Got to say I'm fascinated by whatever the fuck is going on with Sam Riordan and also Black Noir. Both of these unstable Supes are hallucinating cartoonish figures: Black Noir's are the mascots of a pizza restaurant, and Sam's got a mix between Sesame Street and fucking Muppets.

And like...it's very possible the show is just doing it as a running bit, or as part of the coding: hallucinatory stuff is rendered in a different art-style than the rest of the live-action.

And even if that's all it is its fucking fascinating, but part of me thinks there's something more going on and I can't wait to see if this is the start of a whole new rabbit-hole of atrocities Vought has somehow caused in the past century.

I think something abt luffy that makes him so enchanting is that he's introduced as being very silly and goofy, and you kind of expect him to be humbled or experience the harsh reality of what being a pirate actually means (cruelty, theft, actually being a bad person etc.) and have to adjust his world view, but then fucked up things start happening and he's still silly and goofy about it and you find that he actually wasn't sheltered at all and he is just a little fucked up himself, but still happy and loving

and then its Everyone Else who has to adjust to what his idea of a pirate is bc he keeps winning and they're just like "yeah okay. whatever. I guess thats what this is in now."

Actually yeah it’s insane to me how Luffy carries Law around in Dressrosa and Law just. Lets him. Like he could easily struggle out of Luffy’s grip but nope he goes full boneless and allows Luffy to carry him like a sack of potatoes. And this isn’t a brief thing either Luffy literally lugs him around over the course of like 20 episodes and Law’s so quiet that sometimes I forget he’s even there but then I remember and I’m like OH. MY GOD?? He’s STILL draped over Luffy’s arm like a fucking coat. And it’s so fucking funny when I look over and see him with his hood up hanging over Luffy like this

rewatching one piece Again and luffy told sanji “dying isn’t how you repay kindness!” it took so much for that to sink in for sanji. he tried dying for zeff at the battle with don krieg at the baratie. he’s struck down by enel. he tried to jump in front of zoro before kuma. he sold himself to big mom. he sees his life as so worthless for too long until luffy comes to save him. he’s one of the wings of the pirate king. he’s a beloved son to a fighting cook. he is worth so much and has a home in this world and it took his whole life to figure it out. it’s insane how much luffy can heal people’s deepest traumas with his love

There's something so poetic about Ace and Luffy choosing to set sail at 17.

Of course it was a way for them to honor Sabo and his dream, but it's not just that. Turning 18 at the sea means you don't belong anywhere but the sea. You are truly free. That's why Luffy, the literal embodiment of freedom, turning 18 as a pirate is very fitting.

But it's not just Luffy. All three of them, as brothers, were free. Free from their families and their legacy, from expectations. Brothers who made every choice along the way for themselves in the name of true freedom.

Every choice... including ones leading to death. Ace chose to protect Luffy, and he died a free man. A child of the sea. A brother, not by blood, but three cups of sake.

Freedom flows through every part of Luffy's story, coursing through every important person in his life, braiding their stories into each other to form a beautiful picture. The entirety of One Piece is a love letter to freedom, an intricately layered poem.

And Luffy is in the center of it all, fighting for it.

You wanna know something funny? Luffy has three grand “titles” or epithets that he achieves/is going to achieve/is associated with throughout the series, and they are:

Captain: He’s Captain of the Straw Hat pirates, and it’s a title that has great meaning to him and to his crew.

King: He wants to be King of the Pirates. It’s his ultimate goal.

God: He is the Nika fruit user, a mythical Zoan Sun God. He either harnesses the power of one or he now is one, but he is undoubtedly now fully connected to being a God in some capacity.

You wanna know who else has the exact same journey with titles? Usopp

Captain: Along with being the self-awarded “Great Captain Usopp”, he is also technically Captain of the Usopp pirates. It’s a title they fully and openly used for him and truly believed in. It’s counted by some to be an official pirate crew.

King: Sniper King! Self awarded title, and taken seriously by both some of his crew members and the world government and, by extension, the world at large. He really is seen and referred to as a King through that.

God: His current wanted poster moniker is God Usopp. That’s what everyone actually calls him now.

With both Luffy and Usopp, “Captain” and “King” are self-awarded or officially sought after. And for both, “God” is given to them by someone else
