Minoan Priestess .. [1 / 2]
Archaeological Museum, Heraklion, Crete.
Shrine model in the form of a small, single-roomed house with a moveable roof topped with horns of consecration, and a door opening with a door-leaf as indicated by the holes in the jamb (the door-leaf [at left] is a modern reconstruction).
A seated female figure inside is resting her feet on a footstool, a special piece of furniture that marks her as a priestess. The model may represent a dramatised epiphany scene, with a priestess playing the part of the goddess in a theatrical-type performance. Galatas, 1700- 1650 BC
