Credit art when you use it. It isn't hard.

Since some of you on Tumblr, especially in the Avatar fandom, are unfamiliar with art usage etiquette, allow me, an artist, to direct you on what is considered ethical and legal usage of artwork you didn't make.

Credit. Shit. When. You. Use. It.

You do not have an excuse for not doing this, it's incredibly simple. Find the original artist (which you don't need to do if you're taking straight from the source) and credit them either immediately below the artwork or at the end of your post. No hiding credit in the tags.

"Credit to artist" IS NOT CREDIT.

Nor is any variation of it such as "not created by me" or "credit to [random pinterest account]. Credit is specific and direct. You do not see "credit to visual effects artists" in the end credits of a film. You see names. Online, you should always credit someone's social media handle.

But I can't find credit!

Then do not use it. It's literally that simple. Don't know who made it? Either make an effort to find out or leave it alone.

If an artist says not to use something in a certain way, DO NOT USE IT THAT WAY.

Always check people's bios, watermarks, etc. to see if they list their terms of use for the art. If you're unsure, message them directly. "Do not repost" means DO NOT REPOST. "Do not use" means DO NOT USE, FOR ANYTHING.

People pay money for art, you know.

The art you carelessly download and use for your fics or roleplays could very well have costed upwards of hundreds of dollars. Ask yourself how fair it is for you to take it and use it willy nilly without paying, whereas the commissioner paid their hard-earned money to have it created. It isn't fair at all.

Other people's original characters are not yours.

Not everyone is okay with their original characters' likenesses being adopted for your own. Original characters can be extremely special and personal, it can be insulting and heartbreaking for their likenesses to be stolen and assigned to completely different characters. Ask yourself how that shit would make you feel. I can tell you first-hand it doesn't feel great.

But Pinterest--

Pinterest and other repost sites are plagues to artists, just don't use them for sourcing art.

Who cares? If they posted it online then it's free to use!

The law cares, and no, that isn't true. Art created by human hands has automatic copyright given to it. It is against copyright law to use artwork made by others in a way they have not permitted. Yes, fair use exists, but fair use is not a get-out-of-jail free card to use whatever material you find online. To be protected by fair use, your use of copyrighted material has to be transformative for the purposes of commentary, demonstration, or parody. Grabbing art off the internet to use for fics or roleplay is none of those things. It does not apply.

Are artists gonna sue you for using our art? Probably not, because we're all broke ass bitches who can't afford lawyers, but this is like, common decency, yo. Also, we can file DMCA takedowns against your posts / accounts for using our art without authorization, and guess what happens if you rack up enough of those?

Just ask!

If you really want to use a piece of art, consider just... reaching out and asking the artist who made it if it's okay to use noncommercially and with credit. A lot of the time, the act of reaching out and getting permission puts you in our good favor. A lot of the time, the answer will be yes. Just ask. We won't bite your head off. Just be willing to take "no" for an answer.

This blog is strictly for posting art (drawings and writings) related to different media I am interested in currently, memes I make in association with other's posts and about my ocs/stories. I may mess up and accidentally post something else when I try to reblog it to my main account but any mistakes will be quickly fixed!

I accept asks and questions in my ask box but please keep in mind: I will only answer questions relating to my art or about me. All other asks may be deleted or given a private response depending on my comfortability on the subject.

I only take drawing requests when I announce them or if you're a friend. Though regardless, I appreciate you guys wanting to see art from me!

Please keep any and all comments, asks and whatnot SFW! I am above the age of 18 but this blog and content is meant for 14+. (Swears are allowed however.)

This is a safe space for people from all walks of life! Any controversy, polarizing topics or hate toward a particular person or group will not be tolerated as this is not the place for such discussion.

I would love to see anything that is made by you guys be it memes or art! Feel free to tag me!

With that said, art of my original characters is allowed but please be respectful of the character. I prefer my characters to not be "genderbent" or aged up without my permission or unless it's based on my own drawings/writings. If you have a question about any one of them, feel free to ask!

