This is a non spoiler free review of The Uninvited published in The Daily Beast by Fletcher Peters after the SXSW viewing. She appears to be praising Pedro's performance despite him only appearing quite late in the movie.

This Sci-Fi Masterpiece is over 20 years old... but it's still as impressive as when I first watched it back then.

Film after film: The French Dispatch (dir. Wes Anderson, 2021)

This film came out during the pandemic lockdowns in Vienna, when I barely ever would go to the cinema, and this somehow collided with me giving up on liking Anderson's movies. This summer's been a pretty great revival, with his last two films making me quite happy. He never reaches the smoothness of The Royal Tenenbaums or the sad and imperfectly told pathos of Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, but his films have the pleasant quality of detail-filled diaoramas, which usually gives their performers an idiosyncratic tone. McDormand, for instance, or Brody usually operate at a different modality, which they also lend here to an interestingly melancholic effect.

LADYBIRD 2017
We're afraid that we will never escape our past. We're afraid of what the future will bring. We're afraid we won't be loved, we won't be liked. And we won't succeed.
