lady Zoe.”
Morgan smiled at the memory. “Hm, he was always leaving someone on the roof of the castle. He had such a bad attitude.”
“Zeno seems to recall you two didn’t help.” Zeno replied rather deadpan.
“Jin-ae only got worse because he kept calling Hiryuu a dumbass and she didn’t like that.” Morgan shrugged.
“Well of course I wouldn't just stand by with a brother calling my lovely husband an idiot.” Jae-ha chuckled. “I imagine he only got away with that being a dragon and the queen's brother?”
Morgan nodded. “Hiryuu was pretty easygoing anyway. Forgave people easily and understood they made mistakes. About that time was when a lot of unrest and distrust for mages started surfacing. He really drew people to him and having a mage like me in his court and serving beside him, well. That eased tensions a little…. Until I answered that damn letter…” she looked down, suddenly going silent.
“Auntie….?” Lina looked up at her worried, the little girl had gotten so attached to the mage since she saved Jae-ha so Lina had come to start calling her auntie lately.
Jae-ha twisted his mouth, Morgan didn’t like to talk much about her darker parts of her past and he didn’t press… After all he was similar in that sense so the group didn’t press her or ask too many questions how or why she lost her core when they met, just that Yona insisted they help her find it especially after Morgan saved Jae-ha’s life. That’s why they were traveling to Awa to take a ship out to Morgan’s home country in hopes of finding said orb. He did know from Zeno there was a mage war after Hiryuu’s time and that Morgan could have been part of that, but the Yellow Dragon didn’t know all the details. “Well that’s all in the past, all we can do is move forward yes?” he hummed, still combing through her hair. “Now stay still as I make my finishing touches please.”
Morgan sighed, clutching Lina a bit tight now as she did stay still and stopped fidgeting as he continued to work on her. Jae-ha hummed a tune as he finished her hair, putting a clip in to hold it in place and stepping back to admire his handiwork. “I didn’t stay stiff as a board dear, really you didn’t have to take it to heart.” He chuckled. “All done, you can let Lina go now.”
Morgan just gave him a weak smile. “Just playing.” She released the little Ryokuryuu, petting her on the head. “So how do I look? Ridiculous right?”
Jae-ha snorted. “Whatever makes you say that?”
“Because as Jin-ae that’s exactly what you’d do, luckily you don’t have access to poofy dresses or else I’d be poured into one.” Morgan rolled her eyes.
“You could teach me how to get one here with magic.” Jae-ha hummed, his mischievous grin showing.
“Nope, I am so saving that lesson until I have to show you.” Morgan snickered, getting up onto her feet. “Because otherwise who knows what you’ll teleport to your side.”
“Oh? Maybe I’ll just tickle your mark until you scream.” Jae-ha grinned, brushing her hair to the side and focusing his hand right on that curse mark of hers, concentrating a tickle spell there that made her yelp, teleporting behind Lina and holding onto the little Ryokuryuu.
“Lina protect me from your daddy!” Morgan whined, still giggling from the tickle spell. She shook her head, laughing also at the fact Jae-ha used that old threat that Jin-ae used constantly when she wanted something or was trying to make Morgan sleep.
Lina giggled as she was held by the mage. “I’ll protect you auntie! I’m a dragon warrior after all!”
Jae-ha laughed. “Oohhh really? Look treasure! Grandma Yoon has rice balls!” he pointed off in a random direction.
“Oh? Zeno’s hungry!” Zeno looked up immediately.
“Silly daddy I won’t fall for that!” Lina stuck her tongue out at him.
Morgan’s stomach though growled reminding her she was reminded she hadn’t eaten in several days. “Maybe we should go check anyway huh Lina? We can go together.”
Yona right then had come running up. “Are you guys done? Lunch is ready!”
“Ooohhh just in time my darling.” Jae-ha hummed, picking up his wife and twirling around with her before laying a kiss on her lips. He had gotten twice as affectionate with Yona if that was even possible after getting new life in him. Thanking everyday for more time with his family since Morgan came into their lives. “Mmm maybe I should give you a makeover next as we plan the next baby…” he hummed as he put her down, rubbing her stomach that only had a small bump as of now.
“Later.” Yona bopped his nose before pulling away to come over to Morgan. “Sorry if he got carried away.”
“It’s ok, no worse than how he was as Jin-ae.” Morgan chuckled.
“Mommy I found this pretty flower out here in the woods earlier!” Lina cheered, holding up a snapdragon flower and smiled wide. “Auntie said this flower you used to call daddy back when you were Hiryuu!”
“Oh? Yona giggled. “That looks like a dragon flower, isn’t it?”
“Antirrhinum.” Morgan answered with a nod. “Lord Hiryuu had a thing with giving people nicknames after flowers. Mine was Amaryllis.”
“Such a beautiful nickname, you should use it sometime, princess of my heart.” Jae-ha purred into Yona’s ear from behind, sending a shudder through her body as she blushed.
“My memories are jumbled enough as it is.” Morgan made a face. “God you two are so like Jin and Hiryuu it’s scary, I mean it makes sense but seriously.”
“Well then maybe I should start calling you mom then!” Jae-ha purred, offering a hand to Morgan as they were heading back to their campfire. “Since you did adopt me in that past life you said.”
Morgan snorted. “You only called me mother whenever you wanted something or when you were in trouble.”
“More reason to make up for it!” Jae-ha hummed. “Besides I welcome it, never got the chance to call anyone that before.”
That made Morgan wilt, she had some idea about Jae-ha’s past but hearing about it made her heart ache. “… If you want to, just don’t be surprised if I start calling you Jin-ae then, sexy trouble.”
Jae-ha winked at her. “I more than welcome it, maybe we can get into some trouble together~”

Gendrya S8E1 - SPOILERS!
Right, nobody asked for this but I have so many thoughts and this ship tag is absolute chaos right now but I am living for it, you guys are amazing and I love you all :)
(p.s. I do 3rd year Media Production and Scriptwriting at University so a lot of this post will probably be quite detailed, riddled with tangents and personal interpretations.)
The opening scene of everyone arriving at Winter Town and the damn Baratheon theme (”King’s Arrival” @ 4:10 or at least a variant of it but it’s still hella recognisable) playing to mirror Robert’s arrival to Winterfell in S1. In terms of composition, I love that when Arya recognises Gendry, the higher melody shines through and it cuts back to Arya smiling. To me, it shows that all of the people she cares about are here, even the ones she didn’t ever expect to see again. They are all finally home with her. I love how Arya sees the little boy running through the crowd, you can clearly see her thinking about when she was a child and did the same when Robert Baratheon arrived. (a.k.a. future dad in-law)
There’s so much mirroring in this scene I swear. 1)When Arya and Gendry first met, it was Gendry stepping up to defend Arya against HotPie and Lommy. Now it’s Arya stepping up against the damn Hound to defend Gendry. 2) The Hound’s “cripples and cock-suckers, which one are you?” line mirroring S2:
G:”rapers, pickpockets, highwaymen
A:”Which are you?”
G:”Armourers apprentice”
3) This is more of a book mirror and not even sure if it’s intentional but I’m going for it anyway. I can’t remember for the life of me which page it is but in A Storm of Swords, Gendry says “she’s my sister, leave her be.” in reference to Arya. I this scene, Arya’s first words are “Leave him be” in reference to Gendry.
