"She is not." Cordie rolled her eyes. "You're just upset cause she made a go for DeShawn, but you weren't dating at the time." "Whatever." Jordie shrugged. "Still a loser to me." "Well, she's a prospect for me. Catch you later." Cordie waved as she made a beeline toward Fern.

"Hey, Fern." Cordie smiled as she approached her.

"Course were in the same first period, aren't we?"

"I know, but I'm the new girl and after Jordin called me Ferngully at your party, and it unfortunately started to stick."

"Oh, sorry bout that."

"Jordin can be kind of tough." Cordie laughed kind of nervously.

"I've gathered. But she's popular, right? And the two of you are best friends, so I guess I'm nothing by comparison."

"That's not true! Listen, I was wanting to ask if you wanted to join my debate club."

"Debate club? I think I heard my brother talking about that. He said he couldn't join though."

"Right, but I would love to have you in it. If you want to anyway."

"But I don't know anything about debate."

"That's no big deal! It's a new club. We can learn together."

"Hmm, I dunno. Is Jordie going to be in the club?" She looked hopeful the answer would be yes.

"Well, no," Cordie saw her shrink a bit, "but she could come every once in a while to cheer for us."

"Oh, hmmm, I think maybe—"

"Before you say no, come see me at today's debate."

"I'm running for class president and will be debating against Anya VanAmstel-Joy in the auditorium. Come watch. If you find my speeches convincing, join. I plan to give this club 150%. I want the Debatalions to be champions, and if you join, you'll be a champion too."

"And no one ever forgets the name of a champion." Cordie winked.

"I gotta say, you really are persuasive."

"Persausive enough to get you to join?"

"Maybe. I'll come watch the debate today. If I like what I see, I'll join."

"Amazing!" Cordie went in for a high-five.

"Don't get too excited, I haven't joined yet." Fern giggled.

Have you ever encountered a good feminist reimagining of a Shakespeare play? I just read this book (Enter the Body) where all the dead women in his plays discuss their stories in a liminal space below the stage, which sounded promising to me, but everyone talks like white tumblr feminists circa 2014, and the second half is just Ophelia’s, Juliet’s, and Cordelia’s fix-it AUs…I need to know that there’s something better out there

YES!! tamer tamed by john fletcher is a sequel to taming of the shrew that is about petruchio remarrying and being tamed by his new wife. fletcher was of course a contemporary of shakespeare’s though, so he wasn’t writing it as some significant critical response to a work embedded in the literary canon, but as a response to his (admittedly very successful) friend/colleague’s play that happens to be way less misogynistic than the original. i’ve never found a modern “feminist reimagining of shakespeare” to be good though, because no one writing those respects shakespeare enough to actually understand the texts they are attempting to reinterpret. there are of course more feminist stagings and feminist criticism, but trying to rewrite a shakespeare play to “make it feminist” is usually just an embarrassing failure.

With the morning behind her, Cordelia could finally focus on what lied ahead after school: her presidential debate.

She felt prepared, but she was still nervous about how she would be up against Anya VanAmstel-Joy. She wanted to win just as bad as her, and Anya could be intense.

Luckily with class on her heels she could dissipate out some of her nerves by focusing on taking notes.

She went to her first period class and sat next to Jordie just before the bell, but Angela Pleasant strolled in just after it.

"Ms. Pleasant, it's only the second day of school. Please don't make your lateness a habit." Mr. Brewer scolded her.

"Please," Angela scoffed. "30 seconds after the bell rings is nothing. Don't Hassel me, Mr. Brewer. My mother is on the PTA. She could have your job."

"Angela is so bad," Jordie smirked. "You know she's only doing it because she didn't make cheer squad cuts, so she's hoping I'll see her being a badass and put in a good word. How desperate."

"Desperate or not, if she doesn't stop, she'll get in trouble."

"Pfft, she'll be fine!"

"Besides, we've got more interesting things to talk about." Jordie shot her a side eye.

"You mean my debate today? I know, I'm so nervous."

"No, not that! I mean," She lowered her voice, "How'd it go with Jai yesterday? You guys talked?"

"Oh. Umm, sort of, but not really."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"It means, we started talking, but Matthew interrupted us. And then after that I ran my debate club table and we never ran into each other again."

Jordie let out a sigh. "You two are infuriating."

"Listen, Jai's taking that pass the school gave everyone in after school activities to use to watch the debate today. You should hang back after and talk to him."

"Why?"

"Because. Trust me."

"OK." Cordie said with a shrug. "Will you be there?"

"Of course not. Izzy and I are brand new recruits. We've gotta build up loyalty and whatever."

"But you just said the school—"

"I know, but this is important to me, Cord. I want to be head cheerleader one day. I can't mess that up."

"Fine." Cordie sounded a bit dejected..

Jordie, noticing her BFF shrinking a bit under the pressure, continued on, "You'll do great, babes. I'll be cheering for you in spirit. A special cheer just for you. So don't sulk."

"I'm not and I won't. Good luck at cheer practice. I'll be cheering for you too." Cordie smiled.

She'd miss Jordie being in the audience of her debate, but she knew they were at a crossroads where they'd both be into different things and thus wouldn't always be able to be there for each other. She knew she'd have to learn to be strong without her.

She was determined to be.

Who he hopes to arrest one day: is it cheating if the answer is Ainsley? Because that’s his priority right now. But honestly, Severus isn’t far down his list--just because he’s somehow convinced the Inner Circle that he was trustworthy doesn’t mean that Frank doesn’t have his doubts.

Who he won't be surprised when he has to arrest them: the obvious answer is Dorcas (and he’s surprised he hasn’t had to step in and get her out of the Auror’s offices), but it’s not like Mundungus's name hasn’t graced some of the reports he’s read. 

Who would shock him if he ever had to arrest them: this one was the easiest to answer: Gideon, because he’s a literal cupcake and would never hurt a fly. But Cordelia is also here because he kind of thinks she looks like a doll and how could anyone arrest someone like her?

I know for a fact Klaus is top tier. That’s what 1,000 years of living like that does to you. Cassidy is really letting her issues show as of late, with the way she’s acting toward Fletcher, yikes, yikes. Will and Claudia can join hands and waltz right into this club thanks to their lovely papa. With her soul back in the carcass, Cordelia is gonna be one fucking mess. Even bigger than the one she is now.
