personally i think giratina should've kicked volo's ass for dressing like that in the final battle. imagine teaming up with this guy who's gonna overthrow your dad who banished you and he pulls up dressed like him top to bottom. i would've switched sides and strike HIM down.

(Archie and Maxie, Rose, Guzma, etc. not included since they were much more mild imo.)
A more detailed list of their crimes:
RR Giovanni specifically since he's always has some kinda scheme going and seems among the most competent of the lot, extremely manipulative and charismatic, was able to force all the past villains to band together to fight off Team Rocket on Pasio (or somehow lead them in the RR storyline)
Cyrus in Platinum was really only foiled thanks to Giratina, otherwise, he was the closest to actually winning imo. Literally, what could the player have done in that situation? The Lake guardians could only balance one dragon, and while we have the Master Ball, he's the one that gave it to us in the first place. Do you think he'd really let us just chuck it at one of the Dragons? That he couldn't just warp it away or freeze it in time?
Ghetsis. Groomed his (adopted) son in order to be the perfect little puppet king, with apparent intention to dispose of him after he outlived his usefulness, first villain to actually try to murder us, possibly implied to have killed N in Ultra (I said this before: I do not like that he has N's Dragon. Not one bit!), and then he physically assaults and threatens to kill Lillie if the player doesn't stand down.
Lysandre. Attempted genocide with a WMD. His organization has strong secret police traits, even tho those aren't developed too well in the original XY games. Haven't looked at him in the same way since he executed a couple of Team Rocket grunts by boiling them alive. (That's just really gruesome for Pokémon. And then it's heavily hinted he was stalking a Team Break grunt with that same intent, just waiting for the guy to push his luck.)
SM Lusamine. Emotionally abusive and controlling to her own daughter, might strike a bit closer to home than with Ghetsis. Froze potentially dozens of Pokémon, going by those cryo tanks all over her room, and then flips out as the Motherbeast and tries to attack Lillie.
Volo. The way the game builds us having a bond with him before he reveals that he was just using us all along, and then orders Giratina to kill us all with a smile on his face was so brutal, and I never saw it coming. Adding to it, we're alone with this man with likely no one else around for miles at several points in the game, one of these being our literal most helpless moment when we've been banished and the clans can't help us under threat of war.

Giratina rant
So replaying Platinum and I picked up Legends: Arceus again, and I am in the mood to blabble about Giratina for a bit.
Spoiler warning for those who haven’t played Legends: Arceus - highly recommend it if you want more insight into Sinnoh’s lore. (I’d suggest playing DPPt first to get a feel for Gen 4, Arceus is much more enjoyable if you can pick up on the references!) Or just - spoilers for gen 4 all around, the movies, the games, you name it KJSHG
And this got dangerously long, and will most likely not make any sense skjgh get your tinfoil hats on.
So, the biggest thing about it, is that it was banished for its violence, right. So, it outright states it’s got a very destructive nature. I mean, in PLA it flat-out tore a rift in space-time to strike down Arceus, making some form of pact with Volo during the process, and it didn’t hold back in its fight against the player, either. It being violent is not a secret.
But then I think of the events of Platinum - when it interfered with Cyrus, and more specifically Cynthia’s text in Masters - where she believes Giratina to be a kind soul. Not to mention Laventon’s theory after you catch Giratina, where he states it was no match for the player - and chose to defend the world afterwards, rather than continue to destroy it.
And that makes me think - why would a creature that people see it as the definition of darkness and malice - do acts that are the opposite? Quite a few of these are in the Pokemon movies where it appears - when it helped Ash battle Zero, and help him escape the Reverse World. Or earlier in the movie, where it allowed Pikachu to sit on its horns (crown??) and even Shaymin, who was mortally scared of Giratina, grew fond of it. Not to mention it was surrounded by many Pokemon during the movie - this makes me think that, not only did they know how important Giratina’s duty is in the other world, but they feel okay enough to approach the bloody thing. If this legendary creature really was as violent as researchers describe it - or myths - then I doubt those Pokemon would be willing to step close at all.
Now, does this exactly redeem any past violent actions? Honestly I’d argue no, the damage was done - time doesn’t heal everything, and I imagine after the stories of Giratina being passed down for generations, Giratina might as well be a symbol of destruction, and few people might be willing to see its good sides. (Its certainly got the right appearance of a demon alright, the Asmodeus of Pokemon LOL)
I think its more a case of. Its heart is in the right place, but the way Giratina goes about it is where it gets conflicting. So, I imagine, in general its got a dangerously short fuse - that much was established in the dex entries. But I kind of imagine it to have a very black and white way of thinking. So, instead of seeing things that have both good and bad things - it views them as ‘you’re not a threat’ or ‘you are a minimal threat - but still a threat, and I’m not taking any chances with you’ and more often than not resorts to violent actions.
Heck, in the Sky Warrior movie, Giratina was pretty aggressive with Shaymin, even though it meant no harm and just wanted to break Dialga’s timeloop - it certainly went about it the violent way and tried to trigger it through fear.
You could argue Cyrus’ fate was a merciful one. Forever trapped in a universe with no other living being aside from him and its deity. No real sound, no sunlight, no... nothing. Like being trapped in a completely hollow terrain. His life was spared, but then the idea of being stuck in a completely different world that’s so huge, yet to hollow, is haunting to think about.
Would I call Giratina evil - definitely not. Its not a pure creature either, not by a long-shot. Its very heavily flawed and chaos follows it everywhere, it might as well be the embodiment of it. But after the events of PLA, we see it show many generous acts - if we take the movie (Giratina and the Sky Warrior) - it was very violent starting off, but after Shaymin healed it, and Ash fought alongside it - it stuck with it. It doesn’t forget kind actions. And it remembered that in the Arceus and the Jewel of Life movie, where it finally dropped its grudge with Dialga.
