me after attempting to get back into sims and realizing i had a lot more to do than play the game

#hi everyone #I’m going around hugging you all #okay now that we are gathered here today #i will simply acknowledge that i have been gone for a very long time and then also acknowledge that maybe it was for the best #i relied on sims to be my only creative activity even if i tried to write a book at the same time #and also. i prioritized sims over real life responsibilities. that’s just a deadly combination lol #but I recently noticed I just replaced sims with Netflix. with YouTube. with anything that gave me quick dopamine #literally became addicted in a sense. still am but I’ve been cut cold turkey from most everything #I get off work and go. okay I’ve done the dishes and the laundry……..I could read or write or bake…. #I try to write and sometimes i get a good hour #then I read for a few hours and then get tired of it #and I made cookies Tuesday so I’m waiting for those to be gone before baking again #I’m just so pitiful that I feel BORED and don’t know what to do #so I said….. okay what if I do sims for an hour. #I downloaded some new cc Tuesday and tried to play yesterday #y’all ……………….. I can’t find the energy anymore to set up elaborate scenes and pose my sims and plan posts #I said wow… this is boring without my intervention and fake story #I said wow…….. all this for what? for tumblr? yes I created cool things and provided joy. but is that inherintly important compared to my #own joy? my own everyday activities I should be doing? #y’all I do not leave the house unless we got out to eat or shop or travel to our parents #.. I have little desire to. I’m trying to find that desire #but my husband is busy with grad school and work and I don’t want to do anything by myself #I’ve found myself in one heck of a slump #I didn’t want to be human for awhile. just had no desires no interests no ambitions #I was slacking off SO HARD at work. I just had no drive to do well #I’m still working on it. I’m still trying to get caught up. I’m still trying to force myself to move every day. #but I am struggling y’all. and I can tell you that sims… sims isn’t helping rn but I want it to so bad. I want to get back into it #I didn’t mean to disappear on everyone. I got married and then life got busy and then I fell into this hole of nothing #I didn’t even WANT to crawl my way out. but my husband has helped a lot. Happy New Year!!

2023 was such a nice year in the fandom, in my opinion. There was s3 and that was a banger, but I feel like the stuff we were up to ourselves over here was amazing too. I got to talk more with some of my mutuals who I hadn’t been as close to before, and lovely people keep coming to this corner of the internet!! We had our first sketchbook event and are currently preparing for a general Hilda Appreciation Week, I feel like this is all amazing considering the size of this community.

Just wanted to thank everyone who’s been here for the ride as well! It’s certainly always more fun when you have people to be insane with you. I just. Get very touched thinking about the amount of support in this fandom and how we creatively fuel each other.

Anyway, just wanted to write this post as a thank you. I hope you’re having a lovely end of the year, and may 2024 be even better 💜

(I do have one small writing update to add, though! The first months of the year will probably be relatively devoid of new content from me. This for two reasons. One is that I churned out so many fics this year that I feel like even the people who like my writing are having a hard time catching up (I don’t know how this happened either-), and the other is that I’ll be using my free time to get ahead on preparing my content for the rest of the year! I won’t completely stop or anything (Hilda Appreciation Week will see to that), just wanted to leave this noted so no one things I’ve Vanished from the fic writing scene or anything. I’m just preparing my next attack. Anyways that was it happy new year!!)

Johanna hates it in the Capitol. She thought she understood being miserable at home, locked up in her too fancy house that she wanted nothing to do with, but this is so much fucking worse. And her entire body aches, and she already took a handful of pills but they seem to be counteracting each other because she doesn’t feel shit aside from dread about what she’s about to do.

She hates it.

She’s in a corner hating things when suddenly there’s a hand on her arm and someone’s dragging her down the hallway. Johanna spins to do something. Hit them, maybe, but by then the door’s slammed shut behind the two of them and they’re in a closet, in the dark.

“What - ”

Someone kisses her.

Johanna relaxes immediately, because she immediately knows who it is. It’s Annie. Beautiful Annie. Crazy Annie. Annie, who’s the only one Johanna’s been able to talk to like she’s a person. Annie the whirlwind. Annie who she doesn’t understand, at all, and Johanna’s used to understanding people. Annie who makes Johanna feel things that she doesn’t want to.

Johanna pushes her back. “What are you even doing here?”

“Same as you.”

“I thought you didn’t do that.”

Annie laughs harshly. “I do.”

Something’s clearly wrong. Johanna doesn’t have the capacity to care. She backs Annie up into the wall and kisses her again. Annie bites her lip and the kiss immediately deepens. Their tongues tangle together and Johanna can taste whatever glitter is on Annie’s lips, and knows both of their lipstick is smearing. It’s desperate. Johanna wonders what Annie has to be desperate about.

Annie pulls back and rests their foreheads together. Johanna’s not about that tender shit, so she leans in to kiss her again, but Annie shakes her head.

“I have to go,” she says. “If you hide in here for too long, you’ll just make it worse.”

Johanna’s not the one who brought them in the closet, so she doesn’t say anything. Just waits until the door slams behind Annie, counts to ten, and then goes back to the party.

also, mini update!

I have officially completed my 2 week mentorship program and today I completed on-boarding for my job! monday is my first official day working as a vet at my hospital!!! I’ll be shadowing one of the experienced doctors in surgery on monday, then on tuesday I will be completing a lecture to earn my USDA certification so I can perform travel certificates for pets, and then wednesday I will be seeing my first ever patients as a doctor! I’m super excited but definitely nervous. these 2 weeks of mentorship have helped me to get back into the rhythm of all things vet med and have eased some of my nerves and anxiety!

I also received cookies, a yeti flask bottle, and a card signed by all the staff in my hospital welcoming me to the clinic and saying how excited they are to work with me! also exciting is that I get a semi-private office! I’m sharing with the managing doctor of the practice and I get my own side of the desk with my own computer and get to decorate it however I want! and since the managing doctor is starting to work less hours at the clinic, it will be more my office than hers since I’ll be spending more time at the hospital than she will!

Hello, im wehaveagathering from my main blog, im kind of obsessed with your hockey poetry edits and I think your blog is great! I guess I kind of have a dumb question, where do you find the images you use for your edits? Did you say Getty in your tags?? I’ve gotten into making icons recently (and i have ideas for poetry edits hrrrghhh) but it’s hard to find high res images. Thanks for your time and I hope you have a nice day :)

first of all thank you so much 🥹 and second that’s absolutely not a dumb question!! i do pull a lot of images from getty and i’ll also download pictures from sports articles (i got a lot of the hugheses pictures from online access articles, for example), or sometimes from instagram/facebook/twitter if an account is public. freely admitting that i am not technologically advanced? inclined? in the slightest here, but the image editing software that you use and how you import/export photos with it makes a difference in the quality of them as well!

if you haven’t seen them yet, i would also recommend checking out @simmyfrobby @national-hockey-lesbian @hauntedppgpaints @tapedsleeves @starscelly and @captainbradmarchand’s blogs just off the top of my head!!! they might know more places to get high res images and also i love their work 💕🫶
