Dazai?

Eheh Dazai

Favorite thing about them: I really like how as a character he was able to deeply touch so many people!! Seeing so many people finding relief in being able to relate to and emphasize with the character makes me happy.

Least favorite thing about them: I mean, his personality? I don't like how his many flaws are written to be interpreted as strong points / good traits for his character to the point no flaw is actually a flaw, it makes the reading experience very frustrating for me.

Favorite line:

brOTP: Mmmmhh, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about Dazai. Soukoku, probably. The Buraiha trio makes me emotional a little. Souheki, but in a very passive-aggressive, over-competitive, one-sided rivality, can't-stand-each-other way. Dazai and Kyouka. Dazai and Atsushi too I suppose, though I prefer them romantically. I think he makes for a lot of interesting dynamics with virtually all the characters, but none compells me in particular tbh.

OTP: Odazai is plain canon to me, idk what to tell you. I think they make for a beautiful, tragic love story. Get you a man who is willing to change the path of his whole life for another man just like that, nobody does it like them (actually, wait, I can think of another man... ). Although I always distantly liked them, dazatsu has grown on me like, an INSANE amount in the last few months. I'm not sure what happened. I think it was an unfortunate (lol) coincidence of growing a little fonder of Dazai and just wanting to give more space and agenda to Atsushi. Like to me a lot of what dazatsu is really is about giving Atsushi more agency and autonomy and independence and overall just respecting him as a complex, full fleshed out character. I don't see ANY kind of power imbalance in it I keep finding people talk about. Dazai pushes Atsushi to be better every day, and Atsushi does exactly the same for Dazai. Atsushi admires and respects Dazai, and Dazai admires and respects Atsushi equally. I really don't know why the ship isn't more popular and instead just gets discarded most of the time tbh. I feel like everyone should sit down a second and actually give Atsushi the dignity to choose for himself. And fyozai!!! The investment in this ship mostly goes on waves for me but despite that I firmly believe that they really make for an engaging and interesting dynamic to be interpreted romantically. The epitome of “You're both just enabling each other's mental illnesses. You're both perfect for each other. Never change. Just never involve anybody else in what you've got going on.”

nOTP: Nothing comes to my mind.

Random headcanon: Not canon related, but in modern aus I feel like he'd be one to always end up working at ceo roles and he would HATE it. He fires himself and starts working at some cheap frozen yogurt place and one month later he'll find himself as the ceo of the most important oil company of the country AGAIN without him even realizing it / despite his active efforts to avoid that. And he HATES IT. He fires himself again but the loop only repeats forever. He's just that kind of person for whom all doors open automatically.

Unpopular opinion: ............ I could be here forever. I regretfully fail to relate to a lot of characterization / readings of the character I've seen the fandom give him. I really don't want to dwell on this so I'll just mention something mostly unrelated to his characterization: I wholly can't share the take of him being physically built like??? At all??? Which got REALLY popular a few months ago. Dude feels like he never lifted a finger his whole life, I really don't know where the idea comes from???? And I personally don't take his manga visual portrayal as a telling factor for this; pretty much all the characters have the same body type, it's impossible for me to base the buff Dazai assumption on how he's drawn in the manga. Just one thing about his chracter though stop making him matchmaker for ss/kk he really isn't stop don't do it please

Small Neil Perry Rant from Dead Poets Society (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Okay before I continue this I must reiterate the fact that this has spoilers and will also involve heavy subjects such as suicide, death, and grief of said death. This also involves parental issues and possible alluded-to abuse. This will be a heavy rant.

Okay I have to say I don't understand what one of my other friends (I'll call them Friend C, Friend A being the one who said positive things, but I'll get to that) said about not getting/understanding what the end of the movie was like.

I understand that it would come as a shock for most, but... The signs were right there for Neil Perry to have at least some implied depression or something to make him so affected.

Like you see it in the first scene. Or well not the first scene but one of the first interactions that Neil has with his dad.

Most kids call their parents by "Dad" or "mom" or even "Pa" and "Ma", but you see Neil calling him "Father." Not even something less formal, he calls him father. All the time. Even whenever you see him talk to Todd later on when he finds interest in theater, you hear him call his dad by father.

Also adding onto this---You see most of the other characters, such as Meeks or as Knox say "dad" or "mom" if I recall correctly. It's been a few hours since I've seen the movie but you get what I mean.

Also, adding onto the fact that Neil outright lies to Mr. Keating about his talk with his dad? Like you know that there must've been something that made him that afraid to talk to his dad about wanting to become an actor.

Not only that but you see it. Especially so whenever his dad comes and picks him up after the show, takes him home, and tells him he's going to be sent off to Military school. That shit's NOT easy, and that's coming from someone who's had military family members confess how rough it is.

Adding onto this, you HAVE to understand the fact that you have to be in that kid's shoes and imagine what it must feel like.

You're about to lose all your friends. About to lose the one thing that made you happy. About to lose the one teacher you liked, about to basically lose everything. He's also aware of the fact that when he graduates, he's immediately being shipped off to medical school.

Which, by the way, I think everyone forgets that fact. His father was that engrossed with his own life that he was going to just send his son off to medical school as soon as he finished Welton. Like he genuinely had no say about his future or his life. I'm pretty sure if his father could, he would've found him a woman to marry. /lh

Anyway. You kinda also feel like there's no other hope left, right? Basically left alone and even if you try to cut contact, you're probably still going to have constant reminders of your father and he'll probably hunt you down, either way.

So of course your last option would probably be, as morbid as it is, to. You know. Stop the clock early.

Also, can I just say, the way everyone coped with everything is so understandable? Like oh my god.

Sure you don't see much of how they react or how they feel, mostly just seeing Todd and Charlie's reactions, but my god that's enough to see to know.

Todd's utterly broken self and puking into the snow in response to everything, while all the others have to try and distract him from blaming Neil's dad. (Which honestly, if I was one of them, I too would accuse Neil's dad to be honest)

Not only that but Charlie telling them all to back off and to stop to let Todd grieve in his own way?? My god. That shit fucking felt like a bag of bricks hitting my chest my GOD.

Also I'm bringing up my mutual Wildernezz's rant in here about the scene with the punching because oh my god. Yeah. I see why it's so underrated but I agree with every single one of those points he made. Like oh my god

Also, personal opinion: The ending where Keating goes to leave and Todd stands up, with an outburst, going "They made us sign it I'm so sorry-" was so amazingly shot. Especially the scene where they also all stand on their desks. Well not all of them but you get what I mean

Like they all clearly care so very deeply for Mr. Keating and care about how he teaches. They loved him as a teacher and you can tell with how they act.

