I know the worldbuilding of the Mega Man series isn’t supposed to make sense, but I keep coming back to the castles

Okay, so Dr. Wily has a castle in each of his major appearances, right? The final stages of the game typically take place there.

The architectural style of these castles is characteristic: main body shaped like a giant human skull, towers shaped like femurs, etc. You’d never mistake them for anything else.

Further, it’s most likely a different castle in each game; this is both implied by changes in basic layout from game to game, and made explicit by the fact that each game’s ending often shows that game’s castle blowing up.

The castles stick out from their surrounding landscape in obtrusive ways, and there’s no indication that they’re in any way difficult to find or access. When the time comes to deal with Wily, Mega Man can just go there.

Wily is able to retreat to his castle immediately when threatened, which suggests that the castle is already present when the events of each game begin – yet it’s often an explicit plot point that Wily’s return is unexpected, which suggests that nobody regarded the construction of an extremely obvious giant skull castle as a warning sign.

So: if the presence of giant skull castles are not immediately regarded as a sign that Wily is back, who the fuck is building the castles?

I think a great twist for Mega Man 12 would be that Dr. Wily claims some other villain is behind the robot attacks this time, but nobody believes him because why would they, but get this: IT’S ACTUALLY NOT WILY THIS TIME.
