Hi, I’m Pandy, welcome to my tumblr! I thought I’d make a little post about me and some frequently asked questions I get. Please read this before sending me an ask!

Who are you?

I’m BakaPandy, but you can call me Pandy! Pronouns are she/her/hers. I’m 27 years old and I draw for fun or whatever catches my fancy.

Where are you from?

Do you draw professionally?

No, I draw as a hobby. I work in the medical field.

(While I’m glad people are interested in what I do, I’d rather if you don’t ask me questions about it as I would like to keep my professional life private and separate from fandom)

How did you come up with your username?

I was a 11 yo weeb in the 2000s - early 2010s where everything had “baka” or “kawaii” or “sugoi”, etc. The name bakapandy stuck from way back then and has become a bit of a brand and changing it is just too much effort.

How can I support you as an artist?

I have a Ko-Fi!

ABOUT MY ART

Do you take commissions or requests?

Currently, no. Since I have limited time to draw because of school, I’d prefer to spend it drawing something that I want to draw. I do read suggestions and ideas if they end up in my inbox but I can not promise that I will draw it.

Where did you learn to draw?

I’m self-taught. Lots and lots of admiring other people’s work and practicing a ton.

When did you start drawing/How long have you been drawing?

I’ve loved to draw all my life, but I got invested when I was about 10 when I truly dedicated time and effort into improving. So I guess it’s going on 17 years now.

What do you use to draw?

I use an 11in iPad pro, apple pencil, and Clip Studio Paint iOS

I’ve previously used a Wacom intuos, but switched over to the ipad pretty much exclusively a couple years ago

Can I use your art for my profile pic?

You can use my art for icons, phone and desktop wallpapers for YOUR OWN USE ONLY without asking me, though I’d really appreciate if you’d credit me if you use it in a public domain.

Can I share your artwork on other sites?

No, please don’t repost my artwork anywhere else. You can always link to my blog or the page of the drawing (if there’s a thumbnail involved that automatically generated, then that’s fine), BUT PLEASE DON’T RE-UPLOAD ANYTHING. Honestly, I don’t know. I loved Free! and SouRin for so long but my creative energy for them fizzled out and I just don’t have anymore ideas...maybe when I finally see Final Stroke, I’ll make something?

Who are your favorite Naruto characters?

In case you couldn’t tell from my art content, I love the Sand-Nara family. Gaara has always been my favorite since I was in middle school.

Who do you ship with Gaara?

No one. I headcanon him as aro/ace.

What do you think about Gaara ships?

They’re not my cup of tea but people can ship what they want. Go live your best lives.

What about Boruto ships?

I don’t ship the kids. I just like them all being cute and friends.

Recently, though, I got into Konohamaru X Log lmao.

Please note that Log is an adult and I consider him separate person to Mitsuki. I do not ship or endorse KonoM*itsu in any way, shape, or form. They are not the same people and have entirely different personalities.

Do you have ANY ships in Naruto?

Pretty much only ShikaTema is the one I’m the most invested in. I follow along with the canon ships (e.g. NaruHina, SasuSaku, ChoKarui) but I have no particularly strong feelings for or against them.

Other ships I enjoy in passing: KakaGai, NejiTen, SaiIno, NejiLee

Do you have a Naruto OC?

I have one OC and her name is Kotori, and she’s Shinki’s daughter haha. She’s a joint OC with my friend @bichobolitagaarashusband

Usually though, I prefer to stick to canon characters, relationships, and dynamics

Do you not like Naruto OCs?

They typically don’t really interest me so I don’t really engage with them. But people can do what they want and I’m not going to criticize them for it. I have Kotori and tbh I really only interact with one OC mostly bc he belongs to my friend haha

A canon ace character!!! (Happy Belated Ace Awareness day)

Ay yo! For a late Asexual awareness day I thought I would bring to light a canon aromantic My Hero Academia character that is never actually brought up. The aro queen is none other than... (drum roll please)

MINA ASHIDO!!!!!!!