Like.... You can just tell they adored it with his class. Like

My mind's dying (/dram) right now but I still so very much am in love with this movie and I heard they had a book they made based on this said movie and I'm so interested in reading it so I'll get back to you on that

I have almost everything that isn't just PWP beta read! I like having trusted friends in my docs, it gives me motivation to write and also I am needy and require validation while I'm writing. Beta readers make such a difference though - I can edit my own work and come up with a pretty clean copy when I don't use a beta reader - but it's always good to get fresh perspective to address any plot holes or just add that little bit extra. And also to remind me that sentences should not be 5 lines long all the time and point out when I use the same word 3 times in one paragraph 😅

Oh it's not on the list because I don't know if I'll ever go back to it, but

 I'M SORRY FOR WORDING IT LIKE THAT I played the Golden Deers, some of my favorite queer ship are with Deers and some of my favorite character are among the deers! My favorite deer ship is probably Leonie x Lysithea ( She litteraly say Leonie would make an incredible partner! Why do their support stop at B again?? ) and my otp is Hilda x Edelgard ( do not judge me I have REASONS ). And also, one of my favorite queer headcanon is trans aro-ace Claude! So I genuinely love the Deers as queers!

However, for me the deer and the diverse queer content around them is heavily a fandom thing. When I say the deer are "too straight for me", I meant it for the game directly. Like you have the Black Eagles where not only litteraly every characters is canon queer/has heavily subtext but has also its whole narrative drenched in queer metaphor! You have the Blue Lions where, while there's less "canon queer", you litteraly cannot say most of its members are straight with how heavy the subtext that's barely even subtext anymore is: there's 0 straight explanation for Felix crying more at Dimitri death than his wife, or him dying the same day as Sylvain because they can't live without each other.

But for the Deers... You have Hilda/Marianne and Claude/Lorenz as the most popular one but while their relationship are so fascinating, when you only look only at the game, they feel too platonic? Especially compared to a Dedue/Dimitri ( like a family in private. took up a post at his grave for the most of his days. BURIED BESIDE EACHOTHER ) or a Ferdinand/Hubert ( rare A+ support, with blushing, their own little surname, Ferdinand/Edelgard support changing just to mention Ferdinand drinking coffee ). Otherwise you have Leonie/Lysithea which stop at B. You have Raphael/Ignatz where they decided to just push the relationship to make their ending all about Ignatz with his sister.

Like really, the Deers manage to have less in game queer moment than the Church of Seiros, Rhea aside, of all things! We were so robbed! The rainbow house deserve better. I'm a lesbian and after all my playthrough Verdant Winds was my only route where I had to marry a man, all I wanted was a lavender wedding with Claude while I have a passionate romance with Leonie :(

To sum up: Lysithea and Leonie should kiss, Intelligent Systems are fucking cowards 

For the fandom I'll have to disagree, I think the Deers have a lot a queer content and it's amazing :] My only thing might be how Claude has become the first character you think of when talking about bi fe3h character which is kinda telling how wlw are dismissed in the general fandom, but its better than some people insisting he's totally straigh so eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

( Also I big agree on Hilda support being gem, she's such a great character and one that's much more complex than given credit for!! )

The Lions is the family where they all stick together through thick and thin, following Dimitri to hell and back, but their relationship are complexe and not always healthy ( mostly at the beginning with like Dimitri & Felix or Ingrid & Sylvain ).

The Eagles are the found family where a lot of them bitch about each other at first but they end up with deep relationship where they take care for each other and stand together against the world, even sticking together during the time skip ( also because they kinda all killed each other dad ).

The Deers are for me more like an actual close group of friend: their life are not going to revolve around each other like it does with the other houses, but they won't hesitate to come for that 5 years reunion to see the other. It's kinda like you say they're so normal in a good way! They tease each other but they don't hate each other in the way of a Dimitri/Felix, a Caspar/Petra, a Ferdinand/Hubert ( except for Lorenz but like, it's Lorenz ). They won't kill the other dad, but they'll sure as hell support each other like Lorenz and Ignatz or Marianne and Raphael. They might not start a revolution together but they will listen to the other even when it’s total heresy ( Leonie & Claude, such an incredible support :’) ) and help the other to reach their goal… I do agree with you it’s linked to not knowing each other before, but on that, isn’t knowing each other before more of a Lion thing than not knowing being a Deer thing? I don’t know, the BE are kind of a middle ground.

AA anon thank you for the long ask!! Okay I'm gonna take this point by point under the readmore!

INCREDIBLY fair and based of you, lol, I read Lysithea as gay and it's 100% because of the support conversations she has with Leonie and Hilda (which to me implies an ADORABLE crush--Lysithea seems to genuinely respect and admire Hilda which is not something you'd expect from like, a surface level reading of their characters).

I'm gonna admit my own bias here in terms of canon text endings--my favorite Lysithea ending is her paired ending with Lorenz. It really reads like a queer platonic relationship to me--I don't really get romantic vibes from either of them (gay as they are) towards each other, but the commitment and care they have for each other genuinely warms my heart. Especially the fact that like, Lorenz is SO determined to ensure Lysithea takes care of herself and the ending doesn't really imply that she dies young (only that her health is delicate/poor) in comparison to others, and she and her family get to live the quiet life they want. Of course, as an aro/ace disabled person, I think it probably hits differently for me than people who aren't just because of the fact that after the most recent time I saw their support chain/got their ending I teared up a bit (and also why I'm now adoring your trans-aro-ace Claude).

ANYWAYS, I agree IS are cowards and that's why Edelgard is the only Lord who can romance both male/female Byleth.

I probably didn't word what I meant completely lol correctly-- it's not that the Deer don't have a lot of queer content, it's just that overall, they have less content in general made for them then the Black Eagles and Blue Lions.

I do ALSO love so much of the queer content made for the Deers! The Three Houses fandom is amazing.

Okay, so I was kind of dancing around saying this to your last ask but you hit the nail on the head lol. I genuinely think the reason why the Deer might come across as less queer is because the "main ship" for them, so to speak, is the WLW pairing Hilda/Marianne.

Ironically when I think about bi fe3h characters my first thought is consistently Lindhardt?

Okay so I definitely agree with you that they're all found family, explicitly in the text lol. What I meant in my statement that they're the most found-family-esq is that you get to see the development of ALL their relationships and becoming that family together on screen.

The Lions (a mess, and I love them), are pretty heavily involved with each other at the beginning of the game. A lot of the intrigue with them is the fact that they all have backstory stuff going on with each other (save for Ashe, I think, but we kill his dad on screen so). Mercedes and Annette went to Sorcery School together, Felix/Sylvain/Dimitri/Ingrid are all childhood friends with intense complications, and the trauma and deliberate kindness that brought together Dimitri and Dedue makes me emotional.

Similarly to them, the Black Eagles all have a history with each other (save for Dorothea) as well. There's the insane and amazing devotion between Edelgard and Hubert, Lindhardt and Caspar's childhood friendship, the onesided rivalry going on between Ferdinand and Edelgard since they were kids and Hubert's judgement of Ferdinand for it. Petra and Bernadetta, technically don't have pre-established relationships with the others, but in ways that are deliberately intense. Petra is blatantly a political hostage in the Academy Era in a way that really informs her relationship with Edelgard and Hubert even before they get to know her. Additionally Bernadetta's isolation creates a kind of infamy between her and the other nobles.