When The Hound and Gendry first see Arya stood there, Gendry legit does a look-up-and-down of her and you can see the deep breath he takes in his shoulder movement, which is big props on Joe’s part considering how many layers those guys are wearing. Also after The Hound walks away and the frame refocuses on Gendry walking up to Arya over her shoulder, you can see a slight smile start on Gendry’s face which I just find freaking adorable.
(They haven’t even said anything to eachother yet and I’m already on a roll, I did warn you)
A:“That was a nice axe you made for him, you’ve gotten better.”
OH GODS this line threw me right back to Harrenhal with lil’ Arya sat in the forge telling him to stand side-face while a shirtless Genny boy swings round that sword like it’s his job.
G:“Yeah thanks, so have you...I mean you look...good.”
A:”Thanks, so do you.”
You can see the cogs turning in his head. She’s alive and she’s here and she’s grown glowed tf up but she’s still Arya and gods she’s actually here after all these years. I can definitely see the underlying subtext here being ‘it’s really good to see you again and I’m glad you’re here’ and they’re both agreeing without having to spell it out. I feel having Gendry back is already bringing a part of Arya back to herself, we haven’t seen her smile or be so at ease with another character like this for a long time. Granted the others are obviously Jon and Ned, most recently Sansa and Bran. But here’s the thing, they are all her family, her pack. And what’s the most famous line she says to him thus far? “I can be your family.”
G: “It’s not a bad place to grow up if it wasn’t so cold”
A: “Stay close to that forge then”
Referencing back to all those times she told him about her home, the place she grew up in and the place she loves. They’re both reminiscing, playful and lighthearted, enjoying being in each other's company again. Also Arya following Gendry round to the table and standing that close.
G: “Oh is that a command, Lady Stark?”
A: “Don’t call me that.”
G: “As you wish mi’lady”
I don’t need to tell you guys this, we all know it, but this moment is massive. I can guarantee you in the copies of this script that the crew had on set, this moment would have been circled in red sharpie. Directly calling back to the biggest secret they had between them all those years ago, the thing that Arya trusted Gendry and only Gendry with, something only between them that became such an important aspect of their relationship (as well as a cute nickname obviously). But the thing is, the last time Arya heard this, he was saying “you wouldn’t be my family, you’d be mi’lady” and then he was taken. Yet here he is, in the castle that seats her family calling her that same name, which is what I think is running through her mind in that pause. Because after everything that has happened since then, here they both are in Winterfell, both grown up now after 6 years and both been through a lot of shit, but of course he would still call her that with that stupid smile on his face, because he knows exactly what he’s doing. So she has to smile. Also even though she hated the nickname as a kid, I think she sees the endearment in it now that they are both older, and she likes it which is why she giggles (so cute omg).
A: “Here’s my wish...can you make it?”
G: “What do you need something like this for?”
A: “Can you make it or not?”
G: ”You already have a sword, what’s that?”
HERE’S MY WISH and the assassin hands the blacksmith plans for a weapon she wants him to make for her, I mean can you get any more obvious. They could have chosen any other combination of words but they went with ‘Here’s my wish’. It’s a bit of a strange choice of words in my opinion so I think we might get a call back to a wish in future episodes, maybe when Gendry finishes it there will be a ‘I granted your wish’ moment and that would be setting up a more romantic/intimate scene between them. Maybe I’m reading into it too much but from a writing point of view, it’s just a very specific and deliberate choice of words. The weapon is clearly the ‘spear’ thing she uses in the trailer which makes sense with how she trained with a wooden pole in the House of Black and White (any TWD fans out there; Morgan would be proud of our girl).
A:*completely unnecessary fancy twirling of dagger when handing it to Gendry*
G: “It’s Valyrian steel...I always knew you were just another rich girl”
Arya can’t resist showing off her skills just a lil bit and I don’t blame her, you go girl. I love this sequence because it also mirrors when these two first meet. Gendry picks up Needle after the two have warded off HotPie and Lommy and says “This is castle-forged steel, where’d you steal it?” I looove the exact opposition here, it’s just so satisfying from a writing perspective. Clearly referencing when they first met and the fact that he figured out she was a girl by that smile that Gendry has on his face as he looks her dead in the eyes, almost challenging her to step up. THE LOOK she gives him says ‘oh you’re really going there’ (honestly it’s the exact look I give to my crush irl when he says something like Gen did) It’s clear flirting but under the guise of their inside joke, safe flirting, just testing the waters (no more rowing though) and enjoying having eachother there.
A: “You don’t know any other rich girls.”
Her tone of voice is   t e a s i n g    and she knows she has him and has upped the flirting stakes. You can tell he’s dumbstruck and just watches her walk with a practically unhinged jaw and his facial expression spelling out both ‘shit I just got schooled’ and ‘damn I’m in love’ at the same time. Arya’s look back and smirk is amazing, clearly making sure that Gendry is watching her and knows she got the better of him, after all those years of teasing her with mi’lady and being taller than her, she finally has one up on him.
AND THERE WE GO! Thank you so much if you read the whole thing, I know it was a hefty one but I love doing stuff like this; reading into scenes, characters and plot lines of Movies and TV shows I love. If you guys like this kind of thing I’d be more than happy to do one for each new episode of S8 as they come out. Just let me know, I don’t bite I promise! :) Have a brilliant day all you lovely humans!

WWF Survivor Series 1996 PPV Review
It’s that time of year! Get out your Thanksgiving leftovers, cause it’s time for the second longest and most boring special match type of the year (in my opinion, don’t hate me). The big match on this card for me is Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Bret “The Hitman” Hart, a prequel to their legendary double turn match at WrestleMania 13. Let’s get watching and let’s get reviewing!
Tumblr media
Date: 11.17.1996 / Venue: Madison Square Garden - New York, NY / Attendance: 18647 / Tagline: Back To Attack
Survivor Series Elimination Match Henry Godwinn & Phineas Godwinn “The Godwinns” w/ Hillbilly Jim, Doug Furnas, and Phillip LaFon def. Leif Cassidy & Marty Jannetty “The New Rockers”, Owen Hart & The British Bulldog w/ Clarence Mason in (20:41)
The level of talent in this match is so wildly inconsistent it’s hilarious
“Phineas is gonna attempt a suplex! How stupid is that!” Good point JR
Henry Godwinn eliminates Jannetty with the “Slop Drop”, Owen Hart eliminates Henry with a spinning back kick, Bulldog then eliminates Phineas Godwinn. Good that we got the Godwinns out jesus christ
Furnas hits a vicious powerslam on Cassidy
Owen Hart with a very high dropkick
The heels are working over Doug Furnas in the corner
Bulldog hits the delayed vertical suplex on Furnas and then flips just to showboat
Vicious gutbuster onto Furnas, JR calls it a “Suzanne Somers” gutbuster lol
LaFon eliminates Cassidy
Owen Hart’s belly to belly suplexes are a thing of beauty
LaFon pins Bulldog, who retaliates with an illegal chop block

Bret “The Hitman” Hart pins Stone Cold Steve Austin in (28:36)
Holy fucking shit. The prequel to Austin v. Hart at WM13. I’m so excited to watch this, and even more excited to see Austin v. Hart II.
The Hitman versus The Rattlesnake. Let’s fucking go.