I will do my best to tag for triggers and spoilers but if I forget or there is a tag you wish for me to make, please don't be shy and send an ask. I will get to it as quickly as I can!

Any art I post on here can be used for pfps and banners but please don't claim them as your own, credit me via description and don't edit my drawings unless asked prior.

DO NOT REMOVE ANY OF MY WATERMARKS AND/OR REPOST MY WORK! This is just common sense for artwork but I've seen this plenty of times and I will not tolerate my works being stolen.

Hey I responded to your message. Sorry about the mistake. I didn't know that would count stolen since their post released at least tried to give credit to the original artist but I need to be more careful.

We all need to be more diligent, especially if we ourselves are content creators cause I know I sure as hell wouldn’t want someone reposting my stories like they wrote it themselves.

Saying, “I don’t know who this is but credit to the artist,” is NOT crediting the artist. Thats not even trying, it’s a tactic to bring traffic to their own blog with content they didn’t create. Reposting someone else’s work without any credit or permission is simply theft. Ugh it’s such a common thing on Instagram that it’s frustrating to hunt for the real artist there at times.

We’re seeing an influx of reposters again, most likely as people from places like Instagram migrate here where it is notorious for reposting stolen work without crediting. So it means pausing before hitting reblog if it’s not overtly clear it’s their work.

No watermark- already suspicious

No tags such as “my art,” user name, etc

No credit Source link or even name given

No info in bio about being and artist, etc.

If… and it’s still thin ice for me, if they at least provide a link to the original artist and/or the artists name AND where they found it from, THAT is trying to credit that person. Because now whoever sees the post can go and find the original artist if they like the art/story for more content- like in advertising. FYI the source can’t be somewhere like Pinterest if it’s a reposted art there too.

Anti-Art Theft Policy

I’ve noticed an influx of art thieves on the Kakashi tag recently, and while I always try to point out that these people shouldn’t be posting art without permission (seriously, asking permission is so easy and there is no excuse not to), I’ve been ignoring the real problem - the people who support them. So from this point forward in addition to blocking art thieves, I will be blocking the people who give them the clout they are seeking by liking and reblogging stolen art. TLDR; By showing support to art thieves, you are complicit in their bad acts and will be blocked from this blog.

I’m encouraging and welcoming others who are anti-art theft to do the same, especially creators who need to protect their work.

‘But how do I know if art is stolen?’ you may be asking if you find this approach too strict. First, just take a moment to critically engage with the content you are liking or reblogging- it’s very obvious most of the time. Secondly, stolen art will often have one/more of the following red flags:

Posts with multiple pictures of art in dramatically different art styles

Posts that say "Credit to the artist" or some other nonsense but do not actually credit the artist and explicitly state/prove permission to repost

Posts that do credit the artist but do not state/prove they were given permission to post

On OP's blog, there is no art tag and there is art that is obviously drawn by many different artists

OP reblogs stolen art

Posts where me or others have asked in the comments if they have permission to post this art

Posts with watermarks of another established artist or which don't match OPs name

Art/comics or watermarks that incorporate a different language from OP in addition to a blog that shows indications of the above

Art theft is damaging to artists, fans and fandom communities and so, so easy to avoid. If you do not have permission, do not post. If you think the art is stolen, do not support it. If you have questions, my Ask box is open.

Umm just want to ask of your opinion... As someone who does art, if someone use your picture for things like making a collage or something related without giving you credit- either they know the picture is yours or they don’t know it’s yours -will you, let them? Like, will it be consider an insult and make you feel unappreciated? Just had something in mind...

What if instead of putting your name, they simply say “credits to the owners”, due to not knowing exactly are the owner of the drawing?

