my favorite hobby is obsessing over the characters/ships no one cares or rarely talks about. it isn’t a conscious decision, i don’t like it, and frankly it’s the worst “hobby” i could take up solely because of the little to none content i get, but someone has to do it. and i, along with the 7 other people in the fandom who are in the same boat, will do it.

Writing Announcement - First Challenge
As you probably know, or if you didn't, now you do, I write fanfics. I have been writing for 10 years (yes, it has apparently been that long). I have been writing under Jackie Wepps for 10 full years as of this past May (I can't believe it).
But in all this time, I have never done a single challenge. The reason is mainly that the idea of doing it never seemed appealing. Besides, I didn't know where to go to participate. I have always been writing as a "free spirit" for the most part, only accepting few requests, which I have done poorly in fullfilling.
But then a friend sent me a link to a post because she thought I might find it fun. I wasn't planning on doing it, but then ideas began to sprout in my head, and now, here I am.
So here it is.
I'm participating in MaeIso week 2022!
I'm planning to post a total of 8 works, I have 2 for the first day. It's all going to come up on AO3. I'm planning some art for one of the stories, however, which will be posted here, because I still don't know how to put art in the stories on AO3.
The works are all written, I just need to edit them and they will be good to go. Oh, and I need to rethink the title for the last one. Good thing I still have some time left to do that.
I look forward to sharing it all with you. I hope you will enjoy reading my works as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