I think its a deity with a very rigid line of thinking, either you’re a threat or you’re not. It’s fully capable of forgiving (Dialga and Palkia after the Rise of Darkrai movie) even when it was hell-bent on fighting them, Dialga especially.
This entire post is me really stretching things like this is Mr Fantastic from the fantastic four, but - listen. I like to imagine Giratina to be a very complicated deity to understand. I don’t think it’s the pure manifestation of evil with no redeeming qualities, but I don’t think it’s a flawless, pure being either. It’s in that chaotic center - so really - I think Giratina, after PLA, does have good intentions, and does want to defend the world - but the way it goes about it is morally questionable, because, as we all know, it is violent by nature.
Now, put on a second tinfoil hat on top of the first one.
And that is what most likely earned its banishment - and that’s what might have caused it to become increasingly violent. Anger is an emotion that often comes out to defend you when you feel like you’re faced with injustice and don’t deserve this. Whatever it was, Giratina might’ve thought the destruction it caused at some point was justified or the lesser evil, done for the greater good.
Arceus didn’t see the devastation as justified at all, and thus banished one of the members of the creation trio. And Giratina became furious - because it thought it did good - it went to drastic lengths to do good. And is now being punished for what it thought was an act of sacrifice to protect the world. (what exactly this ‘destruction event’ was, idk, but if it deserves banishment it had to be nasty - you have pokemon that dissolve others with acid and drink their juices or kidnap children and those weren’t banished JKSHGD)
So this form of ‘injustice’ from Giratina’s POV, might’ve caused it to become vengeful, and increasingly more violent - and this might’ve been what led to its pact with Volo to destroy Arceus, and cause the events of PLA. Giratina, at the time, didn’t think it deserved this punishment. Perhaps only after the player in PLA defeated it, both at the Temple of Sinnoh and in Turnback Cave - it might’ve started considering that perhaps - perhaps - it was a suitable punishment after all.
And perhaps, after... maybe decades - centuries, even - of fury, grief, hatred and isolation, it did in fact, earn the title of ‘renegade’ and it was better off in its own universe - only allowed to interact with the real world under very specific circumstances. (Mostly when some form of ‘glitch’ happens between dimensions, either because of Cyrus, or Volo).
It’s a very chaotic being, both in terms of its actions and in terms of understanding it, and Giratina is aware of it - and I imagine it often struggles to understand itself.

VOLO TIME *cue piano* OK SO... I’ve been meaning to write this up for a while now - my thoughts, observations and general musings on Volo (and maybe a headcanon or two?) (please keep in mind this will be very jumbled - literally just me trying to talk about why this character has grown on me and why I love him so much now so without further ado, let’s go! also, big shoutout to @sunnyluma for helping grab most of these screenshots tyyyyyy ;-;)
((under a cut because this will be loooong))
Ah, Volo... where do I even start?  I was pretty indifferent towards him at first and the same can be said as I played through the game. I honestly thought that he was just a Legends Arceus version of Cynthia, nothing more nothing less (since, y’know he had similar looks, mannerisms and things, not to mention the whole various characters as ancestors bit). For some reason gen 4 is the gen that resonates with me the least (I’ve uh... never actually finished a gen 4 game or fought Cynthia 😬), and while I do think Cynthia is a really cool champion and character in general, I definitely don’t feel a lot of the same hype for her that others do. So that, in turn, applied to Volo for me as well. It was like a... he’s just there kind of situation. But fast forward from finishing the game to hyperfixation on submas to maybe... two months ago? Three now? I dunno, can’t remember the timeline, but what I DO remember is looking at Volo one day and being like... wow. He’s cool. I like him. More specifically, I was looking at his character design sheet at the time. And in that moment it really sank in that, wow this guy is freaking tall. 190cm? equivalent to 6′3″? What in the world. And just... something about that cocky smirk of his in his artwork, coupled with the fact that it’s right next to his goofy Arceus cosplay with that hair... He hooked me. Seriously. Look at him:
Tumblr media
(This outfit has also grown on me btw I unironically love it because look at him he’s in his Arceus cosplay and he confidently rocks it like i can’t-) Anyway part of it is probably because I love characters who have crazy or sinister expressions. They can be fun! So then I rewatched the cutscene that happens after you win against him and Giratina because I couldn’t quite recall the sequence of events that happened there and I was curious. And MAN I was shocked... I did not really remember ANY of this?? Seriously, there’s so much packed into these last few lines before he walks away (forever... sobs...). I feel like I really see a glimpse into Volo’s complexity during this whole cutscene. Or, at the very least, his insecurities. Just take the following for example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HE LOOKS SO SAD... SERIOUSLY, this particular little scene always gets to me. Like... ok. Yeah, he not too long before this ordered Giratina to strike you down to get the plates because he said he wasn’t above using force to get them from you, but it’s here where I really see a guy who’s questioning himself in this moment. It’s like he’s putting so much worth into Arceus’s view of him, he’s so convinced that he’s the chosen one because of his bloodline that when Arceus doesn’t choose him he’s lost. Confused. Surprised Pikachu face even.
I dunno... we unfortunately don’t have a lot of backstory on him, but I feel like this guy has (or feels like he has) a lot of pressure on his shoulders due to the nature of belonging to a bloodline that has pretty much since died out, save for himself and Cogita. Or maybe even that he put that pressure on himself? Which brings me to this... a scene that REALLY caught my attention when watched it again because I actually read what he says???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you follow me over on twitter, you might have seen me talk about this scene a while back - more specifically what he says in the first two screenshots. It’s honestly one of the ones that led me to look into Volo even more because seriously... Volo. Who or what hurt you. What happened. Talk to me. PLEASE...