Will you feel offended, in any way?

hello, i hope you are having a nice day as well!

tldr: if youre doing it for your own personal use (meaning you are the only one who sees it, and wont post online) then please feel free to do so. if you are posting this collage online, you can do so but please give credit, cause i drew the original image in the first place. please dont confuse this with me allowing reposts. i only allow my work to be used in collages, amvs, etc. because its someone turning my work into something new. theres creativity behind it. and dont even say “credit to the original owners” to me, it lights a raging fire in me that can compare to no other

and here is the longwinded explanation :D

for me, it all depends on whether the collage is for personal use or if its going to be reshared online. personal use means only you or some select friends/family will see it. i know some people like to do collages for fun as a personal hobby and i think thats really cool and i would definitely allow my art to be used for something like that ^^! something like this will fall under personal use. using art as phone wallpapers also falls under this category (which is why you dont have to ask for my permission to use my stuff as wallpapers ^v^) because youre the only one seeing/using it!

of course, there are some people who use art for edits/amvs/collages that they post online like you said and i think thats great. i know i have no reposting in my bio, but for people who make these edits using others art, they are using their own creativity to make something new, with a work that i drew!!! i think thats super cool so of course i allow it. with. credit. im very thankful to the people who asked me for my permission first though, because it shows they care about the original artist ;v;. online, multiple eyes are seeing it and artists should be given credit when credit is due. reposting tho? no creativity at all. the laziest thing you can do to a piece of work. download image, upload to another site, post.

and i absolutely hate whenever i see “credits to the owner” because to me its the laziest and most disrespectful thing you can do to an artist. just the phrasing...irks me. like the person recognizes that they dont own the piece, the artist is the owner, and yet they are still reposting without permission. even a repost with no caption fills me with less rage than a “credits to the owner” so yes, i will be offended. please dont do that

and in some cases there is a watermark on the piece itself!!! clearly written!!! in plain view!!!! and yet people still write “credits to the owner”. like no, the owners name is clearly written on the watermark. plus it takes not even 5 minutes to put an image into a reverse image searcher and find the original artist. i have done this multiple times because yes, reposting without credit is really that common unfortunately and troublesome for people (me) who want to follow and support the original artists :/// my art has gotten reposted COUNTLESS of times with and without credit, and at this point ive given up on keeping track of and reporting them all cause theres just so many. im convinced i am aware of only 5% of all my art thats gotten reposted.

so to me, as a person who has gotten my art reposted countless of times, saying “credit to the owner”, even though i have written in both of my account descriptions NO REPOSTING in all capital letters, and have watermarked most of my work, is very disrespectful. i remember when my work started getting reposted A LOT for the first time, and i would get super angry every time it happened, and that rage has fizzled out now but it still remains. i still hate reposting with a burning passion.

i understand theres the innocent kind of reposting where the person is like “this art is so cool! i want to share this with everyone i know!!” (i know cause i did this in the past when i was a stupid kid) and then theres the kind of reposting that tries to gain likes and followers...off of someone elses work. off of something that they have not even made or own. how do you tell the difference between these kinds of reposting? the second one will probably have 100 something tags in the description :/...how lazy could that be? to use someone elses work for your own personal gain. my work is my work alone. if you want to get big on social media, do it with your own work. period.

i know im not alone on this because there is not a single artist i have seen who allows reposts with no credit. (and some reposters have the gall to say theyve done nothing wronggg oooooooo how inconsiderate can they possibly be ooooo im gonna kick them) theres some artists who dont allow reposts at all, no matter what condition, and i completely understand because someones art is their intellectual property, im done.

in conclusion please be considerate to artists, we already got it rough as it is ;-; (sorry for the super long answer ;;;;)

Rules

First and foremost, because this is a general event meant to celebrate the novel in all its entirety, all ships—or lack thereof—are welcome in the fan works created. And below we will describe the rules of participation.

Propriety

Though there is a screen between us, please do remember that all participants and we Mods are all humans. Always remember to speak with respect and kindness.

A huge part of this event is collaborative, so all participants must be mindful and respect one another’s squicks and no gos within the artist/writer teams.

General Requirements

Do not post the entirety of your works to any social media until your assigned posting date, however teasers are permitted to an extent. If you have a question about whether or not your teaser is too revealing, please ask us, that’s why we’re here.

You must comply with mandatory deadlines and check-ins; failure to do so will result in ineligibility to participate in the bang. This will make your art invalid to claim or require a pinch hitter to write the story in your stead. Though, we understand emergencies and life issues can get in the way, just please be open and honest with your Mods.