I Wanna Kiss Your Lips
Day 1 of MaeIso week: Firsts/Lasts

It was currently New Year’s Eve and some time past 11:00 PM. Maehara and Isogai were currently sitting at Maehara’s backyard looking at the stars above them.
For a moment, Maehara turned his gaze at his boyfriend. Just looking at him made him smile. He wanted to kiss him before the year ended. Prior to this moment, they never had their official first kiss. While yes, Maehara has earned himself a couple of kisses on the cheek and forehead from Isogai, they never had their first ACTUAL kiss. Y’know, on the lips.
That thought ran through Maehara’s mind. Sure, he was long past having his first kiss but Isogai hasn’t. He could rush in and kiss him now but he wanted things to go smoothly. His boyfriend deserved the absolute best and Maehara wanted to give that to him.
Isogai noticed Maehara staring at him “What?”
“You’re like really pretty, you know that right?” Maehara said as he played with one of Isogai’s brunette strands of hair.
The boy before him turned away but it was obvious he was flustered.
“Pretty, huh?” Isogai said while still looking away, “Don’t you think “handsome” sounds more fitting?”
“What? Have a problem with being called pretty?”
“Well, no.”
Maehara couldn’t help but smile, “Well, I like calling you pretty so, I’m going to keep calling you pretty. That okay?”
“Yeah, it’s okay.” He paused before saying, “I like pretty.”
God, I love him, Maehara thought.
After that, they sat in silence for a couple of more minutes. Maehara checked his phone and saw it was already 11:45. If Maehara was going to kiss Isogai before midnight it had better be soon. Time was running out.
“Um, Hiro?” Just like that, Maehara was snapped out of his thoughts.
“Yes, Yuu?”
“Weird question, but uh, what was your first kiss like? Y’know like, on the lips.”
“My first kiss huh? Well, it wasn’t bad or anything. You remember Jun, right?”
Isogai thought for awhile then nodded, “Wasn’t she…”
“Yup, my first girlfriend.”
“Weren’t you guys like, ten?”
“It still counted! Anyways, we didn’t do much besides hold hands and hug a couple of times. One day during recess, she pulled me under the jungle gym and kissed me. She ran away afterwards.”
“Hm, I don’t think you told me that part.”
Smirking, Maehara moved his face towards Isogai’s closer, “You jelly?”
“No, I’m not.” Isogai tried to look away from him but Maehara moved closer. Rolling his eyes, Isogai pushed him away.
“Anyways, why’d you ask?”
“Well, no reason in particular.” His cheeks were beyond pink, “It’s just, uh, you know how we haven’t officially kissed yet, right? On the lips at least.”
“Huh, really? Haven’t noticed.” That was clearly a lie but Maehara wanted to see where this was going.
“Yeah, well, it is New Year’s Eve and all and it’s almost midnight and y’know what couples usually do at midnight?” He fiddled with his hands, “Well, uh, I guess what I’m trying to say is, um…” He gulped, “Can you kiss me?”
Maehara looked at Isogai for a moment before grinning, “Oh?”
He nervously chuckled, “Well, I don’t have any experience with kissing and you have like…a bunch.”
“Well, you didn’t have to put it like that now.”
“I figured that we should have our first kiss before the year ends. With you kissing me of course. Um, if that’s alright with you?”
“Why of course.”
He smiled, oh so wholesomely in Maehara’s eyes, “Great! So what should I do?”
Maehara leaned in and tilted his chin up, “Just sit there and look pretty as always. Okay?”
He nodded and closed his eyes.
It’d be a lie to to say that Maehara didn’t adore Isogai. So much so that he couldn’t help but just sit there and admire him for a bit.
He sat there in awestruck when Isogai peeked one of his eyes open and Maehara was quickly reminded of what he should be doing.
“Hey, keep your eyes closed!”
“Sorry sorry!” He shut his eyes and briefly laughed.
That small laugh of his was music to Maehara’s ears.
It was hard to tell if his heart was racing out of love or out nervousness. Both was the best option it seemed.
Like Isogai had said, Maehara was certainly over experienced when it came to the whole kissing thing. But he couldn’t remember the last time he felt this way. This nervous. Through all his time kissing girls it never felt as if his heart was going to beat out of his chest like it is now.
That was probably because Isogai wasn’t just some girl to him. He was so much more than that to him and he loved him with all of his heart.
Sensing Isogai was getting antsy, he finally put their lips together.
There were two words to describe it. Pure heaven. Both of them felt as if they were on cloud nine.
Maehara moved his hands to hold Isogai’s face and Isogai held them.
The kiss felt so different from the other ones Maehara had. It felt familiar. It felt comforting. It felt safe.
It felt right.
He didn’t want to stop honestly.
He could tell that Isogai didn’t want to either.
Unfortunately, the tender moment was interrupted by the booming, cackling sound in the sky.
They looked up and was greeted with extravagant fireworks above.
Maehara pulled out his phone and checked the time again. It was precisely 12:00am.
It was midnight.
Maehara looked up and smiled.
He sat there admiring the fireworks for a while and then turned his eyes back to his absolutely, lovely boyfriend.
Isogai wasn’t looking at the fireworks, instead he was touching his lips from what it seemed like absolute satisfaction and wonder. He closed his eyes and smiled to himself.
He put his gaze back onto Maehara and they locked eyes.
“So, how was that for your first kiss?”
He hummed, “It was nice. I loved it.” He took my hand and squeezed it, “I love you.”
“I love you too, Yuuma.”
He nodded and fiddled with his fingers, “So, how was the kiss for you?”
“You’re asking me?”
“Well, yeah! Is that weird?”
He shook his head, “It isn’t weird, okay? And if you enjoyed the kiss, of course I would as well. I loved it, too.”
“That’s good.”, Isogai looked up and leaned his head on Maehara’s shoulder, “Happy New Year’s, Hiro.”
Maehara put his head on top of Isogai’s, “Happy New Years, Yuu.”

