Just Trust Me
A Vox x Reader Ramble
A. N. I’m so damn tired but oh well. I’ll fix spelling tomorrow. Might add things? I dunno ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Btw made it gn somehow so yippee
Cw: Yandere Vox / hypnotize stuff / Grammar probably
Vox has taken a liking to his latest assistant.
As his assistant —hired by Velvette herself to get him to ‘Chill the fuck out, you mangy fuck’— you were tasked with making sure Vox wasn’t fighting with Val. And that he actually ate. You thought you died again when you saw him eat for the first time. Not too bad, right?
Right.
——
Only thing, you lived in the tower to ‘make things easier’. You wouldn’t turn down free housing. The only thing was how many electronics there were. And cameras. But, thankfully, there weren’t any in your room. He made sure to hide them well.
That, and the rather showy uniform he had you wear, were pretty normal. It was Hell, nobody was perfect. He was just making sure you wouldn’t snitch or lie or steal or whatever.
He also liked seeing his initial on you, but that’s besides the point.
——
You wouldn’t even realize anyone was wrong. If you had any suspicions in the beginning, he would easily sweet talk or even hypnotize you into listening. You were just a little birdy to admire.
Speaking of Birdy, that was his little nickname for you. A bit strange, but he probably did it to everyone. And because, you should just feel lucky to even work for him and stop questioning things-
——
After a while of being his little piece of decoration, he starts to feel… something. He doesn’t know what, be he knows that his newest intern clearly doesn’t know boundaries and don’t worry, sweetheart, he’s there to save you. From what? From him! He was trying to steal hit on you and you didn’t want that, did you?
That happened a lot. People trying to hit on you after you told them no. You did say no, right? Of course you did. And you always had him to save you from those annoying people. They were beneath you anyways.
——
He had you sit in on meetings to ‘take notes’. He really just wanted to show off the little bird he caught. Aren’t they just amazing? And nobody would steal you because you were his little Birdy. And if anybody tried, Val would have some fun during his little tantrums.
Speaking of Val, he was the whole reason for this. Vox had mostly ignored you up until Val got completely caught up with Angel Dust. With nobody for himself, he found you. His precious little Birdy. You would be all for him. You wouldn’t leave him for some stuck up prick, right? Right.
——
You can’t remember when it started, but the lines started to blur between being a bird on his shoulder to being his Birdy. But you loved it. It enjoyed the attention. It was all for you and it’ll all be worth it. All the waiting.
Waiting? Your head hurt, but Vox would be there to help. He was always there. He’d always be there for you. It certainly helped that he monitored your every move. All those cameras coming in use. He couldn’t let his Birdy get hurt.
What kind of boyfriend would he be if he did?
Boyfriend?
——
You never wanted to leave his side. Not when he was the only one to protect you. No, no, it was way too dangerous for you to leave. You might as well stay with him. All the time. Forever. Hell, you might as well move in with him at this point. And you do. It was your idea after all.
And he loves watching you do domestic chores. No more pretending to play nice. No more pretending to be okay with the bare minimum. There you were. All for him. And he would never let you go.
——
Just don’t wake up.
He doesn’t like that.

little rant type shit about azzi and paiges current and kinda future media presences
i think azzis reposts are like her way of letting people know shes gonan be okay without having to be actually present and ibteractive on socials. she was literallt just comibg back from her drought/break/pause (wtvr u wanna call it) and likely wont post for a while because dawg camp and the draft content was like the most we’ve had from azzi in so long. i think shes probably doing alright considering the amount of support shes surrounded by and honestly she didnt really seem like in any hurry to suddenly become active like an instant unpause after not beibg active for so long, like i dont rlly think her being “on a break” was all that deep she was probably convinced to post but didnt really seriously care to upkeep not postibg in the first place so itd be practically no change in her lifestyle to go back to not posting i dont think she was like resisting the urge to post or anything. specifically now post-situation it might not be “i dont psot often but i sometines do wheneveb i feel like it” instead she might purposely stay away and actually jsut take time away from media focus for a little and we’ll get like a crumb once and a while.