In all seriousness though, the lack of backstory kills me because I like to imagine something tragic happened to him in the past for him to have this viewpoint. And to not only have this viewpoint but to be driven enough to make a change in the world... err... rather, just make a new one!
But. Back to the lines after you defeat him and Giratina... what stands out to me here as well is Volo’s admission and acceptance of defeat. Watching it back the first time I was honestly a little caught off guard. He really kinda humbles himself and gives you the last plate, the Spooky Plate, admitting that his journey ended when lost to you. I don’t really focus too much on the other Pokemon villains admittedly so I’m not sure if others did this, but this sequence just stuck out to me because he gives it up after being so aggressive right before this. Like before he was confident, smug, hellbent on doing everything that he could to get you out of his way, you outsider, then when he Giratina ran off he was at first angry, then confused, questioning Arceus about it all, left with burning questions that he can’t bear not knowing the answer to... It’s like this man goes through the five stages in grief all in the span of like... 30 seconds.
Seriously, this man looks tired here. Done. Defeated. He knows it’s over.
Tumblr media
He accepts it all, even if it’s just for a moment. ...Then right after that the Azure Flute forms for you and he’s right back to being an angry, petulant brat about it all... But that’s why I love him! He’s morally gray. He fights with himself, he fights with the internal emotional turmoil that he’s feeling about you being the one Arceus wants to see rather than him, about him not being good enough for Arceus to spare him even a second of its time, him thinking that he was doing something that needed to be done, rebuilding a new world free from pain and strife and other horrible things he’s had to experience, that others have no doubt experienced... (at least, this is what I see asfkldfj) And all of that, at least to me, makes him more interesting than the Volo I had first impressions of. Makes him feel more human to me. More than just “oh shoot, he’s the Cynthia ancestor who’s actually the villain instead of Cyllene!” Like... yeah. He made bad choices. He tried to use Giratina to strike you down. He wanted to subjugate Arceus and force it to create a brand new world, erasing the current one. Not a good look. I’m not trying to excuse any of that, and I’m not the best at organizing these thoughts probably, and I will admit that I also saw Volo as the manipulative, conniving guy early on because for me it was such a twist that he was the villain, so that’s what I focused on. And why he was such a great twist villain for me was because of the setup. By that, I mean you already had a well established character in Cynthia right - an all good, helpful, friendly and strong person - then you apply that to Volo and... boom. HE’S NOT THAT?? I was thinking at a certain point it was just going to be Kamado as the big bad because of the events that unfold, which is why with Volo it was EVEN BETTER because you had that sort of fake out I guess (for lack of a better term)? Kamado banishes you from Jubilife, Volo finds you in Obsidian Fieldlands and helps you, takes you to Cogita to help with the lake spirits and the Red Chain and all, you eventually hear that Kamado is going up to the temple to deal with the rift, then after those events Volo gets kinda sus at the Giratina statue riiiiight before you go up to the temple and then when you get up there... JACKET COMES OFF, OUTFIT CHANGE, etc etc. And like... I get why some people just do not like Volo and never will. I respect that. Trust me, I did NOT like Melli during the main game at all, I’ll tell you what. The little bit of background we get on him in the daybreak update was what changed my view on him, though. And for me what changed my general view on Volo were these scenes. I dunno, maybe I’m a broken record at this point, and maybe I’m a little biased now because I adore him, but I now see him as someone who maybe in the beginnings had noble intentions and just ended up going down the wrong path unfortunately.
Like... look. Right after he questions Arceus about what he’s lacking he asks this:
Tumblr media
To me, he’s doubting it all now. And like the moments I mentioned above, him questioning the grand ol’ creator what it is he’s lacking, what makes him not good enough, we see a bit of his human side. Scenes like these and scenes like when he gives you the Spooky Plate lead me to think he has a lot of insecurities hidden underneath that confident (and other times cheery and playful) demeanor. Whether it’s a burden, an expectation, his own self-imposed pressures... there’s just a smidge that we can see and so much more that could be possible if he had more story elements focused on him. (WHICH IS WHY I WANT PLA DLC SO BAD I KNOW IT’S WISHFUL THINKING BUT PLEASE) I’d also like to mention that I think it’s very very interesting that his trainer class for his last battle is “Pokemon Wielder” rather than the “Ginkgo Guild Member” class he has for his other battles. I don’t feel like “Pokemon Wielder” is negative in its connotation - rather, I’d like to think that it derives from his bloodline, the Celestica people, and the thought that perhaps they were the first tamers of Pokemon in the land of Hisui. This thought is due to the fact that he’s excited to see another person (you) who uses Pokeballs for their Pokemon (rather than the Diamond and Pearl clans whose leaders and wardens do not use Pokeballs at all - with Ingo being the (other) exception to that rule of course). That coupled with the fact that he looks genuinely disappointed that more people don’t use them (this line here):
Tumblr media
And, of course, how can I fail to mention his Pokemon team itself? Look. Really. If you know anything about me lately it is that I ADORE the idea of Volo adoring his Togepi. Which then would evolve into a Togetic through high friendship. And then into a Togekiss through use of Shiny Stone, but you get my point right? Budew into Roselia, Riolu into Lucario... Yes, I know, I know, Volo is Hisuian Cynthia so the team matches for the most part outside of H. Arcanine, and the joke about him gaslighting his Pokemon into evolving is funny on the surface, but in reality I think he genuinely loves his Pokemon. For goodness sake, there’s a photo of him and Togepi outside of the photo booth! And and and the standee that was recently announced as merch?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK AT HOW HE HOLDS LITTLE TOGEPI. YOU CANNOT TELL ME THIS MAN DOESN’T LOVE HIS EGG. LOOK AT HOW HE HOLDS EGG. EGG DAD. ...Sorry. Got a little carried away there. But yes! I think he loves his Pokemon, genuinely. Which is why it kills me when he says this:
Tumblr media
Like bro. Your Pokemon were right there in that battle. VOLO PLEASE- (ALSO JUST A QUICK MENTION ABOUT THIS LINE, it also leads me to think that he’s kinda... always been alone for the most part, outside of his Pokemon team maybe 🥺 probably more of a headcanon than anything but that’s just how I feel sdflkjsdlfkj) Alright... I think I’ve said enough at this point and it’s a mess and I’m not too sure I can ever put quite how I feel about Volo into proper words because I’m not the best at this kind of thing but... I just want to say that he’s a character that I have accelerated in love and appreciation for because he’s just... I dunno, he’s got a lot going on. And I think maybe some of that gets missed because of his ties to Cynthia and his betrayal. But I’m reaaaaaally hoping to see him again in the near future. A random house in one of the cities either in the new region or in Unova (if we get B/W remakes) will suffice 🥲 So uh... YEAH. tl;dr I think Volo is a great character with a little more under the surface than just the villain reveal twist at the end of the game and I’m rooting for him all the way. Him and Togepi (Togekiss?).