And I actually have 4 so... Here we go!
Treasure Planet. So underrated, which is totally unfair. Beautiful story and one of the few (if not only) Disney movies that don't have a love interest for the MC. It's all about growing up and finding yourself and found family. In fact, just realized, Jim is like Stag in that regard. Both were abandoned at a young age by their fathers and became rebellious to the point of being impossible to deal with until their father figure came into their life. And also, never having a father of my own to look up to, this really resonates with me. Haha, Deshi's dad left him at a young age too. I'm sensing a theme. 😆 Unlike Stag though, Deshi doesn't need a father figure in the sense that he's not looking for one nor does he find one. (Although Lord Carroll does get close...)
Sinbad, another underrated film. By Dreamworks this time. The most alluring part of this film:
That fucking hair!!! Man, I could just watch how her hair flows forever. Like, nobody has ever made hair that moves like this before, or since! It's close to underwater hair, but not quite, so Little Mermaid doesn't count. But seriously, that fucking hair. And Sinbad is pretty funny. 😆 Most quoted scene between Deo and I, a dude gets thrown up by a sea monster, shakes it off, and goes to attack again. "Give that guy a raise." -Sinbad Yes, please. He deserves it. 😀👍
Anastasia. I loved this movie growing up. Rasputin what such a terrifying bad guy, and Anastasia was anything but weak. Despite it not being a Disney flick at the time, it broke the mold on Disney princesses. Tangled and Frozen hadn't come out yet and Anastasia was the only princess to do what she wants, when she wants, how she wants. Instead of the man saving her from some evil villain, he saves her in the very beginning from a threat to the royal family. And then she saves herself from Rasputin at the end. Well, and Dimitri, because, you know, he was hanging off a bridge. So many movies before this were misogynistic and so many after are so feminist that they really diss on males, but in Anastasia, they are equals simply facing the world together, and to me, that's just beautiful. Hello!
I thought I'd drop by and tell you how much i adore your writing. I found you from ao3, and your fic "Golden Eyes" was SO CUTE OMG
I really like how you write the characters' personalities! They act in a way that you can see them acting in the original series, which i like.
(also, i did read your other maeiso fic. I don't think it's cringy at all! I thought it was amazing and the little notes they gave each other were adorable)
Well this was a fun surprise to wake up to, thank you so much!! I wrote “Golden Eyes” at 2am in one sitting, so I’m glad you liked it and thought it was accurate haha!
(And “Adventures of Maeiso” will always hold a special place in my heart, but at the end of the day it was still written by 15 year old Z so it’ll always be a bit cringy to me lol)
I’ve actually been trying to get my writing groove back, since college has eaten a lot of my free time and motivation, so there might be another fic coming soon! I have a few ideas and there will probably be an Assassination Classroom one in the mix, since I can never stay away from it for too long ❤️

Hi! Do you have any Maeiso fic recs?

Why yes indeed I do. I've read. . . so many it's actually embarrassing.
I've never made a fic rec list before so bear with me. It isn’t professional in the least bit it’s just me rambling.
These are in no particular order, just from what I remember. A lot of these are from Ao3.

Rely on Me a Little by Lephise is an all-time favorite of mine. It’s in Maehara’s point of view, beautifully written. Highly recommend it. Promise You’ll Return, also by Lephise is also up there. Set in the Okinawa arc, there’s light angst on Isogai’s part (‘cause well, half the class is sick, and he got reminded of his dad, so y’know).
Also consider reading MelissaMcEagle's MaeIso Fic Collections (a collection of MaeIso drabbles, one-shots, and ficlets) and Match-Matching Time Round 2 (in which the girls and Koro-sensei try and get Maehara and Isogai together). They're so good. I never get tired of rereading them.
They also wrote Poorly Thought Out Text Messages, which uh, is unfinished and hasn’t been updated since 2016 but it’s still a wonderful read if you want to give it a go. It’s a MaeIso fake dating au with mutual pining, lots of it- wow they’re oblivious.
If you're up for feels and angst then I suggest I'll fly a little higher by isogai. It’s a MaeIso hospital au. Do proceed with caution as there is what I’d consider major character death, though the author decided not to use archive warnings. They also wrote some maeiso drabbles and In all the wrong places (soulmate au, but Maehara Hiroto doesn’t believe in fate).
You Mocha Me Crazy by thoushaltnotdie is pretty sweet and cute. Coffee shop au. Coffee puns.
More MaeIso fics by them include Of Light Touches and Longing Glances, Unrequited Love and Reassurance, and I’ll Kiss Those Bruises Goodbye. The first two are connected. Third one is a Valentine’s day fic based off the Valentine’s day chapter.
While we’re on the topic, here’s another Valentine’s day fic by another person.

