If you’d like to learn a bit about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander queer history, we’ve put together a few links to get you started.

ATSI Rainbow Archive curated by Andrew Farrell - an online archive active from 2014 to 2021, cataloguing links from across the internet referencing queer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences.
What do we know about queer Indigenous history? by James Findley (2018) - an article in which Findley speaks to queer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people about their understandings and experiences of queer Indigenous history.
Colouring the Rainbow: Blak Queer and Trans Perspectives edited by Dino Hodge (2015) - an anthology of essays and personal stories by twenty-two First Nations people exploring identity, culture and queerness.
We are far from experts so if you have links to more sources feel free to add them.

Please don’t let this become a thing in Australia
Anthony Albanese (our current Prime Minister) recently unveiled his plan to boost ATSI voices to parliament, and now people are getting this in the mail. ATSI people are only 3% of our population, but are affected disproportionately by incarceration. They make up 30% of our prison population.
You are never going to be a racial minority as a white person here, never act like it.

teacher: <asks question>
me: <answers, but struggles to articulate it>
other student: <articulates exactly what I meant>
teacher: <summarises what we both said, except that she completely misunderstood me and thought I was talking about something different entirely>

as a casual harry fan i have to say my respect for him went up so much when he did the Welcome to Country before his aussie shows and waved the Aboriginal flag. like i know that it really is just bare minimum at this point but there’s not a lot of mainstream artists that do that and i know that must’ve meant a lot to ATSI harries, so i think it’s cool that he did

( Suguru's penchant for poetry only becomes more profound with age. From notes in his diary during his highschool years to fully embracing his flair for melodrama in the cult. Albeit being an atsy person, Suguru is private about it because he views it as an expression of his esoteric world. He does a lot of self-introspection through the arts; so he never really shows anyone the stuff he makes. In highschool his friends are all aware that he likes to doodle though. Both because of the incident with that one doodle of Yaga that got him a month of toilet duty and because, when he really liked someone, he'd maybe leave a small doodle on their notes for them to find.
After dropping out, Suguru begins to develop a taste for the traditional, so he turns to haiku and practicing the shamisen in the temple gardens. Doodling evolves into full on paintings, though most of the time he sticks to landscapes and doesn't really finish or hang them up. It's a relaxation thing, there's no endgoal. Very few people in his life are aware of how intrinsical these things are to him — maybe only his daughters, in truth. Suguru enjoys art in the same way a samurai would, as part of a general well-rounded culture and a means of expressing higher thoughts and philosophical questions; he is someone who thinks deeply and feels deeply.
It's also notable how something that's usually linked with kinder, sensitive dispositions can exist in someone with biased and hateful thinking. In the House of the Children of the Star, Suguru sits out on his porch and writes poetry whilst using some monkey as a footstool or cleans his paintbrush on their clothes without sparing them a single glance. It's a tranquil sort of sadism. )

i want to introduce my international friends and followers to a major political event happening in my home country of australia, and my stance on it.
this event is a referendum (a vote to reject or approve a proposed constitutional or legal change). in this case, the proposed law is "to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice." the form the Voice will take is an advisory body of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, which can offer independent advice to parliament on issues that affect ATSI people.
why is this important? i'll try to be brief, but tldr, aus is really fkn racist. our government is consistently awful at doing the right thing for our first peoples, and previous attempts at forming indigenous advisory bodies have been quickly dissolved with changes in political leadership. we are also the only commonwealth nation that does NOT have a treaty with its indigenous people, and any formal recognitions of indigenous sovereignty we do have are few and far between. the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous australians when it comes to education, healthcare, addiction income, and more is also horrifying.
while a yes vote would not guarantee treaty or instantly close the gap, it will codify the need for a Voice in the constitution, meaning it cannot be taken away without another referendum. i personally think it is a step in the right direction that will amplify indigenous voices and allow the government to make better decisions on issues affecting our oldest communities. and that is why i will #voteyes ❤️💛🖤💙💚
(i was going to break down and counter the key points for the no campaign but it was getting too long. just like the list of my country's crimes against aboriginal people!)
