Some News
So, I got some bad news for peeps v.v
I lowkey haven't been feeling the spark to write 'Was Not The Hero'. Not sure why. Maybe I'm burnt out with Philip. So, I've been working on other things to kind of get myself back from feeling so burnt out.
I've also been drawing characters for an original book series I've been working on since 2001 and going to be writing a pilot version of it in November (going to be participating in that nanowrimo event to help me focus on the writing portion).
So, the bad news is too I won't be writing fanfictions in November. They will be in Hiatus. I am going to be slow in December when I return to fanfiction writing due to the holidays too, but I will do my best to write at least one more Was Not The Hero chapter and Trust Me chapter before November comes.
I want to thank everyone for the support that you peeps have given me and I will do my best not to abandon these stories cause I do love them and there is so much to tell. I am just afraid if I force myself to write them at this moment, they won't come out as the way I want them to. I want them to feel as emotional as they were before. I don't want to ruin these stories v.v
Note: If anyone wants to poke me in october or dec to make sure i do continue writing these fanfics I welcome it. Sometimes i need some reminders v.v

Age of Empires 2 - Here's some mostly accurate historical events where you take on the role of a historic military leader and fight their battles, but if you don't already know better then you'll learn some very inaccurate things.
Age of Empires 3 - "Quickly fictional character, sail to America to be friends with the Aztecs so they can help you find the fountain of youth which is real for some reason. And hurry, before the evil secret cult finds it and obtains immortal life!"

Age of empires II 🏰
Tumblr media
Illustration made for the sports event "REDBULL WOLOLO" on the Age of Empires license. The event took place in Heidelberg Castle in Germany (October 2022). I made two illustrations that were hung on the stage, this one is for the game "Age of Empires II". The Shelby Cobra car, accompanied by scouts on horseback.

The controversial chapter...
Welp, if people are going to still hate it, might as well post a snippet here lol. There is a trigger warning associated with this chapter, please read at your own discretion.
Also guess who is posting today??? That’s right, this girl.
Itachi traversed the length of the small living room in a few quick strides, he grabbed the suit jacket that he had previously abandoned by the cushion and managed to cover her shoulders with it just as Haru rounded the corner. His eyes were big and solemn as he surveyed the damage in the living room. Itachi’s heart constricted as the boy’s eyes came to rest upon Hinata’s back, he braced himself for the tears that were sure to come from the toddler. Haru surprised him as he fiddled with the hem of his pajama top and furrowed his little brow at the obviously broken door.
“W-will we be able to fix it before the bad man comes back?” His whisper was barely audible, Itachi had to strain to hear it. The sob that left Hinata was much more easily discernible and palatable than the implication of the words that Haru had just whispered.
Itachi’s eyes narrowed, burning with anger as he stared at the back of her head. He knew that this was not her fault, that she had done her best to help them both survive. He knew that there were wounds that had no explanation, that there were things she kept from him. He rationalized it, he willed his mind to find logical answers to the situation he found himself in right now. Coming up short with forgiveness for the monster that had done this to her, but also struggling to forgive her for putting Haru at risk. Rage bloomed in his chest, a flower so fragrant that it threatened to choke him with its scent. Itachi knew that Hinata was a victim, that Haru was a victim, but no amount of rationalizing could squelch the burning in his chest.
He had been coming over for months, he had been leaving her notes for months. Asking if she needed anything, asking how she was doing. She had held entire conversations with him through that whiteboard and not once did she ever tell him… she never even hinted at this. Part of him knew that it was not her that he was angry with, that this feeling burning in his chest was directed at the monster that had done this. But his wrath blooming unbidden hinted at the impotence he felt for having done nothing to protect them.
“Tachi…” Haru pulled at his shirt, bringing reality crashing down around him. “A-are you mad?” His soft question hit Itachi like a whip across the face, a striking reminder that he needed to control his murderous expression. “Will you…. Will you leave?” The question was asked with a resignation that made Itachi want to burn the entire building to the ground so that Haru would never have to relive the moments he spent in here.
“Of course not Haru, I’m not going anywhere.” The words were murmured softly, sighing as he glanced at Hinata. She still had not moved from where she sat defeated on the floor, the only indication that she was even breathing was the salty smell of her tears that permeated the room. Closing his eyes and rubbing the bridge of his nose, Itachi quickly came to a decision. He untied his signature low ponytail, tendrils of hair had come loose during the altercation and quickly he tied his hair high on the crown of his head for once. He glanced around him and then kneeled so that he could look at Haru in the eyes. “Could you go find your mom a change of clothes? I’ll take her to the bathroom so she can get cleaned up.”
You can  find it in AO3 and FFNet

As a kid, I thought that if I learned English I would understand what the units in this game said when you move them around. But for some reason, despite them speaking English most of the time, most of these are still utter gibberish to me.
I don't know why the little Settlers are saying things like "ewol", "fosta" and "pockaster" when I make them do things, it's like they're speaking Simlish.
This is extremely funny because every other language other than English seems to actually have been researched and spoken correctly - as I mentioned before with Morgan's Scottish Gaelic voicelines.
In fact, when I played Challenge or Multiplayer mode as a kid, I used to main the Portuguese because their characters were the only ones I could understand perfectly. What gives?

Thoughts on Age of Empires 2?
I think you know them quite well by now! But it has been really interesting to go back and play this again after so many years. In a way, along with Starcraft and Warcraft 2 but I have no real memory of that one it was a foundational game for me to get into RTSs back in the day, and there's something really nostalgic going back to it especially considering how ubiquitous it was back in the day!
It was one of those games that was everywhere, in like, every computer lab and every internet cafe back in my Youth (along with other Third World Net Cafe Classics like Tibia online or Mu and the rest of the rotating cast of kmmos), yet I never got the chance to get too to into it, not having stable computer access for a long time meant I could only play it very few times.
Which makes getting back into it now kind of fascinating! because i never learned how the game is properly played or how the competitive metagame is supposed to work feels like taking a new spin on something familiar in a way I really like - especially because I used to find it really hard to get back into these games due to feeling essentially Not Smart Enough to learn how to play it Correctly... Yet, it's been a lot easier than I thought, once I know what I'm doing, and I really like having a framework of actions to take that I can then deviate from as needed! It gives me a really good foundation to build game knowledge on top of and makes me appreciate the little nuances between factions a lot better.
And that's the other thing - as someone who primarily played stuff like starcraft or command and conquer, the idea of a more standardized game where every faction has ~more or less the same roster is very appealing to me, and it really highlights the ways in which they get to be different and unique. It inherently calls attention to the nuances of the game and guides you towards strategizing in specific ways that are very dependent on systems knowledge without actually having to internalize all of that at once - i.e., if you're playing, say, franks, you know your focus will be cavalry, so you'll be building that primarily and then strategizing around that primary focus in order to patch up the rock-paper-scissors weaknesses of your army; which in turn forces you to internalize a lot of unit dynamics very quickly (though, in fairness, i do think the harder counters in aoe3 do a better job of this, but that's a different game altogether).
To put it in simpler terms: I feel like I understand completely why the game has such an enduring presence in RTS spaces and why it has such a vibrant community surrounding it, and I can better appreciate now how well balanced and tweaked the whole thing is, even if this comes in the name of taking... massive liberties with historical accuracy in some places (Incan eagles...), it's a lot like chess, you have to not think about it too much I think, and it makes some of the places where they get to show off their research that much more interesting. Overall, I'm really enjoying it! I refuse to play against another human being, though. I would get crushed.
Also give me back the old main menu!!!