Some Isogai hcs
✨His favorite seasons are fall and spring. They’re the only seasons that aren’t too cold or hot. He definitely prefers fine weather
✨At home, before he has to study for a while, he texts Maehara before setting his phone on do not disturb. He actually does that when he’s studying or doing an assignment
✨I think it’s safe to say he’s that type of person that sets his phone on do not disturb almost all the time and forgets to turn that off lol. Good thing Maehara is used to that but his other friends not so much
✨He tries to look neat and representable whenever he goes out but doesn’t want to stand out too much with his fashion where he’s the center of everyone’s attention
✨He doesn’t listen to a lot of music tbh. He doesn’t have a favorite type of music either. He’ll probably listen to whatever is popular at the time because he doesn’t have a debatable take on music
✨He is the happiest when he is around his family and Maehara and doesn’t wish anything more
✨He’s a fast learner so he can get the gist of any activity, sport, hobby easily
✨He was definitely a shy kid but as he grew up, he would be more involved in attempting to getting to know people in his class
✨When he was in the Tennis club, he didn’t talk to anyone much besides Yada. She was the first one to come up to him to compliment his skills and introduce herself. Sometimes after practice, they hit up a smoothie place to sit and chat for a little bit. So I hc him and Yada to have known each other prior to be put in E class
✨The two still try to reconnect in E class even though they’re technically not in the same social groups. Yada finds out where he works at through Maehara and will visit him for a chance to talk and enjoy the comfort food
✨I read this Maeiso fic one time and in a flashback, it revealed that Karma convinced Isogai to attend Kunugigaoka in the first place. I forgot how or what he said (Credit for that goes to wasp factor on ao3, the author of “Dance like nobody’s watching (for it’s just for you and me)”) Isogai had also known Karma before they were put in E class too
✨He is a big coffee drinker. Hot coffee he likes the most. Like he pretty much needs one every morning otherwise he won’t have the energy to do well in class. He will lose it if he doesn’t get his coffee for the day
✨He loves warm beverages even tea. Not a fan of cold drinks. If he’s at a restaurant, he’ll have a water with no ice all the time
✨He’s a small business supporter. He really looks up to the owners of their places. He’s even made acquaintances with some of the owners but they’re mostly middle aged people

