The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah 🌹

• Pray abundantly. Make sure the fard/obligatory prayers are on time. Make it a practise to pray the Sunnah prayers from this month onwards.

• Fast as much as possible during the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah. Especially the day of Arafah (9th of Dhul Hijjah, day before 'Eid), it expatiates the sins for the previous and the coming year and many other virtues for yaum ‘Arafah.

• Make du'a, give sadaqah, ask for forgiveness from Allah, repent, read Quran, and increase in all types of 'Ibadah.

• Increase in Adhkar & Ad'iyah. Increase Tasbih, Tabir, frequently:

Our Prophet ﷺ said: “There are no days that are greater before Allah or in which good deeds are more beloved to Him, than these ten days, so recite a great deal of tahleel, takbeer and tahmeed during them.” (Ahmad)

Tahmeed: Al-hamdu Lillah (All praises be to God)

Tahleel: Laa ilaha ill-Allah (There is no god but Allah)

Tasbeeh: Subhaan-Allah (Glory be to God)

Niyyah (Intention) for Fasting in Ramadhan

نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ غَدٍ عَنْ أَدَاءِ فَرْضِ رَمَضَانَ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

Nawaitu sawma ghadin 'an adaa-i fardhi Ramadhaana hadhihis-sanati lillaahi ta'aalaa.

O Allah, I intend to fast for this day in order to perform my duty towards You in the month of Ramadhan of the present year.

Du'aa for Breaking the Fast

اَللّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَعَلى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ

Allaahumma laka sumtu wa 'alaa rizqika aftartu.

O Allah! For You have I fasted and upon Your sustenance have I broken my fast.

Morning and Evening Dhikr (Remembrance)

Radheetu billaahi Rabbaa wa bil-Islaami deenaa wa bi-Muhammadin Rasoolaa رَضِيتُ بِاللهِ رَبًّا وَبِالإِسْلاَمِ دِينًا وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولاً.

I am content (pleased) with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, as my Messenger.

Du’aa (Supplication) Related to the Adhaan (The Muslim Call to Ritual Prayer)

It was narrated from Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever says, when he hears the mu’adhdhin: 'Ash-hadu alla ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu wa anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rasuluhu, radhitu billahi Rabban, wa bil-Islami dinan wa bi Muhammadin Rasula أشهد أن لا إله إلّا الله وحده لاشريك له وأنّ محمّدا عبده ورسوله رضيت بالله ربّا وبالإسلام دينا وبمحمّد رسولا (I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner or associate, and that Muhammad (SAWS) is His slave and Messenger; I am content with Allah as my Lord, Islam as my religion and Muhammad (SAWS) as my Messenger),' his sins will be forgiven."

Note:

Say this prayer immediately following the declaration of faith called by the mu’adhdhin (prayer caller).

Assalamu’Alaikum. I committed the same mistake 3 times now. My best friend cut me off from his life as a result of this. He doesn’t want to have anything to do with me. I guess it’s men’s ego too. Please keep me in your duaas that Al Jabbar reunites us. I’m completely shattered and heart broken. I shouldn’t have done this… assuming things about people without understanding first. Please keep me in your duaas. That Allah can mend our friendship again.

I'm assuming this is a brother (muslim women shouldn't have male best friends), and with all due to respect, I'm sure there are plenty of other brothers here whom you could vent to and ask for ad'iyah. I know this is anonymous and so there supposedly shouldn't be anything wrong with it, but I still do consider it to be wrong. There's no need for brothers to be sending anons like these to sisters when other brothers are available.

I don't mean to offend or hurt, but I really do think we should be very careful when it comes to boundaries between men and women, especially online, even if it is anonymous.

Review: Arabic blackboard

Een paar weken geleden ontving ik een arabic blackboard en bijbehorende krijtjes. Ik vond dit een top idee voor Ramadan! Ik heb dit jaar geen Ramadan hoekje, dus dit kwam wel heel goed van pas.

Ik heb de arabic blackboard in de keuken geplakt, bij de eettafel. Het aanbrengen van de blackboard op de muur was heel simpel en in een paar minuten gedaan. Let er wel op dat je je muur vetvrij maakt, vooral een keukenmuur (die vaak wel snel vettig is).

Voor Ramadan heb ik er nu de tijden op geschreven van suhur en iftar en de du'aa voor het verbreken van vasten. Op deze manier leren de kinderen de du'aa sneller uit hun hoofd in sha Allah.  Ook voorkomt het elke dag dezelfde vraag; "hoelaat is iftar?" Nu weten ze zelf waar ze het kunnen zien. De arabic blackboard is heel makkelijk te reinigen met een vochtig doekje en droogt binnen enkele seconden.

Ik mocht er krijtjes bij kiezen en koos voor bovenstaande krijtjes. Wat ik hier het handigste van vind is dat de krijtjes in een houder zitten. We weten allemaal hoe vervelend het is als je aan het schrijven bent en het krijtje breekt. Vervolgens is het vervelend vasthouden omdat het te klein is. Nu gebeurt dat niet vanwege de houder. Zodra je krijtje een beetje op is kun je het simpelweg naar boven draaien. De krijtjes schrijven heel fijn en zijn dus makkelijk weg te vegen.

De Arabic blackboard kun je voor talloze doeleinden gebruiken en op elke plek in huis. Als je het zat bent in de ene kamer, plak je 'm op in een andere kamer. Hij is bijvoorbeeld heel leuk in een kinderkamer, want hoe graag kleuren (kleine) kinderen op muren?!?!?! Je kunt er ad'iyah of qoraan op schrijven en leren in de studeerkamer, huisregels op schrijven in de gang, weekmenu in de keuken, mooie quotes in de woonkamer en zo zijn er nog veel meer ideeën. Je kunt er alle kanten mee op. Het is ook leuk om cadeau te geven nu in de Ramadan of met eid. Je hebt verschillende vormen en ook verschillende maten. Ook heb je verschillende krijtjes.
