Ingo and Emmet are perfectly in sync. They have to be, living as conjoined twins. The Subway Masters of Nimbasa City, the two are happy with their friends and family and trains.

Of course, the universe contains chaos and random chance that can affect even the closest of people. The two find themselves in situations that neither would have ever expected, and it will test them both.

Through it all, one thing is certain. Family, both blood related and chosen, will never let you be alone. And, no matter the trials, a two-car train will always continue onwards.

We're back! Well, for now, I don't actually. Know if I can stick to weekly now that my chapter stash has run out, but we'll see! :D

No warnings this week. Back to Ingo!

The Gligar Family

Gligar is a wonderfully creative mesh of ideas, combining traits of a bat with a scorpion of all things, and making a little bipedal cartoon scamp for good measure. Despite being such different animals, it’s surprising just how well the two mesh together to form Gligar. It doesn’t feel like the scorpion claws or stinger tail are pasted onto this bat design haphazardly, and I struggle to picture what Gligar would look like with normal mammalian hands.

Surprisingly, Gligar is actually a Ground/Flying type rather than the expected Poison/Flying, but I think it works just as well. Gligar seems like a desert-dwelling critter, so thus has a type to match. While it may make use of poison, it’s not a major part of its anatomy like other Poison types so is kind of a latent additional typing, like Psyduck and Golduck not actually being Psychic types.

Gligar still makes apt use of its flight and stinging tail, though, said to drop down from above and latch on to unwitting targets and stab them repeatedly with its stinger. I’m glad Gligar got a brief stint in the anime where it did this frequently to other characters as a sign of affection. Between that and its default expression always involving sticking its tongue out, there feels like quite a bit of character going on with this little bugbat.

Luckily, things only improve in Gen 4 when Gliscor is brought into the picture. It’s an excellent successor to Gligar, now featuring a more gothic color scheme of purple, black, and red, bigger batty ears and piercing yellow eyes, with even larger scorpion pincers to boot. The red bits are neat too since they seem like they could be read as Gliscor’s more fleshy body, unprotected by the purple carapace on the rest of its body. I think one of my favorite parts of Gliscor though is its new wings, now spread out behind it like an open cape. It really makes Gliscor feel like the most classically vampiric Pokemon of the entire roster, even if it really has nothing to do with gothic bloodsuckers.

Something else that I find really cool about Gliscor is its hidden ability, Poison Heal. When most Pokemon are afflicted by the Poisoned status, they take damage every turn. Gliscor, however, heals some of its HP back every turn that it’s poisoned instead! This also has the benefit of protecting Gliscor from nastier statuses, like Burn which has the side effect of cutting Attack power in half. Gliscor is such a nasty scorpion bat that being filled with toxins is actually healthy for it on average!

Perhaps it’s been pretty obvious with some of these recent Johto ‘mons, but spooky Halloween vibes are something I enjoy quite a bit, and I’ve got to say Gliscor is one of the Halloweeniest out there, without being a Ghost, Dark, Bug, or even Poison type! Scorpions have never really been associated with Halloween before, to my knowledge, but Gliscor makes an excellent case for it.

I also love that Gliscor doesn’t become some sort of menacing beast once it evolves, either. It’s still the same scamp that Gligar was, especially in the anime where it retains the somewhat timid and playful personality it had in its first form. Just look at that toothy smile! Gliscor is a fun-loving predator of the night.

Score: 5/5 - PERFECT!

Gligar completes a great trio of spooky ‘mons that received excellent evolutions in Gen 4, alongside Murkrow and Misdreavus, and Gliscor really stands out as one of my favorites in the series thanks to its creativity and unique battle prowess.

Had to abandon the second fort of this season after an invasion of a couple hundred cave swallow men, but the new one is going well. It's within view of a lovely tower in the woods. The neighbours are quiet and it would be impolite to comment on their rotting appearance and stench of death.

Also some of the survivors from the previous two forts have moved in, bringing gaity and laughter to our halls.

Clearly nothing will go wrong, and I shouldn't be concerned that nearly half the population worships Os, god of death and murder.

(On a semi-related note, an amusing glitch prevented me from making a statue of Uzol, the bugbat god of caverns, - no matter how I specified it, the sculptor would just make something completely different - so I've decided to interpret this as a commandment against portraying him).

Aster started as a regular bat, but I slowly started to turn him into a hybrid Bat/Bug called, well, a bugbat. Drawings were done back in July and September.

Alright, you know what, I have a thought for the Batbug stuff I’ve seen circulating; figure I’d give my own twist on it.

Marinette doesn’t go to Gotham, the bat (lower-case; its not Batman) comes to Paris. And it’s not Damien, cause...well, I have no idea how Damien/Marinette stuff started but I like Jason as a character more, so let’s go with him instead.

And, to deal with trying to reconcile DC bullshit with the semi-defined world of Miraculous Ladybug?

Sorry Jason, gonna steal a semi-common trope and had you get caught in range of some portal.

(Sometime in the early days of wearing the Red Hood, because comics timelines are bullshit but farther down then that does weird age things; with this I can age her up a year or three and have things scan well, but not wanting to do ‘Adult AU’.)

So, it goes like this:

Mid-Gotham underworld takeover - or at least carving out his own section - Jason accidentally damages some superscience or magical artifact wielded by some hired gun, and falls out of Gotham (and his world entirely)

Waking in ML Paris, a quick websearch reveals there’s no Gotham, no Batman, and Justice League

However, the city is home to a new ‘wave’ of superheroes, the phenomenon being a thing on that world if much more uncommon than his homeworld

So, Jason puts the skills he’s got to the test to track down some organized crime or other sketchy figure, beats some money out of them, and finds someone to forge him an identity if not outright hacking some new documents into this world’s less-advanced systems.

Then, midway through putting his helmet on and strapping on the guns, he thinks on what it means to go on a crusade of vengeance in a city that’s not Gotham, with no Bat around to prove wrong, and has a mild breakdown

(A major part of which is caused by him being seemingly stuck in another world, but ‘what to do without a cause that was driving him’ is the other major part.)

After a nebulous bit of time where he aimlessly loots organized crime - “A vigilante!″ by newspaper’s shocked explanations, but rather low-effort compared to his home’s standards - he decides to try and figure out what a normal life is.

He’s going to try and be a normal teenage boy, never murdered and never raised to fight crime and never taught to kill. Normal, damn it!

So, he applies to work at a bakery.

And thus we still have a relationship square, no there is no freedom from the square in this fandom!

Ahem.