Because I'm a huge MHA nerd I was looking at the stats for different characters and random trivia about them and heard about the "BNHA Ultra Analysis Character Book 2." Since I couldn't buy it I just went about looking for any facts people might have written about it (especially since it wasn't translated into English at the time) and lo and behold I found this twitter page: https://twitter.com/i/events/1180132297258881028

that translates most of the book (I highly suggest reading this if you like MHA that's a lot of great minor and major things in it. Beware for the anime onlys.) But the thing I wanna highlight is this fact:-

At the time when i researched this I didn't know/understand what asexuality was (Haha poor judgement on my part cause it turned out I was ace. Oops~) but now I know Mina is Cupioromantic which is described as the orientation of people who do not experience romantic attraction but still not desire a romantic relationship of some sort.

Since my Hibari post was pretty well received in regards to people feeling fucking relieved, here are other tropes I’ve seen in KHR that aren’t great. This isn’t stuff like “don’t make Yamamoto’s dad gay lol” they’re genuinely harmful hcs that the fandom likely never took into consideration with how small it is, and how early 2000s was a really different time.

Ace/aro Hibari

Starting off with elaborating on the aforementioned Hibari post. Hibari in canon is a cold, quiet character who hates being associated with other people. Headcanoning him as ace/aro based off this personality is playing off stereotypes that have been really common for ace people, that they don’t know how to love anyone and are cold and mean. People in the fandom seem to do this a lot because they cannot fathom him being in any type of relationship, platonic or romantic or otherwise. That’s bad reasoning yo. Otherwise ace/aro people themselves can hc this because they are aware of the stereotypes of their group and know the nuances of living with this experience, and likely have other reasons for this headcanon. They sure as fuck don’t think they’re “unable to love” and do have meaningful relationships.

Note: Non ace/aro people aren’t barred from having ace/aro headcanons in general, don’t take this the wrong way. It’s just very common in Hibari himself and characters like him, and it’s wrong to do that based off personality. If you wouldn’t make every gay oc flamboyant, don’t do this either.

Sex addict Lussuria/Keeping the necrophilia aspect of him

Lussuria is a pretty endearing character late canon but he’s clearly a gay stereotype. It’s absolutely fine to still like him, and my friends and I really enjoy writing him! But there’s still ehhh things that I’ve seen happen a lot that makes it seem like the writers aren’t well equipped to write him.

First of all, he’s presented as a predatory, very sexual gay man who is a necrophiliac. Making gay characters extremely sexual is already a stereotype and the necrohphilia aspect was put in for shock value, cause it literally never comes up again. It just seems really in poor taste that someone would make the conscious decision of keeping these personality traits and write him... worse? Instead of doing what headcanons are for and making him a more fleshed out character.

His depictions just really cross a line when writers make his only personality traits sexual and flamboyant. And still make him a necrophiliac, which was meant to further insult him as a stereotype. It’s also just weird idk why you wanna keep that in a character you like. Just write him like a normal, flirty dude who thinks murder is ok like the rest of the Varia.

Racism with Fon and sometimes Gokudera—mostly applies to Fon

Jesus christ I’ve seen this so much and like, are people aware of what they’re doing? Oriental is a slur, period. Do not use that word. Don’t describe his martial arts as a “strange dance” and don’t call any quality of him “exotic.” It’s genuinely disgusting, fetishistic, and racist. No questions asked. I can’t even believe I’ve seen people describe his eyes as slanted. Don’t do it.

Some people also just add racism as a side plot for Gokudera. If you’re doing this for angst and without any knowledge of racism against Japanese people, just take it out. I know his Secret Bullet had a few moments of racism in it just cause he is a mixed character living in a white country but do not make it a focus if you’re not equipped to write it.

Are you kidding? Will Byers is so obviously, blatantly gay coded and every gay person I know incl me related deeply with his struggles as a kid, since gay kids especially are often ""late bloomers"" cause of (internalized) homophobia. But I guess you are too tone deaf to see how headcanoning a gay coded *kid* character as aroace could be insensitive since you wrote an entire ass fic about one of the few canon lesbians being aroace

Why is it so hard to see that a lot of experiences for aroace (or aro or ace separately) people overlap with experiences of gay people?

Being seen as a ‘late-bloomer’ is one of those things. Not being interested in the opposite sex is too.