The Golden Deer, on the other hand, don't really have as many intense bonds going in (and thus, in my opinion, makes it easier for Byleth to integrate amongst them as an eventual equal). There's the preestablished dynamic of Lorenz being suspicious of and wanting to best Claude, but it's a recently developed dynamic, as Claude only appeared a year ago. This would be a bigger personal issue if he was leading a house like the Blue Lions or the Black Eagles (noble heavy as they are), but it's barely an issue in the Deer and not just because of the commoners. Hilda, Lorenz, Lysithea, and Marianne are not close. In all his supports with the three of them, Lorenz is the one reaching out because of his belief that their time in the Academy should be used to form better and closer connections with other nobles. There is nothing to imply that there was any substance to their pre-existing relationships. The only two who have anything to their relationship before the game starts, are Raph and Iganatz, who haven't spoken in years, mostly due to guilt on Ignatz's behalf for what happened to Raphael's family.

So as a result, you get to see the bonds being formed and deepened with the Golden Deer from scrap. Obviously some development happens off screen during the time skip, but other than that the Deer's found family forms and develops completely on screen, which is why I think it's the most found family-esq of the three.

In fact, it's a huge part of Claude's story. It's something you don't really notice in his route, but it's really clear when you don't pick him. While Edelgard and Dimitri kind of can't function and literally can't without Byleth's support, Claude has probably the highest survivability rate when you don't choose him of any character save technically Marianne. He survives the Blue Lions route, the Black Eagles route (if you spare him), and is implied to have survived the Silver Snow route. When he doesn't have Byleth, he still survives, so not choosing him isn't as dramatic. But it's easy to see that without Byleth as a teacher, he doesn't open up enough to the Deer. Dimitri and Edelgard have assured loyalty from their houses (even Ferdie and Felix) becuase of these pre-established relationships and positions, but Claude has to earn it. That's why Hilda, despite being his vassal, is recruit-able so long as you don't choose Black Eagles (the only route where he can die). Without Byleth, although the Deer do grow close, they don't do it as quick or as closely as they do with the Professor. Claude is a character who's never been able to truly rely on others, even if they care about him, and being able to rely on Byleth allows him to open up and rely on the Deer and truly trust them. I mean, Claude's two most relied upon people in the Deer (as seen in 3Hopes when he goes against Dimitri) are Hilda and Lorenz. I don't think people talk enough about how insane it is that Claude trusts Hilda Goneril with his life, considering he's an Alymran prince.

That's also why I think the Deer are so good for Byleth. I don't think any of the other route's are bad for Byleth at all, but I think the deer provide something to Byleth that neither the Lions or the Eagles can bring to her: a single of equivalency. Byleth is only slightly older than her students in the Academy Era and is in fact younger than most of them in the War Era, and yet it's only really with the Deer that she feels like she's amongst peers (whether it be because of the commoner/noble ratio or that she's as much of a stranger to them as they are to each other.) I mean, Claude is literally the only character who doesn't call refer to her by her Profession.

Anyways, TLDR: I think they're the most found family because a huge part of the Golden Deer route is them getting to know and love each other from scratch, and being a found family is a much bigger thematic aspect for them then it is for the other two houses.

Okay, so I definitely agree with you that those things are canon queer and subtext, and that it's a shame they don't push the Raphael/Ignatz stuff and focus on Ignatz and Raph's sister (which is admittedly adorable to me).

Again, I'm aro/ace, so for me, queerness doesn't necessarily require romance as a prerequisite? Which is why I like Lorenz and Lysithea's ending, lol.

Hilda/Marianne in no way reads platonic to me, so I really disagree with you there. Hilda treats Marianne completely differently to how she treats everyone else in game. Their support chain is focused on how Hilda, who manipulates her way out of doing anything she doesn't want to, chooses to consistently over and over again do things for Marianne that she can't, and refuses to let Marianne feel bad over it. She leverages this into Marianne buying her pastries and them having a lunch date together. Their A support consists of Marianne questioning their regular dynamic of doing this and Hilda reassuring that she enjoys it so much she'd feel odd if it changed. They compliment each other to the point where Hilda starts to get a little flustered, and Hilda's even able to poke fun a little at Marianne and get Marianne to poke fun at her back. Marianne laughs at Hilda, and Hilda textually thinks it's adorable and can't even get mad at it because it's so cute. Marianne seems so genuinely happy and herself (even in negative ways!) with Hilda, and can rely on her in a way that doesn't make her feel inadequate or a burden.

I can understand as being able to view Claude/Lorenz as platonic, especially since I will never diverge from my Claude/Byleth endings, but I think they can also still be read pretty textually clear and potentially romantic. Part of this is Lorenz, who just, is very clearly gay to me? But again, part of this is the fact that a huge part of the Lorenz/Claude dynamic is them being viewed textually as equals, which is something that will and can never happen with Edelgard/Dimitri and their rival characters. Their support chain is all about getting to know and respect each other as they grow to care for one another, and while it isn't explicitly as romantic as Marianne/Hilda, I think their paired ending really speaks a lot for itself, in that Claude trusts Lorenz to be Fodlan's face of diplomacy towards Almyra. He trusts Lorenz to help him achieve his dream in the most direct way possible, something I think you can absolutely compare to his relationship with Byleth in their S-Support. Additionally about their support chain, their A-support really is about affirming to the player how close they've become, how fond they are of each other, and how neither of them can imagine the future of Fodlan without the other one in it. While there isn't a lot of direct text between Claude/Lorenz, I think there is absolutely enough subtext that you could read them romantically, especially from Lorenz's POV. The hard thing with this game is that each character needs to be able to be paired with Byleth, so they can never be textually obviously/blatantly in love with another character save for Byleth until their paired ending, and I think that absolutely holds doubly true for Lord characters, which is why I think Claude/Lorenz relies more on subtext.

I do think it's a shame that Lysithea doesn't have any A supports with women in her own house. Leonie like you mentioned is an adorable one, and I think Lysithea has a huge crush on Hilda in the ones with her, and there is definite potential in the one she has with Marianne (which in my opinion is a kinder, more gentle version of her supports with Ignatz).

I also think there's a few other support chains where there is a queer romance blossoming, they just don't get the chance to have an ending. A big one for me, personally, that I think deserved more, is Ignatz and Lorenz. I also think Leonie and Marianne's support chain was very cute, and deserved an A.

This is kind of what I was saying when I answered your last ask, I think, wherein the Deer have queer romance, but because the don't have a big blow up mlm ship (Claude is more often shipped with Dimitri + a lot of people aren't as fond of Lorenz as I think they should be lol), they kind of get sidelined as their big queer ship is WLW. And unfortunately in most fandoms, wlw ships are rarely as popular or have as much pushing force.

And also, I think, that the deer are queer without having as much romance. Their romantic pairings are far less set in store then the other two houses, I think, and part of that is because a lot of their endings read really queer platonic to me. Plus, a lot of the heavy romance lifting in the explicit text for a lot of supports tends to happen in the A/A+ region, and a several of the wlw/mlm golden deer pairings only go to B, which I think is a shame and forces them to rely more on subtext.