Nagisa Friendships That Butter My Croissant
So Sugino x Nagisa is my BrOTP (I stan those baby bois so much) and a very close second is Isogai x Nagisa (despite that friendship getting like no screen time). And here are the other platonic Nagisa relationships that I’m really into (I’m just ranting here so things may not make sense, oops):
Fuwa: I’ve made headcanons about this before but Fuwa and Nagisa are like the ultimate Otaku x Superhero fan friendship. I have a friend that is literally so into my ships just because I get so hyped about them and she’s not even in the same fandom as me - that’s them. Catch these guys watching fandom conspiracy theories and texting each other like
Nagisa: Okay but what if Ross is secretly working with Hydra?
Fuwa: *closes her manga, despite knowing nothing about the MCU* Tell me everything.
They would get really into each other’s fandoms and have Sherlock marathons. Have def cosplayed as Sherlock and Watson at one point. Nagisa tries (key word: tries) to tone down Fuwa’s chaoticness but she is a force that can’t be contained. They just love and care for each other so much and Fuwa would unleash hell on anyone that would make her buddy sad
Maehara: I’ve got a thing for Maeiso being Nagisa’s protective older brothers (even though they’re both younger than him) - mainly due to a pic I saw on Pinterest a few months back. (I’ve actually got a Maeiso + Nagisa fic in my drafts so wink wink). But yeah, Maehara and Nagisa is basically the cool, popular, confident kid and the shy, nervous sweetie pie and their dynamic is really interesting. It’s canon that Maehara is really affectionate with Nagisa (he ruffles his hair, hugs him, punches his shoulder) and really praises him and I see Nagisa looking up to him because Nagisa admires confident people (ie: Karma, Kataoka). IDK how to explain it but I see their friendship as something that’s really sweet - with Nagisa seeing Maehara as someone he can laugh around with and Maehara just hyping Nagisa up. Oh yeah, Maehara totally flirts with him like all the time and Nagisa either doesn’t get it or just blushes - and Maehara also totally has a habit of doing impromptu ballroom dances for fun
Terasaka: OH YES! I LIVE FOR TERASAKA AND NAGISA FRIENDSHIPS YOU HAVE NO IDEA! GIVE ME THE TOUGH GUY WHO ACTS LIKE A JERK BUT IS SECRETLY A SWEETHEART AND THE SWEET LITTLE BEAN THEY WOULD KILL FOR! So I see them as having a big and little brother relationship (Terasaka has a younger sister so he already knows how to be a protective older brother) with Terasaka finding Nagisa ‘annoying’ because our cutie patootie is always so nice and sweet and kind and forgiving but if anyone looks at Nagisa wrong, Terasaka will sock ‘em into next week because ‘that’s my classmate a*hole’. And yeah, I just live for Nagisa being adopted by the Terasaka gang like Itona because why not?
Hazama: Apart from the obvious, I think that the two of them like to hang out because they are both gothic literature nerds (my headcanon is that English loving Nagisa is a total English lit nerd - no, I’m not projecting onto him). They drink tea and have deep and meaningful conversations. It’s cool.
Okajima: If you’ve read my fic ‘Group Chat Time’ on AO3, you could kind of tell that Okajima x Nagisa is kind of a crack ship of mine. IDK I think that they’d have a cute relationship, can’t really explain it. And since I’ve taken to the genderfluid!Okajima like a duck to water. I can see the two of them talking about gender and sometimes when Nagisa goes on overnight trips, his mom packs a skirt so Okajima takes it, wears it and shows it off to everyone like a model.
Kurahashi: PURE BEANS BEING PURE. Nagisa can be pessimistic at times so Kurahashi’s bubbly attitude always lifts him up. They go on bug watching adventures and Nagisa takes down notes because he loves learning. They also have like 20 origami animal children that they are very proud parents of.
Asano: ALRIGHT I KNOW. But hear me out. Sweet, kind Nagisa and the ice prince of Kunugigaoka, like yes. Like a Romeo and Juliet star-crossed lovers thing but platonically. Nagisa’s cinnamon rolliness somehow finding a way to make friends with Asano is my guilty pleasure, alright. And cue the disbelief and the outrage and E-Class threatening to castrate and disembowel the student council president? Gimme!

Writing Announcement - Another Challenge
What's this? Jackie Wepps is still writing fanfics? I completely forgot she used to do that!
I really hope you haven't. Just in case, I'm here to remind you that I am, and let you know that something is coming up very soon (in a few hours at the latest).
Remember how I participated in MaeIso week 2022? I did. And I have every intention of participating in MaeIso Week 2023 too. I would have liked to at least have all seven works ready before making my announcement, but as I have mentioned, life happened over summer break, then school started on Monday and I've been busy adjusting to the new schedule. I still need to write one work, just one!
I know the challenge lists two prompts for each day and even so, I'm not required to use both, but that's what I tried to do. I succeeded with the majority (I think. You be the judge).
I'm going to post all the works on AO3. In case you don't know, you can find me there under the same username. While I posted 9 works last year, I only plan on posting 7 this year (and I plan on sticking to that, because I'm not made up of time).
I guess I need to provide a link to the challenge hosted by @maeisotime23. Aside from that, I don't think I have anything more to add of my own.
I apologize that this announcement is coming very late.
I look forward to seeing what other participants come up with for this week.