There’s this look on Austin’s face as he sizes up Bret, before the jabbering and the bantering. Begrudging respect gives way to anger and a burning desire to win.
Austin working over Hart’s arm in the middle of the ring, but his knowledge of holds and human body geometry allows him to escape and put Austin into a disadvantageous position
Hart driving knees into Austin’s back
Amazing drop toe hold by Austin as Hart bounces off the ropes, but then Hart turns it into an amazing hold on Stone Cold
Austin throws Bret into the ropes, and then works him over with falling elbows and stomps
Stone Cold is continually targeting Hart’s neck and lungs
Hart and Austin trading intense blows
Reversal irish whip into a clothesline into an inverted atomic drop by Hart

Austin is planted face first into the steel guard rail
Stone Cold rolls all the way out of the ring when he gets put back in lol
Austin catapults Hart into the Spanish desk and they get into a messy brawl on that table
JR sagely observes: “It seems like it always happens to the Spanish guys!”
Austin drops an elbow onto Hart from the apron
Vertical suplex on Hart by Austin OVER THE ROPES, DAMN
A slugfest in the middle of the ring as Hart gives it his all, holy shit
Backbreaker on Austin
Hart goes up to the top rope, and Austin goes up to the top too AND HITS A TOP ROPE SUPLEX HOLY SHIT
Bret attempts to get a sneaky pin but fails
Stone Cold Stunner buys him a two count but no more!
Austin pummeling away at Hart but hart will not give in!!!
Submission applied by Austin, but Hart manages to crawl to the ropes for a break
Bret Hart is IRISH WHIPPED INTO THE FUCKING RING POST, SLIDING INTO IT ON HIS SIDE OUCH
But Hart kicks out, again. Incredible.
HART TURNS THE BOW AND ARROW SUBMISSION INTO A SHARPSHOOTER--NO, HE PUMMELS AWAY AT AUSTIN’S FACE INSTEAD!
Just a mindblowing finish as Hart, in the middle of a sleeper hold from Austin, kicks off the second turnbuckle and backflips both himself and Austin into a pin. The Hitman wins. What a match, an absolute classic.
My Rating [4.5*] / Daddy Meltzer’s Rating [4.5*]
Survivor Series Elimination Match Farooq, Razor Ramon II, Diesel II & Vader (DDQ) Yokozuna, Savio Vega, Flash Funk, & Jimmy Snuka in (09:48)
Hell yes, Cornette is on commentary. Even if this match sucks I’m going to enjoy it.
JR takes a shot at Hulk Hogan -- “I’ve never seen red and yellow look so good in the Garden” (re: Flash’s outfit)
“You couldn’t manage a Wendy’s!” shouts Cornette at JR. “I could if you lived in town,” retorts JR 😂
Diesel II hits a brutal clothesline on Flash Funk
Diesel II eliminates Savio Vega
Snuka eliminates Razor Ramon II and then a bunch of chairs are brought into the ring and an all out brawl breaks out, leading to...a double DQ. Ok, um...what?
My Rating [.5*] / Daddy Meltzer’s Rating [1*]
WWF Heavyweight Title Match Sycho Sid pins Shawn Michaels [c] w/ Jose Lothario in (20:02)
I’m not really sure if I find Michaels hot or I just am really buying into the character and the screams of the audience.
Bret Hart gets the winner of this match for a title shpt, which, knowing about the Michaels/Hart timeline, implies that Sid’s going to win this. but we’ll see
things we know about Michaels coming into this match
he thinks he’s cute
he knows he’s sexy
he’s got the looks that drive the girls wild
he’s got the moves that really move ‘em
he sends chills up and down their spines
big punch from Sid to Michaels in the corner
awesome baseball slide between Sid’s legs into a dropkick from Michaels
chop block by Michaels on Sid and, surprisingly to me, he gets booed!
Michaels uses the ropes to get up high and drop down on Sid’s leg
Michaels in the corner, Sid “sprints” at him and comes in so goddamn slowly it’s hilarious
throughout the match Michaels is working on Sid’s left leg and knee, and continues to get heat from the crowd for doing so
Michaels clotheslined over the top
RIDICULOUS rotation on a back body drop by Sid
backbreaker by Sid gets a two count
huge punch to HBK who is out on his feet in the middle of the ring (in kayfabe)
BUT MICHAELS FIGHTS BACK!
MICHAELS JUMPS UP INTO THE AIR FOR A DOUBLE AXE HANDLE BUT SID PUTS UP HIS FOOT AND MICHAELS BOUNCES OFF, GOING VERTICAL STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR WHILE ON HIS HEAD FOR A BIT LMAO
Michaels kicks out back to back times
Sid catches the Sweet Chin Music and reverses it into a one armed chokeslam
Sid sets up the powerbomb, but Michaels reverses it into a small package pin attempt
Michaels kips up but gets immediately clotheslined by Sid
Sid grabs the camera and hits Jose with it, and the ref CLEARLY SEES IT AND DOES NOT DQ HIM IMMEDIATELY WHAT THE FUCK
Michaels goes out to attend to Lothario, but Sid throws him back into the ring
Michaels bumps the ref, which means...here we go
Sid smashes the camera onto his back
Sid hits the powerbomb. 1-2-3. Even with a slow count from Hebner, Sid gets it. I have to say, I don’t usually like Sycho Sid, but this was a decent match.
My Rating [2.75*] / Daddy Meltzer’s Rating [3.75*]
Overall PPV Rating: B
A decent show with only one bad match. I do have to say there’s one too many Survivor Series matches on this show, and it ended in a DQ anyways--so what was the point? Sycho Sid vs. Shawn Michaels was decent and a believable way for Shawn to drop the belt, and Hart vs. Austin was a fucking KAH-LASSIC that gets me even more hyped for their incoming WM13 showdown.

You can run away with me anytime you want
A03: Here!
Story Rating: T
Pairing: Amedot, mentioned jaspearl
Summary: A new neighbor moves in, Amethyst falls over a fence, stars are gazed at, makeouts are had, and everything turns out alright. Overall, it's a pretty good summer.
Tags: Human AU
When the new neighbors moved in, Amethyst couldn’t help but notice her.
Well, she’d noticed the dog first. Cute lil’ orange pup, tail wagging and tongue out. That dog had brought a grin to her face the moment she saw it rounding the corner with a zucchini, or maybe a cucumber in its mouth, running up to her and depositing it at Amethyst's feet like some grand prize. Amethyst had laughed out loud, picking up the (definitely) zucchini and giving the pup a hearty pat on the head.
Then she’d charged around the corner, huffing as she ran.
“Pumpkin!” The girl yelled, skidding to a stop on bare feet. “Don’t just run off like that, silly dog--” She looked up, and she and Amethyst locked eyes. “Oh! Hi, I’m sorry, I’m Peridot, I think we’re neighbors…?” Oh no. Oh no.
She was so cute!
Peridot kneeled down to gather up the dog, which was good because Amethyst needed some time to restart her brain. Peridot was wearing these adorable watermelon-patterned shorts, and christ her thighs--! Amethyst kept her eyes on Peridot’s face, which was at least somewhat more acceptable to stare at. The round glasses were a cute look on her.
“Yeah, yeah-- you guys just moved in, right? I saw the trucks last week. I think I met your… sister…?” Amethyst trailed off, not sure who the growly girl with the eyepatch had actually been.