Additionally, because they're not the revolutionary or chivalry aligned House, a lot of their endings aren't written as...dramatically? Like I adore Felix/Sylvain to death (I have a print of them hanging next to my Claude one lol), but their childhood promise is very much the product of living in Faergus, similarly to how Hubert and Ferdinand's relationship is defined by them living in the Empire. I think because the Alliance politics are far less dramatic (or are far more dramatic in a visibly different way) the subtext for Claude and Lorenz's Romeo/Juliet for politics thing doesn't come across as huge as two characters who promised to die with each other as kids and keep it (insane I love them).

That's why in my original post I talk about loving how normal the Deer are, and I think ultimately a part of that comes from their setting: the Alliance. In my first play through, I specifically chose having my loyalties lie (in the initial meeting with the Lords) with the Alliance, because to me, someone who had no real context for the game, the Alliance was the closest thing to a democracy from what little we'd hard of each nation. Politics informs almost every aspect of the Golden Deer; sure it's played for angst and importance in the other two routes (Duscur/Sylvain's Crest Complex/Felix's problem with the chivalry system for the Blue Lions--with the latter two never being things that are textually resolved in the Kingdom's government--and Enbarr/those who Slither in the Dark for the Black Eagles), but Claude actually has to balance what other lords want in the War phase, and it's his ability to be so good at politicking that enables the Alliance to consistently remain neutral in the war. So a lot of the subtext stuff comes to fruition through the realm of politics in a way it doesn't entirely through the other two, if that makes sense. It's a huge gesture of love that Claude can trust Lorenz with his dream.

"The Deers are for me more like an actual close group of friend: their life are not going to revolve around each other like it does with the other houses, but they won't hesitate to come for that 5 years reunion to see the other. It's kinda like you say they're so normal in a good way! I both agree and disagree with what you've said here!

I think it's true, that in any route where you don't choose Byleth, the Deer are textually viewed much more as just close friends rather then found family, whereas I think if you chose their route they end up much closer (as I said above). I think the Black Eagles and Blue Lions have their lives, by nature, revolve around each other since they're literally all Nobles and thus part of the governning system of this world (with the exception of Dorothea). I think the Golden Deer have to make it a much more deliberate choice, and I do think it's something they do after the War in any route (assuming the majority of them have been allowed to live) because that sort of thing just forms a life long bond between people that's hard to shake without deliberate effort I can't imagine any of them truly wanting to put in.

They are normal! None of them hate each other! They don't have that sort of intensity, but they do have a lot of complexity that lends itself very well to found family. I think a big part of that complexity lends itself to the lack of killing (although I don't really think any of their parents deserve to be killed whether they've alive or dead?). The fact that Lorenz's dad has Claude's uncle killed (which when combined with Hilda, again, being a fucking Goneril is INSANE my man's two best friends are people who have reason to kill him for BOTH SIDES OF HIS ANCESTRY) and thus gets Raph's parents killed is something truly heartbreaking, and yet I think it's because there's no violence amongst each other or against the previous generation that characters like Claude (has had violence perpetuated against him for his heritage), Marianne (has had implied violence perpetuated against her for her crest), and Lysithea (has had violence perpetuated against her to get her second crest) are able to feel safe amongst the Deer. Violence is an intense choice, but I think lack of violence should also be viewed as something deliberate and chosen, esp. in the world of Three Houses. I mean, throughout Verdant Wind Claude is constantly complaining about the perpetuation of violence caused by the War! He's someone who deliberately chooses direct harm reduction. Although, to in fact speak of violence, I think it's absolutely insane that Hilda "I refuse to die for my friends" Goneril will willingly die for Claude "DO NOT DIE FOR MY SAKE FLEE PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU RETREAT" von Riegan's sake.

I do think that the Golden Deer are the most similar to a modern queer friend group and thus would be the easiest to make a 1:1 comparison, but again the events of the game do kind of necessitate that they are found family because they go through a war together. Their group dynamics are probably the most influenced by Byleth (Dimitri and his relationships with others while "mad" of course, aside), and it's really hard to make generalizations about them because again, the fact that she is not there to facilitate these close bonds makes it a lot harder for them to be as close as they are before the war as they end up being, although even without Byleth I still think they're exceedingly close. But yes, I agree, they do not live in each other's pockets, which does not make them any less found family, but does, probably, make them healthier in modern context lol.

(As a side note about Byleth and the house leaders: I think what she visibly provides to Edelgard and Dimitri is a lot more obvious than what she provides to Claude. She helps the both of them in maintaining themselves and not loosing themselves to the burden of leadership and trauma. Claude, however, is a character who has been handling both of those things alone, and we are shown that he is capable of handling them alone without massive cracks appearing in Three Houses. Claude does not need Byleth to live, as the other two directly do. Byleth gives Claude someone consistent and trustworthy to rely on, which opens him up to being able to do it with the other members of his house far easier then he's able to otherwise.)

Anyways! I think the Golden Deer are very queer, just more subtextually so then the Black Eagles and Blue Lions. I personally view a lot of the straight endings, so to speak, as queerplatonic (again Lorenz/Lysithea and honestly Leonie/Ignatz). Romance is a pretty easy metric to view queer storytelling through, but I don't think I'd see Sylvain as any less of a queer character if he didn't have his paired ending with Felix because of how his story is written. In a similar way, I think characters like Ignatz (wanted to be a painter, but it's not what his family wants for him; yearns to be creative and is self conscious about people thinking it'll interfere in his duties and has to learn to accept himself and his true dreams) and Marianne (sees herself as a monster that other people won't accept if they knew the true her and what she's hiding) are also queer without needing to be in romances, which is why the fandom gets a lot out of them subtextually.

Acceptance, I think, can be viewed as a very queer theme, and I think it's a prominent one within the Deer.

what are you're thoughts on rrb x ppnkg ships?

i think i touched on rowdyruff and powerpunk relationships earlier on, but mostly in a more platonic sense.

i've not really considered any of them relationship-wise and tbh i think, for my characterization of things, there might be only one i see possibly working out ?

as it stands, my headcanons for brat mean that there's no chance she's going to be in a relationship with a man. i think she'd be frenemies with brick and boomer, and the leading antagonist in their interactions.

she might be a little easier on boomer because he's berserk's best friend. simultaneously, that could be a reason for to be much harder on him too.

either way, no romance or attraction.

for brute, it's more that i don't really see her having an immediate romantic interest in anybody. as i've said before, she's somebody drawn more to what she could gain from forming connections with people - in my hc, at least - and therefore has no reason to find interest in the rowdyruff boys all that much.

that being said, i'm also super biased and i really like brututch. maybe not romantically, but i think brute definitely finds some level of attraction in butch. especially when considering that she probably views him as an accessory to butterup (somebody brute's very interested in, and would like to have leverage over in some shape or form.)

