Are you into other Kawamori works (As in ones he directed/did series comp for not just did design work for)? If so which ones?
Sorry for the extremely late reply! I watched Macross (the original series), DYRL, and Eureka Seven, all of which I really enjoyed. I guess E7 is an example of mostly just the design work? But yeah, at least I watched his origins. I liked it enough to actually draw a fanart heh (but never finish as is often the case with me).
When I lived in Tokyo, there was an event featuring Kawamori's designs (I think he was also present there to open it), I still regret not going because it was my finals and I had a lot of stuff on my plate at the time.
Any recommendations for some of his other work? I was kinda looking at Aquarion when it aired, wondering if I should give it a try...

Cover art for the Imai 1:100 scale Armored VF-1S Valkyrie Battroid from Macross.
The artwork on these old model kits from the '80s were fantastic and unfortunately the built models never really look as great as the box art.
Macross fans will notice that an Armored VF-1S was never seen in either the TV show or the movie. This is an original design. Check out the cool "nose art" on the leg! I don't have this kit, so I cannot confirm if it comes with a decal for that.

I know I'm like 3 weeks late but important photos from Otakon.
On Friday I was wearing my Sheryl Nome cosplay. Shoji Kawamori and Hidetaka Tenjin were exploring the Macross boothe while I was waiting in line to buy stuff. Kawamori and Tenjin turned around, saw me, and asked to take my photo!
One of my friends was able to capture this moment. Afterwards I started to cry and gave the biggest "本当にありがとうございました! ❤️😭❤️😭❤️😭❤️" Thank goodness for my mask hiding the raccoon eyes I got afterwards.
Later that day with the help of my friends I was able to get their signatures. Tenjin remembered taking my photo and was surprised to see my wall scroll from the Tokyo Tower Cafe collab back in February.
My friends said I won Otakon. It was an experience I'll treasure forever.