Day 7 of Maeiso Week: Free Day

Hanami gave up on the concept of love a long time ago. To her, people confuse simple interest or infatuation with true, genuine love. She used to find herself among those people.
She was naive once and thought she found her true love like you see in fairy tales but she quickly learned that this was the ugly reality, not a beautiful fairy tale.
She found out her husband was seeing other women behind her back. Even when they already had children. That didn’t matter to him though.
Hanami was left heartbroken with three children and no one but herself to help watch over them. She learned to adapt to it but this made spending time with her kids way harder. What Hanami wasn’t prepared for was two of her kids following in their father’s footsteps.
One of her daughters, Himeko, started to gain the attention of many boys around her. Next thing Hanami knew, Himeko had a new boyfriend every week. That was bad enough but later on her son went down the same path. Although, instead of being chased after, Hiroto was doing all the chasing. This just concerned Hanami even more. To her, the whole thing was incredibly sad. Hiroto was just wasting his time going from loveless relationship to loveless relationship.
She’s not even sure what he has to gain from doing all of this. This just proves her point even more, Hiroto was never genuinely in love with any of these girls. He just took interest in them for a couple of seconds than some time later lost it and decided to move on to the next girl. She’s not sure what he’s going for but all of this girl chasing isn’t going to do him any good.
Hanami figured that Hiroto wasn’t going to find any girl that he’d genuinely fall for, this was no fairy tale after all.
To her surprise, her son managed to find himself a different kind of love. He found it with his childhood friend, Yuuma.
Hanami remembers seeing the two grow up. She remembers Hiroto’s eyes lighting up every moment when Yuuma visited. She remembers Hiroto getting sick because Yuuma was sick and he just couldn’t leave him alone. She remembers Hiroto being afraid to get his shot but when he heard that Yuuma got a shot, he wasn’t so afraid anymore.
Their friendship was the purest thing that she had ever seen. Who knew that this friendship could develop into something more. Hanami sure didn’t.
She was on a phone call in her room when Hiroto can in trying to tell her something. Hanami put the phone call on hold for a moment and that’s when she heard it
“Mom, I’m dating Yuuma.”
At this point, Hiroto hasn’t dated another girl in months. Somehow, he’s managed to be in a relationship with Yuuma. Yuuma, his childhood friend. Yuuma, the boy she’s seen her son grow up with. Yuuma, her old friend’s son.
Hanami was skeptical of this relationship at first. She didn’t have a problem with Hiroto dating Yuuma exactly, the problem is she wasn’t sure how long it would last. She was very much aware of her son’s commitment issues. Even if they were childhood friends, to Hanami there was no sure way of telling how long it would last. Hanami observed their relationship for months wondering if she would find any sign of them potentially falling apart. She knows it’s strange to be so stuck on this idea but she couldn’t help it. She knows the longer you’re in a relationship the more it hurts when you have to let each other go. She knew about this very well and didn’t want her son nor Yuuma to go through the same thing.
But, she noticed while observing them all those months, that they looked happy like, genuinely happy. Hiroto has had countless of girls over at their house but never had she ever seen any of the girls share the same look of adoration in their eyes for him as Yuuma. Also, this look of adoration was mutual. It was like they were truly in love. Even then, she still had her doubts. Hanami was a stubborn person and when she has her thoughts set on something, it’s hard for those thoughts to change.
She decided to ask her friend Ayame, Yuuma’s mother, what she thought of the boys’ relationship.
“Well, I think that they’re absolutely pure. I’m glad Yuuma managed to find someone he loves so dearly.”
“But, you know how my son is. Aren’t you at least afraid that, I don’t know, they’ll fall apart soon.”
“Hmm, no.”
“Huh?”
“I don’t want them fall apart at all and I can’t see it happening anytime soon. I can’t predict the future or anything but from where I see it, they truly do love each other. I’ve seen how happy they make each other and I can’t but be reminded of Yuko and I, y’know?”
Of course she’d think that. While Hanami took the more pessimistic approach to life, Ayame liked to take the more optimistic route. Hanami used to find that mentality of hers to be nonsensical but she’s starting to think she’s right. Hanami can’t predict future so is there really any use in worrying about it?
She thinks back to all the kind gestures the two do for each other and the soft gazes they give each other. She should be happy that her son has managed to find someone to do these things with rather than think of the worst possible outcome of it.
Hanami’s not exactly sure what the future holds for them but there’s no point in thinking about that now.
Maybe love isn’t only meant for fairytales