Peridot made a face and stuck out her tongue.
“I apologize for whatever Sarah said or did. It’s nice to meet you, uhm--”
“Amethyst! Sorry I didn’t introduce myself earlier.”
Peridot smiled, a little crookedly.
“Well, it’ nice to meet you. I’ll see you around! You can keep the zucchini. You should probably wash it, though.” Peridot added, standing up. Pumpkin licked her hand, and Peridot smiled fondly down at the dog.
“Yeah,” Amethyst said, “See you around.”
“Jaaaaasppeeeeerr,” Amethyst whined, “the new neighbor is hot!”
“Didn’t know you liked eyepatches.” Jasper deadpanned, her eyes on her book. Amethyst hadn’t even known that people actually read those stupid cold war spy books until she’d moved in with her estranged sister.
“No,” Amethyst said, rolling her eyes, “she has a hot sister! And a cute dog!”
“Is that where that spaniel lives? Nice dog. Gave me a zucchini.”
“Me too, actually. Anyways, this is a crisis! ” Amethyst declared gravely.
“How so?” Jasper asked, flipping a page in her book.
“‘Cause I wanna bone her! And I’m gonna see her, like, every day ‘til school starts again! How is this not a crisis!”
“You are nineteen years old. I’m sure you can muster up the will to ask her on a date.” Jasper said plainly.
Amethyst plopped down on the couch.
“Jasper, I feel like you aren’t taking my girl emergency seriously.”
“What gives you that impression.” Jasper said, raising an eyebrow. Amethyst gently kicked her. Jasper rolled her eyes.
“Just go talk to her tomorrow. I can usually hear that dog out there, she’s probably there with ‘em.”
“So, what, I should go creep on her over the fence?” Amethyst asked.
“Make conversation with her about her weird vegetable bearing dog or something and let me read my book in peace.”
Amethyst made a hmmph noise, but found herself smiling anyways.
“Maybe I will. You want anything from the fridge?” She called as she got up. It was too damn hot, and needed a soda. Maybe a popsicle.
Jasper shook her head, and Amethyst left her sister in peace.
A couple days later, Amethyst was considering the best way to blow up an old toilet she had found without getting the cops called  or bringing down Jasper’s wrath upon her. Firecrackers obviously wouldn’t be strong enough, but she might actually burn down her house if she tried to stuff the thing full of actual fireworks. Maybe Bismuth would help her haul it to a field later?
Oh, hey, there was that dog again, barking up a storm. Jasper’s advice floated through her head, and, throwing caution to the wind, Amethyst hauled herself up onto one of the lower horizontal beams of the fence, so that she was hanging halfway over the top. Pumpkin ran to greet her, and Amethyst dangled one arm down for the dog to sniff.
Then she looked up and. Peridot was gardening, kneeled down in the dirt and tugging up small plants with a spade.
In a bikini.
Fuck.
She glanced up as Pumpkin stopped barking, and Amethyst felt her whole face heat up.
“Hey,” She said, as if she wasn’t staring at her over a fence. “I heard your dog.”
Peridot laughed and stood up, brushing dirt off of her knees. Amethyst made a valiant effort at not starting. Peridot walked over and crouched to pet Pumpkin, who sat down and panted happily.
“Yeah, he hates it when I weed the garden. I think he’s scared of the hand spade. Why is that?” She directed the last bit at the dog as she scratched behind his ears.
“Watcha growin’?” Amethyst asked, considering whether leaning down to pat the dog more would make her overbalance.
“Y’know, corn, tomatoes, greenbeans.” Peridot shrugged. Amethyst glanced back at the garden patch.
“And zucchini?” She asked. Peridot’s eyebrows furrowed.
“Yeah, there’s some zucchini growing. I didn’t plant it, I think some must have just gotten left over from the last owners. It’s sort of a pain, but no use wasting a plant, I always say!” She gave a nasal little laugh that shouldn’t have made Amethyst blush.
“Is it just you that takes care of the garden?” Amethyst asked, trying to not make a total ass of herself.
“Yeah, my sister doesn't like gardening. She’ll probably tear it up once I go back to school.”
Amethyst’s ears perked up at that.
“Oh, where do you go?”
“I go to Empire U, for agricultural studies. Why, do you go to school around here?” Peridot asked, tilting her head a bit.
“I go to Beach City College,” she replied, trying and failing to shrug casually while hanging over the side of a fence. Pumpkin yipped, and Amethyst leaned down a bit more to pet him--
And promptly flipped herself over the fence, tumbling down onto her back and narrowly avoiding squishing both Pumpkin and Peridot.
“Oh--! Shit, are you okay!?” Peridot yelled from where she was now sitting, having stumbled back in the chaos. She scooted over to kneel at Amethyst’s side.
Amethyst groaned and sat up. She looked at Peridot, then to the fascinatingly oblivious pumpkin, then back at Peridot.
She started to giggle, and Peridot laughed with her.
They had chatted for a long while after that.
Peridot and her sister were from a farm town in Illinois, but Peridot’s sister had just gotten a job in Beach City, and it was closer to Peridot’s school anyways. Pumpkin was indeed a spaniel, a gift from Peridot’s ex.
Amethyst had boggled at that-- who got their girlfriend a dog when they didn’t even live together? Peridot had gotten very quiet at that, so Amethyst had changed the subject.
Eventually, the sun started to dip and Peridot’s sister poked her head out the door to tell them to quiet down. Amethyst had climbed back over the fence, promising to see Peridot another day.
That brought them to today, standing in a field. Jasper had vehemently vetoed the toilet, so Amethyst decided on an old-furniture bonfire instead. Bismuth had indeed given a lift and an old cabinet, which Amethyst had demolished with an axe hours beforehand.
“Are you sure this is safe?” Peridot asked, clad in a tank top and shorts, standing a healthy distance away from the pile of splintered wood.
“I do this all the time! Old furniture goes up really well. I remember when we chopped up an old playset, that thing went up like dry newspaper!” Amethyst exclaimed as she piled rocks in a ring along the intended fire pit. “Bis said there wasn’t any varnish or anything on it, so we probably won’t get cancer.”
“What do you mean, probably? ”
Amethyst grinned and exaggeratedly rolled her eyes.
“Aw, c’mon. A little cancer never hurt anybody! You’re out in the sun all day anyways, you’re pretty much bound to get it.”
Peridot pouted and crossed her arms.
“It’s too hot to wear clothes while I garden. I’m just being sensible.”
Amethyst bit back a comment about being too hot -- she wasn’t sure if they were, y’know. There yet. But hey, now they were here! Alone, with a (semi) romantic fire. Amethyst had even brought marshmallows. She shoved the last rock into place and stood up, brushing dirt and grit off of her hands. The sun was just starting to set, now. She trotted to the car to fetch the lighter, the kindling, and of course the snacks.
“Do you burn a lot of stuff out here?” Peridot called.
“Nah, usually if I have a bonfire I’ll go to the beach. It’s supposed to be super crowded there tonight though, so I figured we could just use this field.” Really, Bismuth had gently suggested that they use the field in a sort of, don’t you get me in trouble for contributing to your pyromania by setting the beach on fire way. Amethyst was happy to comply.
“Is the beach busy a lot? I haven’t been.”