Alright. That’s all I got! Byeeeee y’all 👋

cw: angsty, Volo is being a bit creepy and manipulative but what's new, one-sided relationship (by Volo), love triangle
pairings: Cyrus/Reader, One-sided Volo/Reader
☄️ = Cyrus's ending, ⭐️ = Volo's ending
Volo had felt like a fool for centuries.
The one time a human stirred feelings within him, he had foolishly blind sided by his ambitions of claiming Arceus's power as his own so desperately that he lost you.
You opposed him fiercely. Your teams clashed at the ruined Temple of Sinnoh. Somehow, you overpowered his pokemon, which he had trained so competently. His rage swelled for but a moment as he called forth Giratina to put an end to your useless resistance to his goals. The choice of words he settled on did not reflect his true feelings.
Strike you down… That was the last thing he wanted. Volo wished you would stop going against his ideals and just let him force the deity down from its hiding to quell his curious mind and take its power as his own. Your death had no benefit to him.
Despite the strength of the Renegade pokemon, you managed to once again persevere and halt his ambitions. The legendary fled into its portal as he yelled curses and insults to both it and you. His feelings were an ocean of madness eating at his poor brain. He relented the final plate to you and watched as Arceus brazenly chose you over him.
Volo departed those ruins with a promise to see his plans to fruition, no matter the wait involved.
He had truly meant it.
Perhaps that was why Arceus had cursed him so.
It had been nearly a century and a half since he last laid eyes on you.
You had departed Hisui not long after you received the blessing of the deity to call upon it. After meeting it, your farewells had been bid to the people of the region as you decided to leave these lands and return to your own era. He had not even managed to see you leave.
Now, however, he stood in what used to be isolated cliffs and rocky terrain. It had been turned into a decent sized city in the now called region of Sinnoh. His feet carried him into the area with relative boredom. News about an organization attempting to call upon the legendary pokemon of Sinnoh to create a new world had called him here in bland curiosity.
There was not much he found enjoyment in any longer. He may have looked no older than a man in his twenties, but he was much, much older. A slight breeze moved his blond strands in its path as he stood in the street near a café. His heavy coat and brimmed cap made his face hard to see, annoyingly mistaken for his descendant a few too many times for his comfort.
It was supposed to be a relatively quick trip. Pop into Veilstone, check out this organization's building, see if any members would talk about how their plans failed, and leave. It was supposed to be easy enough.
You seemed to have a talent for spiting him, however.
Volo felt his feet come to an abrupt stop. Your clothing was entirely different from what he had observed you in during the Hisuian time period, but he could never forget your face. Before him, opposite of the street and pulling a man to a café, stood you. His heart raced. Had this been where you returned to, or was this you before having experienced the past.
The man you dragged caught his attention too, a notable resemblance to an old captain of yours, much too curious not to be acknowledged. Her descendant, almost certainly. You held his arm in your hand as you smiled brightly at him. His face was only stern at you. Volo felt envy boil inside him.
It was the way his body trembled at the sight which brought your attention on to him. Your grip on the man's arm ended as you gazed at him. Volo stared directly into your eyes. Recognition was instantaneous. You walked towards him in a trance-like state, clearly not wishing to believe it was truly him. Your partner caught on to your odd behaviour and reached a hand out to grab your shoulder.
Volo wanted to pout at how you stopped. Your attention went back to the blue-haired man. How could you fall for someone like him? His tenderness and discomfort ruminated in the open air. A whispered conversation was shared between you both, out of the blond's earshot. The man seemed even more unhappy after you finished whispering to him.
Before either of you could react, he pushed you behind him and stood in from of you. His blue eyes bore into Volo's form as he rested his hands behind his back. An obvious attempt at intimidation. Volo only rose to his full height to prove he was not even slightly threatened. The man's brows furrowed together as he closed his eyes. Your hand came to grip his arm as you peered up at him with big eyes.
Volo called out your name and forced your attention back onto him. “Who is this?” he asked, examining the stiff figure of the stranger. It was fairly obvious you both were closer than just friends. You nervously bit your lip.
