A Mimidae Feathursday
In the U.S., the family Mimidae includes the Northern Mockingbird, Gray Catbird, and Brown Thrasher. All are notable for the range of their vocalization and their remarkable ability to mimic a wide variety of birds and other sounds heard outdoors, hence the family name which is Latin for mimic. While southern Wisconsin is within the range of distribution for the Mockingbird and Thrasher, the Mockingbird is a rare summer resident here and the population of Brown Thrashers in Wisconsin is thought to be low, and in any event they are especially noted for being elusive, so very few people we know have ever seen one here. The Catbird, however, is quite common in our neighborhood, but unfortunately the book we chose to highlight does not include an image of one.
The images shown here are color lithographs from our 1907 edition of Bird-Life, A Guide to the Study of our Common Birds, by American ornithologist Frank M. Chapman, with illustrations by the English-Canadian-American wildlife artist Ernest Thompson Seton, published in New York by D. Appleton and Company.

Sometimes when you buy an old book — like this 1903 Color Key to North American Birds by Frank M Chapman and Chester A Reed — you end up with more than just an old book.
I asked and the seller from Alabama gave me permission to share our messages.

Song URL Game!
Thanks for the tag @deathclassic! 🥰 The last time I did this one, it was with a "no cheating" stipulation. No internet, no playlists –nothing but your noggin to come up with the song list.
I do believe I'll be doing it the same way this time, too. Let's see if my brain still works. 😜
You don't have to do it this way, btw. But I like the challenge.
***
M - My Hero by Foo Fighters
O - One Step Closer by Linkin Park
O - Only the Lonely by Roy Orbison
N - New York, New York by Frank Sinatra
L - Loose It - Eminem
I - In the End by Linkin Park
G - Gimme One Reason by Tracy Chapman
H - Hello, I Love You by The Doors
T - This Is a Call - Foo Fighters
-
I - I Would Die For You by Prince (but also the Holly Humberstone version)
N - Numb - Linkin Park
N - Never Not Gonna Dance by P!nk
***
Hahahaha! That's a random collection of songs. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Ok, I will have to tag a few on this one. No pressure, of course. 💕 @stillbeatingheart @notherenewjersey @gallavichgeek @energievie @juliakayyy @francesrose3 @michellemisfit anyone else who wants to play!

Old-Fashioned Lover Boy
by MegBookClub
Getting a job a Hogwarts was supposed to be a new start for Remus, he had promised Mary he would do good and he had promised himself he would be better. At least he would try to be better for Harry because that boy meant the world to him even though he was a stranger to him. Everything seems to be going well until Sirius escaped from Azkaban. All Remus can do is hope that Sirius doesn't ruin Harry's life as he did. When Sirius does come back, he must hope much harder that he doesn't let him in again and most definitely doesn't leave him broken again. . Fanfic follows Remus, Sirius, and Harry's relationship after the events of Prisoner of Azkaban till the very end. (Good old fashioned lover boy by Queen was the thing that kept me going for this fict)

Annual Christmas Bird Count begins around the nation
News brief The National Audubon Society kicked off its annual bird count Wednesday — a program that helps experts understand how birds respond to climate change. It was started in 1900 by ornithologist Frank M. Chapman in an effort to count birds instead of hunt them. Counts were held in 25 locations that day, and […]

Stevenson wins by the skin of his teeth and, despite the well-to-do economy, is soundly defeatedģ6. A moderate-to-conservative Democrat, Eisenhower towers over the political establishment though does nothing more for civil rightsģ5. Despite the wave of sympathy over Roosevelt's death, and the end of the war, Revercomb loses the 1948 election in a landslide to.ģ4. Revercomb, a pro-civil rights activist, is thrust into the presidency. Many blamed the stress of the war effort on his passing.ģ3. When war broke out, Roosevelt led America into war - and unfortunately died of a heart attack. Anti-lynching bills were enacted, and the push for African-American civil rights was begun. And who better to right the ship than Teddy Roosevelt, Jr. To many, the Roosevelt name is synonymous with Republican.

Facing anti-Catholics, a slowly declining economy (then full on economic depression), and a growing liberal-conservative Republican Party, Smith would be decimated by the 1929 economic collapse.ģ2. A Wrenish Feathursday
There are four, maybe five, species of wren that are found in Wisconsin, and among the most common in our area of the state are these two lovely cuties, the House Wren (Troglodytes aedon) and the Marsh Wren (Cistothorus palustris). These puffy little borbs, with their tails held high, may seem the epitome of adorable (and they are), but they are also mighty little buggers that are very territorial, assertive, and even aggressive. They are insectivorous, with the occasional spider or snail, and both species are noted for their gangster-like behavior of destroying the eggs of other birds with nests in their territory, including those of their own species. The House Wren is even known for piling sticks and garbage in other birds nests to make them unusable -- very unneighborly! Their intensity even extends to their highly insistent burbling calls -- we have watched a House Wren with such assertive calling behavior that it looked like it was going to knock itself off its perch!
House Wrens are fairly common in Milwaukee, but we only find Marsh Wrens in the marshy parts of the Milwaukee River, and usually have to travel to the nearby Cedarburg Bog or Horicon Marsh to be sure of sighting these tiny “marshy shrub-leapers,” which is the meaning of its scientific name Cistothorus palustris.