“It depends on the day and where on the beach. I know some pretty good spots.” Amethyst carefully didn’t mention how many of those spots were technically private property. It wasn’t like Rose and Greg cared anyways, unless they were doing something stupid, like burning massive amounts of shit.
“Can you take me sometime?” Peridot asked, and Amethyst hesitated in stuffing the kindling beneath the woodpile.
“That, uh, sort of sounds like a date, Per.” She laughed nervously, busying herself with the soon-to-be fire.
Peridot was quiet for a long moment. Shit. She’d been pretty sure Peridot was gay. In fact, she was already considering filing an official complaint, because she was pretty sure that it was illegal to wear a flannel like a crop top if you were straight, and Peridot had definitely done that (Amethyst hadn’t ogled her, no siree).
“I, uhm, thought this was a date?” Peridot squeaked, and Amethyst’s heart stopped for at least the third time that evening.
“Oh. Uh.” Amethyst started dumbly at her hands, still holding old newspapers. “Well, uhm, it is now? Is that…?”
“Is that a thing you’d be interested in?” Peridot ventured, “Like. Dating…?”
Holy shit yes , Amethyst’s mind screamed. Somehow, she managed to barely keep her composure.
“Yeah, man. Dating. That sounds pretty fantastic actually.” She said, like someone who didn’t have fireworks going off inside her brain. She crammed another handful of paper into the ple, and clicked the trigger of the fireplace lighter experimentally.
She’d been right, the pile of furniture went up beautifully. She scooted back a few feet, and Peridot sat down beside her.
“That went better than I thought it would,” said Peridot. Amethyst wondered what she was referring to.
As promised, the second date was on the beach. That had played and splashed in the water all day, but as the sun started to set they found themselves sitting on a dock, feet dangling in the water and hands inches away from each other’s.
“I should have brought Pumpkin,” Peridot mused, and Amethyst laughed at the mental image.
“He’d be tracking sand around your house for days, man! All that fur.”
“I’d wash him off with the hose! He likes playing with the hose.”
“I can’t even get all the sand out of my fur, and I have thumbs to operate a shower with. He’d give your sister an aneurysm.” She shook her head wildly for emphasis, and Peridot laughed and shielded herself as salt and sand sprayed from Amethyst’s thick bleached hair.
“Alright, alright, point taken, stop spraying me! Jerk,” She said, with no true malice.
Amethyst pouted anyways.
“I’m just trying to save your dog from a sandy fate!” She declared, voice full of mock offense, “And your house. It’s awful, trying to get all the sand out of the shower afterwards.”
“That’s why I keep my hair short. Less sand vectors.”
Amethyst giggled, and Peridot blushed and grinned.
“Vectors, huh? You’re such a stem major.” Amethyst laughed, gently bumping her with her shoulder. Peridot looked down at her lap. Amethyst looked at the profile of Peridot’s face, drinking in the upturn of her nose and the way her eyelashes looked in the sunset.
“Are you worried about when we go back to school?” Peridot asked, and Amethyst tilted her head.
“Are you?” Amethyst asked in return, already knowing the answer.
“I don’t know, maybe?” Peridot said, brushing at some sand that was stuck to her thigh. “I mean, I know we aren’t super serious yet or anything, but…”
Amethyst kept her eyes on Peridot, silently encouraging her to go on.
“I don’t know, I mean, you’re really cool and I haven’t dated-- wanted to date someone else in, well, a while, and I just, I just don’t want it to end yet?” Peridot hugged her legs to her chest, resting her chin on her knees.
“I mean,” Amethyst began, faltering a bit, “I think you’re really cool too? And I think you’re cute and I want to get to know you, I mean, it’s not even July . We have time to think about this. I dunno, I usually play this sort of stuff by ear, but maybe, maybe we just see where this goes? Figure out August stuff in August, y’know? Is that… Okay?”
Peridot let her feet dangle over the side of the dock again, but she was still sort of… hunched? Small looking.
Amethyst called out, “Hey.”
Peridot looked over, and Amethyst leaned forward to kiss her.
It was really nice.
The fourth of July was, predictably, also spent on the beach. This time, Amethyst was actually allowed to be on the little stretch of beach that Rose and Greg actually owned, and Peridot had only sort of side eyed her when Greg let them through the gate Amethyst had bypassed last time.
Peridot had been almost uncharacteristically shy around all the others, sticking close to Amethyst's side as they wandered from the volleyball net to the grill to the fire pit. Amethyst just held her hand and attempted to be loud enough for the both of them (and handily succeeded).
Peridot warmed up quickly, though-- Pearl mentioned transport phenomena or some other nebulous concept and Peridot jumped on it like a drowning man on a liferaft, sparking up conversation about molecular transport and scaling and Amethyst wandered off somewhere in the middle for another hotdog, but Peridot and Pearl both seemed to be having fun. Well. ‘Fun.’
Garnet gave her a inscrutable thumbs up, and Amethyst piled more mustard and relish onto her hot dog.
And then it was ten minutes ‘til the fireworks went off, and there was some kind of goddamned conspiracy going on here, because somehow Peridot and Amethyst were the only two on the cliff by the lighthouse, waiting for the show. Usually the joint was packed (well, if you could call the Cool Kids and that anime kid a full crowd). Bismuth and Rose had both suggested that they head up and wait for the rest of the group to catch up, Amethyst was calling shenanigans.
And yet. Somehow the universe had afforded them privacy this Independence day, so Amethyst was ready to declare this the good sort of shenanigans, and that she had a good group of friends, even if their ages did widely differ. Maybe they just wanted her to mack on someone her own age, who knows.
What mattered right now was that Peridot was sort of leaning her head on Amethyst’s shoulder, and she smelled like sunscreen and bonfire smoke, and Amethyst doubted she smelled much better.
Amethyst’s hand found Peridot’s, and they tangled loosely together.
“You sure can’t see many stars around here,” Peridot murmured.
“”S what the fireworks are for,” Amethyst replied, “were there a lot of stars where you lived?”
“No,” Peridot said, “But you could drive a couple hours to where the stars were. It was amazing-- there were so many, you couldn’t see anywhere to fit even one more in.” She sighed longingly.
“I’d love to show it to you,” Peridot whispered, “You’ve shown me so many of, of your places, and it’s only been a month. I want to show the stuff that’s special to me.”
Amethyst squeezed her hand, unsure how to reply. Peridot scooted impossibly closer, nudging her head into the crook of Amethyst’s neck.
“I really, really like you,” Peridot whispered, and Amethyst kissed her temple.
“I really, really like you too.”
Peridot tilted her head up and kissed Amethyst’s nose, and Amethyst grinned widely.
She’d’ve probably appreciated the fireworks more if Peridot’s tongue hadn’t been in her mouth, but hey, who was she to complain?
The summer flew by after that-- spent in days splashing at the beach, hanging out in each others back yards, sometimes to help Amethyst wreck some shit, sometimes to play with Pumpkin sometimes to help Peridot garden.
There were trips to Funland and the boardwalk, nights spent by bonfires, and even a day where Peridot sheepishly turned up at Amethyst’s door with an armful of zucchini. They’d made enough zucchini bread to feed an army, and Amethyst had laughed when Pumpkin turned up at the door with yet another of the vegetables, just like the day they met.