Why can’t both headcanons just live in peace together? Neither is wrong. Besides, he could be gay and ace. Or gay and aro. As long as nothing is canonically confirmed, it’s up the audience’s interpretation and therefore there’s not one wrong interpretation. For all we know, he won’t figure himself out for years to come....

Now onto the other accusation you make.

If you’ve read any of my fics, you know I’ve also written a whole lot about not-canon-lesbian (and very much attempted to make look as straight as possible by canon) characters being lesbian (or bi or pan).

And if you don’t like something I write, feel free to not read it. There’s a big red X in the corner of your screen (or a grey/black one or whatever when you’re on your phone) for you to use. That’s the beauty of fanfiction.

I didn’t write the Alex aroace fics to say ‘yo, I disagree with Alex being a lesbian’. Because I don’t. I think it’s great such a mainstream show as supergirl has had such an extensive coming out story arc.

I wrote this story because my heart went ‘kin!!!’ upon seeing Alex in season 1. And there’s really no character in the series that’s not explicitly feeling romantic and/or sexual attraction. (I mean, Kara’s entire arc in season 1 was how in love she was with James. Winn’s was about how he was in love with Kara. James had Lucy and Kara both...)

And if I want to write a fic about a character being aroace, I pick the character that best suits it. The character that feels right for me.

Could you name one (1) character who is aroace in canon. And confirmed. In mainstream media? (And no, that completely emotionless villain doesn’t count because that’s not representation and you know it.)

Well, I can’t.

And if you’re gay, you know representation matters. That holds true for people who aren’t gay or lesbians or bi too. It’s why it’s so great they have Nia on the show now.

But there’s a big lack of representation and if only ‘straight’ characters are fair to headcanon as aroace, then there’s nothing left because there’s no way to relate to those characters when they’re always falling in love or ending up in someone else’s bed. Not for me at least.

So my fic isn’t to say ‘Alex cannot be a lesbian and I disagree with that’. It’s written for me. To deal with feelings and doubts and emotions and issues I have. It’s posted online so others like me can read it and hopefully relate to it. Feel less alone.

It’s not online so people who don’t like it can come at me for it. Because that’s what that huge red X is for. To not have to read it.

And it’s not my fault so many people online (because let’s be real, offline lgbtq+ people are a lot more accepting) have a problem with aromantic, asexual and aroace characters.

We can all share, you know. And I agree that it shouldn’t be necessary but as long as there’s such a lack of representation, we’ll have to and it’s best if we all try to understand each other and play nice.

Because experiences are different for everyone but can still overlap for different identities and we should all accept and support each other. Not go at each other’s throat. The community is for everyone and so are fictional characters.

STRAP YOURSELVES IN, KIDDOS. THIS IS A FUCKING ESSAY RIGHT HERE.

Ace Attorney:

Favorite Male Character: Miles Edgeworth. Shi-Long Lang is great as well. I also have a soft spot for Klavier, Sebastian and Apollo. And, naturally, my space son, Clay Terran.

Favorite Female Character: Kay Faraday!! Props also go to Mia Fey and Trucy Wright, as well as Athena and Jinxie.

Favorite Het Ship: Farabeste (Sebastian/Kay). Cykesquill as well, but I’m very specific about how and when I like it...like, ridiculously specific. Diego/Mia is good as well. For something more ridiculous that I think would be fun, Clay and Athena could have had a great dynamic. Maybe even Clay and Jinxie, if we go out and be totally wild.

Favorite Slash Ship (both M/M and F/F): Klapollo, Langworth, Nahyuta/Simon. Vera/Trucy, lady Cykesquill, Robin/Myriam and Athena/Juniper for the ladies.

Least Favorite Male Character: how to I condense the list of the bastards? Kristoph is evil, but I cannot deny he had charm as a character - he’s terrifying, but fascinating, so I cannot name him as my least favourite. I think I’ll go with either von Karma or Blaze Debeste. They’re responsible for so much misery, and they don’t have any tragic reasons for being the way they are.