if anything, brick and boomer probably get in the way. i've already talked a bit about brute's opinions on them [here] so i'll keep it short: i don't really see brute with boomer or brick happening. or brute with any blues or reds for that matter rip

i think there are a few circumstances where brututch could become a relationship independent of buttercup, but they're mostly self-indulgent aus that i don't have reason to talk about 💔 otherwise, buttercup's prior involvement with brute is key to brute showing any kind of interest in butch - romantic, sexual, platonic, or all of the above.

brute would find appeal in how, despite popular belief, obedient he can be. in her words, as that's probably how brute would decide to contextualize butch's attempts to keep the boat from rocking when it comes to tricky situations.

for him, the chaos is only fun when he's the one orchestrating everything; his little grasps for control are both a point of intrigue and an amusing little plea for control that she can't wait to deny him. she's a bit of a sadist like that.

still imo the most plausible ship based on how i characterize them, out of all the rrb and ppnkg.

i will admit i did consider berserk with all three boys at one point when i was first trying to figure out what her vibe was.

bersick just didn't really give me any kind of entertainment (which isn't surprising, since brick in any ship has never really interested me.)

i ultimately settled on berserk and boomer as a friendship rather than a romantic ship because i felt it fit their dynamic a lot better. i've already gone into this a little bit [here] !!

in general i just don't think there's a lot of room for romance given how integral boomer is to berserk's first steps into what real friendship and support feels like. he's one of her first real friends that she starts to confide in and grow attached to. due to boomer's similarities to brat, berserk kind of sees him as a brotherly figure too. (even if it's not reciprocated.)

lastly, bersutch caught my eye very briefly. it was mostly because of my interest in blossutch, but surprisingly also because of my love for butchercup. (can you tell i have a favorite character ? /j)

no matter how i looked at it though, it felt like bersutch either just became some kind of diluted version of one ship or the other. bersutch isn't a very stimulating ship for me i guess, especially when taking into consideration the fact that i think berserk is somebody who still needs a lot of time to grow and figure herself out; butch is the same, and would probably recognize that and keep his distance - therefore no relationship.

on top of that, there's this very strange element to the ship that i'm not really sure how to describe. something about it just feels off no matter how i look at it. i can appreciate more questionable dynamics, like harmful/unhealthy relationships, being with somebody for less-than-moral reasons, being in a relationship solely to hurt one another or themselves, etc. there's a lot of 🪦🕊️ content that i've alluded to in the past that interests me.

but i'm not sure i'd even label bersutch as problematic ? it's just got this type of ,,, sense of dissolution that i'm not sure what to do with right now. maybe in future that in itself might be a reason i delve into the ship more, but for now i'm just tentatively putting it on the shelf. i don't really know what to make of it.

what makes the most sense to me is that berserk and butch end up in a platonic situation similar to boomer and buttercup: they have a very surface-level friendship that relies on a mutual to be present to save it from awkwardness. i think berserk would want to try and push butch's buttons and get bored when it doesn't work - much like brute, but lose interest rather than be encouraged to push further.

// overall ig my opinion on rrb x ppnkg is pretty bland. there's not a lot for me to say on the topic because other than brute/butch (usually in relation to buttercup/butch + brute/buttercup somehow) there's nothing of interest. most of my opinions on the ships stem from an older phase in the fandom where ppnkgs acted like homewreckers for the sake of a color-code ship coming out on top. which, while some other people's cup of tea, is not mine. i might come back to this after some thought. for now i'll just be in my corner procrastinating writing a fic please forgive more misspellings than normal im very tired

got roped into Maelstrom pretty young under ripperdoc/mechanic pretenses

hence all the headgear! Maelstrom initiation involves an optic nerve operation [x] that afaik usually involves taking both eyes. Des made a case for only losing one, citing ripperdoc superstition about organics vs cybernetics, which went over like a lead balloon but ultimately panned out under the assumption that he'd just struggle more for it

did more ripping than doc-ing if you catch my drift (famously medical-tortured and forced implants on whoever the bosses targeted, killed A Lot Of People on the table, human experimentation, wrote the Maelstrom handbook on all of the above) and had no qualms about it

like I cannot stress enough that he was Bad News <3

if it wasn't for turbulence in the upper ranks, he would've gladly kept at the job indefinitely. but he and Royce had ✨️issues✨️. namely that Des was fiercely loyal to Brick and company, and by that point he'd climbed the ranks to a level where his opinion carried quite a bit of weight

so even before Royce took over, he was all worried about the discourse Des was starting about him and his posse

but shit didn't hit the proverbial fan until after the power transfer. Royce took over and stuck one of his guys under Des to be trained (a la train your replacement), Des was severely unimpressed, eventually tried to jump ship

and got caught! and got his turn on the table! lost a couple limbs to his replacement while making sure to make clear that "this motherfucker is an embarrassment to everything I built here". was probably more upset at the disregard of his legacy than the fact that he was most likely going to die very slowly

reputation is soooo important to him you see. and "Eyes" was infamous

anyway. Dum Dum busted him out (gave him an adrenaline shot and unlocked the back door)

which led to a pretty pathetic trudge through the city until he passed out on the street, and eventually got scooped up

enter Misty "we can't just let him die" and Vik "god dammit if you say so"

cue a long, slow recovery process. realization that he can't do the ripperdoc or mechanic work he knows with only one organic arm and a royally shitty cybernetic. merc work to pay Vik back (thanks Mr. Hands, hello again). Vik wants to try to teach him that he can relearn how to Fix Things. do you see my vision?

all to say I think he's neat and I think Maelstrom was woefully underexplored in the game so I'll do it through an oc 😌 the smaller details are unnecessary but entertain me deeply. he has a funny little casual on again/off again with Dietlinde (yes the Totentanz bartender with minimal canon personality). he and Dum Dum were dumbass buddies. his sense of humor is drier than the desert. he is A Junkie. nothing he knows about mechanics or medicine or engineering was learned in a classroom and you couldn't pay him to learn that way, but he picks it all up well in a practical environment. his pride will be (kind of already was) his downfall. he says shit off the cuff that thoroughly disturbs civilized company without even realizing he did it

3. What fandoms do you write for?

it depends where the hyperfixation takes me, but it's usually going to be mostly star wars; era varies. right now, i'm actively posting for the Jedi: series games, but i also write for the kotor/swtor eras, and i did tcw fic back in the day. other fandoms i've written/posted for are doctor who, mdzs, and i poke at writing things for mass effect and dragon age from time to time, though i've never posted any of those. i've got a couple other fandoms i've dipped into for the purpose of fusions.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

oh boy. all of these are from like, 2019-2020 at LATEST, there's one on here that's from late 2017, but i wrote for a bigger fandom then and none of my good recent stuff will ever take over these spots because it's for smaller fandoms. alas. please do not take any of these as representative of my current fanon opinions XD

do you love me - this one is never leaving that spot. codywan arranged marriage fic from 2019 that is still very popular. i don't like a lot of the fanon tropes and things we used in that fic these days, but it's one of the longest finished fics i have and i can admit the plot was pretty well done. has 3394 kudos. (that's more than i remember.)

tell the world (i'm coming home) - the one where Vader defects during the events of Twilight of the Apprentice. mostly gen. has 2139 kudos

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

i used to, and i try to get to them on my smaller fics/fandoms these days, but back when i was writing big tcw fics i got in the habit of not doing it because there were so many it was hard to keep up with, so it's a mixed bag of if i do or not these days. but i see all of them, and they all bring me joy. well, most of them. the ones that don't aren't worth mentioning

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

mmmmm that's a hard one. i tend to prefer angst with a happy ending, or at least a hopeful ending, but back in, idk, 2017? i wrote a rogue one fic based off the song whiskey lullaby that was.... pretty grim, lol.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

lord i have no idea. probably the series i mentioned above that was orphaned? it had a sickeningly sweet ending involving a wedding and a kid for the main pairing, and happy endings for basically every other ship involved.