But, all good things had to end, summer especially. Peridot and Amethyst sat on Amethyst’s back porch, eating popsicles and looking up into the sunset sky.
Peridot rested her head on Amethyst’s shoulder, and Amethyst slurped her popsicle directly in Peridot’s ear. Peridot half-heartedly elbowed her in the ribcage. Amethyst gave Peridot a sticky, grape flavored kiss.
“I did the math,” Peridot said. “It’s a five hour trip each way.”
“Fuck that.” Amethyst snorted. “That sucks, man.”
Peridot gave her popsicle a mournful lick, turning so that she didn’t dribble on Amethyst.
“We’ve still got discord! And, y’know, our phones.” Amethyst said, trying to offer some sort of comfort.
“I know,” Peridot mumbled, “I just, I get worried about long distance stuff, what if you find someone else--”
“Peri. You have met, like, all of my friends, and no one's gonna transfer to Beach City of all places. Who am I gonna hook up with? They’re all, like thirty-five and I’m pretty sure Jasper is banging Pearl already anyways. Besides you’re-- you’re unforgettable, man! Irreplaceable. Irrperiplacebale? No, wait--”
Peridot giggled, and Amethyst grinned.
“Dork,” Peridot said around a mouthful of blue raspberry.
“Your dork.” Amethyst said, pleased with herself.
They sat in companionable silence for a few minutes, bathed in orange-gold.
“You really think Pearl’s fucking Jasper?” Peridot asked quizzically, and Amethyst gave an exaggerated shudder.
“I try not to think about it, dude.” At least Jasper seemed happier nowadays. It wasn't her business, she supposed.
Amethyst slid the last of her popsicle off of its stick and into her mouth, sucking on the ice.
“You packed yet?” She asked, and Peridot nodded.
“Sarah can’t wait to get me out of the house, I think. I still have to pack my clothes, but all my room stuff is packed.”
“Sarah is gonna lead a reign of terror over this neighborhood, isn’t she?”
“You’ll have to strike her down.” Peridot sighed dramatically.
Amethyst snorted, and Peridot finished off her popsicle, twiddling absentmindedly with the stick.
“You hear from your roommate yet?”
“Some psych major,” Peridot said, “She seems nice. Said she’s gonna bring a lot of books. Wanna hear my popsicle joke?”
“Hell yeah, I do.”
“What’s the best side of a house to put the porch on?”
“Fuck. The sunny side?”
Peridot giggled.
“No, the outside!”
“Pffft, is that really what it says?” Amethyst asked, playfully grabbing for the stick.
“Yeah! It’s one of the better ones I’ve heard, actually.”
“That’s why I don’t believe you.” Amethyst grabbed for the stick gain, then switched tracks and prodded at Peridot’s sides. The effect was immediate, Peridot let out a yelp of a laugh and curled up defensively.
Amethyst laughed too, kissing her and tasting blue raspberry.
Summer was ending, but they were gonna be fine.

The Foxhole Court, Chapter 10 – Your Friendly Neighborhood Shrink
In which we meet Betsy Dobson who appears to be Molly Weasley’s long-lost Ravenclaw sister, some quality Renee time happens, Kevin’s Stoic and Mighty Demeanor has nothing on Dan’s doughnuts, and actual school happens at some point but who gives a shit (spoiler alert: It’s not Neil Josten).
Sounds good? Then it’s time for Nicki to read The Foxhole Court.
Classes were scheduled to start on Thursday, August 24th, so Wednesday’s practice was a bit of a convoluted mess.
Oh, right. Actual school is a thing in this book.
10 bucks says Neil will totally forget about the fact that college exists besides Exy all the damn time.
Neil had forgotten the Foxes were supposed to meet with the psychiatrist Betsy Dobson before the semester began.
As had I.
FUCK YES. SHRINK TIME.
Also, Neil seems to forget an awful lot of things that aren’t either a) Exy, b) Kevin Day, c) his runaway paranoia or d) any combination of the aforementioned things.
On the drive to Betsy’s office, Neil is forced to spend a little time with Renee, which he hates and I love. Give me more Renee time, always.
Nicky had only nice things to say about Renee, but Neil had noticed earlier that no one, Nicky included, wanted Renee and Andrew to be friends. Nicky likely sided with the upperclassmen in thinking Andrew was an awful influence on someone as sweet-tempered as Renee.
If it turns out they don’t like their friendship because it’s actually the other way around and they fear Renee “I’m probably a really cute axe murderer” Walker’s influence on Andrew I’m shitting myself.
(It’s probably not that. But let a girl dream.)
[Neil] wanted to ask why she and Andrew got along so well, but he didn’t want to open up a conversation, so he stared hard out the window and hoped she got the hint.
Somehow, I feel like that’s a very Neil thing to do.
Oh, there’s this thing I really, really want to talk about because open honest conversation about things that bother/interest me could really improve my mental stability? Better never fucking talk about it, ever.
When will he stop being #relatable.
(I should point out at this point that I don’t necessarily always personally relate to things I describe as #relatable. I mean it more in the overall #relatable-ness, the “tumblr-slash-tagged-slash-me”-ness, the grand scheme of relatable things, if you so will.)
(I myself find myself relating more to Nicky than to Neil at this point anyways, morals about consent set aside.)
Dr Betsy Dobson had pale brown hair to her chin and a few extra curves. Years of smiles were etched into her face the way only genuine warmth could scar. She looked friendly, but she wasn’t harmless. The brown eyes looking at him through narrow-rimmed glasses were bright and intelligent.
Which means the only way I’ll be able to see Betsy Dobson now is as a brown-haired, Ravenclaw version of Molly Weasley.
Tumblr media
Heck yes.
Neil took an instant disliking to her.
HOW DARE YOU.
I mean, I get it, trauma and anxiety, I don’t blame him, yadda yadda, also how dare you.
“My name is Betsy Dobson. You can call me whatever you like; I’ll answer to just about anything from Betsy to Doc to Hey You. Shall I call you Neil, or would you prefer Mr. Josten?”
“Either one is fine,” Neil said.
“Then for the time being, I will call you Neil. If you’re ever offended or feel like this makes our relationship too personal, just warn me and I will edit it too something more appropriate for our needs. (…) Why don’t you get comfortable and I’ll make us some hot cocoa.”
That’s it, accepted, loved, cherished, made a nice lil corner for her in my heart, Bee, you’re a good egg.
This impression of her stays through their entire talk she has with Neil. She reminds me of  the psychiatrist I briefly saw when I was still in school, and as that woman was bloody amazing, this can only mean good things.
“What you and I say in here is meant for us alone. [Wymack and Abby] will never ask, and I will never tell. Do you believe me?”
“How can I?” Neil asked. “I just met you.”
“I respect that,” Betsy said. “Hopefully I can earn your trust over time.”
GAH. <3
I’m so, so incredibly happy this character exists. Why is this talk over already.
I hope she comes back lots of times to bless us with wise insights and hot cocoa #cocoaoutforbetsy
Time for more Renee now!
“That wasn’t so bad, was it? Andrew was convinced it would be a disaster. He put money on you hating Betsy.”
“Did you bet against him?”
“Yes,” Renee said. “It was a private bet between the two of us.”
          (…)
“I hope you didn’t lose much,” Neil said.
What’s that saying? ‘A subtle dash of savage a day keeps the curious teammates away’.