and i think paige being active rn is a mix of moving on from the incident and also the fact that the season is over and shes back on media and does like beibg on it like for example on lives and stuff. i feel like shes trying to show that shes moving past it as well as not letting it effect or stop doing what she enjoys. i also think that if paige had gone media silent after what happened it mightve brought even more attention to it with people speculating the effects it had or twitter running wild as it always does. i think her vague-ish thanking for support tweet near when it happened was good because it further fueled people who had been covering the timeline and helped speed up efforts to get tweets taken down but didnt actively add crap tons of spotlight on it. plus her normally posting and tweeting helps spread around what people are focusing on when she appears or if shes mentioned and it js moves the crowd on. we also know shes been described as/has said about herself that shes the type to put on a strong front in stressing times so even if shes beibg active on media and seemingly doing alright she could be doing it for all the reasons i just mentioned about moving the public on (like damage control/reputation padding) and still be literallt depressed behind the scenes and js doing it bc she feels she has to. either way we have no way of knowing whats actually happening and we will probably never know, i can only guess abd assume just as much as everyone else, i could be insanely far off or completely spot on, even if it doesnt match how any of us assume or imagine her acting just remember that we literally do not know any of these people!
i hope things settle and we can see them together again i dont think the situation would have effected their relationship with eachother theyre like ride or die and its not like its their fault it happened. obviously no one wouldvt wanted it to happen but i like to think that behibd the scenes theyre supporting eachother or they could be givibg eachother space but all n all i dont see this being the reason they suddenly drop eachother and i have ful lconfidence theyll come out the other end still side by side.
if anyone has any thoughts or responses feel free to add on or share or if i left smth out or got smth wrong feel free to correct me bc its literallt 6:30 am rn and im suppsoed to be awake in less than 2 hours 🤣🥲

I just was wondering about your God Brother AU
How much has Caleb interested Collector? How do Caleb feel about them??
Collector's first impression of Caleb is from stories he hears from Philip so immediately he thinks he's super cool
Then once Collector meets Caleb he still really likes him, even when he tries to get him and Philip to cool down on the games, he doesn't hate him for it. Collector also sees him as an older brother in a way due to not having family like him before.
But when Caleb breaks the mirror, they get scared because their alone again. It's quiet for months and months on end and an anger grows towards him because they feel betrayed.
Caleb liked Collector when they first met, seeing them as a curious and strange little kid but ultimately finding them endearing. He was really happy that Philip had made a proper friend so he wasn't complaining.
At least not until Collector and Philip start to get into more trouble. When things start to get really dangerous, there's a fear that builds in him of what the Collector really wanted.
I'd say that they are just two kids who had to grow up fast and took things differently. Collector wants to relive the childhood that was taken from him and Caleb feels a responsibility to take the role of a parent and make sure everyone's safe.

i think the thing that gets to me most about nankidai’s writing is the lack of confidence in some aspects for his story/characterizations to shine through, to the extent he overcompensates. prior to the ministories, it’s shown most in how reko’s doll is overly emphasized as being out of place.
but usually, he’s really good about being subtle!!! with joe being more clever than he typically lets on (and in the death game, letting his cheery attitude drop once he’s out of sight of sara), the tension between alice and reko not being exaggerated and we can see where reko’s torn, with keiji’s slow appreciation for sara over the course of the game, etc.! and actually, speaking of ch2 + regarding the satous, their role in the story is intentionally in the background by nature of their role as the ‘in-between’ asunaro and casual life (most prominent with kai; though it also shows up with gashu who is - for the most part - more 'normal’ compared to the other floormasters while still maintaining his menacing role. this is something i deeply appreciate in contrast to the other floormasters - it presents a different, and arguably more terrifying, aspect)
but with the ministories in play... i do feel like sei would be better off if he were involved solely with kai, rather than directly with gashu. i’ve stated my issues with how sei’s existent feels redundant with the dichotomy of kai and ranger already in play, though he remains a deeply important character to kai himself and should not be removed entirely. (but that is not the point of the post atm)
see, it’s already heavily implied / outright stated that ranger and kai are meant to resemble and contrast one another.
- with ranger’s referring to gashu as “dad” (contrast to kai’s “father”)
- shin’s wondering if rio was meant to be a successor (sara’s comment of “in place of a son?”)
