Now and then I have a little giggle when I recall that JJ Abrams made Rey Palpatine's grandkid via some sort of nonsensical cloning plot. It's not the worst thing in the ST but I do think it's emblematic of why it's bad. Signifier without substance. Derivative *and* gutless. Tried to rip off ESB without understanding how the Vader reveal works as a narrative beat, gave Sheev spawn, and didn't even have enough courage of their convictions to admit that he fucks.

Like we all know Vader spent two decades pining gloomily after Padmé. But Palpatine? Sheev Palpatine? The guy whose two modes are smiling smug self-satisfied secret smiles to himself and crowing POWER, UNLIMITED POWER? The guy who cackles with maniacal relish anytime he gets to let his hair down and have a lightsaber fight? That guy is a hedonist. Tell me I'm wrong. That man is at all times enjoying the hell out of being irredeemably evil. He is a literal emperor, the vastly powerful and mostly unchallenged ruler of the galaxy, reveling in a victory he spent many years plotting and scheming for. And they had to invent some half-assed narrative afterthought of a cloning program rather than simply allowing us to assume that at some point in the two+ decades between ROTS and ROTJ, that man got laid? The cowardice. The incompetence. The sheer commitment to taking every conceivable L

there's someone on ao3 straight copy-pasting my fanfic After the Sunset and changing the POV, and you know what. I can't even be mad about it.

There's honestly.... A lot more than this, even if most of it is original, this is just what stood out to me the most because like. Hey. That was my idea. The other stuff was generic ghiralink/skyward sword (even if it was my exact wording) but like.... I can't be mad, I straight up copy pasted from the game in this fic. I don't even like my own writing, but this made me feel better about it tbh. I kind of think the author is either younger or their first language isn't English, especially because for some reason Gaepora's name is Robert? In this fic?

But also if you happen across this fic don't attack them, I'd rather not say anything directly to them, I'm a little annoyed and definitely would if it was writing I liked more, but also.... Okay I will admit I was nervous going into Chalice of the Gods but I did love it

There's a good way to do cheery evil, and there's a bad way to do cheery evil, and this kind of infantilizing giggly style of it is so uncomfortable. It's a technique for maintaining a female character's sex appeal and keeping her cute despite the atrocities. It very occasionally barely works if you say they're juxtaposing childish behaviour with terrible violence specifically to creep you out with the incongruence, but when they put the character in a translucent shrink-wrapped outfit optimized to show off her boobs and midriff, it's pretty obvious that's not what they're trying to do.

And for f!Grima specifically... Man, I'm just tired. Aside from the fact that Grima and Robin have the same personalities no matter what gender you give them in Awakening and it makes no sense to change only f!Grima's personality... You took a genocidal devil dragon and you woobified it and gave it sex appeal. I'm just disappointed.

As you might have guessed, I am not tolerant of fanservice. But I am even less tolerant of it with this character specifically.

Make! Her! Scary! There are so many better ways that you can make her scary!
