Are there any funny nicknames for any of your ocs?

Like what the other characters calls them? Well,

Pyrra calls Keiki Nooka. When she uses his actual name, he's usually in trouble. Nookas are silly little animals. Their behaviour can be summarized with the meme "the risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math". Nookas are curious and thus often end up stuck in the most bizarre places, making the witness wonder how they ever got there and why.

Hilda has had many nicknames in her life! Like Beans, Duck, Flour Puff, Bitty~

Maddie has one for Alvin, Bugs. Short for Cuddlebug. Because he is just a big cuddlebug. :3 For a short period she called him Spaghetti because she just learned that word and thought it was fancy. Plus he totally looks like one. But she grew tired of it and thought Bugs was better.

Secret rooms, the Witches Tower, and archives in Hilda

While the most recent season of Hilda undoubtedly includes libraries, as I wrote about in I Love Libraries, especially since the librarian has more screen time than in the previous season, archives and archivy themes are not as prominent as in that season. One specific mention of an archive is the screenshot shown above from the episode "The Replacement." Alvin comes as a replacement for Hilda's friend, Alfur, the Trolberg correspondent for the Elf Kingdom. He tells Alfur that his reports are the most requested and he has a big fan base. In the end, Alvin ends up giving him an eyewitness confirmation form and Alfur has a crush on Adeline from the official Delegation for the Return of Wayward Elves. There are other episodes that feature archives as well, in some similar ways to the first season.

In the episode "The Witch," written by Stephanie Simpson and Luke Pearson, Hilda and Frida travel to the library to learn about the Ahlberg family, and can't find the librarian anywhere, not even at the information desk. The book cart is stacked with books and Hilda senses that something weird is going on and senses a magical presence. They enter the special collections room, with Frida finding a slip that notes people who checked out a book in the past. This room itself has a secret room, with Frida putting it as "the secret room has a secret room." They follow this to another secret room, unlock a door, move some books, and Frida later says she is glad she is doing this with Hilda because David would have "turned back about five secret staircases ago."

They later open the doors in the last room and come across a secret hallway, and into a wide area with flying books and witches walking about. Hilda and Frida are impressed by it as the music soars, with Frida realizing they are in the Witches Tower, which was underneath the library "all along." Hilda realizes that this means that the librarian must be a witch, as she chants, looks around suspiciously, and enters a magic passageway. They follow her inside and arrive in a place where books from the library are stacked high, with the librarian confronted by three witches, who challenge her.

Anyway, I won't get into more details about this because it goes into the area of libraries more than archives, the witches do call her a "keeper of books" which is interesting since the word "keeper" is often associated with archives, as is the case with Recorded by Arizal.

We also learn that the librarian is named Kaisa, the first name of her voice actress!

In the episode "The Jorts Incident," written by Emily Brundige, Kaisa appears again. Hilda, David, and Frida are in the library, with Frida wanting to study more so she can become a better witch, with Kaisa telling Frida that the Committee of Three wants to see her at once. They travel into the inner part of the library where the Committee of Three meets, with David, terrified as always, while Hilda and Frida are comfortable. The Committee of Three says that the Tide Mice can be traced to Hilda, and they debate what to do with her, with Tildy trying to calm down the committee.

Hilariously, Alfur says it could have all be avoided if she had just "read the footnotes." Later in the episode, they all come back to the Committee of Three bringing the Tide Mice with them, and the witches, with the Committee of Three plus Tildy and Frida doing an enchantment. Even an energy beam comes out of the library as they do the disenchantment and goes into the sky, like in Independence Day, I guess. And that's all for this post. Until next week!

Hehehe ok really now! Since you didn't specify which OC/s I will present to you, a general list for them all!