8. Do you get hate on fic?

sometimes. not often, thankfully, and usually not on AO3 itself, but back in my ffn days i got some, i've gotten a few assholes about stuff before also, and people will sometimes come at me here, but yknow, whatever. i'm used to it by now and i mostly just laugh it off and either ignore it or you get a snarky response

9. Do you write smut?

.....rarely? sometimes? i used to have a hard no policy on it, but i was also raised evangelical with a biiiig taboo on that kind of shit, so i've been slowly working through that and trying to get outside my comfort zone on it for years. i've written a couple smutty things that aren't on AO3, one that is, and i'll be involved in writing smut outtakes for one of my currently-posting series, but i don't tend to enjoy straight up pwp so it'll usually have a character reason for it, or plot. usually.

10. Do you write crossovers?

i do not write crossovers. i do deeply enjoy writing fusions (taking the characters from one franchise and dumping them into the world/plot of the other, but they've always been there). i have a clone wars hunger games au that is still my little baby and a kotor/swtor hp au that is my OTHER baby because it has involved years of work to make the hp universe....functional and not shitty and whatnot.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

not to my knowledge, though i've seen a few fics that made me squint suspiciously at them. it's definitely possible that something's been put on wattpad or something without me being made aware, but i don't actively look.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes! the very lovely @anayaghmeya has translated all of my mdzs fics into russian. none of my star wars fics have been, to my knowledge, but i do have an open permissions statement for that sort of thing, so one day it might happen

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

oh yeah, many times. my old tcw fics were cowritten with @thelavenderhimbo; i write a lot of tor era stuff with @ipreferfiction (hiiii beloved) and a little with @sith-shenanigans though none of those have been posted anywhere yet; i'm writing a spyscrapper fic with @dream-of-tanalorr right now, and senket and i are technically cowriting by virtue of posting an RP we're doing to AO3. i like cowriting; when the vibes are good, it works much better for me than doing stuff on my own. i've had it go very badly in the past, but for the most part it tends to work out well

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

i absolutely will not pick one. that being said, the only reason i found my way to fandom at all is Doctor/Rose from Doctor Who, so i feel like i owe them a shout-out for this, lol

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but probably won't?

oh, man, so many things. i really want to eventually finish all my tor-era novelization projects, but realistically those are such huge projects that with the ~mental illness~ it's gonna take a long-ass time if i ever do

16. What are your writing strengths?

these two questions are SUPER hard for me to answer because i deeply struggle with being objective about my own writing. i enjoy writing politics and political intrigue; i'm not so sure if i'm good at it, but i like it. i've been yelled at and informed i need to put "worldbuilding" and "getting deeply into characters' heads" in here as well, so i'm adding it. i like dialogue as well, i find it easier to write than other things, so that's going in here too.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

apparently. lol. ANYWAY i do tend to struggle with combat - sometimes i can really hit it well when it's a strong emotional beat, but writing action scenes that aren't really important for characterization is soooo hard for me i hate it. also, coming up with subplots.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?

it.... depends. i used to overuse it, now i rarely do; generally speaking, if it's another language entirely that the POV character understands i'll shift it to italics or some other way of conveying that, if it's one or two words scattered in the meaning should be understandable via context and i'll provide translations at the end. i only rarely use non-English words if the character can't understand what's being said.

19. First fandom that you wrote for?

the first fandom i posted fic for was Doctor Who. back when i was a kid and didn't know what fandom was or what fanfic was, i wrote a few paragraphs of a story set in the Eragon universe, lol

20. Favorite fic you've written?

i've got a couple i want to put shout outs to in here. war has let this age begin (it's where we've gone and where they've been) is my dramatization of my Revan's Mandalorian Wars and i'm still really proud of it after 2 years; it was the first solo-written longfic i'd finished in quite a while, and i'm very attached to my Revan and everything i did with it. i really like this mdzs fic, he said, son, can you play me a memory that i wrote last year. and of course in terms of recent stuff: i HAVE to mention do you taste my pain in this bloodstained place for the amount of worldbuilding and plotting davi and i have done on it - it's the spyscrapper Bad Ending villain pov fic that breaks off from canon partway through Jedi: Survivor.

Favorite character

According to my poll (checks notes) it's Rhea :D

Considering where I started with her (not liking her at all), it feels quite strange to now sit here, with an ita bag dedicated to her that features art I got made specifically for it (tiny crochet Rhea !), and a tattoo with her sword and shield and flowers. But Rhea is such a fucking fantastic character. She is what people say they want when they want a morally grey character. She's stuck between a rock and a hard place, she takes decisions that aren't clean cut, and yet.

I adore her. I adore the layers to her character, with grief and revenge and the care and softness and she's so so so good ;; she deserves so much more love than she gets

Honourable mention to Arvis in particular, who had my heart for years and years, and he is still one of my absolute favourite trashfire, but. Yes.

Second favorite character

Just because I did shout out Arvis in the last one, I'm going to avoid him. And without making a joke about the current poll about people deciding my favourite FE character...

There are a lot of candidates.

But right now, I'm feeling it, I'm going to pick Knoll. Knoll is, in the grand scheme of things, a character that means a lot more to the world of FE8 than it looks like, I feel. He was the one working with Lyon. He has knowledge of what happened behind the scene. He's a tired, depressed man who thinks about killing himself and awaited for his execution with the serenity of someone who had accepted his fate. Knoll knows the shit that Ephraim and Eirika don't, about Lyon, Vigarde, and what happens with Grado.

And I love that all of this comes in the form of a quiet, depressed man who does want to find some spark back because maybe there's a hope to let Grado live on and survive in the way Lyon wanted it to.

It's so fucking nice.

Least favorite character

It's a large franchise. There are many characters that someone might not like (that someone being me).

The character I’m most like

... I'll be honest. Luthier. Well. I'm not as much of a hard worker as Luthier. But I do feel like I am quite like him. Certainly not confident and quite awkward and making friends with cat better than with other people.

Some might say I'm endearing and I think he is in his own ways but I'm probably endearing in a similar way to him : awkward and just very, very nerdy.

Favorite pairing

I think this one is going to be coming out of left field for some people because I have not written NOR drawn them. But it's Ephinnes. Been a ship since I was a teen ! I love them ! the energy ! it's so perfect !! They have a dynamic that is just so good, without even having a damn support !!!! I Love Them !!

