All the Lan juniors (except Sizhui who is silently Suffering) have badly hidden crushes on Wei Wuxian, after all he's very pretty, very charismatic and funny and a genius. How could they not get crushes on him?
Everyone knows about the juniors' crushes .... except Wei Wuxian. Not because the juniors are good at hiding their crushes for him, even in his presence. But because Wei Wuxian is convinced the juniors are actually crushing on his husband (which they Also are but nonetheless), for why would anyone crush on him when Lan Zhan is right there?
So the following scenario is a common one to see in the cloud recesses:
Lan junior 1, staring at wwx: omg he's so beautiful!
Lan junior 2, sighing: if only he wasn't married
Wwx, overhearing and getting the wrong idea: sorry kids, Hanguang-jun is mine, and I'm not sharing! *continues on his way, oblivious to the blushing and sputtering kids he left behind*
Lwj, following wwx: *gives the juniors the Death Stare of Jealousy™️*
Or:
Wwx: its so nice to see so many young people suddenly gain an interest in talismans!
His full class of Lan juniors: *thinking very horny thoughts, twirling their hair and drawing hearts in the margins of their notes* yeah its sooo interesting when you teach it!
Wwx, thinking: they must have heard Lan Zhan was gonna be my assistant for this class!
Lwj, sitting in on class to guard his husband against the juniors: *breaks the pen in his hand*
Or:
Wwx on a nighthunt, being competent as shit and very sexy as he goes full Yiling Patriarch on the monster of the week: you guys are even more uncoordinated than usual!
The Lan juniors: *running into trees and each other, stumbling over rocks and their own weapons while too busy staring at wwx*
Lan juniors: *experiencing several near death experiences so that wwx will save them*
Wwx, thinking: I shouldn't have brought Lan Zhan with me, obviously he's too pretty for the poor juniors' attention span
Lwj: *grip on Bichen tightens*

Alright so I’ve been mostly quiet about the Ghosts front on here but it’s still my favourite comedy program (other than red dwarf) because I’ve been mourning and obsessing (much to my friends who haven’t seen the show’s annoyance) over the show’s last season and end.
Anyway I was reading the Ghosts companion for the 50th time since October and I realised a few things (sorry for the essay in advance)
Tumblr media
1) the Captain’s death day is either the day before, on or just after the day Julian was born (Julian was canonically born the day after VE Day in 1945, The Captain died either on or just after VE Day, the 8th May 1945)
But more importantly,
2) this fucking thing:
Tumblr media
So we all know who this is right? Of course we do, it’s Lieutenant/Major Anthony P Havers, the love of The Captain’s life (it’s probably fair to say that isn’t it). Well, look at the description- ‘Photograph of an unknown soldier found in the Commanding Officer’s belongings after Button House was decommissioned at the end of the Second World War. ’ Now there are two things that don’t seem right about the description to me:
1) Havers is referred to as an unknown soldier.
2) Found in the CO’s belongings upon the decommissioning of Button House.
Let’s tackle the first thing first, as it’s pretty easy, there’s a likely chance that it’s been enough years that the people who made the ‘home fires: records from the British front’ records that Alison is printing in the book doesn’t know who Havers was and couldn’t find any information about the person in photo. Perhaps because there weren’t any records and photos beyond that matching Havers or sometimes there just aren’t any records of the soldiers. There is another option, a sadder option is the reason why they couldn’t find information on Havers is because he may have died young. We know he didn’t die in the war but there’s a chance he died soon afterwards, perhaps in a ‘disgraceful’ way, but I guess we’ll never know.
The second thing, the Captain wasn’t there at Button House when it was decommissioned. He was in Weymouth from the end of ‘44, and the next time he was at Button House was the day he died, and he didn’t have a bag on him or anything so….how was this photo from his belongings in Button House after the war?
My theory is that the photo either fell out of The Captain’s pocket when he climbed in through the kitchen window or was found in his personal effects at Weymouth after the war when Button House was decommissioned.
Sorry for this bad unnecessary essay but what I’m trying to say is that I think there definitely was more tragedy surrounding the Captain that he maybe didn’t witness himself after he died beyond Havers grieving for him.

Unrealistic but I'm thinking about Pepito going to Etoiles because Roier keeps pushing Pepito away and treating Pepito badly. I mean, Etoiles and Pierre are the only people who showed Pepito real kindness and seemed actually excited that Pepito was there. I could so see Etoiles adopting the kid while Roier figures out his shit, I mean Etoiles already loves Pepito and sees the kid as a mini version of himself (don't get me started on what that means about Etoiles and Roier, Roier saying Pepito reminds him of himself plays in my head CONSTANTLY). I think I just miss Etoiles with an egg and I'm Pepito's #1 fan ever...