“… My boyfriend, Cyrus,” you introduced him eventually, moving to stand on his side and lean into him. Cyrus opened his eyes again to glance at you and then returned a glare at him. The name instantly rung a bell in Volo's head. That was the same name as the leader of the team that had tried to use his plans but dumber. Rage boiled inside Volo at the idea that you were dating a zero charisma black hole who did his plans worse than him.
“Boyfriend?” Volo questioned, “… Pardon my memory, but I do not recall you mentioning one.” The blue-haired man stood stiffly.
You nodded your head before smiling in a gentle manner. “I saw no reason to at the time,” you explained, “But I did still consider myself to be in a relationship with Cyrus. It was simply easier to not explain it.” Volo wanted to snap at you both. He had come to love you over a century of life spent in mostly isolation, and you had been taken the whole time? Arceus was truly cruel to joust this fate onto him.
You three felt uncomfortable as pedestrians froze in their paths to observe the scene curiously. It must have seemed like some sort of lover's quarrel to outsiders. Cyrus shook his head. “... I'm still not sure that I believe your story, beloved,” he spoke to you in his quieter tone, “I am not privy to someone attempting to ruin the date you planned, however.”
You watched in terror as Cyrus tossed out his Houndoom. Volo instantly retaliated with his Lucario. A fierce battle between the two was underway in the street by two people that really should not be bringing attention to themselves. It was intense and evenly matched; Volo's wizened years against Cyrus's complete determination.
In the end… Volo came out on top.
Cyrus looked mortified at his fainted Weavile as you rushed over to check on it. He moved almost on autopilot as he called it back to its pokeball. Volo stood distressed, too, by how he was down to his last pokemon. The poor Togekiss looking worse for wear as he carefully raised a hand to console it. Both men's perceived cruelness fading when forced to witness something they care about in pain.
Volo looked at you desperately. You were the only thing he had been searching for in this current era. His plans to force the deity into his bidding paused until he could finally share words with you again. Why did you have a boyfriend? He was in denial, nearly. You moved to comfort Cyrus, but Volo grabbed your wrist. Panting breaths came from him. Your eyes met his desperate ones.
“Please,” he begged, “Speak with me.” You gazed at him in suspicion. Volo was unsure how to prove his genuineness. Dropping your shoulders, you shot a glance back to Cyrus. He ready to interfere should he be required. Team Galactic was not truthfully disbanded after all. A few grunts could easily be among the crowd.
Should you…? You let out a shallow breath. It had been a century for him since everything, even if it was not for you. On the other hand, you truly wished for the quiet domestic moment with Cyrus, an adorable Rotom themed beverage having brought you here.
Hisui was something you wanted to put behind you as you focused on helping Sinnoh in the modern day.
You…
☄️ Shook your head at Volo and pulled your wrist away from him.
You stepped towards Cyrus, finding his arm around your shoulders protectively. It was obvious he was just distressed by Volo as you were. His usually logical train of thought as he acted emotionally to compensate. The blond's eyes were wide at your choice, seeing truly how uncomfortable he made you. He knew this was entirely his fault.
Volo had threatened your life. Even if he truly did not intend to kill you, his words still had a profound effect. He had lied to you and tricked you into doing his bidding before attacking you. It was foolish of him to think he could ever try to explain himself. Had Cyrus done those things to you? He had no way to be certain. His head was hung low as he silently turned away to leave you both.
His heart ached in his chest as he departed into the rocky cliffs of the neighbouring route.
You stood close to Cyrus as he left and the crowd finally dispersed. A few remaining, obviously looking at the Galactic Boss knowingly. He shot them a glare, and they, too, left. His hand took your own as he gently brought you into the café. The quieter, relaxed ambience was a needed change.
You perked up slightly as you ordered the Rotom cookies and teas for you both. Cyrus gazed at the confections silently. They were decorated with different berry flavoured icing depending on the form. The tea steamed from its cup as you were eerily silent. He sighed. You had been so happy to drag him here earlier. His hand clenched.
Cyrus hated seeing you upset.
“… Beloved,” his voice was as soft as he could possibly make it, “Are you alright?” His hand came to grasp yours on the table. It always felt strange for him to be so… vulnerable, but for you, he always felt so unfortunately tender. You let out a shaky breath and gripped his hand tightly. He watched as you looked up at him, your eyes were red, but a smile was forced on your face.
“I'm fine,” you attempted to reassure him, “I just… never expected to see anyone from Hisui again.” His eyes broke contact from yours to look at the cookies. The tale was nearly too fantastical for him to believe. You had appeared in an unfamiliar uniform while rushing into the Galactic HQ. It was much more believable as you told him of his ancestor who established his lineage in Sinnoh which you should have otherwise been unaware of.
“I see…” He nodded. Silence came over you both again. Conversation was never a talent that came to Cyrus. Your grip remained strong on his hand. “I cannot imagine what you went through, but I am grateful you made it back here.” You laughed weakly.
“I only wanted to come back to be with you again,” you admitted quietly and gazed at him with a loving expression, “Leaving you alone after everything was the cruellest thing I could imagine. I never want to put you through that, Cy. I love you.” He felt his chest grow warm. Did you truly come back just for him? Cyrus did not know how to respond. Returning after he lied to you about his actions and forcing you to learn of them as he committed them… You should have hated him.
“I love you, too,” the words felt foreign on his tongue but were spoken earnestly, “Thank you for coming back to me…” You smiled brightly, mood seemingly lifted. Freeing his hand, you picked up one of the cookies and held it out to him.
“Well… Let's forget it for now,” the wash Rotom cookie smelling heavily of Oran berries, “Aren't they just adorable? We should have brought Rotom with us!”
Despite the lightened mood, Volo remained heavy on both your minds.