Artist Requirements

All art pieces must be created for this specific event by your own two hands, you cannot turn in an already published piece or anything of the like.

You cannot claim your own art if you decide to also participate as an author.

I know you’ve read this a thousand times over, but this is a—let’s say it together now—collaborative event! So you are highly (HIGHLY) suggested to be in contact with your author and to communicate with them through the process. Due to this, please give each other up-to-date contact information whether through Tumblr, Discord, Twitter, or email when you begin communicating.

Artist Specifics

Digital traditional art: Your final piece must be no smaller than 800x600 pixels, and the idea of a completed art piece is up to uour discretion, what you would ordinarily post on ur own blog. You are permitted to create more pieces to accompany the story if you so wish once you and your author begin collaborating (but this is completely optional).

Comics must be at least one full page.

Playlist entries should have at least 12 tracks in the queue, with a completed front and back cover, and a accessible link.

Graphic edits should include a coherent story arc, while adhering to Tumblr sizing limitations.

For any other inquiries, please message us through the ask box or email.

Author Specifics

You cannot claim your own work if you also signed up as an artist.

The minimum word count is five thousand (5,000) words and absolutely no maximum, but do take caution that your fic must be completed and beta’d by the final submission date.

All writing pieces must be beta read before publication. You may use your own beta or request a beta through the bang.

Again, this event hinges on the fact that it is CALLABORTIVE! This means means that you are highly (HIGHLY) suggested to get in contact and stay in contact with your artists as you create your project with one another.

As authors, you are required to take into consideration your artist’s squicks, no gos, triggers and etc. You want to stay respectful and thoughtful to your partner.

Please! Please! Do NOT claim a NSFW artwork unless you are 18+, we know that this is mainly based off of trust, but if you do lie about this and we somehow figure it out, you will be removed from the event and prevented from participating in any future events.

How To Sign Up

The sign up date and check in date are all published in our schedule.

Signups for the event will be through a google forms link, but for now we want to simply get a head count of how many people are interested and or excited to participate.

All forms—amidst the four separate ones for artists, authors, pinch hitters, and betas—will ask for your name, contact email, and one reliable social media contact (tumblr, twitter, instagram, discord) which are all required. If you agree to be a pinch hitter as an author in your form, you will not have to fill out the pinch hitter form separately. Beta forms have slightly different questions asking on their strengths and preferences for what to beta.

The discord link will be sent in the confirmation email once you’ve signed up.

Once Artists Complete Their Works

One of the most important rules we hold is that when an artist completes their piece for the claiming rounds, that you do NOT include a watermark or signature for the preview page. We want folks to choose anonymously to try and make this as much of a fair playing field as possible.

We know art theft is a concern, but we promise that the preview page is simply a google doc with limited permissions, with the art works all shown in a column and it will not expand from that private viewing.

The preview will only be open to participants of the event, and we ask kindly for no one to share the link anywhere to anyone.

The only information in the preview page is simply the art piece, with a number indicating it for claims. The NSFW work will be divided with a distinct warning. But that is all, anything else the artist wishes to clarify to their author will be discussed once we pair everyone up.

You will be able to edit your artwork as much as you please once linked up with your artist, but it must be recognizable from your original submission.

Look above for the mandatory aspects of your art medium.

No artworks or artists can be accepted once the previews are opened to the authors.

Claiming

Artworks are anonymous, without any watermarks or signatures by the artist. So they will be claimed based off the artwork and that is all.

All art pieces will be given a number to make claiming run smoothly.

All claims, once submitted to us, are final. So please authors be careful in choosing artworks you can and are excited to write for.

Take your time with claims, they are not done on a first come/first serve basis. But we will do our best to match everyone up with their preferred choices.

Authors should not choose an art piece with a possible trigger/squick already in mind before they even speak to the author.

Check-ins

All check-ins are mandatory. You will receive the check-in forms through a link via email and posted on the discord server. We really hope everyone is honest and consistent with communication.

All check-in dates are already scheduled and you can see them on our schedule post, though if you have a conflict on any of those dates, please communicate that to us before hand.