Mentions of eating animals below

Coastal and Oceanic mers are omnivores. They eat fish, shellfish, kelp, plants by the shore, seagrass and such. Coastal mers are more harvesters and eat less fish and more kelp while Oceanic are hunters and eat more fish. Merry is a coastal mer so they eat lots of kelp, seagrass and shellfish. :)

Cetus and Tide are carnivores, so they eat primarily meat/fish. Tide still eats whatever, because his metabolism is higher than normal due to being very active for a Leviathan. He'll eat kelp (some kelp he'll eat just for the taste) if there's nothing else, even if he doesn't get anything out of it. Plus he just likes eating in general (hates being hungry) and is always curious to try something new (he did loot ships transporting food for some time). Cetus is much pickier. If he had a choice he'd only eat cetaceans. But alas, the humans decide his diet for him. So he has to settle with more fish and red meat (sheep, cow, pig etc) with only the occasional whale.

Alvin is a carnivore too. Nagas are opportunistic so he'll eat anything he can get hold of. Boar, moose, deer, bear, fish, cow all's good. As he currently lives on a ranch, he's guarding the rancher's animals as part of an agreement. So now he mostly eats the domesticated animals he's rationed, with the odd predator that attempts to hunt the animals he's guarding. :)

Like all Saehls, Runt is a piscivore and mainly eats fish, shellfish, octopus and crustaceans. He can eat certain vegetables and fruits/berries too (like melon, banana, blueberries, pumpkins) but the nutrients he needs comes from fish! He's very happy to have some human food too (as long as it's rice or oatmeal based and thus safe).

Elmer is an omnivore and he can eat whatever's available, like a human can. Before he was sealed, he'd hunt giant elks native to the area or any other large game. But if the hunting failed, or the winter was particularly bad, he'd eat tree bark or branches. These are things he can't really digest but it filled an achingly empty stomach. He also ate honeycombs (think the entire nest) or plucked fruit from trees.

Coby became a carnivore after being infused with alien DNA (poor thing was a vegetarian before :,)). Any and all meat is acceptable and needed to keep his instincts from taking over.

Pyrra's species eats lots of grains, fruits & vegetables, seeds & nuts, fungi, eggs and insects. Meanwhile Erzikas has a similar diet, but with more fish and less grains. Thurior eats more meat, vegetables and grains! Her species also digest lactose very well, so dairy products is a staple in their diet.

Keiki is opportunistic too and will eat any giant sea creatures like sea serpents, fish, cetaceans, crustaceans etc. He'll also eat any Titanik fruits/vegetation he can reach from the shore. And he'll also eat ocean magic currents, basically magic. Magic fuels him for a lot longer than other foods. :)

Hilda, Frida, Alfredo, Archer, dr. Pugh, Brian, Jonathan, Alice, Magdaleine, Taniel, Amelia and Samuel are all humans. So they have a human diet. Lots of variations tho as they live in different timeperiods, cultures, lifestyles and worlds. And have different allergies and intolerances. But that's just too specific to get into.

Birdie (borrower) eats whatever she can get, but she's got a sweet tooth. If she aquires a toffee then that's what she'll eat the next couple of days. Who needs the food pyramid

Tournament Two

Congratulations to Esther Sinclair for winning her mini-sudden-death round and being the first NPC to progress to Tournament Two. My inbox is open so PLEASE keep submitting. I've actually had very few submissions so far so if you have been holding out don't delay.

Submissions close at 8pm BST on the 24th of September. The new series will be posted on the 1st of October to give me more time to actually put the brackets together.

Rules:

Any NPC from any Campaign, Sidequest or One-Shot up to and including Mentopolis is allowed.

Familiars / animal companions are accepted

NPCs from this tournament CAN be sumitted. However they must have lost in ROUND ONE. For example Nurse Stitchnit who fought valiently but lost by less than 1% to Citrina Rocks. If you are unsure there is a list of eligible losers under the cut.

All sumbissions should include propaganda. This is not essential but where propaganda is not provided I have to make it up and while I try not to show bias this is much harder for NPCs I don't know / like.

Anyone can submit as many NPCs as they like, there is not a limit on how many can be submitted by a single person.

A submission of any NPC who won Round One but lost later on WILL NOT COUNT.

However, they have a chance at redemption in the Sudden Death Mini Rounds which are being uploaded throughout September. See here for more details on those