⭐️ Nodded at him and politely excused yourself to Cyrus and followed Volo into a nearby alleyway.
The crowd was gone from you both as Volo took off his hat and looked up at the sliver of blue sky that shone above you both. His brain was obviously miles away from where you both were… Or maybe just years. Where did he begin? Would you listen to what he had to say completely? He wanted to just force you away from that Cyrus and pretend he did not exist. It had been that way never even twenty minutes ago for him, after all.
“I'm sorry,” he turned his gaze to stare into your eyes, “I know how I acted was unforgivable.” You wanted to jump back at his words, clearly not expecting an apology. “I am not giving up on my goals, let my clarify,” his eyes held the same corrupted devotion as they had at the Temple of Sinnoh, “My intentions were never to kill you.” You shot a suspicious look at him.
Naturally, you would not believe him. “I was single-mindedly focused on my goals,” he explained further, “I could not stand the idea that Arceus sent another to stop me, yet I was intrigued by whom it would dare choose over me.” Volo closed his eyes. The wound was still fresh despite the time it had been first inflicted on him. “I was infatuated with you,” his heart tightened in his chest, “I… I wished to seek you out after it all, but the guards were too suspicious of me, then you left for here.” Your cheeks grew warm at his words.
Still, you turned your head to the opening of the alleyway. Volo was much too late in this confession, for both himself and you. He should have told you before, claiming that Giratina would appear at the Temple of Sinnoh. What did this man have that he lacked? Cyrus did not seem to have any appealing qualities at a glance. A stoic with an unconventional attractiveness.
“… What do you want, Volo?” you asked him plainly, eyes piercing right through him. It was a reasonable question. What did he want? For you to break up with your established boyfriend and join him in his isolated cabin in the wilderness of Sinnoh? Yes, actually, but he did not dare reply like that. But, he could start smaller, certainly. His end goal would always to be to have you in his arms. Cyrus was not worthy of someone chosen by Arceus. Only Volo was.
“A friend,” it was not entirely a lie, “I'm terribly lonely. I barely get out of my home, and when I do, it's to explore ruins and archaeological sights. I get mistaken for my descendant and have no one to confide in.” You looked at him with a gentle expression. His smile had to be forced back. Hook, line and sinker. Your guard finally dropped.
“… I… I do miss the people of Hisui,” you admitted softly, “I left them all to return here. I... I feel conflicted about that decision.” Volo placed a hand on our shoulder amicably and grinned his normal smile. Perfect.
“Then let's keep in contact,” he pulled out his old phone, “I would love to speak about the past.” You gave him your number with a nod.
You soon parter from him to rejoin the blue-haired man, who had begun to look into the alleyway to check in you. He tried to ignore his upset as Cyrus bright his arm across your shoulders to lead you away.
Patience would win him this game, he felt certain.

[The Ghostly Dragon's main event! Demons]
[A video has been uploaded to Lynda's account, do you want to watch it?]
[Lynda steps out onto the main stage for her event, the wings that were apart of the costume before are now gone, however, in the lights he looks paler than before, almost ghostly... black lines down from her eyes mimicking that of a Giratina, his eyes are completely closed...
She takes wide steps as the music begins to pick up into a low drone, Espie isn't even on her shoulders at this moment... where is he?
"Life's a pill that's hard to swallow..." He starts to sing, low and echoy and... extremely haunting, her arms open up wide palms facing up as he continues to walk forward, "All my demons scream the echos..."
Will-o-whisps begin to follow her, purple and red in color dancing as if an Infernal Parade is going on... are there white eyes in the middle of them? "And I'm cleaning blood off a bathroom wall" he steps of the stage and begins to float above the arena, not losing or gaining height- "A fractured heart and a shattered soul lays there..."
More will-o-whisps begin to dance around her, his shadow grows long and menacing, shaped like a Origin form Giratina with ghostly wings and glowing red eyes...
"Next to hers..." The shadow grows taller still, a sharp grin splitting its face as it begins to loom over Lynda.
"Are you alive or just breathing? Is it living when you're dreaming? I'll be gone..." More force is added to her voice, becoming scratchy and harsh, he starts to spin slowly, "And karma will leave a note..."
"Are you alive or just breathing? Does god know it when you're kneeling? Cuz when I'm gone..." The music begins to pick up faster, Lynda stops, in the middle of the arena now, her shadow splits into two, one still the Origin form Giratina while the other looks to have taken on the Altered form, she 'looks' up to the crowd...
"When I'm gone..." Suddenly, mist begins to steam from the stage, rapidly filling the arena and coating the ground, an Icy Wind starts to billow around Lynda, sending cold shards of ice around to glimmer and gleam in the stage light, the music is quickly picking up to something-
"I hope you can see-" Lynda's eyes open, sclera pitch black, the only thing showing that her eyes are open are the bright green glowing iris' "Ghosts."
The two shadows dive down, snatching up Lynda as two pokeballs fall from her sides, they both pop open and Draga and Espie come out, causing the mist to split as they hiss and roar at the billowing shadows holding their trainer hostage! Though keen eyes would notice that Espie didn't come out of the ball, Draga's wings had cleared the mist to show Espie was on the ground, quite the stage trick.
Espie and Draga fight side by side to save Lynda from the shadows, Shadow Balls and Dark Pulses fired at the towering darkness, Lynda dancing in the air as if being puppeted by the two ghostly shapes, stiff and sharp movements with unnatural twirls and spins, six ghostly wings are on her back now, clearly shaped like Origin form Giratina.