When you sign up for the event, you are required to give us an email that you check regularly and can communicate easily through.

You are only “required” to communicate with your artist/author directly after claiming and directly before posting begins. But again, we highly suggest you communicate throughout.

Always stay as kind as possible to one another.

Posting is obviously the final part of this event, please as stated above, do not post your works anywhere publicly before hand, besides small teasers that shouldn’t give much of anything away.

Your posting dates will be assigned by your Mods, but if there is any sort of conflict just message us ASAP.

There are no requirements for actual posting, besides the fact that the artist/author duo discuss with one another when they’d like to publish, and tag this blog on the post for round up.

There will be an AO3 collection that you can opt into joining, whether through the link or search box. It will be revealed and not-anonymous from the start.

There is also no posting standard, but in your posts we do ask that you both link to one another’s pieces so to help the folks consuming your works understand the full picture.

Because tumblr is unreliable, we ask you to both tag the blog, RWRBREVERSEBANG, and also send us the links through the submissions form.

If you miss your posting date, please contact us and speak with us to figure out when and how you can publish your work.

All stories and art works will be included in daily roundup posts, and a final master list of works.

Feedback

Please, whether participating as an author, artist, beta, pinch hitter, or simply enjoying the works, let’s spread love to one another’s creations. Reblogging means so much more than just a like on tumblr, and kudos are sweet, but comments are a God send. I promise that literally anything you say in the comments will make the creator feel like there is a legion of birds fluttering around in their heart.

Instagram fan accounts

Hi,

Sorry to tag the fandom as this but I only got 5 followers and I’m afraid otherwise people won’t see it. This is not an attempt to start drama, not at all.

Fan accounts have been reposting my art. I am not okay with this.

I’ve been told by several such accounts that I should put it somewhere that I don’t want my art reposted. I assumed that was a given, that’s on me. I’m sorry.

I’m a bit miffed about this cause the fan accounts managed to get a total of up to 300 likes combined on a piece and my own instagram only got 1. ):

I am flattered in a sense that so many people like it! Don’t get me wrong!

I know it’s not about the likes and the clout or whatever but I work really hard on my art and I would love the credit. It takes a bit to make these drawings.

I DO have an instagram; It’s SkekProps. I can’t link it otherwise Tumblr wont’ show this post. I will upload art there occasionally. If you want to reshare my art, please use that account to reshare it.

Please do not repost my art without me giving you full permission.

Art Thieves.

Okay so recently I’ve been finding my art being used without my permission around the interweb, so I wanted to make this post to explain to you what to do if you want to use my art for something.

Reposting:

You can repost my art without permission, but only in its purest form. That means unedited, and unattached to tags I didn’t originally use or the art wasn’t originally made for. It needs to be credited.

Edits:

Only with my permission and only with credit. Do not remove my watermark at any time.

Videos/Fanfiction

Only with my permission and only with credit. I don’t want my art associated to things it wasn’t intended to be associated to and I don’t like it being used as a background addition for someone else’s work.

That being said, if you make music and want to use my art as a background for the entire video, I’m okay with it as long as there is credit. But I’d appreciate you asking me first. I try to respond right away to all messages.

Anything Being Sold

no.

Tl;dr: I’m okay with my art being displayed, not used or edited without permission

If you see my art being used, bring it to my attention and I’ll tell you if I’ve given permission or not. Thanks.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm honestly, while I realize that Kiri and Deku are on friendly terms, given canon I’d say if Kirishima needs to talk to anyone about stuff he’s gonna go to either Baku, Kami, Sero, Tokoyami or Mina, since those are the people we’ve seen him open up to, in canon! Same goes for Deku, if he gotta open up to someone it’s gonna be Iida, Todoroki or Uraraka :0 well, it’s not like it’s impossible for them to talk about it, but I can see it happen more in a possible future where they’ve grown closer than they are atm in canon! At least imho haha

I have! It’s a trope I find real funny - but I’ve also seen a whole lot of art/fics for that topic already, would people even seriously be interested in seeing more?