I have complicated feelings with some of my favourite pairings for FE, like, (carries fraldarddyd) I have Opinions on how they are depicted in general and it makes it a little weird to interact with people about the ship

Most recent is probably Rhea turning into a dragon to protect Garreg Mach when the Empire walks over to it. It means so much for her character and for the game. Like you know the gloves are coming of.

And that is when Ninian and Nils are talking about Elbert to Eliwood, telling him how he died, but actually mostly telling him how this man who didn't know them helped them so, so much, telling them stories of his home and his family, and helping them escape, and. idk. it has stuck with me all this time. Like that fucking tiny ass GBA art ?

Look. I adore Fire Emblem in general. I think it's a franchise that has many, many cool moments, some really good gameplay, and often stories and characters whom I love very much.

But Fire Emblem can only be rated on a scale from 5.5 to 9 out of 10 as a rating. Because it varies between games. And some of the highs are high and some of the lows are very low.

Sure! I'll just answer the numbers you gave me because I honestly haven't given Hayama a lot of thought and don't think I will be able to do him a lot of justice at the moment.

One reason I enjoyed reading your elaborate headcanons for him so much was basically because I have none. It's hard for me to enjoy reading about characters that I do have elaborate and fixed headcanons for... not because those headcanons are mine necessarily, it's just because my brain wants only one reality. It's the same when I find a canon-continuation fic for a story that is so satisfying I no longer want to read alternatives, in that situation I wouldn't want my own headcanons either, because then that somebody else's fic is canon to me. Sometimes I come up with the thing most satisfying to myself, and sometimes somebody else does, but in both cases my brain no longer accepts anything else. Haha... (It's not completely black and white, there are exceptions and loopholes, but I do lean this way.)

Hayama is still rather free for interpretation in my head though, and I do have plans for an Akashi-centric fic, so I am going to have to think about Hayama too, and this is certainly a good ask for that, so I will think about him now.

I have none, really. I would be inclined to assume he's straight because I don't want to write stories without straight people and the lack of female characters pretty much automatically causes most ships to be queer, so when I do ship characters it makes them queer most of the time, so if someone can be straight they most likely are in my stories, lol. However, this is not a real, fixed headcanon, so your opinions might still have time to affect mine. Remains to be seen.

16. A childhood headcanon

He probably drove his parents nuts by climbing and jumping absolutely everything, like, you couldn't get through a shopping trip with Kotaro without 20+ incidents of having to tell him to get down from that tree, or to stop playing Floor Is Lava on the street, or to stop treating the furniture section as an obstacle course.

18. How do you think they were as a kid?

I think he was a super curious explorer type of kid, who never actually got his fingers burned, so to speak, because of his superhuman abilities, so he never became as careful as most kids do pretty soon, because he didn't need to.

20. A weird headcanon

I don't know if this counts as weird, but I feel like he's one of those rare people who come really close to being exactly what it says on the tin, he's that open and honest, but he has exactly ONE little embarrassing secret that he thinks is way bigger than it actually is.

26. When do you think they were being "themselves" the most?

I guess the previous question kind of answers this already, but I think he's more honestly himself most of the time than most people are. Not that he doesn't have thoughts or feeling that are deeper than it would first seem, but he's simply not someone who spends a lot of time in his head, so what he doesn't show or say is mostly stuff he hasn't thought about.

I hope this wasn't too disappointing. I just don't know Hayama that well yet, and my process of getting to know characters is time-consuming, and I'm always looking for The One True headcanon for everything, the one that makes everything make sense and ties contradictory seeming parts from canon and sometimes even fanon together in a way that is just ultimately satisfying for me. I haven't gone through that process with Hayama. I hope it will happen when I write my Akashi fic!

Age Gap: Probably like a -2 to 1, it really depends on how it's written, I enjoy it on occasion, but I don't really search it out. My opinions are mostly neutral on it

Codependency: Probably like -4, it's fine on occasions, but most of the time I don't like reading about relationships that are unhealthily codependent, they can be obsessed with each other, but codependency is a bit far for me

Enemies to lovers: This one really depends, I'd probably say about 5 though. I love a good rivals to lovers. For me, in order for enemies to lovers to work, it has to be based in mutual respect. Like you have an enormous amount of respect for this one person that you also just cannot stand. But the respect has to be there for me to really enjoy it.

Enemies with benefits: Once again, it depends, but probably like 2, it's always fun to read, but on occasion I'll run across one where I really don't like the way this trope is written.

Fake dating/relationship: 10. This is probably one of my favorite tropes ever. Just the pining while both characters are telling themselves that they need to bury their feelings for the sake of the other one. It's perfect. Has lots of comedy and angst potential.

Found family: I love stories where a bunch of characters are thrown together into a situation and then sort of emerge as a sort of found family. Like adventure stories and things like that, every one of my non fanfiction story ideas have involved this trope. So probably 7.

Friends to lovers: 10. I've always believed that the best relationships start out as friendships. Definitely one of my favorite tropes to read. Every ship I've ever obsessed over has been a friends to lovers situation

Friends with benefits: probably like a 0, I don't really have any negative opinions on it, but it's not really particularly enticing to me.

Hurt/comfort: 10. Literally the majority of fics I have bookmarked are hurt/comfort. One of my favorite tropes ever.

Love triangle: -6, definitely not a trope I read often or look for

Mistaken/hidden identity: This one really depends on the rest of the tags whether or not I'd read it. So like either from -4 to 5. I hate misunderstandings, so as long as that doesn't get too uncomfortable, I can really enjoy this trope. It has a lot of comedic potential as long as it doesn't get too awkward

Monster fu… relationship: Most of the time it's a 10, sometimes it can get dark and I'm not a huge fan of that, but otherwise it's great. I always love stories where someone is like "loving the unlovable"... not going to look into what that might say about me

Obsession, possessiveness, etc: 6. I enjoy characters being obsessed with each other quite a bit, as long as it doesn't get too over the top.

Opposites (like grumpy x sunshine, etc): 3, it's not something that I really look for, but it can be kind rather sweet depending on how it's written

Poly: Probably 5, it's not the sort of thing I generally get attached to, so I don't generally seek it out, but when I do read it I enjoy it

Pregnancy: -7. Just not really something I enjoy reading about very much

Second chance: 8. This is a really good trope in my opinion. I think everyone deserves a second chance even if a lot of people don't get them. So it's always nice to read about a character with a normally tragic ending getting a second chance

Sex to feelings: 9. smut with feelings is my favorite kind of smut, now pair that with a lot of pining and you have a really great trope right here.

Slowburn: 10. I read through fics extremely quickly, so the longer the fic and the longer the slow burn the better in my opinion.