Least Favorite Female Character: Ma//ya Fe//y. I know the reasons people have for liking her, and I can forgive some flaws in writing, but she simply has too many of them. I know she is a courageous girl who ultimately wishes to do good, but the way she acts, especially in the first two games... just make me go ‘hmmmm’. Honestly, my favourite games in the series are those where I don’t get to see her. Young Pearl is also very low down on the list, and she was my least favourite for a long while, but her teenage years made me soften up to her, she’s pretty great in DD.

Least Favorite Het Ship: anything that encourages abuse, like Grant/Lana? Why would you do this? Also, I’m not fond of Athena/Apollo or Juniper/Apollo. Apollo is far too gay in my eyes to ever be together with a girl. Phoenix/Maya is another one I dislike.

Least Favorite Slash Ship (both M/M and F/F): same rule as above applies. Aside from those, I... don’t have many slash ships I actively dislike, surprisingly? My main one would be Wri//ght//wor//th, since, in my opinion, it’s very overhyped, and I cannot turn around in this fandom without seeing it, but even that is mostly just...annoyance.

Dirty Little Secret: I haven’t forgotten about my dumbass theory. I’m just...really fucking slow.

Headcanon(s): this will need to be answered in its own separate asks. I have headcanons for everyone. For now, though - Jinxie Tenma is a Fey.

Unpopular Opinion(s): I like Gyakuten Kenji far more than the original games. In general, games with a protag that’s not Phoenix and newer games in the series I tend to like more. Not to imply that the original trilogy was bad or anything, but... Edgeworth is far more solid as a protagonist, not only because his side was relatively unexplored, but because his investigation methods were so much more sensible. Phoenix has this ‘wing it’ approach, which works fine, until you see past it. When you see past it, the tension build-up it tries to pull fails massively, and you just get annoyed by Phoenix never thinking ahead for anything, or being oblivious. With Edgeworth, when there are moments of tension, they appear because of something genuinely unexpected, or because Edgeworth made a miscalculation (which allows character growth). Even when Edgeworth has to pull dumb or crazy shit, it feels like it makes sense, because he thinks, even when he panics. Also, Phoenix is tied down by the worst accompanying duo of Maya and Pearl all the time, while Edgeworth acquires an absolutely amazing set of sidekicks (and he not only gets fun new ones, like Kay and Lang, but there’s so much detail in his interactions with Gumshoe, Franziska and Larry as well? It was great to see the Edgeworth/Larry dynamic of the friendship). Plus, I like the Logic Chess things, the soundtrack is my favourite (how exactly COULD you even attempt to top Shi-Long Lang’s theme???), at least if we’re not counting PLvsAA as a part of this universe, and I like the visuals of it much better. In short, everybody should play these fucking games right fucking now, and storm Capcom offices so they actually port GK2 for the Western market.

A lot of the same criteria apply for the newer games, too. While DD was a comeback for Phoenix, it was a game with mixed protagonists, and it was a new Phoenix as well. Apollo probably has my second favourite supporting character crew after Edgeworth, and, at the time, his Perceive mechanic was refreshing to see after being stuck to the same gimmick for 3 games. Same with Athena. She differs dractically from both Phoenix and Apollo, and brings a new mechanic and a new set of associated people. In other words? I’m happy this series is trying new things, and exploring extra protagonists where it can. It has improved a whole bunch as a result.

Danganronpa:

Favorite Male Character: Byakuya Togami, Kiyotaka Ishimaru. Nagisa Shingetsu. Gundham Tanaka, Hajime Hinata, Kuzuryuu Fuyuhiko, Nagito Komaeda. Shuuichi Saihara, Ouma Kokichi, Rantarou Amami.

Favorite Female Character: Aoi Asahina, Celes, Touko Fukawa. Sonia Nevermind, Peko Pekoyama, Akane Owari, Ibuki Mioda. Angie Yonaga, Kirumi Toujou, Maki Harukawa, Tenko Chabashira.

Favorite Het Ship: Togami/Asahina, Ishimaru/Asahina, Hinata/Ibuki, Tanaka/Pekoyama (I’m especially fond of this one, also titled Soft Animals Edge Duo). Sonia/Kuzuryuu is also great, though that is a platonic ship, as I headcanon Sonia as aro.