“Why does Andrew tolerate you, anyway? You two should hate each other on principle.”
“Either you think too highly of me or not highly enough of Andrew,” Renee said. (…) “My faith keeps me and Andrew from always seeing eye-to-eye, but he and I understand each other.”
Oh, so her cross necklace in those soft grungy tumblr edits isn’t just ~aesthetic religious symbolism~? This is v interesting. TELL ME MORE.
There had to be more to Renee than her cross jewelry and pretty smiles if she’d qualified for a spot on Wymack’s broken team, Neil knew, but he hadn’t thought he’d misjudged her this badly. He mulled over everything that could be wrong with her from split personalities to clinical insanity.
Aha ha ha, literally me since we first met her. GIVE ME RENEE’S SNOWFLAKE AXE MURDERER BACKSTORY, AND GIVE IT TO ME NOW.
They get back to the Court, where Wymack gets ready to do one of the things he does best: Drop casual unexpected oh-shit news bombs.
“If the press slips past and wants answers, you tell them we’re not saying anything until Kathy’s show on Saturday.”
           “Kathy?” Dan asked.
“Kathy Ferdinand.” Wymack took one look at her confused face and scowled at Kevin. “Didn’t you tell them?”
“There wasn’t a need to,” Kevin said.
There wasn’t a need to, my ass. This is prime Kevin-speak for “I don’t want you to watch me fake a billion smiles on national television because I don’t want you to see me as anything else than Prime Exy Overlord, Stoic and Mighty, All Hail Unto Him.”
Thankfully, the Foxes are fluent in Kevin-speak and take none of his bullshit.
“Do you even remember how to smile?“ Matt asked. Kevin glared at him, but Matt only laughed. “Well, that’s worth going for. I’m in.”
“I’ll buy us doughnuts for the ride,” Dan said.
It’s Road Trip To Embarrass Kevin Time!! Love this. Will mentally chip in on the doughnuts.
I also found my chapter title for that interview part just now.
           “No thank you,” Neil said.
“I vetoed your choice on the matter,” Wymack said. “The ERC is outing you Friday morning. I don’t want you out of my sight until the initial hubbub dies down.”
“I can take care of myself,” Neil said.
“Watch me beam with pride. It’s not your job to take care of yourself anymore. It’s your job to play, and mine and Abby’s job to look after you. Get your priorities straight.”
Hello, and welcome to our popular show Neil Doesn’t Realize People Actually Care About Him, episode 2 of a billion!
Also, I want to make a sexuality joke at Neil getting his priorities straight, but I can’t decide on one. I’m sure they’re all ace though.
(I know he’s demi. You fucking try making a demi pun in that context, it’s bloody hard.)
(Actually, do try. Flood my inbox. PLEASE.)
“Kevin, wake that dingbat up withought getting punched in the face. (…)”
“I got it.” Nicky grimaced and gave Andrew a hard shake.
(…) Andrew was moving before he was fully awake, slamming his fist so hard into Nicky’s chest that Neil’s entire body ached in sympathy pain.
Is this habit of Andrew punching the fuck out of people when they wake him going to become a running gag, because I love it.
(It’s probably to do with his backstory, yadda yadda, we all know this, boring, give me more hilarious accidental uppercuts.)
The next three pages are a pretty uneventful description of Neil’s first day at Actual College™, which I’ll spare you because of aforementioned uneventfulness.
Neil giving actual negative fucks about his education makes my lil Ravenclaw nerd heart weep, though. Just for the record.
Neil debated for a minute as to which one [of his assignments] sounded least painful. Five minutes later he was still uninspired, so he put his head down on his desk.
#relatable, this time for real. Me doing maths/science homework in school, all the time.
Matt then catches him literally sleeping his textbooks and, to wrap things up, says the indisputably best thing anyone has said this entire chapter:
“I’d say it gets easier, but.” Matt shrugged. “You should probably cut back on your late practices now that classes are in session.”
           “I’m fine,” Neil said. (…)
“You say that an awful lot,” Matt said. “I’m starting to think you don’t know what it means.”
D R A G   H I M.
Neil “I’m fine” Josten has nothing on Matt “I can see your bullshit and I don’t like the way it stinks up my area” Boyd. <3

Against All Odds
Archie Andrews/Veronica Lodge
Rating: E for Everyone
Tags: Fluff, Friendship
Not exactly a romance fic, but not-not romance. If you know what I mean.
"If Veronica were to leave, it would prove to everyone that there was too much tension, sexual or otherwise, for the two of them to hang out alone without it crossing some kind of line. If Veronica and Archie could spend time together without it being weird, Veronica would know that she could be around Archie without hurting her best friend." ----
Or, Betty's mom didn't let her go, Kevin was babysitting, and Jughead couldn't be bothered to get out of bed.
read below the cut or read here on ao3
The two of them didn’t mean to end up, alone, together.
They really didn’t. Everything that lead up to Archie and Veronica being alone together was completely accidental. Veronica would never do that to Betty.
In fact, she even said so.
“Archie, I could never do this Betty. Not again. Sorry, but this is just too weird. I’m just going to go home.”
The only problem was that it was in fact, raining. Veronica’s jacket, while in correct fashion for this time of year, did not account for the unpredictable weather and lack of Ubers that came with living in a small town. Veronica had to decide between getting drenched on her way home or staying here, at Archie’s house, alone.
Neither option seemed too appealing to her.
“I wouldn’t either, but this isn’t us doing anything. You could just stay here. I know things are…a little weird right now, but there’s nothing wrong with us being friends, right? We can’t hurt Betty by just being friends. It would probably be good for us to get to know each other better so we can stop walking on eggshells around each other.” What Archie was saying, was of course very true.
If Veronica were to leave, it would prove to everyone that there was too much tension, sexual or otherwise, for the two of them to hang out alone without it crossing some kind of line. If Veronica and Archie could spend time together without it being weird, Veronica would know that she could be around Archie without hurting her best friend.
So in the interest of Betty Cooper, Veronica decided to stay. As she crossed the threshold into Archie’s house, she was already worried she had made the wrong decision.
“And, like, I promise I won’t try anything.” He said, completely serious.
“Fuck, Archie.” Said Veronica. “You just made it fucking weird again.”
——
It happened in the stupidest way possible; everybody was supposed to come over to Archie’s house. It was supposed to be a group hangout. Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Kevin. The first one, actually, of them all spending time together. Jughead and Archie were finally friends again, and they had all been sitting together at lunch and breaks. Veronica was excited that she finally felt she had her own little group in Riverdale, something that had been lacking ever since she moved from New York.
The Saturday hangout however, fell apart faster than you could say “squad”.
Kevin was the first one out.
“I’m really sorry guys but I’ve got to babysit my siblings that night.” Kevin sighed the next day at lunch. “I forgot that the second Saturday of the month is my parent’s date night.”
“Your parents do date night every month?” Jughead asked. “Sounds exhausting.”
“Actually, that’s kind of adorable.” Veronica gushed.
“Still as in love as the day they got married.” Betty teased, as Kevin gagged across the table. Betty turned to Veronica. “Kevin’s parents are so cute. You’ll die when you meet them.”
“Well, that sucks Kev. I guess the four of us can just hang out then?” Archie’s question was met with four enthusiastic nods.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Betty smiled.