- rio’s inferiority despite fulfilling what kai states he never could; the two on opposite sides of what gashu wanted (kai’s unwavering commitment (unfortunately, to human life) versus ranger’s utter disregard for human life (with only gashu as the exception))
- and these are just listed off the top of my head, as i’m. very tired lol :P
we already had an established unknown dynamic between rio and kai - through gashu! as his creation/son respectively.
with sei’s involvement as gashu’s other apprentice, it seems to take away from the parallels we already had with gashu’s established children - specifically in kai’s case. there are no longer any messy strings left behind with kai and gashu under this lens, as gashu has completely moved over to the other apprentice he once took on instead. which honestly feels very unrealistic for how close they once were and how gashu justifies how he treated kai after being told only ‘one’ could survive after the assassin’s trial - out of a desire for kai’s survival, not only for his ‘potential’ but out of his own... clear ‘love’ for his family. this became a necessity.
sei physically resembling ranger could’ve simply been a case of being the next-best survivor of the assassin’s trial, who still met his end by another’s blade because of how much he cared for kai (who could’ve been training with him, where they earned their friendship; both were waiting on the instructors to report back to each house, rather than gashu specifically), and gashu saw that as the reason for both kai and sei’s failures. if kai was never a factor in sei’s life, would he be the assassin asunaro sought out...? <- that sort of thing
though, honestly, i don’t think sei needed to tie in with any current timeline-relevant character at all!! (esp as it was never implied in the main game). ranger’s design can stand on its own, and sei’s effect on kai wouldn’t be lessened if he didn’t resemble rio. tying ranger into the past seems to overcomplicate what was already implied beforehand regarding gashu’s difficult feelings toward his family (wishing to keep his child by his side, even in replica) versus asunaro (the intense faith he holds in its ideals, to the point of committing suicide to retain the purity of the death game) and how he both resents and wonders where he went wrong with kai for him to be unable to kill anyone else or complete asunaro’s objectives, where all other assassins would’ve in its name. he was searching out a replacement for kai - that is all we’re given in-game, and that’s honestly all we need to know for ranger’s existence to make sense and have a deeper meaning than just being a malicious floormaster! he is underdeveloped, and that is the intention of his character; he was always meant to be in the shadow of the child he was based upon, the one who gashu truly cared for.
...in any case, it’s an issue solely with the ministories in general! i feel like nankidai did wonderfully with enhancing dynamics we were already aware of and adding in characters that could have a lot of potential on how they influence the yttd cast’s lives (ie. ryuu, sei, and more solid characterization for ursheen/stronghold!) and i absolutely adored the alice & reko events!!! the subtle references to how much reko cared about alice to set up a ‘secret hideout’ just for the two of them, still taking the time to explain music things he didn’t quite understand (and in turn, also trying to pretend she didn’t know as much about piano as she did so she had more time to hang out with him), etc etc - it’s heartbreaking seeing how coldly they regard each other in present day by contrast! with that small set up of just how their personalities/desires began to clash and leaving the rest to be assumed from there. reko & alice’s is by far my favorite of the ministories, though i do appreciate what nankidai is trying to convey with the others... i just wish he weren’t so overt with kai’s :’]

When talking about the distinction between Simon Petrikov and the Ice King, it’s important to remember that originally, the Crown wasn’t trying to turn Simon into Ice King -
It was trying to turn him into this guy.
At the time, the Ice Crown - or rather the Wishing Crown - was programmed with Gunther’s wish to become Evergreen. So everything related to making the current wearer like Evergreen is a very direct result of the Crown’s Magic. The physical changes -
And the obsession with the name ‘Gunther’ -
And maybe some of the irritability and anger issues -
That is something the Crown is very directly forcing unto its current wielder.
But everything else?
Ice King, personality-wise, was not much like Evergreen at all, or even like Gunther's view of him. And Ice Finn of the Farmworld Universe was also pretty different from the both of them.
At the time, I remember people assumed Ice Finn’s behavior is more indicative of what the Crown is actually trying to do with its wielders. That Ice King is so different because of Simon’s subconscious resistance against the Crown - while Finn’s much younger and dumber brain is a lot susceptible to the Curse’s influence to become some sort of mad world-conquering emperor of ice and snow.