Soulmates: 0. Don't really have an opinion one way or another on this one and it doesn't really make me any more or less likely to click on a fic.

hello! not weird at all - a very valid question.

that said, i always feel a bit odd when people ask me for opinions about characters/canon events though, because i feel like there's always this expectation that i have a Strong Headcanon about these things, which honestly i mostly don't. i'm pretty neutral on most characters - like: yes, i have my view of them, but if someone has a different view, i'm not going to fight them, you know? i tend to bow out of conversations every time people start drilling into metas and text interpretations, because i find that everyone just seems to have much stronger thoughts than me about most things. i think there's a million ways to interpret canon, and i don't think my way is the only valid interpretation. i really don't feel that strongly about anything 🤣.

that said, from a writing/fic perspective: i guess i feel... neutral about it? i've said this before but i'll say it again: i think really good writing can sell me anything. it could sell me harry as a pirate, harry as a serial killer, harry as a god, if it wanted to, so i don't have any strong objections to anything. i'll read slash fics or fics with harry being bisexual if they're well-written. i suppose the one ship i really don't see is tomharry/harrymort - that seems very far-fetched to me, but again, i think a really good fic could potentially even sell that to me, if the characterisation work was done well.

having said that, i personally wouldn't write bisexual!harry because personally, in my own view of the text, i just don't see it, so it would be hard for me to sell it to other people. i know a lot of people will point to him calling men "handsome" all the time and label that as "basically canon", and if that's your boat, then by all means float it, but i personally think this is just JKR being a straight woman and describing people the way she sees them. also, calling someone of the same sex "handsome" doesn't make you bisexual/gay - i find women pretty all the time, but i identify as (mostly) straight, so. i think if you put a gun to my head and asked me: is "bisexual!harry canon?" i would say "no," because JKR clearly meant him as straight, and interpreting the text any differently is reaching. I appreciate that a lot of people are very #deathoftheauthor with JKR, but i am not.

that said, if you asked me: is is canon-compliant? sure, you can make a lot of things canon-compliant if you want to. you just have to build more on top of canon. there is nothing in canon that says: harry will never be attracted to a man ever, and as such, you can for sure make bisexuality canon-compliant. you just have to work on it and sell it. and, if you want to tell me that's your canon, then fine, why not? it's your interpretation and it's just as valid as mine or JKR's.

i think the way i view these things is more like: how big of a writing hurdle is it to make me believe them? so, for instance, if you were to write a hinny fic, my tolerance for mediocre writing is higher, because i already believe in that relationship. if you were to write a dramione, harmony, drarry or harry/ron fic, your writing hurdle might be a little bit higher, but i do generally think all of these relationships are within the realm of possibilities, and therefore i'll buy it if it's decently written. if you were to write harrymort or snarry, i'm like: mate, that's a Hard Sell, but sure look it, if you think you can pull it off, be my guest.

that's as far as shipping harry with canon male characters goes, though. if we're talking in the abstract, could harry be with another man? i think ... yeah. like, why not? i genuinely don't believe anyone is 100% gay or straight, i think we all sort of float somewhere on that spectrum, so maybe he could potentially meet someone he likes. again, it's probably not what JKR intended, but you can make it canon-compliant. i think it's unlikely, because i think he's probably like 90% straight, but that 10% is open. there's just other canon characters who i think are more likely to be bisexual than he is.

i also think that it's important to acknowledge that it's understandable and important that people write harry as bisexual. like, i totally understand why someone would do that. it's representativity, and openness, etc. but i also don't think changing the canon sexual orientation of canon characters (as in: giving them a different sexual orientation than the one JKR intended) is the only way that can be achieved. HP obviously lacks representativity in that area (esp in light of today's standards) but i tend to focus my diversity writing on OCs, and that's just my way to do it.

additionally, if i want to do something with canon characters, i tend to focus on the sexual orientation of characters who are a bit secondary, whose head you're not in, and for whom, thus, sexual orientation is a bit more of an open question. i think you can easily do that with ginny (in fact one of my favourite fics i've read in recent years in ginny/luna) or with people like seamus or dean, who are in the background enough that you just don't know what they think/who they're attracted to.

but again, i'm a canon-compliant writer. i'm a canon-compliant reader. if you're writing this wild AU where you're totally disregarding the canon characters and settings and just writing whatever you please, then obviously that's a different question.

Fandoms written in: mostly marvel comics bcuz i went deranged & spent most of the year reading comics. in the beginning of the year there was also still stranger things left over from the last year & a little bit of warrior nun, but otherwise there aren't really any other outstanding fandoms

What’s your own favorite story of the year?: too many (i suppose that means it was a good year lmao). some are: like real people do, so you can remember when i was so small and sweet, Unknowing (explicit), eyes full of stars, and if you're fine with that, you can me mine like that, so if you need to be mean, be mean to me (probably my overall fave this year), argumentative antithetical dream girl, you can lean on my arm as you break my heart (explicit), and i'm never gonna love again (explicit), light a cigarette, i'll watch it as it burns, mirror, mirror on the wall, felt those empty eyes look back at me, spin off your axis, but if it's all the same to you, it's the same to me, wherever you stray, i follow, like any unloved thing and the patch of grass where we buried the dog

PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION : discord for sure, mutuals can get my username thru tumblr DMs EXPERIENCE / HOW LONG ( MONTHS / YEARS? ) : roleplaying in general, about 15ish years by now? online, just short of a decade BEST EXPERIENCE : probably here? i've definitely made my closest online friends thru various tumblr rpcs, hell i've met my current boyfriend because of the tumblr rpc. out of all the fandoms tho i'd have to say the south park rpc, i've seen some takes that i'm not a fan of ngl but i personally have yet to see outright drama within the rpc, that's huge in my opinion RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS : force shipping (i don't mind unrequited plots, but once it gets to a point where it seems like my muse is constantly telling yours "no", or i keep getting asked about it, that's where i kinda draw the line), excessive callout posting (if something is posted within good reason and reliable evidence, understandable, keep the rpcs safe, but if it's ongoing drama with unreliable sources or narrators i'm out), and constant pestering for replies especially when it comes to secondary / request / low activity muses (i am slow and have muse biases! i will not apologize for this). MUSE PREFERENCES FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT : i like to say "everything i touch turns to angst" but it IS a joke. i'm a fan of well-roundedness! i love slice-of-life fluff and softer threads, i love action-packed painful angst threads, i love comedic sometimes one-liner crack threads. smut i'm not the best at, especially in para-style, i'm extremely picky over who i'll write smut with. PLOTS OR MEMES : both, both are good. i work better off the fly, my brain's pretty scattered on the norm and the ideas that pop in my head are almost never fully fleshed out (at least they don't feel fleshed out very well), so plotting can get a little hard for me. but i do like both!! especially if we can get a good plot going. LONG OR SHORT REPLIES : i mostly prefer longer replies, but as i said in the previous answer, i got bad scatterbrain most days. i take pride in any day i can get more than one reply written ngl lol BEST TIME TO WRITE : later in the day, think late afternoon to evening. typically depends on the day tho, work days get wonky because my job is fairly boring, my brain starts to wander and think about threads... ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S) : i have this thing where i only pick up muses i relate to in AT LEAST one aspect (/hj) sooooo... yeah, i think i'm like my muses. at least a little bit.