Favorite Slash Ship (both M/M and F/F): Naegi/Ishimaru, Naegi/Togami. KomaNaegi is quite pure, but a friend also got me into KomaSouda as a complimentary ship to TanaPeko. A crackship, but still a favourite is Izuru/Ryouta. And, of course, the ultimate fave - Saiouma. (A nice shoutout also goes to Oumota and Amamota). As for the ladies, Kirizono and Celesgiri, and all gay Asahina ships are good, SoniAkane & Pekobuki. In V3, Tenko is mega gay, so there’s a chance for every gay ship, however, my favourite one is Tenko/Maki. If we’re talking non-Tenko ships, Angie/Maki sounds fun.

Least Favorite Male Character: in DR1, surprisingly, none. Well, Hagakure can get on my nerves, but I like just alright all of them. In SDR2, Nidai, in my opinion, didn’t have that great of a development, so I guess him. Though I also have plenty of issues with Souda. In V3, Gon//ta Go//ku//ha//ra.

Least Favorite Female Character: All DR1 girls are good, and even if they aren’t, they’re at least interesting or entertaining. But if I have to pick, Junko, if we’re judging morality. In SDR2, Mi//kan Tsu//mi//ki and Hi//yo//ko Sai//onji,in terms of morality and/or being dicks. In terms of rather poor writing (despite having a good idea), Chi//a//ki Na//na//mi. In V3, H//i//m//i//k//o Y//u//m//e//n//o and K//a//e//d//e A//k//a//m//a//t//s//u. The final one is also my least favourite in the entirety of the series as a whole.

Least Favorite Het Ship: Jun//ko//ma//e//da. In general, any Junko ship is not very good for plenty of reasons. Na//e//gi//ri. In SDR2, Souda/Sonia (she’s clearly not comfortable with him), Nidai/Akane, Hi//na//na//mi.. Not sure if should be mentioned here, but romantic Kuzupeko? Mostly because I cannot picture it as a thing. I do, however, like them platonically, they do care about each other a whole bunch. In V3, Sa//i//ma//tsu (never make me look at it).

Least Favorite Slash Ship (both M/M and F/F): Chi//hi//mon//do. Even if I do like Mondo okay, it’s not healthy. Ka//mu//ko//ma. Son//dam. Jun//ko//mi//kan? Mahiru/Peko for sure. Kiib//ou//ma, too.

And the one I guarantee I’ll receive anon hate over - Te//n//hi//mi.

Dirty Little Secret: this series somehow manages to combine the good with the ridiculous in such a way that I can accept.

Unpopular Opinion(s): I am the literal embodiment of unpopular opinions in this franchise. I think V3 is the best game of the series, and it had a brilliant twist (both the start one and the final one). I don’t really ship the most popular ships, the obvious exception being Saiouma (and, to an extent, SoniAkane? It’s a popular Akane ship, at least). I think Saihara is a far better protag choice than the other option that was presented, since the story and its structure was made to fit him. I’m the unpopular opinion and rarepair central in this fucking thing. (Please help me.)

Love Live!:

Favorite Male Character: yay for not having prominent males, which means I get to skip 2 more questions here.

Favorite Female Character: In Muse’s, my top 3 is Hanayo, Eli and Maki. In Aquors, my top 3 is You, Kanan and Dia (though Mari and Chika are also very lovable).

Favorite Slash Ship (both M/M and F/F): Makipana! It’s very very cute. I also quite like HonoEli. HonoMaki is also quite nice. In Aquors, YouKanan or DiaKanan.

Least Favorite Female Character: Not unpopular by any means, but Ni//co Ya//za//wa. In terms of singing voice, Kotori. In Aquors, R//i//k//o S//a//k//u//r//a//u//c//h//i.

Least Favorite Slash Ship (both M/M and F/F): Ni//co//ma//ki??? I will never understand why people like it. In Aquors, Chi//ka//ri//ko and You//ri//ko.

Dirty Little Secret: I quite like A-RISE. Every song they’ve ever done is an absolute banger, as the youth says.

Unpopular Opinion(s): would you look at that. Another fandom where I’m the monarch of rarepairs.