But, with the context of the Crown’s actual backstory. That doesn’t seem very likely anymore. I think what’s actually happening there is that the Crown is just trying to make its wielder an Ice Wizard on par with Evergreen (who was the Actual Goddam Ice Elemental) and that means pumping the wielder’s brain so full of Magic, Madness and Sadness to a level that is bound to overwhelm anyone.
And Simon’s and Farmworld Finn’s very different behaviors after putting on the crown is indicative, more than anything, of how their psyche reacts to Madness and Sadness in general. You know, Finn has a very proactive and kinda aggressive personality - and you add Crown-induced-Madness-and-Sadness and a compulsion to use Ice Magic as much as possible and you get all of…. this
Meanwhile, for Simon, the compulsions of the Crown originally filtered exclusively via the language of protection
As his madness always manifested as romantic obsession
And using goofy humor to try and deny the pain he’s going through
Because that’s how Simon’s mind specifically reacts to being flooded with so much Madness and Sadness.
That’s why there’s so many parallels between Ice King and the sort of mistakes and screwed-up stuff Simon does right now! He’s even kidnapping people again!
Because the Madness and Sadness of Ice King might’ve been induced by the Crown, but now Simon has plenty of personal home-grown Madness and Sadness inside him - and it’s no surprise that Curse-Induced or not, his mind reacts to it in a sorta-similar way. (Although obviously not as intensely, again, there was a LOT of MMS in the Ice Crown).
Now as for Ice Thing, and the fact that he seems to be actually rather well-adjusted under effects of his version of the Wishing Crown. I mean... not by the time of the 1000+ Era, but that’s literally eons in the future and also maybe more Gibbon’s fault. Even if the Crown will eventually take some sort of toll on him, for now he seems to be doing pretty well considering his wish. I mean, there's still some sort of Loss of Identity stuff going on
But everything we've seen of Ice Thing (in the present day, at least) shows him as a friendly and cheerful individual that gets along well with others. A far cry from how maladjusted every single wielder of the Ice Crown acted.
At the very least, if there's any notable amount of Sadness in him, we really haven't seen it yet.
There might be several factors here:
First things first, I should acknowledge the possibility that it’s just that Orgalorg’s eldritch brain is better at intaking all that MMS juice. That could play a part, but I think it’s probably more important, at least thematically, to look at the distinction between ‘I wish to be Evergreen’ and ‘I wish to be Ice King’.
First in the sense that while Ice King was occasionally mean to Gunter at times - he was generally much kinder than Evergreen ever was for ‘his’ Gunther. So, like, pretty much the one Personality Flaw of Ice King that you can directly link to the Ice Crown’s attempt to mimic Evergreen is the occasional anger issues.
And how they relate to Gunther’s view of Evergreen, so grumpy and controlling and constantly saying ‘NO!’
(Both Finn and Simon’s demonstrable not-crown-induced trauma responses can make them pretty short-tempered as well. So I’m not going to say this is purely the effects of the Crown. It still probably plays some sort of factor at why the wielder of the Ice Crown is Like That).
And that is not a factor in how Gunter views Ice King. For him, Ice King was a doting and loving father figure - so if the Crown was ever trying to implement any sort of specific negative personality traits, this is absolutely no longer a factor. Because the original Ice Crown was a reflection of Evergreen’s abuse, and now Ice Thing is a reflection of Ice King’s fatherly love.
Which is, itself, probably an echo or remnant of Simon’s own strong parental instincts.
Secondly, while the Crown was trying to make the Ice King just as powerful as Evergreen…. Ice King was obviously not as powerful as Evergreen. Because he was already a second-rate copy of the Ice Elemental’s power, and because Ice King was often just too doofy to use his powers correctly and probably because some remnant of Simon’s original sensible self is subconsciously holding his powers back.
Either way, being ‘like Ice King’ as Gunter sees him requires less Magic than being ‘like Evergreen’ as Gunther saw him - and therefore less Madness and Sadness. Leading to the wearer or, um, the eater being a lot more well-adjusted from the get-go.
And I think that the implication that Ice Thing has fused with the Crown, so there's never going to be another poor sap who puts on the Crown and gets Ice King'd. But if there is one somehow... at least the process is going to be less mentally detrimental that time around?
Maybe one day Simon could look back and appreciate how much he (or Ice King, or both of them, or however you want to look at the situation) is responsible for basically neutralizing the Crown that ruined his life in the first place.