I can't get over Marito and Arajin's first confrontation.
This dude, this unhinged looney tune of a man rolls up, on what I can only presume is a stolen carousel animal, wants to start beef with the punk on a date with his little sister (girl, yes your bro is hot, but no. stop it.) so what is his response to scare our protagonist off?
Why, introduce himself with the most seductive bedroom eyes, practically moan his name as he strikes a GQ pose, and lolling his tongue around like a horny lizard of course! Hey, the punk can't mess around with his sister if he's fucking him instead! 🙃

Picture this: Steve taking Mike to the 5150 Tour in May 1986 because no one else will go with him (Eddie's still in his slow recovering process and Karen only trusts Steve to bring Mike back in one piece anyway), watching the concert and realizing exactly three things:
1. Eddie stole...everything from Van Halen, his style, his hair, his instrument, his goddamn name, even.
2. Eddie Van Halen's kind of hot.
3. Eddie Munson is kind of hot.

Fuck It. Soft Dracfield headcanon
Picture this; It's the early days of their relationship, and Dracula Is still surprisingly gentle and kind with his familiar. The power-hungry, controlling monster hasn't quite yet revealed himself, so for now Dracula Is vibing. He's starting to get a little lazy and more reliant on Renfield, so whenever he goes to bathe he gets Renfield to wash his hair for him. One night Dracula gets a little too comfortable, and ends up purring while Renfield runs his fingers through his hair. Flustered Renfield and embarrassed Dracula ensues. He ends up kicking Renfield out of the bathroom and refuses to talk to him for a few days out of shame. After a while though he finally lets Renfield start washing his hair again, though begrudgingly. A couple of weeks pass before he gets comfortable again and purrs, though he angrily crosses his arms while he does so. Renfield just grins and keeps petting him like a cat, soothing his Master until he finally gives up and lets himself relax under Renfields touch.
Thats It thats the post.

Sect leader Granny
Upon her death, Granny Wen ends up time traveling 15 or so years back in time, to before the Dancing statue goddess could attack. With knowledge of everything that will happen unless she does something to change the future, Granny Wen decides to take up her birthright: to be the sect leader of the Wen. Her younger brother was Wen Rouhan’s father and he stole the throne from her when they were younger. She didn’t fight back because she wanted to be a doctor, not deal with politics, but now she regrets it.
Wen Rouhan falls sick in a “mysterious illness” (after all, as a healer she knows All about poisons) and when he dies she is there to take the throne. His sons are too young to rule and there are no other close relatives except her own children. She becomes sect leader Wen and brings her family of healers to the capital to start rehabilitating the snake pit that is the Qishan Wen by having them learn from the Dafan Wen.
Remembering Wei Wuxian’s tales of his times as an orphaned street kid in Yiling, she also goes there and brings him home. She has her children adopt him as their son Wen Wuxian and he grows up with Wen Ning and Wen Qing as his siblings. Granny Wen encourages his genius and he becomes fantastic with talismans and cultivation and also learns some medicine. He and Wen Qing are invention buddies and he and Wen Ning train archery together - and with Wen Ning never hurt by the dancing statue he can cultivate with Wen Wuxian. Wen Xu and Wen Chao gets forcefully taught kindness and humility and become decent people.
Granny Wen encourages the creation of connections between the Wens and other clans (and very closely monitors the Jins, prepared with some “medicine” for Jin Guangshan if it turns out to be necessary). So she sends her grandchildren to the Cloud Recesses where they meet the Lans and the Jiang. Wei Wuxia and Lan Wangji fall in love, as is destined, and Granny soon has a betrothal drawn up for them. They nighthunt and help the common people and live with no regrets. They never adopt A-Yuan, for Granny Wen’s younger child, his parent, never dies, but he is Wen Wuxian's baby cousin and they gladly babysit him instead. And they adopt a dozen other children as their own.
There is no war, there is no genocide. Granny Wen dies peacefully of old age, satisfied with her accomplishments. Wen Qing becomes an amazing doctor and she will be an amazing Sect leader in the future, with two little brothers to help her lead the Wens to an ever brighter future. All is well.

The first person to tell him was their group chat, just a picture of a ring on Rooster’s girlfriend’s (fiancé’s?) hand. No caption, no context, just a ring. If Phoenix hadn’t asked about it Jake could have told himself it wasn’t really an engagement. But Phoenix asked, and it was.
Two hours later he had Bradshaw at his door, hands on his face and leaning in. ‘I missed you’s and pet names rolling off his tongue. There was a time when Jake would’ve said them right back, now it seems cruel. Bradley leaves early the next morning.
“Marriage?“ Hangman smirks, nearly missing the flash of regret. He’s got half a mind to ask what he’s regretting. “Wouldn’t take you for a family man, Bradshaw. Finally got off that perch.”
It’s no secret why they didn’t work out the first time, or the second time, or those unofficial times in between and the ungodly number of times after. Neither of them were ready for something like that, Jake was too quick on things, ready to end it all at the first sign of trouble. While Bradley, hurt as he was, never opened himself up, only ever talking about his feelings when Jake was leaving.
So, eventually, Bradley found someone. Someone who was good for him, patient with him, someone who didn’t need everything. That someone wasn’t Jake, and Jake knew that this had to be the end of the mess they’d made of themselves together.
It wasn’t. Bradley had a fiancé, a beautiful, intelligent fiancé. A good girl with a happy family that’s gonna be paying for their wedding. But Bradley’s still lying in Jake’s bed, face pressed against his neck. He still huffs a laugh when Jake reaches over to show him something. When he wakes up screaming the first thing he does is shuffle to the bathroom and dial Jake’s number.
Rooster grins right back at him, calmer now since the mission (since they got back together), “Somebody’s gotta make sure I don’t fly off into the sunset.” Rooster intertwines his fingers with hers, staring right into Jake’s eyes as he does it.
“Oh really?” Hangman’s teasing him, “You sure you’re not accepting applications?” Nobody bats an eye, not even Rooster’s fiancé. That’s just how Hangman is, nothing else.
Taking her hand out of his, Lindsey (it feels wrong, calling her by her name), sends a playful glare at the two of them. “Sorry, Hangman. The time for that has closed.”
Rooster is smiling at her, soft and warm. That doesn’t disappear when he looks at Hangman. “Sorry, Jake,” a misstep going by the panic Jake catches, “I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline that offer. Thank you for your services here.”
Hangman snorts, shaking his head.
Bradley wants his fiancé, but he needs Jake.
And Jake’s too hopeless to do anything but need him right back.