Espie and Draga seem to be struggling to get her back, when a Frostlass and Hisuian Typhlosion come onto the scene, the Typhlosion firing off a Infernal Parade and the Frostlass pushing the attack forward with a Blizzard, the attack strikes the shadows and Lynda drops from their hold, Espie and Draga quickly fly over to catch him together, caught by Espie's psychic and brought over onto Draga's back.
The two shadows lose their mass, revealing them to be two Gengar, nervously chuckling to themselves, helping Lynda onto the main stage, he begins to sing again, "You can take back all of my darkest days... you're the only one who's worth the pain..."
"I'm not afraid anymore..." Lynda does a small spin, "Oh I hope..."
"I hope that you can see-" Her eyes open up again, they look back to normal now, "Ghosts!~"
Him and her pokemon do a bow at the crowd, causing them to erupt into cheers and whistles.]

and omg the potential lucas being the pla protag has when it comes to going BACK to sinnoh too....he was professor rowan's assistant and he wants to go back to BEING that but sometimes he looks at professor rowan and all he sees is kamado exiling him from the village. cynthia comes around for a visit to the professor on some business or another and she turns her head a certain way and suddenly he's abruptly reminded of volo and giratina and "STRIKE HIM DOWN!"
and maybe one day someone asks him where a particular type of pokémon is because he's the Professor's Assistant and he should Know These Things and he DOES but he spent long enough in hisui that what comes out is "oh they're found in the alabaster icelands! the avalanche slopes to be exact :)" and they just stare at him like they don't know what he's talking about and they DON'T and he realizes too late that it's because he used the wrong location names but he can't think of what they're called now anymore.
not to mention!!!! his pokémon from Before (his starter, his clefairy and his kadabra from dppt) are all still as friendly as they ever were but he and his hisuian team are used to fighting for their literal lives against trainers, against pokémon, against legendaries, and his pokémon were BORN and RAISED in the wilds of hisui besides. they retain some of that wildness that pokémon in the modern day (who are ultimately used to a more balanced world between themselves and people) don't have. and with all of that it doesn't exactly make lucas come off as friendly and unintimidating anymore.
and the thing about all of it is that lucas IS in the world he was born and raised in again. he IS in his proper time. but somehow after everything he's lived through it doesn't take much for him to feel like just as much of an outsider in sinnoh as he originally felt in hisui.

Soooo…. I had an angsty idea/request. (Ignore this if asking three is to much)
Just read your snake hybrid submas where they accidentally killed their sweetie and well can we get that was snake hybrid Volo?
Like one by accident and one on purpose?
On purpose I imagine it’s mc reader during the final fight, either you don’t defeat Giratina and it strikes you down like he ordered or you do win and in a fit of anger he recalls he is a much much bigger venomous Snake hybrid with a ridiculously fast strike and just… finishes the job himself only to regret it (he had a big crush on you but was to scared of rejection and hoped it would go away, now he’s staring at the consequences of his actions as your corpse is limp on the ground and he realizes the crush is not only not going away but he’s never going to get to spend time with you again or feel so listened to or seen as you made him feel when looking at him with a small soft smiling and not mocking him for the hardships in his life or just telling him to ‘man up')
Accident I leave completely to you! Though it might be a bit more ow because you were actually in a relationship with him and already went through the redemption and forgiveness process only to get unalived because he over did it with a bite or had a tantrum about something.
Bitty
I’ll do my best! I couldn’t see him doing it on accident (that’s likely my own fixations on snakes talking) so I went with on purpose/heat of the moment, if that’s okay!

Volo is livid, his tail slams against the ground of the ruined temple. You won, you had bested him and that cowardice almighty.
How had you managed this?
How had you manage to ruin his perfect plan?
His silt eyes lock with your adrenaline filled ones.
His feelings for you got in his way, that had to be it! You ruined it all! You made him feel these…these things!
It was apart of your plan wasn’t it?
What a foolish human you are, trying to take on someone much deadlier than you can handle.
You are taking short quick breaths, hoping, and thinking it’s all over.
Your mind seemingly else where from all your panic.
You only managed to take one step back, before he sprung. Lunging at you with such rage you’ve never seen from him.
You scrambled, trying to roll out of the way. Your shriek echoes across the highlands, as you’re tackled to the ground.
You can feel his venom being pumped into your neck. You struggle against his hold, kicking, punching, clawing, anything you could think of to get him off you, but it only making him put more force into his bite.
Volo pulls away after a few long moments, his blonde hair now a curtain around you two. Those cold grey eyes glare down at you.
You could only muster a pained whimper, tears slowly pouring down your face. Your body feels heavy, like it’s made of lead, you feel numb.
The loud dose of venom is quickly shutting everything down.
Volo stares at your unmoving form, he can’t feel your heart beat anymore. He moves off of your lifeless body and slithers off.
He’s still filled with so much rage. How could you do this to him!? After all his time and effort, after all he’s done, and you didn’t hand over the plates.
He sits alone in his den, far away from the clans and village, isolating himself. His anger had died down hours ago, yet he doesn’t feel anything.
He feels cold.
Even in his sun bathing spot, he feels a chill prickling inside him.
His mind refuses to let go of the pained expression on your face, or the tears you shed.
Volo hisses at himself, thinking of you like this is foolish.
You looked so hurt and betrayed.
You shouldn’t have gotten in his way then!
The twitches you body gave, like you were desperately trying to move.
Did you want to hold him? Or continue hitting him?
The taste of your blood is still in his mouth.
It’s cooler around his den than he remembers.
Looking into the pond next to him, he realizes he’s crying.
But why? He has nothing to cry over!
You were the only person to know where his den is, so he doesn’t have to worry about you telling anyone.
He got rid of something that was in his way!
A sob escapes him before he slams a hand over his mouth.