——
Apparently, the world was equivalent to Betty’s mom making sudden “family plans” as soon as she heard she was going over to Archie’s on Saturday. Kevin not being there, and him being the only one of Betty’s friends that Mrs. Cooper considered acceptable, meant that she saw no reason for Betty to be allowed to attend.
“I can’t believe her!” Betty shouted angrily on a group Skype call.
“The rest of us can.” Jughead said, in-between handfuls of potato chips.
“Can’t you just sneak out or something? Just this once?” Veronica begged, thinking about how awkward it will be for her to spend the day with two ex-best friends, one of which she’s barely spoken to and the other that she knows all too well.
“Veronica…have you met my mother?” Betty asked, pointedly. She was met by a quick chorus of agreements that Betty sneaking out would be the possible worst reason in the world.
“Well I guess it’s just down to three of us.” Archie said. “That okay?”
Veronica and Jughead nodded, while Kevin began talking the background about how it was never going to be fun with Betty anyways, because he couldn’t make it.
——
Jughead, of course, just didn’t show up.
“Where is he?” Veronica asked, for probably the 18th time in the past twenty minutes. She was digging into the bottom the barrel of a peanut butter jar, before giving up and putting it down on the ground for Vegas.
“He’s probably asleep. That’s where he usually is, anyways.” Archie was sifting through his kitchen cupboards for more snacks. He had been avoiding looking Veronica in the eyes, and it was slowly driving Veronica insane. It was like the boy didn’t know how friendship worked.
“You know, back in New York, if someone didn’t show up somewhere that they said they were going to be, we kicked them out of the group.” Veronica mentioned causally.
Archie’s head snapped up at that.
“Wait, really? That seems, like, a little bit harsh don’t you think?” Archie seemed a little bit judgemental when he spoke. Well, at least he was finally looking Veronica in the eyes.
“Yeah, it was kind of a bitchy thing to do, but it’s just what we did. We had a whole list of rules, and if you didn’t follow them, you were axed immediately. Blocked on every form of social media, and just never spoken to again. We were like our own high class version of the plastics.” Veronica smirked at her movie reference.
“Plastics? Like, as in Barbie dolls?” Archie asked.
“No, like as in Mean Girls? The movie?” Veronica raised her voice accidentally at the shock of Archie not knowing the joy of such a beloved cult film.
“Oh, yeah, never seen it. People sure do love to quote it, though.” Archie dismissed the topic.
“What do you mean you’ve never seen Mean Girls?” Veronica exploded.
“Well, I don’t know, isn’t it kinda like, for girls? Like a chick flick?” Archie said.
“What? Just because it’s a female-lead movie, only girls can enjoy it?” Veronica said.
“Well, no-“ Archie started to defend himself, but Veronica threw her hand up to shut him up.
“I wasn’t finished, Archibald. Do you like SNL?” Archie nodded, unsure whether he was allowed to speak. Veronica was please that he quickly figured out that he was not. “Well, Mean Girls was written by Tina Fey, one of SNL’s most successful alumni, not to mention someone who has been paving the road for women in comedy for decades, all while being hilarious. Will Ferrel and Adam Sandler, two other successful SNL alums, don’t get treated this way and I would argue that most of their movies don’t match the comedic genius that is seen in the writing and production of Mean Girls. It is, ball means a movie, that boasts a hilarious female lead cast, with beautifully done comedy that shouldn’t be ignored just because the cover is pink and it stars a teenage girl.” Veronica tried her best not to pant after how worked up she had gotten over her speech.
Archie just stared. He looked a little bit afraid.
Veronica sighed.
“Where’s your TV?” Veronica asked.
“The living room, just right over there.” Archie pointed out the door frame.
“Okay. We’re going to watch Mean Girls.” Veronica waltzed into Archie’s living room, and began messing with his remote to try to find the on-demand option.
——
“Oh my god!” Archie exclaimed.
Veronica groaned.
“What now? Do you have any more insightful thoughts about the movie? Because I think I really needed it pointed out that Cady has trouble being in high school because she’s never been in high school.” As it turns out, Archie is a little bit slow when it comes to movies.
“No, Regina just got hit by a bus! Is she dead? I hope she’s dead. She was a bitch. Oh wait, never mind, she’s not dead.”
Veronica snorted.
“It would be so cool if she was dead.”
At that, Veronica couldn’t help but to burst out laughing.
——
“Okay, you were right, that movie was actually pretty good.” Archie said, in defeat.
“Do you promise to never again judge a movie by a young female lead?” Veronica asked.
“No. If a movie casts like, Meghan Fox as their lead I’m still probably going to judge them a little bit.” Archie said.
“She really can’t act, can she?”
“She really can’t.”
That sat in silence for a short minute.
“Hey, Archie?” Veronica asked, hesitantly.
“Yeah?”
“Are things always going to be weird between us?”
“Were things weird today?”
Veronica thought about that for a second. When Veronica first walked in this house, it felt as if she was walking on egg shells. But right now? She felt okay. Being with Archie, alone, felt okay.
“Well we just watched an entire movie sitting an appropriate amount of distance away from each other on the couch. Not too close, but not awkwardly far. I didn’t once think about trying to move closer. That seems normal.” Veronica reasoned.
“I didn’t think about doing anything either. I was too focused taking in the genius comedy of Mean Girls.” Veronica laughed. Archie shrugged. “That seems like what should be normal.”
“Have you ever had a normal friendship with a girl?”
“I don’t know anymore. There’s always been Betty, but like, I don’t know what to think of that anymore. She’s been my friend forever, and she’s like my sister. I think. I don’t know. If we were watching a movie, I might have my arm around her or something. It didn’t mean anything to me, but I think it might have meant a lot to her. All along. How long as she liked me?” Archie asked.
“I’ve been here for a month, Archie.” Veronica said.
“Right.” Archie paused. “But if you had to guess-“
“If I had to guess I would tell you that that girl has been in love with you since the moment she laid eyes on you, Archie Andrews.” Veronica said. “And I would also guess that you were blind to it all along because you loved her so much.”
“That’s probably all correct, then.” Archie trailed off.
“It’s not your fault, Archie. Just, maybe don’t touch her anymore unless you have the intention to date her.” Veronica said.
“I wish I did.” Archie said.
“I hate this.” He said.
“I love her.” He said.
“I love her too, Archie, and that’s why you better not touch me either.” Veronica said.
“I won’t.”
“And I promise I won’t touch you.” Archie nodded.
They sat in silence for a bit.
“Have you ever had a normal friendship with a guy” Archie asked.
“Not ones that aren’t gay.” Veronica said. “I went to an all girls school back in New York. Boys being anywhere meant it was an occasion, I guess. It wasn’t really until I moved here that I’ve realized that boys can be friends in the exact same way girls can. Even ones I’m attracted to.”
“Really?” Archie asked.
Veronica smiled at Archie. When she first walked into Pop Tate’s and saw him for the first time, she will admit that she just saw him as, well, a cute boy. It’s something that had happened to her a million times before. Veronica Lodge came, saw, and conquered. At least when it came to the opposite sex. She had a feeling that Archie was special from the first time she saw him. But maybe it wasn’t because they were going to date or hook up or fall in love. It might very well be because Archie was the first boy to show Veronica that boys are just like girls, in most ways anyways. All it took was a Lindsey Lohan movie to realize it.
“Really.”