I'm going to start this post off by saying that I write fic, and I know the pain of putting something out there and not getting a response. It sucks and it hurts and it puts a dent in my self-confidence. If I have the choice between posting a work on AO3 and getting only comments or posting a work on AO3 and getting only kudos, I'll probably choose comments let's say 8 times out of 10.
But with that in mind, posts that attempt to shame or guilt readers into commenting don't actually work.
Negative reinforcement (in the form of shame, guilt, or other worse emotions) doesn't make anyone want to do the thing. It just makes them want to avoid the guilt, etc. Rather than encouraging someone to talk to you about your writing, you're making that person want to avoid you so that they don't have to feel bad. That's just human nature.
I've said before that I think a lot of writers are looking for community rather than comments, and I still think that's true. The reason I love both writing and receiving comments is because it makes me feel like I've made a connection with someone. I may never know their real name or what they look like or where they live or anything else but what fandom we have in common, but we've reached out to each other in this text-based medium and we've shared words that made each other feel something.
I know that these posts are written out of frustration or loneliness or needing support or a hundred other reasons I could list off the top of my head. But when I read "you should be grateful for the things I give you and show me proper appreciation" it just reminds me of my parents telling me to clean my room or to follow the rules while I live under their roof.
It's so much more vulnerable to admit, "I don't know if this story is any good and I really wish someone would reassure me right now."
It's much harder to say, "I feel so alone in this fandom, and I want to make friends with someone."
It's difficult to admit, "I worked so hard on this for so long and I'm so tired, but if someone out there likes it then all of that effort will be worthwhile - and if no one says anything, then I'll feel like my effort was wasted."
I'm not trying to shame the people who made those posts, and if that's how this comes across then I'm sorry. I'm just trying to explain why I think those posts will harm more than they help.
I also hope that any readers who see this post will understand that those writers are just people who are feeling a lot of different ways, and they're venting their frustrations. I've been there. I've reblogged those posts before when I was feeling frustrated like that too.
If you're able to comment, those comments are appreciated. If you're not able to comment (for whatever reason), that's okay too. ❤️

A list of things I adored about the new Little Mermaid movie:
The Hans Christian Andersen quote about mermaids having to suffer without tears in the beginning sequence
Ariel saving Max by pushing him towards the boat
The clarification on Ursula’s backstory regarding her “when I lived at the palace” comment
Ariel noticing Eric’s compassion before his beauty
Ariel being such an open-minded free thinker that she holds a different opinion from everybody she knows about humans, despite the fact that a human was responsible for her mother’s death
Ariel being more conflicted about Ursula’s deal, acknowledging that it’s wrong
The fact that Eric has a collection just like Ariel does, the fact that they’re both explorers
Eric and Ariel finding ways to connect without her speaking! Pouring over maps together, communicating with gestures and smiles.
Eric stopping the carriage to move the goats, and Ariel disappearing while he has his back turned, because she’s so intrigued by the market that she can’t help herself
Ariel constantly discarding her shoes and eventually trading in her boots for sandals
Eric showing Ariel star constellations and her telling him her name by pointing out Aries. The line “That’s a beautiful name,” replacing “That’s kind of pretty.” Eric saying her name is written in the stars.
When Ariel and Eric are saying goodbye after their day together and she hops down the stairs to put his hat on his head and give him an earnest, sweet, open smile
Grimsby kicking the wedding ring out of sight so Eric couldn’t give it to Vanessa
Ariel being the one to defeat Ursula! Ariel, as a mermaid, unable to stand, slipping and sliding down the deck, hefting herself up to spin the wheel with all her strength.
Ariel having a tea length wedding dress! I love her gaudy puffy 1989 dress but this felt more in tune for her character, light, airy, free, youthful.
The union of Ariel and Eric representing an alliance between mermaids and humans, and an appeasement to the sea gods, so that the port will be successful again
The nuance in Ariel’s relationship with the ocean. She acknowledges that leaving is a sacrifice and a loss, even while understanding that it’s the right thing to do for herself. The balance of feelings made it very emotional when her family came to the surface to tell her that they would always be there for her. A poignant depiction of growing up, really.