You’d be here right now, leaning against and chatting away if he hadn’t killed you.
You’d be all snuggled up in his coils, doing your best to annoy him.
You’d be brushing his Pokémon’s fur, and making snacks for them.
He killed you with intent.
He knew what he was doing.
Why is he regretting it?
You’d be keeping him so warm right now.
Why did he kill you?
Why did he kill the one thing that gave him feeling?
Why did he kill the one person that believed in him?
You showed him compassion, and love.
And all he showed you was betrayal.
He can’t hold it back anymore.
Volo falls limp, wrapping his half half around him, coiling into a ball and hiding himself from the world.
Violent sobs wrack through his body, his cries barely muffled by his coils, echoing around his den.
How could he do something so stupid? So reckless?
He pumped your body full with as much venom as he had stored up.
Like an angry brat.
He lays there, wailing, silently pleading for you to come back.
But he knows you never will.
He ruined the chances of that ever happening.

Impact after impact swipe after swipe zap after zap Goddess is unrelenting, holding nothing back against the mew Eden flops back and forth across the battlefield, mimicking a puppy tossing a ripped stuffed animal. The mew does nothing in defense, just taking hit after hit. Screaming in agony whenever he has enough breathe to do so. After a few more bouts, Eden goes completely silent and flops onto the ground with a pathetic thud.
Tumblr media
He can barely make a noise in pain and practically in too much pain to even cry. Leaving the mew in a sniveling heap, twitching slightly and making tiny mewls in agony. Dysnomia can barely look at the sight, legs still jerking reflexively towards Eden in a attempt to get closer. To no avail. Goddess stands above Eden with a sneer. Goddess: Pathetic. You could have at least tried harder to convince me. Dysnomia’s fur rises and practically spits at the jolteon, legs jerking against the chains violently Dysnomia: WHAT DO YOU FUCKING MEAN?! HE LET YOU BEAT HIM SENSLESS FOR NEARLY 20 FUCKING MINUTES?! WHAT MORE IS THERE TO FUCKING PROVE TO YOU?! The jolteon merely gives a dismissive ear flick at the sylveon’s rage. Goddess: You expect us to believe this. What was proven? That they can take hits? They have not proven they don’t have any powers. Even a god can get beaten senseless and still have powers. As Goddess begins to approach Eden’s body, Dysnomia’s mind begins to panic, searching for some reasoning behind her words. Goddess: Not one swipe back. What has that taught me, you know how to hold back? You can’t fool me with that “pretends to be weak and takes hits”.... I wont let that happen... Not again. Dysnomia jerks violently against the chains as Goddess rolls Eden over, gaining a clean shot at his throat. Dysnomia: EDEN. TRY TO FIGHT BACK. TRY A SWIPE. ANYTHING. WE CANT PROVE YOU ARE POWERLESS UNLESS YOU TRY TO FIGHT The sylveon begins to flail violently as the chains around them begin to tighten, desperately screaming at Eden Dysnomia: EDEN TRY FUCKING ANYTHING Giratina: Goddess, I give you my blessing and power of the gods. STRIKE HIM DOWN. Dysnomia: EDEN GOD DAMMIT- Goddess’ eyes and teeth begin to glow with a unnatural light, her teeth clamp on Eden’s throat, shifting his body upwards to get a better angle

(Life-of-kalos Morana @ both) The Yveltal noticed the pair arrive and was quite intrigued. She gracefully made her way over to them in hopes of striking up conversation. "My my, you both are quite stunning if you don't mind me saying." She bows her head in greetings. "Where are my manners? My name is Morana. Might I get your names as well? Perhaps even a dance from this lovely lady?" She reaches a hand towards the palkia in anticipation.
[TW: Uncanny Valley/Body Horror Ahead]
Tumblr media
The plead from his younger sister made him chuckle. He knew what she meant, and reluctantly decided to help her out.
“Well, you are quite the smooth talker arn’t you? For a good of destruction I suppose it comes with the territory. Manipulatin your prey right into your arms is quite the impressive feat I’m sure.” Circling the yveltal, he tested the waters to see if she had any bite. Somewhere there must have been abgear to grind.
“Flattery will get you everywhere with the right people of course.” The lilt he had bordered on malicious, yet sweet like the sugar cane he so beloved. “We do look quite stunning don’t we Palkia?” The glare on her face told him to get on with it, to which he responded with a simple grin. Patience.
“And I must say you are quite the show yourself!” He apun around, eyes dancing in pure delight as he faced the fellow legend once more. “My, you are more adorned than I am, I must say I am quite jealous I didn’t have the idea for chains myself! I am quite fond of them you know. I do quite love being shackled to a singular dimension.”
Palkia could sense where this was going, her chest growing tight in anticipation as she watched on.
“Truly you are a marvel yourself. All eyes must be in you, hm?” He took a deep breath, bending down to Morana’s level. “I will say this but once. So listen clearly.”
Tumblr media
An overwhelming pressure filled the small area, threatening to break all affected. The air thick enough you could choke, shadows caving in on the sides of the vision. Palkia watched as the man’s face contorted into something twisted, his fist clutched around dripping shadows. Where his eyes were, left two gaping holes and cracks that connected to his slacking jaw. Not even his clothes stayed pristine, falling into tatters and ruin as he continued the act.
Soon however, the moment ended. The dension dissipated as quickly as the it had come, and the man walked back to his sister as if nothing had happened. Her shocked expression made him laugh, a cold and bitter laughter that did nothing to satiate her terror.
“The name is Giratina, by the by. I would hope you don’t forget it.” Holding an arm out to his sister once more, he gave her a pleasant smile. “Shall we?” He seemed pretty chuffed with himself.
